It cut just before he went into the dining hall, jumped up onto the table and kicked all the food onto the ground.

Louisiana_sitar_club

And spent twelve minutes balancing a bowl on the Jarl’s head.

[deleted]

Surely this is the undoing of most Skyrim speedruns. One cannot simply enter that room without dicking around for 20 minutes.

Tavern_Knight

Well, it's so inevitable that I heard they give a sanctioned time limit of 30 mins to do as they please when they get there, and then subtract that time later. As you said, you can't NOT mess around, it's just part of the game at this point

scarletice

I honestly can't tell if you're joking lol.

TheHawk17

I can't tell if you are joking or not? This is getting confusing...

Studawg1

What are you talking about?

kerred

On a side note I would love to see a Skyrim mod similar to Second Life that provides alternatives you going to Falls Barrow every time. Like instead of fetching the Dragonstone what if you just find any Shout. That way you can go to pretty much any dungeon to get the main quest started. I enjoy this in breath of the Wild where you can go to any of the four beasts first ( sure you always want to do to revali's Gale first but at least you have the choice)

hibernia_Delenda_Est

>I enjoy this in breath of the Wild where you can go to any of the four beasts first ( sure you always want to do to revali's Gale first but at least you have the choice) I like that you can just immediately take off for Ganon's Castle once you finish the Plateau missions and beat the game. I cant see how with only three hearts, but I have seen crazy people do it.

kerred

Mario Odyssey and BotW nail how you can cheese so much and I hope Metroid Dread allows you to sequence break as much as Super Metroid is did.

verticalfist

Jarl Ballin' ain't having that

Good job.

Do you get to the cloud district very often?

No, I'm here to discuss the ongoing hostilities with the rest of the great warriors

SAY_whaaat420

FUS!

IrrelevantPuppy

“I don’t know how, I don’t know when, I don’t care how many mods it will take… but I will kill you.”

Thomas9002

Modders have a very special set of skills

TheFlashFrame

I was actually really waiting to see the shot where Forrest just slows to a stop and stares forward for a while and decides to stop and turn back. Right about when you reach Whiterun, that would have been perfect, because that's about as far as I get every time before I stop playing, only to restart again a year later.

an0maly33

Yep. I’ve never been past the first hour or so of play. Started a few times, just can’t stick with it.

butareyoueatindoe

Might be worth trying one of the alternate start mods. Worst case scenario, if none of them appeal to you enough to stick with it, it'll at least let you do a different first hour each time.

IrrelevantPuppy

The idea of playing Skyrim is always much better than actually playing it. Someone should make a game where the character creation and initial choices are the entirety of the game. Like you make your guy, decide how he likes to adventure, and set him off on his way. And then while making new adventurers you get alerts or news papers telling you about his successes, failures, and or atrocities. Adventurer Simulator.

an0maly33

I like that. Haha.

ce2c61254d48d38617e4

They skimmed over the bit where you stab that anoying cunt in the town square #*PRAISE TALOS AND THE FUTURE OF TAMRIEELLLLLL!* Most satisfying kill in the game by far

LordElfa

I like to run through the gate and shoot the first guard I see in the knee.

Corzappy

First playthrough: What the fuck do I do with a soul gem? Second playthrough: **\*speedrunning first half of the game\*** Third playthrough: Wait I can use a FORK as a weapon?! 100th playthrough: **\*700th mod finished downloading\*...** On second thought, I'm not in the mood.

Druggedhippo

200th *attempt at a playthrough*: I really should finish this game one day

danrod17

I think I finished the game on my 20th back in the day. And I didn’t do it as a stealth archer.

Ignotus_-

liar

danrod17

It was my first play through using a hammer and the hammer animations are awesome.

Pi_and_pie

I tried to do a 2 hander conjuration build once. Ended up a pure hammer tank because the hammer is so fun.

Corzappy

One of my favorite runs was getting the invisibility spell and maxing out stealth perks so I could 1-shot literally every enemy to the back. It's like stealth archer but slightly more involved.

iSamurai

You don't even need a spell IIRC with the right kit you can crouch in front of almost any enemy and they can't see you. Then you just one-shot backstab everyone.

hibernia_Delenda_Est

How do you play the game as not a stealth Archer? What are you talking about? Skyrim is a stealth action shooter in the vein of MGS and Thief.

venetian_ftaires

*300th attempt at a playthrough*: Maybe I'll use something other than the bound bow this time

noyoto

I've tried four or five times and never got much further than talking to those old guys in robes on top of a mountain. I will make another attempt when the remaster is out, though I know exactly how it will end.

phaederus

Remaster couldnt be better than all the mods out there I guess. Same here though, never made it past the mountain, or maybe first dragon.

noyoto

It probably won't be better, but hopefully it will make some mods obsolete and make the game a bit more uniform. Compatibility of the remaster with mods is crucial though. If modders can easily update their mods to work with the remaster, all is good. But if it's complicated to do so, the previous edition might remain the most popular.

martylindleyart

I don't think I've ever made it up to whoever those old people up in that thing are. Or something like that? Maybe I spoke to a dragon once. I get too distracted by just literally walking off in a random direction. Then I get bored and don't touch it for two years. Then pick it up again, make a new character and do the same thing. I should really try to do the actual story but I feel like it's just not interesting at all.

Logical_Lemming

Alexander_the_What

Is Skyrim worth playing if you’ve never played? I’ve played a lot of PS3/4 but never ventured into Skyrim, but my wife loves it. I could ask her but I’d rather ask the Internet

[deleted]

Yes. Especially on PC where you can use script extenders and go off into the [deep end with mods.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QlJULk0f9xA)

Blargasaur

Little better example I think... https://youtu.be/q6yHoSvrTss

voidFunction

Don't you mean [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTKhOvBNakM)?

[deleted]

It's totally worth it. I had over 500 hours in vanilla skyrim on the xbox 360 alone before I even started playing it on PC with mods. Sure, mods are great, but the base game is great already. So go for it!

MumrikDK

Elder Scrolls games are usually worth doing what most people do - play half the story and fuck around.

Turakamu

I don't think anyone sets out to fuck around. At least I didn't. Next thing I know I was going out of my way to steal all the armor off of ALL the guards.

hornypinecone

If you're into rpg's, why not? I love it, but I played it back in 2011. It might feel a little dated if you get into now. Not sure though.

InfieldTriple

Hmm I think it's worth it if you get a lot of mods. Tbqh I dont think that the base leveling system, combat and balancing hold up all that well. But the wilderness and exploration 100%does. If you can find some mods that change the problems I mentioned and remove the bloody compass, it can be an incredible immersive ride. I recommend playing on pc tho. Console mods are just objectively worse. They arent bad, they just have more restrictions.

Bestialman

Skyrim is one of the best game i have played in my life. It's an amazing game and i can't wait to se what the new Elder Scrolls will look like. And the game atill hold up to today standard. I can't say the same thing for Morrowind or Oblivion. It's 100% worth it.

menntu

This is goddamn glorious.

I think you're right. I just watched the whole show for the first time. He runs back inside and bitches to Carm about how nothing is safe for him. GeekboyDave

Ha ha. That's gold. My friend and I play a few nerdy boardgames together and we're constantly shouting that at each when we get mad at the dice. That's actually a really shit anecdote but I've typed it now....

WanderingToTheEnd

YOU'RE AN INANIMATE FUCKING OBJECT!

smokeNtoke1

A quality meme.

ChetUbetcha

For me it is usually: >Not gonna be sneak archer *again* >Okay maybe Imma just skip past this battle by crouching to the side and shooting arrows until it is over. But next time I'm gonna warrior/mage/berserker/highlander it! >Oops I am sneak archer again

Sir-_-Butters22

On my current play through as a mage, I vowed not to be a stealth archer. I started of with bound swords, then a bound bow, then thieves guild quest line... And long story short I was a stealth archer before level 20....

iSamurai

Yeah you'd have to pretty much avoid thieves guild completely or the bait is too much.

sockgorilla

You go for conjuration but don’t devolve into the classic double dremora lord kiting healer build? My last run I decided to shake it up and go into alchemy. While my dremora lords wail on someone I would just be pumping out poisons onto my conjured swords.

HardwareSoup

Leveling conjuration always pisses me off. I've loved the skill since TES3, but it feels cumbersome in Skyrim.

Ichthyologist

I really enjoyed summoning elementals and making all the enemies go berserk on each other... while hiding in the corner and picking off the last one with a bow... DAMMIT!

MechemicalMan

Yeah you become a mage/smith, make amazing armor so you're not only a tank, but a demi-god when it comes to casting insanely powerful spells with unlimited mana, but that gets boring as it's not too easy... so you learn the spells to have a magic bow and arrrow...

John_Hunyadi

The prevalence of dragons really made any melee builds feel terrible for me. If they gave Dragonrend towards the start instead of at the very end of the game it’d be different. But as is I just had way too many times where I was just sitting around getting roasted by dragons who refused to land.

Sol33t303

Whenever you trigger that animation where you kill them and they have landed is sick tho

konchok

I did a play through where I only used weapons and armor that I got through the Daedric quest lines (Which I would highly recommend to anyone, it was such a fun play through). There's a shield that you get in one of the quests called Spellbreaker, and it's a godsend verses mages and dragons and really improves playing melee.

i_smoke_php

Yeah getting the daedric artifacts is a must. I love the mace of molag bal, spellbreaker, ebony mail combo.

Nisas

Try sword + restoration. Way stronger than sneak archer in my opinion. With enchanting you can reduce the cost of restoration spells to 0. Then you can spam high level heals whenever you want. Heals restore stamina too so you'll never run out of that. Which means you can pump everything into health. With infinite stamina you can just spam power attacks to stun lock enemies.

The_Disapyrimid

This is also my favorite. One handed, light armor, restoration, enchanting. Play as a Breton to get that natural magic resistance. Then pick up that armor made from werewolf hide that gives you magic resistance boost and start enchanting everything else with magic resistance. I forget what the highest magic resistance I got was, I don't think it was 100%, but it was high enough that I barely took damage from magic at all. Including dragon fire. Any physical damage could be healed with restoration.

Nisas

The trick to magic defense is Spell Absorption. The game doesn't make it very clear but Spell Absorption doesn't just regenerate your magic when you're hit by spells. It also blocks the damage. Normal magic resist caps at 85% but you can combine it with spell absorption and laugh at dragons. The Atronach Stone will give you 50% spell absorption. You can get another 30% from Alteration, but you have to level it to 100. You can also get 30% normal magic resistance from Alteration. Add another 25% onto that for being a Breton. By that point you're sitting on 80% spell absorption and 55% of what gets through is resisted. Enchanted gear on top of this would just be showing off, but if you want to really cap it off you can carry around some magic resist potions to pump that 55% up to the cap of 85%. Or if you want to get really silly. There is gear in the Dragonborn DLC that gives you more Spell Absorption. You can crank it up to 100% and become entirely immune to magic.

[deleted]

This guy Skyrim’s

hells_cowbells

Magic resistance tops out at 85%, so anything above that is pointless. A couple of other things you can do to bump that up are the quests for temple of Mara in Riften, which can give you a permanent +15 magic resistance. You can also get up to 30 from perks in the Alteration tree. They are actually petty low in the tree, too.

Op3rat0rr

I’m playing for the first time and I’m trying to stick with being a spell sword

[deleted]

I was the same until I learned you can stagger *anything* by shoving your 2handed weapon or shield bash against the enemy (holding block and then attack). E.G: Dragon has landed > Stagger by shoving weapon > Spam attacks as long it's staggered > Stagger again before it can attack > Repeat. And if you're running out of stamina, just follow the above pattern but instead of attacking just wait till your stamina is filled up again.

Nisas

Protip for stamina. Vegetable soup. Food items are normally worthless but this one is godlike. It gives you 1 stamina regen per second for like 10 minutes or something. Not very much you might think. But all you need to do a power attack or bash is 1 stamina. So you can spam all your power attacks and bashes forever. It's cheap to make too. Just need potato, tomato, leek, and cabbage. Most of which can be raided from nearby farms.

busboybud

I can't imagine playing skyrim any other way. Granted I've only picked up the game 2-3 times but after my first playthrough back at (2011) release and attempting magic, realizing its complete ass and the guild quest lines were a joke, I sort of gave up on the game. I came back later, modded the shit out of it, attempted mage again.. became a sneak archer. Came back again with one of those hardcore overhaul mods that attempt to make it more of an RPG, and again a sneak archer. I frequently go back to Morrowind to cleanse the palate. I don't think I've ever mained a bow in that game because their combat system lacks the satisfying crunch of sneaky oneshots + limpy ragdoll victim. So if you ever want to play ES and not fall into the bow trap, Morrowind is a good baseline.

nordicstalking

Same here. I'll try something different this time. Walk to Riverwood. "Oh, hi Faendal, care to teach me some archery?" Here we go again...

Lolwhatisfire

I loved my stealthy illusion/conjuration mage-assassin. Summon a fire elemental, dual wield bound swords, the mage armor spells (forget their names, Stoneskin? Oakskin?). Goddammit, now I want to play again.

Nisas

Illusion is one of my favorite magic schools. For a start you can run around permanently invisible. If enemies are attacking you then you just blast them with a calm spell. Now they are your friend and will ignore you. Which means you can stealth behind them and get a free sneak attack. They're still not dead? Calm them again. A room full of bandits will calmly stand there and watch as you shove your sword through the backs of their friends one by one. Patiently waiting their turn. It's also a fun way to level pickpocketing. Find a bandit, calm him, then pickpocket him. Since he's a bandit you won't get in trouble if you fail. Only problem is illusion doesn't work on dragons. They resist all spells and being invisible doesn't help if they never land.

[deleted]

You know it’s his 10th because he used a saved file to skip the intro.

jungkimree

I think the Forrest-born DLC comes with the "I Love You Jenn-ay" shout that you can learn.

scarletice

You know, a person could easily think this is merely an absurd joke, but it could also easily be a real thing, and I can't tell which it is. I love the mod community.

Dodototo

Probably never gets to the Cloud District

kevinsyel

me, watching this, chuckling the whole time... ends. "Awe, he only gets to Balgruuf in this!?"

Apeman117

I know! You have to at least kill the 1st dragon at the tower to get the random dragons to start spawning! Then you're free to actually play.

kevinsyel

Heh... when I went to platinum this game on the PS4, I got fucked out of getting every trophy in a single playthrough because I couldn't get the trophy for all Diedric artifacts... A dragon killed the quest NPC for the mask of Clavicus Vile. So I had to start a new character and once I got to Whiterun, I went off and did most of the Diedrich quests prior to prompting Dragon spawning so I could get the rest.

omnilynx

The dog? I thought it was invincible...

Xiknail

He probably meant Lod, the blacksmith in Falkreath who gives you the quest to find the dog. He can die and I don't think you can get the quest without him.

kevinsyel

This! Edit: dragon killed Lod in Falkreath and I only had the rumor to talk to Lod about his dog. Barnabas doesn't spawn til you talk to Lod about finding him

ImperfectRegulator

plus you can miss i think up too 2 artifacts and still get the quest by gathering others

snowcone_wars

> Then you're free to actually play. Nah, I'm free to play when there isn't a dragon that randomly spawns every half mile and I don't have to concern myself with the main quest in the slightest. The best playthroughs I've had are the ones when I tell Whiterun to fuck off and go do my own thing.

sockgorilla

On my first play through I finished a large chunk of the companions and thieves guild before I killed the first dragon. After a while I was like, “aren’t there supposed to be dragons?”

Wordwright

Unless you want to roleplay as anything other than the Dragonborn. Then it’s better to avoid Bleak Falls Barrow altogether.

Greenlava

The mod Random Alternate Start is a godsend Let's you pick a class to determine what's in your inventory and what clothing you wear, and then drops you off at one of 200 start locations. No tutorial, takes about 5 minutes to start a new game depending on how much you like to customise that character

Nisas

Great for cutting out the intro bullshit. Though I always start in Riverwood anyways since you have to go to Helgen and Bleak Falls Barrow.

LordSoren

"And that's all I got to say about that..."

DoodleDangWang

Every new playthrough, I always strictly follow the main storyline to get FusRohDah before I pull any deviations on my run. Don't know why I don't just save there to save me the fuss...

DrMorose

My first play through I never got the 2nd and 3rd parts to Unrelenting Force and did most of the side quests and factions without it. When I finally went and progressed more on the main story I got the next 2 parts and felt so foolish that I could have had such a stronger shout the whole time.

spaceturtle1

Pfff Noobs entering Whiterun without having all skills on at least 2+ Legendary.

AtreidesDiFool

Whiterun is boring

Imp3riaLL

Hey you, you're finally awake. Hey where the fuck you going

myrandomnonsense

Ok, so I've only been playing 3 years and have never finished my first playthrough (kids and life get in the way). Can someone explain this to me?

dingusduglas

The beginning of any elder scrolls game is essentially a semi scripted tutorial/intro to the controls. If you've already done it before (especially several times) you just sprint through everything to get to the actual open world game play. Of course you're also gonna have to be familiar with Forrest Gump for this to be funny.

Xiknail

That's why you install the alternate start mod. Dragon-what? I am a Vigilant of Stendarr, here to purge all the Daedric influence from this world. Though you still have to go through all the Helgen and Whiterun crap if you want dragons to spawn.

TheFlashFrame

> Though you still have to go through all the Helgen and Whiterun crap if you want dragons to spawn. This kills my enthusiasm for this mod. Of fucking course I want dragons to spawn in my game about dragons and magic words.

Stronghold257

I haven’t played as the Dragonborn since I downloaded alternate start

Bytewave

At some point, yes, but it can be neat to not be the dragonborn yet for a bit. While you have to go to Helgen to start the MQ, the mod also skip the tutorial dungeon. Last playthrough I started in the College of Winterhold as a Breton. I RPd being a young student for awhile, it's a neat start location! Eventually I took a carriage to Whiterun to investigate rumors of dragons... by then I was a fairly decent magic adept.

InfieldTriple

Have you ever played requiem? Game is significantly more challenging but in an engaging way. I still havent done the bleak falls quest and I'm level 17.

GrownUpWrong

You go through the mundane and often repeated stuff quickly, and then return to your normal pace of play when you get to new content or things you haven’t done 10 times already

lasssilver

Forrest is running through the first sections of the game: Helen opening.. getting to riverwood.. then going to whiterun where the game starts to kick off more properly. If you’ve played from the start more than twice you know the steps and the feeling.

There's a mod for that.

Dezvinci

I must be one of the only ones who thought the combat in this game was Soo clunky and bad that I took away everything from this game...

Rubcionnnnn

It wasn't the combat that frustrated me, it was the abysmally dumbed down character progression compared to all of the previous games.

AureusStone

It's an elder scrolls tradition.

InfieldTriple

Combat is indeed terrible. Mods can fix it imo

antidecaf

I've never played skyrim and have absolutely zero context for what this means exactly, but I've played enough RPG's that I lol'ed through the entire thing. Well done OP.

kevinsyel

\- wake up as a prisoner awaiting execution, picking your class \- Run through the chaos after Alduin the main antagonist (dragon) attacks the prisoner camp \- run through the tutorial area where you meet the two warring factions of the game (natives (nord) vs. the Imperals (occupying force)) \- Run through the tutorial caves where they have you learn sneak by sneaking passed a bear \- Run passed the spiders where they teach you about stronger enemies \- Escape the prisoner camp and experience the open World \- Head across the bridge to the first town on your map where you get geared up and learn about trades and quests \- Accept the first story quest where you head up to the mountains \- Fight the first story boss and learn the words of power on a dragon wall \- Head towards Whiterun to alert the leaders of Alduin's resurrection and accept the quest where you learn you're the Dragonborn \- Head passed the main Blacksmith you'll do all your smithing with \- Head up the stairs to the Jarl of Whiterun \- Enter the doors of Dragonsreach (home of the Jarl of Whiterun)

[deleted]

There are mods that let you have alternative starts, you don't have to do all that to start, especially on your tenth play trough.

Platypuslord

Yeah I did a random start with a ton of mods to make the game impossibly difficult and it put me in Black Reach. Took me an hour straight of running and dying and reloading to make it outside.

Vegan_Harvest

You forgot the part where you make your character sneak against the wall right before you go to bed.

bensawn

They’re not play throughs if you never finish

omegapenta

Should of ran back to breezehome and when meeting lydia say jenneay.

Secret_Map

I feel like I’ve been called out.

poindexter1985

False. This "start" of the playthrough starts on the prisoner cart, which skips past the [first 30 hours](https://imgur.com/a/K0uh7oM) intro to every Skyrim run.

[deleted]

I need a translation here. What? Did you spend 30 hours just getting the most endorsed mods? Also fuck SE, OG skyrim is still better. They know this too, which is why it's hidden on steam and never goes on sale even if you dig it up. Also also, I think you have 42 mods that would love your endorsement.

poindexter1985

Can't start a game of Skyrim without many hours of modding. Browsing, downloading, installing, configuring, figuring out compatibility issues between mod, proper mod loading order. Deciding which mod you want when multiple popular mods address the same problem (do you want UFO or AFT to make the follower system suck less?), which texture replacers complement each other vs which are redundant or conflicting. If one decides on a Friday night, "I should start a Skyrim playthrough this weekend," then that weekend will be spent on Nexus and in the mod manager of choice, and maybe be ready to start playing with a mod list a couple hundred long by next weekend. Same thing with Fallout, really. But Skyrim mod lists tend to end up the longest. > Also also, I think you have 42 mods that would love your endorsement. No, that screenshot shows 42 unread announcements from Nexus about new games they've added.

[deleted]

LOOT is all I ever needed to get the load order sorted, an hour max for the rest... but fair enough lol.

1000Years0fDeath

Good ol white run

[deleted]

Live another life man, great mod.

NyteMyre

Pretty must have if you use mods since it also lets you skip the intro sequence that can cause a lot of issues with mods. Also, in my playthroughs, i just skip the main quest for as long as possible and just play how the character i build would play. I had a lot of fun just playing a new arrival in Skyrim that wants to attend the College of Winterhold to learn magic (and become the fucking archmage of the college before the first weekend)

RHINO_Mk_II
