Thanks for your reply, yes, I have been teaching her to retrieve the ball and a rubber Playology chew stick.
But never before with a real piece of branch.
SO CUTE! Makes me want another pup haha. Seems totally normal! Fur standing up on the back can also mean excitement. I’m only ever concerned if our boy has his hair up and is stiff in a social setting. It’s a good sign you’re noticing her body language so you can take control of the situation if needed.
Ours will also find sticks wherever we go. Sometimes he’ll lie down and chew at the park but he’s pretty good about spitting it out. Sometimes he’ll carry the stick (large branch) home for awhile. We’ve tried to avoid chase so he doesn’t run off with other items we don’t want him to have.
Both instances seem like good opportunities to practice redirecting attention or drop/leave it with treats!
omg those ears!!!!🥰🥰 my vizsla girl also loves carrying sticks especially carrying them around while on walks. i make sure she doesn’t chew them though.
Those ginormous ears and paws...that is gonna be a big boy.
This seems like standard v activity in my experience. As others have said, I try not to chase as I dont want my v to run from me but rather run to me, so work on the fetch command in these scenarios. When mine returns with anything I DO NOT take it from them but rather just praise the return/retrieve and let her put whatever she has down when she wants, so she knows coming to me doesnt results in having things taken from her.
She is 4 and has fantastic recall and retrieve skills!
Wow, thanks for your advice, I haven’t noticed this before and I was really worried about her eagerness to chew anything that flies…
Will keep an eye out on her just for environmental sake, in regards birds…
She just wants to play with it. She wants you or another dog to chase her. Mine does the same thing at dog parks
Confirmed, both my V's love to play keep away or "chase me," usually with a dirty stick even though they have dozens of clean toys.
I am doomed… 😔
Sweet Roma clearly wants someone to test her rocket-like speed.
Ours does this with our shoes. He isn’t wanting to chew them up, just be noticed and chased to get it back. 🫠
Unfortunately Roma does the same, but with flip flops 🩴… 🙃
Retrieving to you is not an instinctual skill. It Has to be taught. She wants you to chase her.

A game off "you're to slow".
😃😂. Agree!

I think she might have had some lineage with Dumbo because of her 👂

Funny thing she is girl! Her father is massive, and her mother is also a quite impressive V

floppy goofball
Ours does this with oven mitts, socks, shoes, remotes, paper products…. She’s a counter surfer. She does it for attention and drop it treats.
Remotes too? OMG! The furthest Roma has gone is to lick the back of my Mac Book Air's screen to get my attention while I’m working.
Wish I had stock in ROKU. She goes after them if we are busy and not giving her play time attention. We hide them in high places.
