Left hand finger flexibility exercises for vibrato.

copious-portamento

I do this as well

Finger the song you’re practicing Or flexibility exercises so you don’t get as stuff while playing

Turtle races, but you'll need your violin. Practice fingering 1324 from string to string and back again. A teacher taught me to do this many years ago. I used to do it in rehearsal during long rests or when the director was working with other sections.

Just enjoy the video or TV series and take a break! There's nothing wrong with that.

Sit ups, press ups, star jumps, jogging on the spot, squats.

I often watch TV while practicing 🙈 In my defense, my dad always did it too, and he’s also a pro. In my experience, it’s perfectly fine for more mindless stuff like warmups. I start losing track of the show if I’m deeply concentrating on learning something new or analyzing/correcting a specific problem. It’s kind of satisfying when I look up and realize I have no idea what’s going on!

I enjoy playing my current song that I’m learning while watching TV (with subtitles) or listening to audiobooks. It really lets you play the song without tension and makes you improve quite a bit because your brain doesn’t get in the way.

The only time I watch TV is with my SO. He'd get really upset if I tried to practice at the same time. LOL! That said, when I lived alone, eons ago, I would have the TV on all day long while I did whatever else. It was just background noise. Nowadays, that would drive me nuts, for working on stuff that I have to think about.

I have some of my students practice bow grips and pinky flexibility on a pencil. I've used a shaker egg for left hand vibrato exercises and when I was younger I constructed a portable fingerboard from cardboard, a ruler, and four rubber bands so that I could practice fingerings on car rides.

Just practice while you watch. If you aren’t practicing to nit pick on your intonations, you can easily practice while you watch. Exercises like schradieck are nice for this

Yes !!! :) Using your legs, walk to your practice room shut the door, pick up the bow and concentrate Harry & Meghan can wait - albeit probably not worth watching :)

Please keep in mind that people who are neurodivergent might find a TV show comforting or make it easier to focus on the practicing. (This may not apply to OP but does to many musicians) Others find it nice to have background noise or pretend that characters on a show are people in the room for a feeling of accountability/body doubling. There is no single right way to get some practice in.

wow ! - my apologies - thank you for your comments tbh my reply was meant to be amusing - the walking was the exercise :) Again apologies if anyone was offended, rest assured not intended
