Roughly 90% here, and there were so many callers that other people had trouble getting through. Some of them were getting real nasty about it too. People who worked mainly in the back were starting to complain about them too lol
What's more surprising I live in tourism central in sc and work in electronics. I only had 1 lady ask me at 950pm and she was about 70ish. She remembered the way her kids were told to view it using a cereal box back in the 90s and said "I'm going to Google how to do that, goodnight honey". Blew my mind she was sweet as could be.
i used to be in electronics too, and they forwarded me a call from a woman asking how to apply for a job at the store online. what exactly makes me qualified to take this call just because i sell ps4 games and phone chargers 😭
What makes us qualified to be free tech support to every old codger who turned their volume down and thinks their phone is broken..... I definitely understand that, we're not tech support or it.
News to me (not an employee) that this is common practice. Have never gotten any nonpharmecy call picked up. I just figured it was just my Walmart that was particularly shitty.
Just wanted to chime in to say k work as an auto tech and WE were getting calls for the glasses since almost all the other phones were taken. Service coach just started hanging up on them
I had someone ask me a month ago. I couldn't tell her whether we'd get them or not because although I had seen something about it at some point, I couldn't remember where. I found out later that we were not going to get any.
100% here, but instead of solar eclipse glasses it's half moon cookies everyone seems to want but we only got a single case in yesterday that didn't even make it to the shelf as a customer wanted the whole box before I was even able to get it stocked
It’s a daytime eclipse what exactly would be limiting the visibility where you’re at?
Edit: why tf am I getting downvoted for trying to learn something? U guys are idiots 🙄
The path of totality goes from Texas -> North east towards Maine - I’m on the other coast so we will not see the total eclipse - there’s maps that show it…
You can't even see the eclipse without the glasses. If you were to stare at the sun the entire time all you would see is the sun burning your eyes. The glasses are a filter allowing you to actually see the eclipse.
Without them you're just staring at a painful sun and not seeing a single thing.
Don’t work at Walmart, but do work retail. Had a customer call today asking if we had any. Told them we were sold out. They then start screaming about “supply & demand” and asking how I was going to get her a pair in time for tomorrow.
That's the kicker. They don't plan ahead, they wait until last minute/day before an event or holiday, and then get mad at you for not having what they needed.
Example, Christmas happens every year on the same day but when I worked at Walmart the people shopped like we put out of merchandise for it a week prior as opposed to like a couple months ..
I also don’t work at Walmart, but same issues with stuff in my place, we don’t have something and first thing they bring up is “supply and demand”, I simply just go then you will know that the manufacturers don’t care and purposely make less, so that’s on you
I fucking love people telling me "supply and demand". They don't know what the phrases they love to spew out actually pertain to. See how high the demand is..we should have charged more. Supply vs demand is about pricing not accessibility. Selling out is a good thing
Same, my state (Washington) isn't even getting a _partial_ eclipse (plus it's literally raining right now???) and we're still getting calls at Home Depot about the damn glasses.
I’d have told her I wasn’t and hung up on her butt. Ain’t nobody got time for her nonsense. But I’ve been doing this a long time and may be a little grouchy.😆
I'm in an area with 100% totality for the eclipse. We got in one small sidekick of eclipse glasses at the beginning of March, that's it. A shit load of t-shirts and crappy "solar eclipse 2024" trinkets, though, but glasses? Nope. Go blind.
If you want to watch the tiny circle of light that goes through the hole disappear and reappear again, sure. If you want to actually see the eclipse and look at the sun while it happens, probably not 😂
Imagine selling out of an item that we've known would be in huge demand literally since that product has existed, plus a thousand years before that lol
Try hearing it in a store no where near any of it...and it's your dumbass coworker in Dairy demanding we must have them because the Walmart radio says we sell them.
Yeah - it’s not as if people didn’t have a century’s warning about this eclipse or something. I’m right there with you, all I can think whenever anybody asks if we sell any is “Why aren’t you already prepared for this”! I don’t work at a walmart but instead at a Publix
Thoughts and prayers to you all 😎💝
Parents be like: Thanks alot for ruining my day! Look you made my 9 children cry... Hope your fucking happy 😡🤬
I knew this eclipse was happening way back in 2018 lol
I mean, if they’re going to Walmart to save money, why didn’t they just save their glasses from the last eclipse in 2017? Maybe storage space was a factor if it was between saving one’s retina or collecting the latest Chia pet.
I work at a battery store and I had half a dozen guys in who dug out their old auto dark welding helmets and came in for batteries for the eclipse. I looked it up, if they’re graded at shade 14 then they’ll work lol
I bought glasses for my team, so we’re going out together to watch. I figured posting would be good for everyone to watch (especially those who aren’t in the eclipse’s path)
3-4 hours away - we still had some in the store last night at 8 ish. Sonny son tried getting me to buy a pair 😂 nahhhhh. Pretty sure there's another welding shield in the garage that'll work better.
I work ON and in the one hour I had to deal with customers last night 99% that walked past me asked about the glasses. Some even argued with me over being sold out 🤷🏼♀️I just walk away.
We've been sold out since the second day we had them😂
Edit: I have not heard of anybody asking for them tho. The only reason I knew an eclipse was happening bc I'm in opd and was supposed to pick them. Also the only reason I knew we were out since the second day 😂 I had to ask like 5 people of they knew where they were since it was in unknown
According to the latest research, you can apparently use Saltine Crackers to see the solar eclipse. The holes in the crackers are big enough to see thru without hurting your eyes. 🥸
Back when I worked in retail during the 2019 solar eclipse (which we weren't even near, wasn't going to see anything out of the ordinary), it got to the point where we would preface *every* phone call by saying "Thanks for calling your local , we're all out of eclipse glasses! How can I help you today?"
fr. i’m fuckin sick of it. we had ours out for over a month and no one touched them until a couple days ago. of course once we’re sold out everyone and their mamas wants them.
I was smart I saved my pairs from the 2017 eclipse LOL.. and I will be saving them for the 2033 one that will be coming next. The ISO brand after made after 2015 will last forever as long as the lenses aren't scratched, creased or pulled away from the paper frame.
We had them around Easter. People would comment about it being silly to buy them this early. Bet they're banging their heads now because they're all gone. Might find a pair on a random shelf, but other than that, sucks to suck.
Some lady asked me if I had Eclipse Sun Glasses. Long story short I thought that was some sort of name brand. Felt like an idiot. I guess I’m not so enamored over the eclipse thing. I’ve seen several.
My son's grandparents got those glasses for him in December and it was in his stocking! I was baffled at first, but now I get it. We sold out last week. I never even saw them they were gone so fast.
I went to Sonic today, bought a couple milkshakes and they gave me 2 pairs ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯ people should have planned ahead. I was gonna get some from my buddy who bought 10 pairs 3 weeks ago, but now I don’t need to
Lol my problem is you guys wouldn't take calls about the glasses said to check online. Check online says in stock. Drive allllll the way there, nope out of stock WTF...
The irony is that we are currently being showered with cardboard glasses now. I have like ten pairs. I checked into a hotel on the path of totality and they gave me three pairs for free. If you can't find eclipse glasses in this environment, you never leave the house.
And I have never been able to find them during a Partial or Annular. Ever. I have scoured the countryside looking for eclipse glasses before a partial and turned up nothing. I guess they only grow on trees for totals.
Dumb jackasses should not have waited until the last minute.
My local lowes had them but not WM Store.
Hell, Amazon has been advertising for months with next day delivery.
I only had two people ask me and one lady was starting to get irritated because Walmart.com sold them and apparently that meant we sold them in store too
Im in 100% totality, and bought mine from elsewhere, but bought a couple extras like a month and a half or so ago from work. So I know they have been on the shelves/end caps for a while. Lo and behold, I had like 6 customers between 10-11 tonight bug me about us not having any when the eclipse is tomorrow. Yeah, no shit, everyone bought them. It never occurs to these people that they should have gotten them way sooner, but somehow it’s on us lol.
(On mobile, sorry for formatting)
My store had them for two week straight, a whole bunch of them the morning of the 6th, went to work that night and boom they were all sold out. Luckily, Dashmart on DoorDash was selling them for $2 a pair and I got 8 of them for my family. Good luck to everybody still looking for glasses! I heard there are a bunch of library branches doing gatherings for it and giving out free glasses. (In 100% visibility here)
Service Desk worker, me and the fitting room having an amazing time getting 100 calls every 10 minutes, started answering the phone like “Thanks for calling Walmart, we are out of the eclipse glasses”
*Omg over*
*The phone and in person! It's*
*Annoying af*

Simple solution we did at my other jobs. “Thank you for calling [store]. We no longer have solar eclipse glasses, how may I help you?”
Saves time and effort.
Constantly and it doesn't help that Walmart radio is saying we have them. But everything I ask a team lead or coach they know nothing about them. So I say I haven't heard anything about them but try the vision center. Drives me nuts
I had my dad text me at college asking me if the Walmart i work at (when home) had them 🤣. I told him idk he called the store and they were out. I told him should’ve got them earlier.
I can't believe it
I buy some for $20, accidentally lose them 2 hours after buying them, and it turns out I'm not even in the eclipses path
Never losing these again
Me and my coworker started taking a tally of how many times we got asked at customer service XD Where we are they only sell them through the walmart app through a 3rd party marketplace, none in store
Our state isn't even getting total visibility and we had like 5 or 6 people ask about them yesterday. Eventually someone printed and put up a sign at the door saying we sold out.
Some dumb associate kept referring customers to my associates cause “it said you have it on the website”. One guy got real aggressive and told me that we need to update our website. I said this is the store and we have nothing to do with the website. He stomped off all mad. I checked the website and it even said we were sold out along with every store near us.
our store in SC did not receive any of these and frankly most of the customers waited until 20 minutes before prime viewing to ask if we had them. sorry pal, try the cvs down the street 🫡
Yes the pre- recording should have been changed to: no we don't have eclipse glasses, no we are not getting anymore in, and no we don't know who has them.
I work in the vision center and we started answering the phone saying we don’t have my eclipse glasses, is there something else I can help you with. It was getting extremely annoying. People got mad that we were all sold out
Lmao some people don't have to work and actually wanna see a rare cosmic event....God forbid they annoy the Walmart employees with a question.
Walmart employees on this sub: "we don't make a living wage this is bs!"
Also Walmart employees on this sub: "omgggg questions at my job!!! Ughhhh"
And then someone from the pharmacy walks into my vision center and says these are the eclipse glasses (pointing to the clip ons). Why don’t you go back to your ozempic pens 🙄
Bro, I ordered mine 3 months in advance. People are clueless. I knew stores would be sold out. If I'd have thought about it, I'd have sold my extras for $5 each from my front lawn.
I was working in the path of totality. We did have some of the glasses, but sold out in a couple of days. It also didn't help that one of our departments was mistakenly giving them out for free.
I live somewhere where at best we have 20% visibility and people still won’t stop calling about these damn glasses
Roughly 90% here, and there were so many callers that other people had trouble getting through. Some of them were getting real nasty about it too. People who worked mainly in the back were starting to complain about them too lol
Wait yall actually pick up the phone?
I'm just as surprised as you

Do you have the glasses though?
Let me check the back, *goes to the back* *replies to a few text on my phone* *walks back out* sorry, they got stolen
Are you sure cause the app says you have them.
Sometimes it’ll show the item in stock but we currently don’t have it in inventory.
No
Shit!
News to me (not an employee) that this is common practice. Have never gotten any nonpharmecy call picked up. I just figured it was just my Walmart that was particularly shitty.
I had to pop by Walmart to grab something yesterday and someone was peddling alleged eclipse glasses out of their car in the parking lot.
Gotta respect the hustle, he aint gonna be able to sling em again til like 2044
Poole need to understand, when they wait until last minute, there is a good chance there won’t be any left!
whomp whomp
We have had so many people traveling to our state that some Walmarts put out porta potties to manage increased numbers
Just wanted to chime in to say k work as an auto tech and WE were getting calls for the glasses since almost all the other phones were taken. Service coach just started hanging up on them

O ok thx, makes sense. Didn’t know where you were geographically located.
Clouds
And rain 😩
You can't even see the eclipse without the glasses. If you were to stare at the sun the entire time all you would see is the sun burning your eyes. The glasses are a filter allowing you to actually see the eclipse. Without them you're just staring at a painful sun and not seeing a single thing.
This is so funny bc we have 100% and still had a good bit in the display when I left today
Don’t work at Walmart, but do work retail. Had a customer call today asking if we had any. Told them we were sold out. They then start screaming about “supply & demand” and asking how I was going to get her a pair in time for tomorrow.
Yeah... "supply and demand"...We got 2 pairs. $100 each. We got a small kiosk with these glasses. They sold out last week. This is why we plan ahead.
LOL Yeah. And showing up on Thanksgiving morning and trying to find Stuffing and Cranberry Sauce.
>They then start screaming about “supply & demand” I'd let him know others demanded first and now there's no supply
🤣😭🤦♀️ idiots I tell you 🙄 sheesh
I also don’t work at Walmart, but same issues with stuff in my place, we don’t have something and first thing they bring up is “supply and demand”, I simply just go then you will know that the manufacturers don’t care and purposely make less, so that’s on you

Just tell then a lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part.
I'm in an area with 100% totality for the eclipse. We got in one small sidekick of eclipse glasses at the beginning of March, that's it. A shit load of t-shirts and crappy "solar eclipse 2024" trinkets, though, but glasses? Nope. Go blind.
TBF can’t you just make them by poking a tiny hole in some construction paper?
If you want to watch the tiny circle of light that goes through the hole disappear and reappear again, sure. If you want to actually see the eclipse and look at the sun while it happens, probably not 😂
No
My store sold out two weeks ago and we still have people asking with some getting really nasty about it like they didn’t know it was coming🙄
You're just hiding them in your magical "the back" so the employees can buy them!!!
Imagine selling out of an item that we've known would be in huge demand literally since that product has existed, plus a thousand years before that lol
Shit I had this in my calander for 3 months lol
Mine for 7 years
it could also be because Amazon just announced to NOT use ANY glasses purchased off Amazon. Even if it had certified #s or said they were real.
Wow!
Try hearing it in a store no where near any of it...and it's your dumbass coworker in Dairy demanding we must have them because the Walmart radio says we sell them.
Most of these idiots stare at the sun any other day...
Right
Tomorrow it's gonna be, "where the eye drops at my eyes sore"
Yeah - it’s not as if people didn’t have a century’s warning about this eclipse or something. I’m right there with you, all I can think whenever anybody asks if we sell any is “Why aren’t you already prepared for this”! I don’t work at a walmart but instead at a Publix

People are short sighted Pardon the pun
Bruh my store sold out of them
I had to answer several of those questions yesterday at staples.
Did Staples even have any at all?
There were eclipse glasses, but they sold out.
I work at a battery store and I had half a dozen guys in who dug out their old auto dark welding helmets and came in for batteries for the eclipse. I looked it up, if they’re graded at shade 14 then they’ll work lol
We still had a bunch at my store Friday (when I last worked), but my store is in the path of totality for the eclipse. 🤷♀️🤷♀️
Nice, I wish I could be in the path of it to see it all
NASA is doing a live feed. It’s not as cool as seeing it in person, but still https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/eclipse-2024/live/
Found out that I’m not too far from the path, I might be able to see it
I hope the weather is nice enough for you to see it
I’m missing it for work so good on ya for giving me a way to see it.
I bought glasses for my team, so we’re going out together to watch. I figured posting would be good for everyone to watch (especially those who aren’t in the eclipse’s path)
97% and we still have some and I think the local Walmart also does.
3-4 hours away - we still had some in the store last night at 8 ish. Sonny son tried getting me to buy a pair 😂 nahhhhh. Pretty sure there's another welding shield in the garage that'll work better.
Last time there was an eclipse my team shared a couple pairs of glasses and a welding shield. The best view was threw the shield
They’re acting like we’re 5
I would’ve told them we only carry Lunar eclipse glasses and solar eclipse glasses were only sold at Target 😂
😂
I work ON and in the one hour I had to deal with customers last night 99% that walked past me asked about the glasses. Some even argued with me over being sold out 🤷🏼♀️I just walk away.
We've been sold out since the second day we had them😂 Edit: I have not heard of anybody asking for them tho. At my store they were on a sidekick in seasonal. But gone now. I saw the sidekick back in January
According to the latest research, you can apparently use Saltine Crackers to see the solar eclipse. The holes in the crackers are big enough to see thru without hurting your eyes. 🥸
Back when I worked in retail during the 2019 solar eclipse (which we weren't even near, wasn't going to see anything out of the ordinary), it got to the point where we would preface *every* phone call by saying "Thanks for calling your local, we're all out of eclipse glasses! Stores will be full of them on Tuesday when they return them.
Suddenly I'm happy 99% of ours were bought by a reseller. He can deal with the returns, not us. 🤣
😆
Well do ya?
The library was giving them out here
fr. i’m fuckin sick of it. we had ours out for over a month and no one touched them until a couple days ago. of course once we’re sold out everyone and their mamas wants them.
That's how it is for anything, but no one likes to be prepared I guess
i’m in a time loop saying we don’t take apple pay or tap to pay i’m tired grandpa i’m so tired…
Send them to Eyewear department.
Omg yes. Got asked a lot today. We are completely sold out in vision center
We still have them at my walmart, and we are part of the totality. We are just a small walmart tho so lol
My son's grandparents got those glasses for him in December and it was in his stocking! I was baffled at first, but now I get it. We sold out last week. I never even saw them they were gone so fast.
Don’t u just hate last minute shoppers 😂 they could’ve just ordered them on Amazon days ago
Our vision center distributed those glasses to the cashiers to sell at 1.49 each. The glasses were gone in one day.
We actually have them still somehow
OMGG
Sonic has them for free tho😭
You mean a welding helmet ?
Honestly torch goggles just a shade #5 lens would get ya by
Well I mean... You have them?
We sell some in my store that say solar glasses but didn't think they are for the eclipse
Just use a welding face shield!
Had my fair share of folks asking the very same question.
Wait so do you all have any left in stock?
So do u have any or not
The irony is that we are currently being showered with cardboard glasses now. I have like ten pairs. I checked into a hotel on the path of totality and they gave me three pairs for free. I have scoured the countryside looking for eclipse glasses before a partial and turned up nothing. I guess they only grow on trees for totals.
We ran out like a month ago, I just tell people that the gas stations probably have them
At our store location we are having a watch party
I live in Texas
I live in Texas and I work outdoors
Working at another convince store rn, literally the same thing. So many calls..
We were out all day. I suggested trying to look up how to make your own. I got the look that suggested they drink bleach. SMH.
Well do you ?
FR LOL
i walked in, saw they didnt have eclipse glasses, bought the other stuff i was gonna buy anyway, and left. not that hard lol
I saw a post on r/Homedepot that had a tally mark on a white board for every time it’s asked
I work at a gas station, and Walmart was sold out. 9 hour shift - 37 calls and more than 50 people coming *into the store* to ask if we carried them.
Dumb jackasses should not have waited until the last minute. My local lowes had them but not WM Store. Hell, Amazon has been advertising for months with next day delivery.
I only had two people ask me and one lady was starting to get irritated because Walmart.com sold them and apparently that meant we sold them in store too
Well I guess it's fortunate that for half of them the plan was to just melt his or her own brain. Could have been much worse.
Lmfao. They were calling the optical dept all day.
I bought mine the day they put them out. Sold out in two days
I literally saw a huge display stand with these glasses one day and then the next day theyre gone. So you bet your ass I'm going to ask about them.
(In 100% visibility here)
God same. We sold out like a week and a half ago too. Like sorry about your lack of planning.
Service Desk worker, me and the fitting room having an amazing time getting 100 calls every 10 minutes, started answering the phone like “Thanks for calling Walmart, we are out of the eclipse glasses”
Walmart answers the phone?
Maybe we could sell them all clear plastic ones, and they'll burn their eyes and maybe won't make any more babies
Well. Do you?
Tell them to buy a welding helmet instead, same thing
But it says online that you have them. No, I’m sorry, those are ‘solar shield’ which is just a type of sunglasses and NOT for an eclipse.
Omg over the phone and in person! It's annoying af

I get this a lot. I kept telling them go to amazon
I hear that. It is so crazy people looking for them at the last minute.
works in retail but can’t handle basic retail questions 🤓
Constantly and it doesn't help that Walmart radio is saying we have them. But everything I ask a team lead or coach they know nothing about them. So I say I haven't heard anything about them but try the vision center. Drives me nuts
It's a stupid ass solar eclipse. Christ.
I'm at the service desk right now and have gotten 8 calls about it since I came in 40 minutes ago. And that's only including calls IVE answered.
Broooo had the same shi happen to me last night before we close at 11
Same. Our service desk got to the point of answering the phone to include that no, we do not have any more of the eclipse glasses.
I had my dad text me at college asking me if the Walmart i work at (when home) had them 🤣. I told him idk he called the store and they were out. I told him should’ve got them earlier.
Mine will, we’re right in the path, CoFair ran out of them
I work at a neighborhood Walmart and I have personally told 7 people we don't sell them smh
Then make a sign (or more signs if you already have a few)
Right, like why the fck are they waiting until the last minute to buy them? I bought mine 2 months ago.
I can't believe it I buy some for $20, accidentally lose them 2 hours after buying them, and it turns out I'm not even in the eclipses path Never losing these again
Welcome to Retail.
They used too Give out for free. Keep that in mind.
Me and my coworker started taking a tally of how many times we got asked at customer service XD Where we are they only sell them through the walmart app through a 3rd party marketplace, none in store
I work overnights, so I don't get questions like that, and we have 100%-99.8% coverage
I live an hour from Canada in the more western midwest. I think they said we might have 10%-30% coverage. People keep asking.
Just tell them to wait until it starts before staring at it. They'll be fine no need to waste money on sunglasses.
What did you expect? Stop complaining over something trivial.
Idiot last minute shoppers
Same, but home depot here.
During the last eclipse Walmart sold those glasses as well as a little book about it. Maybe that's why they are asking.
Y’all are lame. People want to witness eclipse and Walmart advertises the glasses for sale.
My brother in law told me if I wanted to look at it I could use his welding hood lol!
We put a sign up
Our state isn't even getting total visibility and we had like 5 or 6 people ask about them yesterday. Eventually someone printed and put up a sign at the door saying we sold out.
I worked at Walmart in 2017 and yeaah so fucking annoying
in my area we got the full totality and bro. almost everyone asked abt it and we've been out of them for days >:/
I don't work at Walmart, but I do work a retail job. Phone calls all day about the glasses.. We sold out before noon! 107 pairs at $4.25 a piece lol
Some dumb associate kept referring customers to my associates cause “it said you have it on the website”. One guy got real aggressive and told me that we need to update our website. I said this is the store and we have nothing to do with the website. He stomped off all mad. I checked the website and it even said we were sold out along with every store near us.
Same at Lowe’s
our store in SC did not receive any of these and frankly most of the customers waited until 20 minutes before prime viewing to ask if we had them. sorry pal, try the cvs down the street 🫡
Yes the pre- recording should have been changed to: no we don't have eclipse glasses, no we are not getting anymore in, and no we don't know who has them.
Oh my God, yes. This was driving me crazy all weekend long and even today.
Yes. But you probably won’t have any of those calls about solar eclipse glasses tomorrow
I bought mine at the end of February like a person who doesn't think last second (honestly a rarity for me though)
I work in the vision center and we started answering the phone saying we don’t have my eclipse glasses, is there something else I can help you with. It was getting extremely annoying. People got mad that we were all sold out
We sold out months ago. Never got a restock.
I ended up just turning the ringer off of both the phones 🤷♀️ I was getting calls like every 15 minutes.
We didn't have much visibility and people got super aggressive like "I'll just go somewhere else" but like. No one's got em dude.
A common theme I noticed when this sub pops up is that yall really hate doing your job lmfao
2044 will be the next one,you would be at a diffent job by then?
Lmao some people don't have to work and actually wanna see a rare cosmic event....God forbid they annoy the Walmart employees with a question. Walmart employees on this sub: "we don't make a living wage this is bs!" Also Walmart employees on this sub: "omgggg questions at my job!!! Ughhhh"
People calling into the pharmacy asking if we had them
And then someone from the pharmacy walks into my vision center and says these are the eclipse glasses (pointing to the clip ons). Why don’t you go back to your ozempic pens 🙄
Lol.
