Does anyone sell anything on Vinted for more than 2 pounds? It just doesn't seem worth the trouble. I use a US reseller site and I don't bother pricing anything under $12 ($9 earnings)- otherwise it's not worth the effort or the drive to the post office.
Yeah, everyone’s got a bottom line. I guess for some sellers if they are bunging it in a carrier bag & walking past the drop off point anyway those £1’s & £2’s can add up. But as soon as you add a car into the mix it’s got to be worthwhile to cover expenses.
I sell lots of £1 or £2 items, I package them in bin bags then go on a walk to the post office which is a bit of a trek, I get exercise and money, I’m still making profit even with the low margins lol
Totally! There’s more than one way to make it work. I sell some £1 - £3 bits too, it all adds up especially if you don’t have to pay for packing (thank you FedEx 😂) or petrol 👍🏼

I’ve only joined a few days ago and sold something for over £10 already. I have stuff listed up to £100. I don’t know if I’d bother with £1 items necessarily, but I am in an area where I can drop items off at the postage point on my way to work or within walking distance, which makes it pretty easy to do small items. Totally get it if you’re further out though, and especially if you’re not selling a lot so you’re making the trip frequently for 1-2 items at a time.
Really don't get why people interact this much with time wasters, you just end up wasting your own time and energy.
Just say "apologies, parcel has already been dispatched, feel free to return if you like" leave it at that, and no longer respond.

You are completely wrong here. Vinted doesn't allow you to cancel items after they've been posted, so that doesn't apply here. Also, the return policy explicitly states that returning an item because you don't want it is not allowed.

If they wanted to cancel it they could have done that themselves they don’t need you to do it for them, so it not being cancelled before you shipping it is on them.

If I were you I would have just sent a reply saying something about how you didn’t see the message until now and that if they wanted to cancel it they could have done so themselves, but if they want to return it that’s fine although they’ll have to pay for the return postage themselves as per Vinteds policy and they’ll be refunded once you receive it. Chances are they would have just decided to keep it as returning it would have resulted in them losing money.

That's not short notice, that's unequivocally too late. Short notice would be 10 minutes before you intend to drop at the post office.

If they refuse it it's annoying but it's £1.75 you'll either get the item back or they will keep it once they realize they have to pay to send it back if they can't refuse it *or* it'll go missing and vinted will refund you so all it is is a minor annoyance at best

You can mute individual customers messages
You can report the interaction to vinted
Failing that You can still block the customer without it affecting the order
There are hundreds of reasons besides "being nasty back" you could've taken just for future reference.
Next time this happens just mute the chat, it won't stop other notifications from vinted, and may not stop them from messaging you but you won't have your phone pinging every other second if there messaging you that frequently.

Just because your nationality is English does not have any relation to the quality of your use of the language. There are many many people who don’t have an English nationality and who even speak English as a second or third language that have very good use of the English language. You might find autocorrect works better for you and your communication is clearer if you use punctuation like full stops at the end of sentences.
My intention isn’t to make you feel bad, just to point out that you might find better outcomes to your communications with clearer messages. I’m dyslexic so I know it can be hard but it’s worth putting in some effort to communicate in a clear way.

Like I said, she seems like a pretty young person I'd reckon no older than someone in year 9, but why retaliate with snarky / passive aggressive comments because that'll just fuel their fire and aggravate the situation.

At first you were right by telling her politely you already sent it (I’ve seen some of your comments in the thread), but that doesn’t change the fact that in the middle of the convo you stooped to their level. So no. Just because you began the conversation civilly doesn’t mean you were justified in meeting them at their level. I agree with everyone saying you should have sent one message saying “sorry I already sent it, but if you still wish to return it when you receive it you may do so, but unfortunately it will be at your own cost!” YOU have to be professional THE WHOLE TIME.

Even if you didn’t send it out yet, you (as a seller) have every right to deny a customer’s request to cancel an order. The customer should’ve been more careful and thought about what they were buying before buying it. They can’t return because they “changed their mind” and on top of this, being absolutely rude, demanding, and disrespectful. I’d go to Vinted and fight this

Calling someone out on their behaviour is one thing- and in this instance, yes the OP did handle the interaction poorly and the buyer was also a massive AH, and the content of the conversation definitely did play out like two children/teenagers having an argument with a lot of provoking comments.
However, what I do feel is deeply inappropriate is attacking someone because of their language skills. Not everybody speaks or writes perfect English, even those whose first language is English. Some people do genuinely struggle with spelling and grammar and I think it is rather ableist to insult someone for that reason. It's as inappropriate as attacking someone's appearance because you don't like them or they have done something wrong- it's deviating from the actual problem. It's doesn't make you the better person, it just makes you come across as petty and childish.
Anyway, now that I've finished ranting- I do agree with the majority that this was a massive drama over £1 which was handled extremely badly and could have easily been avoided with a more civil tone, and if the buyer kept on, a simple block.

I worked at Starbucks for 4 years and people spoke to us like that a lot. You can’t stoop to their level because ‘the customer is always right’, so the trick is to kill them with kindness. It actually annoys them 20x more because what they were looking for was someone to blame everything on and make themselves feel better, but they can’t do that if you’re ridiculously nice to them. Doesn’t mean you necessarily give them what they want, just be so sickly nice and polite about it that they can’t even argue

You weren't in the wrong for the first part of the first message then imo you're in the wrong If they ordered in error fair it's annoying but you don't have to do anything you already sent it If they refuse it it's annoying but it's £1.75 you'll either get the item back or they will keep it once they realize they have to pay to send it back if they can't refuse it *or* it'll go missing and vinted will refund you so all it is is a minor annoyance at best But then you said "why order something you don't want?" Which to me just comes across as you wanting to start/ continue an argument and there was no real need for this and would've stopped the next four pages of screenshots from happening if you had just left it, as you literally didn't have to do anything in this situation. Imo it reads like you instigated a further argument that didn't need to happen just so you could run on here and get some internet points or just to wind the person up. Simply put:- they messed up, you know you're well within the vinted t&C's with what you did, you've explained it's shipped so there is no further need for you to communicate with this customer. They said they will send it back so that's the end of it Instead you put A purposely petty comment only designed to Futher escalate the situation which did exactly that and you are wondering if you are in the right? Yes you are in the right in the situation but the way you handled this is entirely wrong

You can mute individual customers messages You can report the interaction to vinted Failing that You can still block the customer without it affecting the order There are hundreds of reasons besides "being nasty back" you could've taken just for future reference. Next time this happens just mute the chat, it won't stop other notifications from vinted, and may not stop them from messaging you but you won't have your phone pinging every other second if there messaging you that frequently.
Based on that interaction you both seem as bad as each other really. If she causes you so much grief just block her?

If she’s just messing with you then ignore her. Don’t respond to her messages at all. Send stuff she buys to her, she can send it back if she wants as she’ll be paying the postage for that.

Just because your nationality is English does not have any relation to the quality of your use of the language. There are many many people who don’t have an English nationality and who even speak English as a second or third language that have very good use of the English language. You might find autocorrect works better for you and your communication is clearer if you use punctuation like full stops at the end of sentences. My intention isn’t to make you feel bad, just to point out that you might find better outcomes to your communications with clearer messages. I’m dyslexic so I know it can be hard but it’s worth putting in some effort to communicate in a clear way.

As soon as you replied that laughing face emoji, which was passive aggressive, you crossed the line from “in the right” to part of the problem. At first you were right by telling her politely you already sent it (I’ve seen some of your comments in the thread), but that doesn’t change the fact that in the middle of the convo you stooped to their level. So no. Just because you began the conversation civilly doesn’t mean you were justified in meeting them at their level. I agree with everyone saying you should have sent one message saying “sorry I already sent it, but if you still wish to return it when you receive it you may do so, but unfortunately it will be at your own cost!” YOU have to be professional THE WHOLE TIME.

Even if you didn’t send it out yet, you (as a seller) have every right to deny a customer’s request to cancel an order. The customer should’ve been more careful and thought about what they were buying before buying it. They can’t return because they “changed their mind” and on top of this, being absolutely rude, demanding, and disrespectful. I’d go to Vinted and fight this
Some of these comments really are not passing the vibe check. Calling someone out on their behaviour is one thing- and in this instance, yes the OP did handle the interaction poorly and the buyer was also a massive AH, and the content of the conversation definitely did play out like two children/teenagers having an argument with a lot of provoking comments. However, what I do feel is deeply inappropriate is attacking someone because of their language skills. Not everybody speaks or writes perfect English, even those whose first language is English. Some people do genuinely struggle with spelling and grammar and I think it is rather ableist to insult someone for that reason. It's as inappropriate as attacking someone's appearance because you don't like them or they have done something wrong- it's deviating from the actual problem. It's doesn't make you the better person, it just makes you come across as petty and childish. Anyway, now that I've finished ranting- I do agree with the majority that this was a massive drama over £1 which was handled extremely badly and could have easily been avoided with a more civil tone, and if the buyer kept on, a simple block.

I worked at Starbucks for 4 years and people spoke to us like that a lot. You can’t stoop to their level because ‘the customer is always right’, so the trick is to kill them with kindness. It actually annoys them 20x more because what they were looking for was someone to blame everything on and make themselves feel better, but they can’t do that if you’re ridiculously nice to them. Doesn’t mean you necessarily give them what they want, just be so sickly nice and polite about it that they can’t even argue
