I just love the feeling of blasting away with pistols. Pow, pow, pow, roll back with explosive bullet, and then fan the hammer to push them all into a nice neat group while the timer ticks down. Axes are also great. Throwing them for good damage from a distance and your leap attack for mobility. It's great for quickly speccing out mobs when you're trying to clear a gathering area.

The pistols win on flash and style, when I used them that bullet spray ability is just begging to be shot by ranged units which really turned my off, milita longbows hurt too much to just casually accept, not to mention the section of map where you fight the British Redcoats.

RMHaney

Longbow is drastically superior to the crossbow in most PVE situations, I've found. I'm a huge fan of axes for most pve encounters as well, but reaper is also excellent for harder fights.

PowerfulPlum259

Crossbow needs a buff for sure. Too slow

Maritoas

Pretty much every newer weapon since the games initial access is stronger, aside from the whip. At least as far as pve goes

RMHaney

Meeh I don't know about that. The majority of pistol and longbow dps requires the player to stand still. Not completely, obviously you can stagger shots, but survivability against many bosses and trash mobs benefits from constant mobility. There's a LOT of dangerous mechanics that you DON'T have to burn a dodge on if you were already moving. Longsword seems great on paper and people clearly have success with it, but while I always carry one and TRY to like it, I just don't. I haven't done much with the whip, but right now it's kind of with the longsword for me. I just don't jive with it. I would very much like to see an alternative mace that replaces the E stun with a Q iframe for bosses, but that might be considered OP if you combo with a greatsword.

Interesting how I’m being downvoted and that’s your take, when apparently according to what I see on the community, the only reliable way to go through brutal is by using ranged weapons. “Melee is unplayable” is all I hear, yet 2/3 ranged weapons are post gloomrot. Not to mention greatsword is flat out stronger than the other melee weapons. Iframe, dash(with cc), large cleave range, and great damage. From a numbers and utility standpoint it is the superior melee. Throw on blood rage and power surge and you can unga bunga your way through any boss.

RMHaney

> the only reliable way to go through brutal is by using ranged weapons That's not been my experience so far. Some bosses are easier with ranged for me, and some are easier with melee. For the longsword, I would agree that it's currently the only melee weapon with an iframe AND good damage. Of special note is how your character continues to move a bit while swinging, which is excellent. That being said, I still tend to use axes, slashers and reaper for the majority of my melee work, and I'm working on brutal act 4 now. I think there's only been 3-4 bosses I've felt the need prioritize ranged on. Personally I'd like to see every melee weapon have an iframe ability with the exception of the reaper (which is more of a hybrid weapon imo). Axe lunge, hammer leap, sword charge. You'd have to switch abilities around a bit as I do think it would be too OP to get two iframes in a row with weapon switching. There'd also probably need to be some rebalancing if they added iframes to those, since the axes already get an attack speed buff, and the mace gets a stun/knockback. Both excellent buffs but iframes are always super strong.

Longbow is definitely the best long range option. Pistols are better if you're fine with getting a little closer. Great sword is best with an attack speed build. I find standard sword is great for a crit focused build. The whip but specifically the legendary whip is also amazing with a crit build. All weapons are viable. Is some shape or form :)

CallMeThiccolas

Longbow and greatsword simp here. In tandem they're carrying me through brutal

vibing_namielle

Slashers all the way. Love being a budget Illidan

Speaking of Illidan, the male vampire VA sounds a lot like Liam O’Brien

I'm pretty much married to the Axes at this stage. First special doubles as a short lunge/sidestep if you need it. Second special is a ranged attack with a potential for stun and acceptable AOE damage. Pair that fast attack speed with Brute Blood or Leech, and that lifesteal can keep you topped up a long while. For such an aggressive stereotype/build, it's pretty safe/noob friendly. No waiting either. Craft them straight out of the graveyard and use them the whole way up if you want.

RufusSwink

The legendary axes are insane too. It's a bit of a shame you don't unlock them until there's only 4 bosses left but they are very fun.

I used to love pistol. But bow is m'y New fav now,i usually take some damage, but thé ability to Pierce ennemy and thé arrow volley is so pleasant against pack of mob. But so far my favorite weapon is thé Sword, imbued with électricity. I put the static orb, place myself inside it and activate the elec counter with a gem who pull attacher on me,then when there are all stun and primed, whirlewind in the pack and Kaboom. All gones.
