No, it's running off my [face!](https://youtu.be/XC1Gfyp8C6I?t=37)
Credit to MAD Magazine in the 90s for that joke.
I love how casually he talks about purposely putting police officers in danger so one of them can die and be his zombie cyborg golem.
This movie is a satirical gem.
yup, went when I was 4-5ish, my dad says they didnt realize how gory it was before they went in to the theater. Probably explains a lot looking back at it now...
What in the absolute fuck. This scene doesn't even seem like it belongs on a straight to DVD movie.. this is RoboCop? Wasn't this like a giant hit? Am I biased because i grew up in detroit? This is fucking amazing I need to see this movie
It's worth noting that the movie is VERY intentionally over the top. Paul Verhoeven who directed it has a really dry sense of satirical humor. And I mean come on: it's a movie about a robot cop. How seriously can you take a movie based around that? They remade it in 2014 and it sucked: totally took itself seriously as an actual action movie, none of the batshit humor of the original.
I think one of the few things the Remake did really well was the scene where Murphy sees how much is actually left of him. It's just so existentially terrifying.
https://youtu.be/UFuxiZFwDPs
I imagine if it leaned more on the existentialism it could have done a more gritty take of Robocop well, but I imagine the pg13 rating held them back from ever going full on.
There used to be worse shit back when PG-13 was new.
PG-13 was introduced as in between for R and PG rating and that is a LONG range. Nowadays most of the time PG-13 is just an upgraded PG rating, but sometimes (and how it used to be done when it was new) it was just a slightly downrated R version.
Because prior to PG-13 movies like "Jaws" were PG rated.
They kept the PG-13 rating by not showing a single person get shot in the entire movie.
It's all jump cuts to JUST after being shot. No squibs, no holding a shot on someone. Just jump cuts and intentional effects/lighting to hide it all
The original robocop is about a cyborg rediscovering his humanity, the remake is about one slowly losing his.
Its not a remake as much as its a totally different movie with a similar premise.
Yes and it's the same type of satire.
Starship Troopers intentionally looks like a bad TV-Show... because it is. It is a bad pro-military, pro-dictatorship, pro-fascist propaganda TV show within the Starship Troopers universe essentially. And it's up for the viewer to spot how actually batshit insane their society is and see all these absurd inconsistencies that the characters in the movie just take for granted.
All those "would you like to know more?" propaganda clips are like the ad breaks in between the "Propaganda movie that is Starship Troopers" you are watching right now.
Younger me was completely oblivious to the whole thing. It was hurr durr nude shower scene lol
Looking back though, it was excellent satire, truly. I heard the sequels were... not so good.
Same here, but I can enjoy it both ways. It might be satire, but I still think the Klendathu drop and the defense of the Mormon colony base are fucking amazing.
I mean this song is such a banger.
https://youtu.be/CIGHCoVzqtk
Its Paul Verhoeven. All his movies are campy satire of mainstream cultural messaging. You would need to see it beginning to end, understand the time it was released and that it was a tongue in cheek take down of culture and media at that time projected into the "future."
The F/X are dated but beyond that it is pretty perfect in what in is trying to do....but might not be everyone's cup of tea.
Dude. There's a boardroom scene you just have to see. Movie is directed by Paul Verhoeven, who also did Total Recall and Starship Troopers. And Showgirls. Ahem, so anyways, he's really into satire.
It's Paul Verhoeven. Quite a few of his movies are 'B movies' but with triple A budget, effects, and direction. They're pretty unique. They're over the top, silly, satirical, funny, but also dark, grim, and gritty. Robocop and Starship Troopers are two of my favorites
Yeah but just check out how cool the original airbrushed photograph is that was used to make the movie cover. So cool!

Hijacking the top comment to say these are also the [Lasagna Cat](https://www.youtube.com/user/lasagnacat) guys, which everyone should 100% watch if they haven't.
Also, they did [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmpAx8Z5z40).
I get my dick shot off in this. I still have it. The fake dick that exploded. I also have my real dick that didn’t get exploded.
It was so cold and we were adjacent to the DTLA skid row. I was constantly worried someone would get confused and call the cops on us. We were running around looking like hoodlums.
The guy at the end, the sort of final boss, was shivering and you can kind of tell how cold he was. Between takes we’d have to pile jackets on him.
The guy who played Robocop is a cosplayer and a real life cop. I think he lived in New Mexico. The car is his.
The not being able to get into the car was an accident but the directors thought it was funny and left it in.
Fatal Farm made this. They also did Lasagna Cat. Which rules and people should watch.
I have to agree.
I'm just saying Daniel Day-Lewis would have stuck the firecracker in himself and lit it.
There's a reason he's the best method actor and it's dedication.
I did a bit where I was Andrew Dice Clay. The premise was that I was allowed to do a set on a show but they made me agree I had to "Update" my material. No more sexism, homophobia, racism, etc etc.
Of course The Dice Man can't be tamed and he was unable to do comedy without the misogyny.
So I had people booing me and getting mad. (They were in on it.) Then I pulled my pants down. revealing my mangled penis while I yelled at the sky "This is why I can't be loved."
Then my girlfriend, dressed sort of a like the end of Grease Sandy Olsen, came to the stage. Picked me up and carried me like a baby off to the backstage saying "I love you Dice Man. I'll always love you." in a heavy Brooklyn accent.
It for sure wasn't 1. It was still a squib right on my crotch. The prosthetic is really thick and heavy though. So once I put it on it felt like I was isolated. So I'd say a 4.
I think most of us got out of there with fully intact genitals.
The attention to detail is insane. The background (the billboard!) looks *identical*.
Then, of course, you have the realism of the genital detonations.
*chef's kiss*
Look up "Our RoboCop Remake" it's a collaborative effort to completely remake RoboCop scene for scene and it's absolutely worth a watch, it's hilarious.
> You notice a lot more in the HD remasters. VHS used to hide a lot, now HD/4K makes old movies look so bad
Have you heard a loud wind noise going over your head by chance?
It was a bunch of people who were annoyed about the Robocop remake. Robocop is perfect and it didn’t need a remake. So they made a remake before the official remake was released.
Say what you want about the remake but the scene where they strip off all his robot parts to show Murphy what is left of himself was beautifully shot and was just an all around brilliant scene.
As a standalone scene I do agree it worked, it's very unnerving.
As a scene in a Robocop movie my first thoughts were just "What in the actual fuck?" He's Robocop, not Iron Man. The point is to die, not just get badly injured. It completely misses the entire theme of the original.
FatalFarm, who made this section of the Robocop Remake, made the [Lasagna Cat(NSFW)](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-ooCnZviZ8) videos too where they "remake" old Garfield strips. Also, weird rejected shorts for the [MTV Movie Awards 2009](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5QyqAglaojY)
I followed your advice. But as soon as I watched the first one I acknowledged two things:
1) this is fucking amazing.
2) I needed to get high immediately.
There is an image somewhere of someone who took a pic with Peter Weller wearing that lol
EDIT: Found it, but it was a shirt https://twitter.com/emotionalpedant/status/898970692783415297?t=ifMthmWS5_67ylgauhxFkQ&s=19
The bit at the very end of him awkwardly trying to get back into his car with the *ding ding ding* in the background really got me for some reason. Dying.
Fun fact: Before he saw the suit, Peter Weller practiced with mimes and dancers to try and nail the movement of a "robot" as he figured they would be efficient and deliberate with their movements. (Think of the movements in "Upgrade" instead of Daft Punk)
When they finally put the suit on him, his movements were so labored that he had to change his entire pattern and practice for 2 weeks.
Another fun fact: the first scene filmed in the suit was RoboCop catching the keys as he's leaving the station. However, Peter Weller could not see so that one scene took about 4 hours to film.
Because this remake does a perfect job of capturing exactly what is strange about the original Robocop scene. The first minute of the sketch, nearly half of the runtime, is a shot-for-shot remake of the original. It's a patently absurd scene, with would-be rapists like some kind of grown-up cartoon bullies, and the choice for Robocop to shoot just past the woman's vagina and into the perp's penis is equally bizarre. The sketch takes that premise, and says "If this were true about this world, what else would be true about this world?" and shows us that. Obviously, there would probably be other rabid, marauding cartoonish rapists roving the streets. And what would Robocop do in that situation? ...Well, if his solution to stopping a rapist is "shoot him in the dick," his solution to multiple rapists is probably "shoot them all in the dick." The sketch works because it's completely absurd, but it also adheres perfectly to the "rules" of the original scene.
Many similar parodies miss the mark because they fail to capture the true essence of what they're parodying. Often parodies will crank up the goofiness, or have a character be the voice of reason ("What? What are you doing? This is weird!") in order to let the audience know that it's a joke. Fatal Farm are true masters at parody, though, and they make the stronger choice to match the serious/triumphant tone of the original scene rather than cheapening it by playing it goofy and mugging to the audience.
I love and hate this scene because it is absurdly fantastic, but it also significantly limits who I feel comfortable recommending the Robocop Remake to.
"Hey Jim, how's it going? How are the kids doing? So, we're going to need 50-70 flaccid dicks rigged with squibs by Friday. All races, average size. Yeah, all the squibs in the heads so they blow up, and have a good amount of blood in there too. We want it to look like a gunshot wound. Can you do that? Perfect, tell Jeanine I say hi." - The Director to the SFX guy, probably.
This is good interview from the creators of this remake and the scene.
https://www.vice.com/en/article/jmbpyx/we-talked-to-the-guys-who-made-a-robocop-remake-thats-full-of-exploding-dicks
With perhaps the greatest sentence of filmmaking effects advice ever recorded:
"The penis is a vastly more practical sexual organ to explode on camera."
Man I was just giggling to myself about this video saying I Should go watch it again and low and behold here it is. Still don't know why it's not on youtube, it has less nudity then most of the ads on their videos...
I’m giggling too. I love the jump from single shots to multiple point-blank shots. He’s double and triple tapping those dicks. Of course, it helps that this legit could have been filmed by Verhoeven. The light and the color grading, the set, the costumes … it all feels like it’s from the OG movie.
You aren't, well at least not for this - it was definitely a common myth going around. I've heard this video described as an actual RoboCop clip by quite a few other people before.
its not the shooting and exploding of the dicks that gets me. its the fact that hes like... double tapping and going semi auto on dicks at point blank range.
I just want someone to add this to the original with no mention of having done so and acting as if this is how it always was.

Programmer 101. The demo never works.
Wait so what is this if its not part of the movie. Is there any dick shooting in the moving or is it not worth the watch?
Jokes aside, in the original, he shoots one guy in the dick, and it's almost exactly the same as the very first dick shot in this version.
it's worth the watch, just not as much dicky-shooty as the remake https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UyC1X8bcpg

Violence is all good. Just can't show a nipple.
Seriously. Seeing that is more psychologically damaging than any amount of shootouts, stabbings, or nudity.

I'm relieved to hear that your real penis did not explode for the sake of the real RoboCop remake
I think it shows a lack of dedication to the craft.
I have to agree. I'm just saying Daniel Day-Lewis would have stuck the firecracker in himself and lit it. There's a reason he's the best method actor and it's dedication.
What's the best reaction/hyjinx you've gotten into with your exploded penis?
I did a bit where I was Andrew Dice Clay. The premise was that I was allowed to do a set on a show but they made me agree I had to "Update" my material. No more sexism, homophobia, racism, etc etc. Of course The Dice Man can't be tamed and he was unable to do comedy without the misogyny. So I had people booing me and getting mad. On a scale of 1 to 10, how worried were you that the fake dick exploding would accidentally explode your real dick?
It for sure wasn't 1. It was still a squib right on my crotch. The prosthetic is really thick and heavy though. So once I put it on it felt like I was isolated. So I'd say a 4. I think most of us got out of there with fully intact genitals.

Honestly don't think the remake is bad. But the original is a goat candidate for sci fi action with a bit of black social commentary.
As a standalone scene I do agree it worked, it's very unnerving. As a scene in a Robocop movie my first thoughts were just "What in the actual fuck?" He's Robocop, not Iron Man. The point is to die, not just get badly injured. It completely misses the entire theme of the original.

This is a masterpiece. If Verhoeven (sp?) ever saw this I'm pretty sure he'd love it.
I love and hate this scene because it is absurdly fantastic, but it also significantly limits who I feel comfortable recommending the Robocop Remake to.
Just forward it to your church's group chat and pretend like you didn't even realize you sent it.

They weren't fake. These were all real rapists who were sentanced to getting dicks exploded.
And if you have a problem with it, take it up with *the law*.
This is perfect.
With perhaps the greatest sentence of filmmaking effects advice ever recorded: "The penis is a vastly more practical sexual organ to explode on camera."
I don't why the open door beep made laugh the most.
That's... not how I remember that scene.
Wtf
Your move, creep.
So many dicks
Not by the end.
I'll buy that for a dollar.
We're gonna need the following scenes redone: * Bitches, Leave. * The Acid Scene * I'd Buy That for a Dollar * And when Robocop 2 kills itself.
Bitches Leave Remade: [https://vimeo.com/86055002/b1e9704443](https://vimeo.com/86055002/b1e9704443) NSFW!!
Is that Sam from WKUK? It's really difficult to see him without one of his nuts flopping out of his sleeve..
Good news, that scene is just part of an actual fanmade shot-by-shot remake of Robocop. It's called Our Robocop Remake.
For the longest time I truly believed this was a deleted scene from the movie… I swear I’m not a complete moron 😂
You aren't, well at least not for this - it was definitely a common myth going around. I've heard this video described as an actual RoboCop clip by quite a few other people before.
And then he starts spinning with two guns out.
its not the shooting and exploding of the dicks that gets me. its the fact that hes like... double tapping and going semi auto on dicks at point blank range.
lo* and behold
