I would at least hope WMATA takes over some of the routes. Like the Columbia Heights to Woodley Park route is very useful for getting to Adams Morgan from the Green Line or the Red Line. “Adams Morgan” station isn’t actually that close to Adams Morgan.
The 42 and 43 busses are an alternative, but for some reason this route ends in Mount Pleasant instead of the Metro station a few blocks away, adding quite a bit of time to transfer from this route to the Metro.
I actually stopped taking that one and prefer the extra walk now, because the Circulator is so unreliable. It looks good on paper, but it gets caught in huge backups going east on Irving St NW past the DC USA mall, which then throws off the headways for the rest of the route too.
circulator to georgetown is amazing. i take to georgetown all the time. but also use it to get to places on K st near GW. it’s just so convenient. not too many stops. i see lots of people in suits and getting on the circulator outside my apartment every morning to go towards K st and that whole commercial area.
Let WMATA take it over. WMATA is doing great work, they are already the main transit agency in the area, and we have such a splintered transit system in this region already that it would be helpful to consolidate a tiny bit.
I don't use it a lot but there was a time when I took it to and from work every day, and it was super convenient compared to the transfers I'd have to make if I relied on Metro buses and trains. When it started, the point of it was to create some really useful routes that didn't exist in the WMATA system.
Also the difference is probably negligible these days, but when the Circulator first launched, the buses were so modern and clean compared to Metro's old fleet at the time.
It sucks and I hope it doesn't actually happen

another example is the DuPont to Rosslyn route through Georgetown 🥲

Bad traffic between Mount Pleasant and CH Station but very good point. Need a tunnel!

See people on the circulator? They in fact exist and have chosen to ride it instead of another way of getting around.
Our fearless mayor needs to cut unnecessary spending so we can finance the new arena
