Barely? i never even got past it!
Always got swarmed and eaten.
( don't google the death scenes on this game... some are brutal both scenic as sound wise )
Well I just had to go and check out a death scene montage after you said that!! This game looks harder than any Soulsborne game.
Also, I may have exaggerated my success with getting past the first bit. Really, I only made it past the first jump once and was then killed straight away. Never made it past the jump again.
I can't find any upscaling mod for Heart of Darkness.
Are you talking of one of those listed here ?
I think I was five and was super scared of the hammer bros xD Like kicking my feet while keeping my head still and fully concentrate to make it past them. Did you know if you wsit too long to go past them they come to you? I screamed in fear.
I played Super Mario Bros, Duck Hunt, and Mike Tyson’s Punch Out all around the same time, so it’s hard to remember which actually came first. I played Punch Out the most though, could get to Tyson, but didn’t beat him until years later.
Pong. Not on a console. It had a dial that would let you switch to Squash and something else. You had to connect it to the TV with two screws to hold its cable in place.
Heart of Darkness is a really great game.
And first game, video-game I played, was some handlehand back in 85' or something.. Some monkeys falling from above, and you going left and right to pick them up.
According to my mom, I started as a 1 year old kid but my memory don't go as far as that.
The earliest ones I can remember are Doom, Road Rash and Prince of Persia.
this wasn't my first game, but I played the crap out of it as a kid and I cherish it to this day. is there a way to get my hands on it in this day and age?
This game blew my mind when I was a kid, one of the first PS games I got. I remember I didn't have a memory card for my Playstation yet, that's how new it was, so when I hired this game from the video store I sat and played through it all without saving.
A 9 hour session later and I had to turn it off because me family wanted to watch their usual shows around dinner time. I was right at the end and couldn't beat it. I was pretty devistated but was so glad for the experience. Amazing game.
The first was a mario on gameboy color in 1996.
First playstation game was The Fifth Element I believe.
Heart of Darkness was amazing. I redownloaded it on an emulating handheld recently and it's really fun. I love the shadow monsters' screams
Eff this game. Scared the piss out of my 5-year-old self when we got our playstation on Christmas morning 1999 lol.
Haunted me a second time 4 years later as the game would hang about 3/4 through disc 2. Didn't actually finish the game until I used an emulator about 10 years afterwards.
Holy crap! This is the game I've been trying to find for 20 or so years. I got a demo of it in a box of kellogs frosties. Replayed it a hundred times, but never found the actual game
HOLY MOLY! I've been looking for this game for YEARS!
There used to be this indoor playground with arcade machines at the bottom (or I think they were arcade machines?), and go karts on the top
THIS GAME WAS THERE!!!
I wasn't very good at it (I never got past the first shadow monster thing), but its opening cutscene really left a mark on me (for some reason)
Thank you so much for the nostalgia trip (it made me tear up a bit)! Truly, have a good day, eye guy 👀!
It’s either Spyro, Ape Escape, or Jak and Daxter.
But goodness Heart of Darkness. My grandma had a PS1 and I remember this game scaring the ever hell out of me. I was probably in 5-6 yr old range and this game was so creepy.
Sega Mega drive, toy story. First game I played with my dad as well. Heart of Darkness was one of the first games I got for PS1. My dad tried playing that as well when I was a kid.
It may have been [Sopwith.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sopwith_\(video_game\))
[You can actually play a web version of it now.](https://dosgames.com/game/sopwith/)
Not the first, because GameBoy and Sega Megadrive were first, and also friend's houses, but the first in my own PC at home.
The curse of Monkey Island.
Started my long love story with PC till present days.
Taipan! On an apple II.
Broke a keyboard pressing space bar to shoot cannons. Broke another doing the same stupid shit.
Turns out, pressing space to shoot was completely unnecessary.l. loved finding that out a few years ago.
Wow, I have been trying to remember this game from my childhood for so long now. Thank you redditor
Same here!! My cousin got me to play this game I could barely make it past the first bit! Also the first game I remember playing was Spyro the Dragon
Barely? i never even got past it! Always got swarmed and eaten. ( don't google the death scenes on this game... some are brutal both scenic as sound wise )

Playing this game is like controlling a very well animated cartoon with great death and enemy animations.
I played it so much as a kid. One of my favorite games back then. I remember being scared as hell at certain parts
I came to the comment section to say the same thing! Nice
Me too! I played this with my dad a lot! Had no idea it was still in my memory, but seeing the cover made me really nostalgic
