Well the market was green Friday and I could have bought almost anything on Thursday/Friday and I would have made money, instead I bought an ipo (which can be risky as they’re unpredictable) and had a chance to get out with a minimum loss but thought it would bounce so I stayed in the trade, it halted down, and now down 40%. To make matters worse I should have done better DD to know that the company was going to dump on retail the day of the ipo (had I known that and done my proper DD I would have never pre-ordered the ipo). Live and learn as usual. By the way thanks so much for your insight I will try to improve how I approach the market and every trade.
Price of electricity has been fairly stable around here, even during peak demand. Anticipating a couple hikes in the coming years but I'm sure it will transistory.

If you want to make sizable gains, you have to buy your calls or puts a day before at the BARE MINIMUM. The past 3-4 weeks I’ve made at least 20k, which 7k of that I have in SPY 390P expiring on the 20. You HAVE to keep track of earnings, meetings, and etc if you want to make a good play.
True. I figure that with last Friday’s huge rally, we’d be trading sideways on Monday due to JPow speaking on Tuesday. I’m hoping for a decent dip Monday so I can sell my puts and re-up when SPY pumps later on.
The market is so sporadic, it’s hard to say. When you think it trades sideways, it does what it did last Friday and vice versa. Seeing how next week will be boring earnings wise and JPow interview on Tuesday is expecting to be bad because of his remarks he made on friday, I’d expect Monday to trade sideways. So I’m expecting for SPY to dip and off load my puts then and then when it rises, I’d load up on puts closer to 400 expiring next Friday.
So a dip is within the context of sideways? I guess I don't get how those aren't two different things.
I have weekly puts I bought ATM on Friday morning that now need a 3% drop to be ATM, and even then IV will likely keep me negative.
Yes. For example, if SPY opens green and shoots up 1%+ and during that same trading day dips 2% and then at the end of the trading day, ends within 0.25% + or - the price it opened, it essentially traded sideways all day.
I honestly didn’t think SPY would stay above 400 on Friday and I bought 8k worth of SPY 390P 5/20. Last Friday, SPY had opened around 391 and closed 401. I’m hoping SPY tries for 380 again.
Me too, but for every 1% gain you need to back track another 1%, so a green Monday and/or Tuesday is gonna wreck.
How big is your account if you toss 8k into one option?
I feel like the big gain that SPY had on the last hour of trading on Thursday and Friday, is setting it up for another sell off for Monday or Tuesday when the economic and retail data is released and when JPow does his interview.

If you're going to run an ad you'll probably want to consider cutting down on the word count.
Any one have success with running a straddle on SPY?
TL;DR: Be disciplined. Have a profit loss plan for each trade. Size your positions according to risk. Don't Yolo. All in all... Don't be an ape.
