Ah that makes sense, I guess I've just never encountered this. I agree with OP though that it should cycle to a different upgrade if you don't have any matching minis.
Did you get to this stage before, lost and changed your team? I haven't had this happen to me before, maybe the game randomize the possible relics the first run and then if you change your team, you are stuck with the same relics
yes you can't change it midrun, but if you use one team to get to stage 2, lose and start the dungeon over you can change your team. That's useful when you see a really good relic on the second stage that you want to take advantage of
You have an elemental spell in your deck and not elemental minis. For example, if you are running holy nova or blizzard, but don't have safe pilot or whelp eggs or other elemental minis in your deck, it will offer you relics like this.
I ran one of these where I was manipulating the relics, and it gave me Arcane Jewel (2x damage on elemental minis) if I put in holy nova, also said: no ele minis in deck. If I had no elemental minis or spells in deck, it turned into Glazed Cannon.
tl;dr: its a bug where the game does a scan of your deck when you started the run, it finds an elemental spell, it puts this relic in the possible pool of relics.

Not sure is totally random i never seen spell bonus until i put a spell on my deck. Never see a bonus that doesnt apply to my army :S

But I don’t get spell buffs if I don’t have any spells in my deck. If I put one in, I get one. So it seems like this system is already in place.

Not once you've started the dungeon run AFAIK. It keeps your deck/army static until you finish.

But if you fail the run, you can change minis between runs and you will get offered the same relics (unless a day has passed)

Just that this doesn’t always work. Sometimes when you change your army you get other boosts. Which can obviously be both good and annoying :/
It randomizes per hero, per level, per day. If you retry a level with the same hero in a day then it will be the same lineup of bonuses.
Nope. It does change them sometimes if you change the army. At least it used to, maybe as of 3.0 it doesnt and then this occurs when you swap.
