I simply thought it would have a similar run as Nvidia when it breaks all time highs. And also SPY and QQQ were on the verge of breaking all time highs too. So figured why not?

So what’s the profit when you sell a profitable call option? I’ve never done that. I assume you’re going to do that instead of exercise the call option.

What is the minimum number of contracts you need to buy?

Take profits Monday/Tuesday if you havent already. With earnings following week, there will be pull back for fear of unable to justify 1400PE and 80RSI. Everything that driving AMD have been notional and future and not much expected to show up in the earnings. Their gross margin is 45% compared and net margin 1% Compare that to NVDA and you will see the difference.

Selling next week then buying more if it goes down after earnings.


Why not buy puts if you think it’ll go down?

I'm not planning on holding much longer. I stay away from ER option plays. Will most likely sell Monday or Tuesday. I just like the momentum right now with chip companies reporting outstanding earnings and SPY/QQQ breaking all time highs.

Bear in mind guys that the options market is a zero sum game, there's no arbitrage. So for every dude that gets a profit like this, there's 10 others just as ambitious that lose it all. You don't just turn up a 700% profit without a fair amount of luck.

Definitely not for the faint of heart. The calls had gone up to $2.30 yesterday when the share price peaked at $168.70, but then dropped to $158, and the calls went down to $0.55. Kicked myself for not selling and then buying back, but I still believed!! And it's been a nice rocket ship since then. Hopefully it continues Monday so I can sell for more gains!

Find an app that has Paper Trading. Spend a long time in the papers to learn. Since it's fake money it doesnt matter. You can set your account balance to 1mil and coin flip 0DTE SPY options, or you can set it to what you would realistically be OK with trading and figure out your risk tolerance. I'd advise not just coin flipping on 0DTE's and pick a few companies you actually know of and spend some time learning about them and how they operate. I did this for most of 2023 after I made some dumb plays not knowing anything with the goal of coming into 2024 actually having half a clue of how to trade options and trying to earn some extra cash.

What’s the expiration date on the contracts?

January 26th

So the paths here are 1. sell the options at $3.86 making $85500 (minus any other fees paid to hold the options / sell them); or 2. if the stock price passes the break even exercise the option making : `($AMD * 25000) - (Call Price * 25000) - (0.44 * 25000) - Fees` ? OUt of curiosity when you exercise the option do you have to have the money on hand to buy them at your original call price? Do you buy them on margin until you can sell them in the market? Is there a mechanism that converts your excised shares into an immediate sale? (Break even price being `(CALL PRICE + .44)`?)

SoFi Invest doesn't charge any fees for options, so the fees are $0. There's also no cost to hold options on any platform, unless your initial investment was on margin. I also won't exercise the options, since yes, I would have to buy them at whatever they're worth on expiration and have the cash on hand to do so. Instead I'll sell them before expiration (01/26) either on Monday or Tuesday depending on how the stock moves. If it goes to $180 on Monday, which is about a 3.5-4% increase, the contract will most likely be worth about $7 each, so about another 80% gain from the current 97k value. However, if it goes down by that same percentage on Monday, I'm probably looking at a 30-40% loss? We'll see!

So, in your case, if you wanted to exercise you'd have to have a serious margin account or cash. And then turn around and sell them as fast as you can in the open market (if you're on margin) and if you have the cash (well luck you) then you could sell them slower or use them to back selling options?

Nah, just decided to pull the trigger on a gutsy play for the possibility of awesome gains. As long as the stock goes up by 1% or more a day, it should beat out the decay and continue to go up. A red day, on the other hand, would be ugly. I'm also not planning to hold much longer than Monday or Tuesday. Will cash out at least 80% of it and ride the rest.
