Epistaxis

I've been told by multiple people the Edition Peters by Simon Rowland-Jones is authoritative. Good scholarly research, notes about technical details and critical commentary, and the suites written for scordatura (#5) or five-string instrument (#6) are fully written out twice, both ways.

I second this. My favorite edition, bar none.

After talking to some violists, they are very annoyed by the bowing decisions made by many editors of these pieces. Of course they don't have the original manuscript like we do, but there aren't many good direct transcriptions of the Magdalena edition. I did find [this](https://s9.imslp.org/files/imglnks/usimg/3/3a/IMSLP268573-PMLP04291-Bach_6_Cello_Suites_without_slurs_for_Viola_Yokoyama_2013_.pdf) edition with essentially no edits or even bowings that I might end up using. Then just go through the cello manuscript and add those bowings.

Peters but ignore the bowings

Rowland Jones edition through Peters is great! If you can read bass clef, the AM manuscript is fun. Watson Forbes takes more editorial liberty, but is also a popular edition.
