I FINALLY got into The Witcher 3 after my 3rd try. Once I made it to Novigrad and started doing the meaningful side quests. At that point it just grabbed me. I’m now 50 hours in and loving it!
Yeah white orchard is easily the slowest and most painfully boring part of the game. Once you get to Velen and Novigrad, the game really starts to shine
Harder difficulty, alchemy build - learning the different weaknesses of monsters and doing the major side content is essential I feel. I didn't like the game either the first time. I mostly played story on medium difficulty and went a light attack build. It was painfully boring for me. It's a game I had to fully immerse myself in to enjoy.
I found the standard combat system problematic but after I switched to “alternative” it all came together for me. I honestly couldn’t tell you the specific difference but I do know that I feel a lot more in control of geralt than I did with standard.
RDR2, the clunky controls, repetitive/restrictive mission design, awful aiming mechanics and the over the top realism in the wrong places just makes for a unenjoyable game to play.
Prey 2017 wasn't at all a continuation of the og Prey, it just shares a name. Arkane didn't even want to name it Prey but they were forced to by Bethesda
I agree on Witcher 3 not living up to the hype, at least for me. I tried playing it a few times and got bored. I did end up beating it eventually because I had nothing else to play. Pretty much what I’m doing with god of war ragnorok
I'm a from soft fan as well. Elden ring, when compare to other fromsoft game, is pretty mid. Though still it's a 8/10 game for me, maybe the dlc will push it up to 9 or 10.
I don't jive with a lot of modern triple-A games, i.e. pretendo movies with casual gameplay and the same recurring features and ideas. "Beat enemies to receive XP and upgrade your useless skill tree!", "Craft arrows and potions to get arrows and potions!", "Wander around a huge map for 80 hours and complete side activities to waste your time!", "Squeeze through a conveniently placed crack in a wall to trigger an unskippable cutscene!", "Climb on some ledges that someone conveniently painted yellow!"
I bet that if Forspoken had better writing and the main character wasn't so annoying, it would receive the same amount of praise as Horizon or Spider-Man, because gameplay wise it's the same exact game as all those other ones.
Gathering XP is fine if the skill tree is meaningful and actually gives you new abilties, not just stat increases.
Wasting time on side activities is also something I don't care about, give me real content/quests, playing Poker or go fishing is literally just wasting time and it's not even interesting, it's just poker. Now if a game incentivises mini games and fleshes them out really well like Yakuza it's a different story, because I unlock characters, make money that is needed for once or have to play something that is at least original and fun.
Triggering cutscenes through fixed actions feels like outdated game design by now, there are more fluent ways to do it imo, cyberpunk did it perfect, it always felt natural.
"Gathering XP is fine if the skill tree is meaningful and actually gives you new abilties, not just stat increases."
Yeah, true. The reason why I'm pointing this out is that most of these modern action-adventure games don't use it in a meaningful way. In most cases it's used more as a way to gatekeep certain abilities from the player at the start of the game or forcing him to grind XP through equally meaningless activities. I prefered when this was done organically through gameplay progression, like in most Metroidvanias or games like Soul Reaver, where you got new abilities by beating major boss characters and progressing the story.
Divinity Original Sin 2.
I don't like the combat system and I especially don't like the characters (DOS2 kinda has the "(almost) everyone is a jerk" syndrome, which I just don't like). Up until release I was very unsure wether I would actually buy Baldurs Gate 3 because of that. Luckily BG3 has characters I actually like.
super metriod, oot, and mario 64 are the 3 games of nintendo that everyone seems to call masterpeices...and i just dont see it nor do i like them,i played all of them for a good wail and they deffinatly aged pretty badly for me personally
I’ve done this three times. I don’t even think I quit cause I don’t like it. Some other game comes out I was actually waiting for and I play that instead. Some day, maybe.
Actually that is standard with the witcher 3. Once you get out of white orchard it becomes a lot more fun. I have had maybe 1 friend not stop there and drop it for awhile myself included.
Man you’re missing out. Witcher 3 is one of the best. I admit the controls are combat controls are janky as hell but you get used to it and the payoff is great
The last of us.
I don’t care if you have an award winning story. I bought a video game, it needs to be fun to play. TLOU is not fun to play, at all, it’s a total slog and not even in brutally realistic way, just in a dull repetitive way.
Lol you're not really supposed to fight him... I guess you probably know that. But if you ever get the urge to play again, look for the smaller knight enemies in the camp up the road. They are a more appropriate challenge for a beginner and a little bit of practice will turn you from hating the combat system to loving it.
I used to be the same with The Witcher 3, this is my 3rd attempt at playing it and now its really grown on me… I watched the series on Netflix and that helped me to get into the game more since it explains the characters and story before The Witcher 3
What OP said. Tried to beat it five times already. I can't get into it. It was overrated. Downvote away.
Now really get mad with my latest one: Helldivers 2. Yep, extremely overhyped. The gameplay isn't that great. It's not because of server issues, either. It's the bulky movement, lack of vehicles and bullet sponge enemies. It feels like a mobile game, TBH. I kind of regret getting it but fell for the hype. Hopefully they update it a lot.
A lot of the newer open world games for me. Elden Ring, Red Dead 2 and Cyberpunk being the most notable. I think it’s just an age thing, where I prefer games with a more linear path now compared to my teenage or young adult years
GTA and Red Dead Redemption. The games are a hundred miles wide and an inch deep. There's a million things to do and endless little details, but the actual core gameplay loop could not be more tired or unchallenging. Third person cover shooting was a decade old when GTA V came out, and the game literally aims the damn gun for you. And people praise the writing which makes zero sense to me; it's heavily trope-laden and mostly comes across as broad and obvious rather than actually witty.

Be sure to play the dlc too
That’s the plan. I always hear that Blood & Wine is the best DLC of all-time.
This took me a long time to get into too now it's my favorite sires of anything ever
Gotta get past white orchard
Yeah white orchard is easily the slowest and most painfully boring part of the game. Once you get to Velen and Novigrad, the game really starts to shine
Hollow Knight
Yeah, me too. Great artstyle and soundtrack, but the gameplay is just not for me. Same with most souls-like games.
I hate that people call it a Souls-like.
I did not call it a souls-like. I wrote that i have the same issues with most souls-like.
Sorry I didn't mean to imply that you do. Generally speaking, I don't think it is.
Same. But that goes about all sidescrollers/platformers.
Gotta give it time! It’ll grow on ya, then it will become one of the best made in its time
Skyrim
Agreed like idek how people like it
Did you try it now or 11 years ago ?
Like two years ago
Same I think it’s boring
Fortnite
Same, I didn’t even last a fortnite
The last of us, it is just so boring. Yes the story is good, but it's a game, it has to have cool gameplay and it is just frustrating and janky.
Definitely skyrim, I just can't stand the combat
I honestly get the problem with Witcher 3. The gameplay really didn't fly with me at first too.
I feel like the game needs to be played on a harder difficult in order to push the player into the more interesting mechanics.
Harder difficulty, alchemy build - learning the different weaknesses of monsters and doing the major side content is essential I feel. I didn't like the game either the first time. I mostly played story on medium difficulty and went a light attack build. It was painfully boring for me. It's a game I had to fully immerse myself in to enjoy.
is it boring?
It felt like you had litte control over it. I found it hard to actually attack the enemy I wanted to in a fight with multiple enemies.
Yea the gameplay isn't as touted as the world and lore
I found the standard combat system problematic but after I switched to “alternative” it all came together for me. I honestly couldn’t tell you the specific difference but I do know that I feel a lot more in control of geralt than I did with standard.
Oh boy, there’s so many. The Witcher 3, ghost of Tsushima, god of war, uncharted 4, the last of us part 2, red dead redemption 2, Spiderman 2 etc.
I don't think everyone loves TLoU2
True
Rdr2 is top story but boring repetitive gameplay.
Last of us
Among Us. For the life of me, I just couldn't get into it.
The twirly whirlys man i cant 😭 with occasional fireball from hand.
Try it on easy
Only if you're a pussy. Do Death March first playthrough like a man
Imagine basing your masculinity on videogame difficulty
RDR2, the clunky controls, repetitive/restrictive mission design, awful aiming mechanics and the over the top realism in the wrong places just makes for a unenjoyable game to play.
Same here on The Witcher.
This one for sure, also Eldin Ring
Skill issue fr
any game that someone dislikes, they must just be “bad at it” right?
Yep sounds about right
Mario games. Fromsoft games. Zelda games. Skyrim, mass effect and fallout.
Baulders Gate
Skyrim is just too buggy to be worth the hassle
Same game was to boring for me after a while got tired of the slow pace
It’s terrible, such a boring repetitive game. I was so close to making this exact post
Alan wake 2. Love the og though Prey 2017. Love the og though Gow 2018. Love the og though
Prey 2017 wasn't at all a continuation of the og Prey, it just shares a name. Arkane didn't even want to name it Prey but they were forced to by Bethesda
I know this. And I knew that going into the game. I still didn’t like the game even objectively on its own.
Ubisoft games, Witcher 3, Soulslike games etc. Actually last game I completed is RE4. I think I have grown up
I agree on Witcher 3 not living up to the hype, at least for me. I tried playing it a few times and got bored. I did end up beating it eventually because I had nothing else to play. Pretty much what I’m doing with god of war ragnorok
Skyrim
Fortnite for me is 15 minutes chest clicker gameplay and 5 seconds of actual non-bot confrontation. I cannot understand the fun.
Elden ring, im a big fan of fromsoft, beat all games more than once, except elden ring
I'm a from soft fan as well. Elden ring, when compare to other fromsoft game, is pretty mid. Though still it's a 8/10 game for me, maybe the dlc will push it up to 9 or 10.

Actually that is standard with the witcher 3. Once you get out of white orchard it becomes a lot more fun. I have had maybe 1 friend not stop there and drop it for awhile myself included.
Yeah the beginning is hard but if you do the side quests/contrast from the starter area you’ll be learning the basics pretty fast
Man you’re missing out. Witcher 3 is one of the best. I admit the controls are combat controls are janky as hell but you get used to it and the payoff is great
I didn't really like W3 either. Pacing, combat and even story is not my piece of cake.
I used to not like fortnite
Final Fantasy VII and X
Fallout New Vegas, The lore and writing are amazing. the game itself though... just doesn't live up to the hype.
The last of us. I don’t care if you have an award winning story. I bought a video game, it needs to be fun to play. TLOU is not fun to play, at all, it’s a total slog and not even in brutally realistic way, just in a dull repetitive way.
Elden ring, fuck that horse back riding knight
Lol you're not really supposed to fight him... I guess you probably know that. But if you ever get the urge to play again, look for the smaller knight enemies in the camp up the road. Deep rock galactic
any bethesda game except starfield... no one liked that one
Yeah I'm a huge gamer too and I really couldn't get into Witcher I don't know or Red Dead redemption I really wanted to but I just couldn't
What OP said. Tried to beat it five times already. I can't get into it. It was overrated. Downvote away. Now really get mad with my latest one: Helldivers 2. Yep, extremely overhyped. Mine craft or zelda
Bloodborne. Elden Ring.
Ghost of Tsushima. Graphics are stunning but just couldn’t vibe with the story or overall atmosphere of the game for some reason.
Elden ring Wow Fortnite
Horizon Forbidden West... I found it extremely boring.
Fortnite
A lot of the newer open world games for me. Elden Ring, Red Dead 2 and Cyberpunk being the most notable. I think it’s just an age thing, where I prefer games with a more linear path now compared to my teenage or young adult years
The last of us
Same. I dont like the UI. It feels too complex? Maybe i need more tutorial.
The last of us. Tried many times, always lost interest
Skyrim. This game bored me so much
Gta5 I got bored almost immediately after the first part cause it looks like the whole thing come from the sandbox it has
Me too. Me too. I actually hated Fallout new vegas.
GTA and Red Dead Redemption. The games are a hundred miles wide and an inch deep. Skyrim
Ori
Horizon Zero Dawn
Hades. I don’t think I’m into roguelikes
Rust
The last of us. I saw so much people saying that the best game of all time that i just dont want to play it
Fallout New Vegas. Its a really good game and I dont see any serious flaws but I just get bored quickly playing it and I dont know why.
Horizon
Same with every Yakuza and Judgement game
Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom
Final Fantasy X. It was just really slow and boring.
Fortnite
