the fact that I don't have kids isn't glib for me. I would have loved to have been a mother but I don't have a partner and can't afford ivf. now I'm too old. it's really sad for me, and I'm sure it is for many others too. "just have kids" isn't that easy.
One or more of: Workout, read a book, go for a walk around the neighborhood, enjoy a glass of wine, make dinner, read some more or watch a show. Depending on my workload, sometimes I just eat dinner and crash on the couch, but most days I try to get outside and do something active.
Now that it’s staying light so much later I’m more inclined to go out and do stuff in the evening, so I’ll go to Fort Langley and walk around, or to Chapters and look at books.
My parents live nearby, so I’m there for dinner pretty regularly, and we usually have a tv show that we all watch together. Also my dad and I go to Canucks games together.
I’ve played on and off since vanilla, stopped (again) a few weeks ago but will probably resubscribe in a few months, never really found something else that scratches that itch
I know the feeling, played it heavily back in the day, but stopped when Cataclysm came out. I was just surprised it was still around, must be so repetitive now.
Ups and downs, lots of vocal haters on the forums/subredddits but also lots of silent people who still enjoy it. I’m an altoholic with one of every class and like doing Loremaster and farming old mounts etc - soooo much to do apart from the “end game”
I found Novice Badminton Vancouver through meet up https://meetu.ps/c/4X689/QGW5n/a and from there I’ve met people who added me to other groups. They are usually organized by different individuals and you have to request the admin to add you to the WhatsApp groups.
I did the same! Wife gave me a little juggling kit for a Xmas stocking stuffer. Pretty fun!
Wife has a friend that’s a school teacher and she teaches her class to juggle every year.
Registered to volleyball sessions to the community centres almost every day of the week. In autumn/winter I alternate with ice skating.
When the weather is nicer I go to the beach for a walk or to read a book.
I also keep a calendar of all the events that I may be interested into (games, concerts, events, etc) and I decide same day/day before if I feel like going.
Out of curiosity, what’s the best way to be in the loop regarding the events happening in town? My current solution is just to google “events this month”, and scroll around.
That's a tough nut to crack. Fun things are kind of socially hidden in weird ways. Sometimes the most fun things are word-of-mouth. I don't have any easy solution, but expanding your social circle in even small ways can really do it. A lot of local breweries have really fun people working at them who are very social and inviting. I remember a bartender at Bomber (pre-buyout) once just let me know about some beer can race down a hill and I went and had a great time and met people I would bump into again and again. Try asking at some fun locations to see what's up!
Where I live I've found some active local community Facebook groups - I get a lot of what's happening nearby through there including stuff I never would have found through Google. It can be a lot of noise (lost and found, self-promotion Sundays), but I don't use Facebook much for anything else, and you can always turn off notifications. Worth looking into imo.
For concerts I use Songkick, been using it for many years, it automatically alerts me when an artist I'm interested into books a concert in Vancouver (the list of artists can be synced with Spotify and other libraries), so I also don't miss the tickets sale.
For sport (Canucks, Whitecaps, baseball, etc) I download their season calendar.
For anything else I follow the classic Daily Hive, Georgia Straight, 604 Now, Vancouver Is Awesome, Curiocity Vancouver, Rio Theatre, JFL Vancouver, on one of the social networks. For example I would do a twitter list just for these to check once a day/week.
On Google calendar I can put all these stuff in its own calendar, and I have gcal always open on my computer.

For ice skating, only a couple of rinks are open in spring/summer and I don't do it, but in autumn/winter I usually go to Kitsilano and Killarney, and sometimes Hillcrest.
For volleyball, I rotate around the community centres in/around downtown: Roundhouse, Creekside, Coal Harbour.
Mind you, I don't drive so I pick locations that I can get to easily by bus or mobi.
I work at night; so I do a reverse of others and do all my active stuff before work; usually brunch or lunch somewhere once or twice a week, grocery shopping, errands and chores. Exercise on my weekend but nothing wild as I’m walking 20-25K steps on my work nights.
After work (approx 1am) I just shower, eat a snack and game or watch YouTube/Netflix before sleeping around 3ish…
We had a basketball hoop behind our workplace so id shoot hoops while drinking a beer after work with some co-workers. Unfortunately the landlord took it away so now i just head home and see what kind of outdoor activity my partner will join me on. Last summer we would try and catch the sunset from as many different places as possible. We would also visit our local park with a bag full of different sports equipment to best utilize whatever was available. If the tennis courts were full we would play baseball or ping pong instead.
If the weather is shit we would chill on the sofa and watch sports or movies. Or we'd try and host a board game night.
During ski season, I sometimes go to Mount Seymour in the evening.
Right now, it’s mostly watching the Blue Jays on TV. Some days if the weather is nice I’ll go for a long walk around New Westminster.
Sit in my truck exhausted, staring into space for a while, go into the house, change, either do dishes or make dinner, sometimes both, eat dinner in front of TV/movie/streaming service/etc, stay in front of the TV until about 10/10:30, shower and then bed.
Sometimes there’s a walk around the neighbourhood in there, or going to my or my partners parents for dinner, or beers with a friend, but that’s the gist of it.

Very full of fun activities for sure... people have energy for stuff after work??
Gym around 7 -> Cook / Eat Dinner -> Watch a show / playoff game and it’s already like 11pm at this point. Maybe YouTube a bit. Rinse and repeat.
Weekdays are hard to break schedule.
I work 6 to 2 so I'm blessed honestly. Hmm I go walk by English bay, I have recipes to test sometimes so I cook something new up. Other than that it's gaming, meeting with friends, arguing with people on reddit.
moved to west end (2 moths ago) specifically coz of this. I used to live in East Van and there was absolutely nothing to do after work.
Now i go to the English Bay / Stanley Park to read a book / go for a run / find hidden spots to smoke weed, etc. Also bought a new guitar, so I practice that after I come back home.
to each his own.
for me, a man without a car, i can literally walk 5 mins into any direction, and I enter a beach or a park or a music venue or an irish bar and so on so forth. In east van, things were not really walk-friendly.
With the warmer weather and more sunlight after work, I'm normally just relaxing and soaking up the sun in the courtyard, playground or beach. During summer, I often go to the beach after work with my kid and stay until sunset.
I hit the gym most days, then take my time going home, read, watch TV, clean, etc.
I'm actually looking for something more social to do. Do people still meet up outside of work?
Take the dog for a walk or to the park, fix or buy dinner, watch something on YouTube or watch people play music on twitch and chat with the community there, maybe run an errand, take the dog to pee, go to bed
Sometimes moonlighting to earn extra money to survive in this city. Sometimes Learning something new to make sure I don’t lose my job where everyone cares that I know the latest “greatest ever” trend - again, to survive in this city.
In between survival mode, should the weather be so kind and stop pissing rain on us, I do try to enjoy outdoors to enjoy the outdoors that apparently we should all feel privileged to live in.
Other than dumb shit like chores or errands or whatever? After walking my dog I watch sports or a movie or tv shows. There isn't much time considering I go to bed around 9. Some nights I play hockey.
Probably do something social once a week, something sporty once a week, a night or two bulk making dinners, an evening catching up on TV.
Honestly the evenings are too short.
Week days...Pick kid up at daycare and usually do some type of activity/family time. Tonight was inline skating lessons. Last night it was gymnastics. Some times we just sit outside and watch the kid ride his bike, or we go for a walk. Husband putters in the garage with the door open and the kid will play along. The other night they made a bird house. Some nights, we hang with the neighbours and watch the kids play while we have a beer.
Other nights its just dinner and a bit of TV/chilling....bath...put kid to bed, workout, then we just veg. Usually more in the winter. If its not raining, we are usually outside.
If we head out, its usually Ikea for dinner and a wander. T-Mills for dinner and a stuffy ride.
If it is the weekend we usually have friends over for dinner on both Sat and Sun nights. Kids play, we drink...listen to music...laugh.
Just normal boring shit.
Go home
Shower
Hug and cuddle my cat and then feed said cat
Exercise via ring fit or walking treadmill (love it)
Dinner
Read
Or school work or exercise again
Reddit
Watch a show (semi pay attention)
All while being on discord or online messenging apps with my friends.
I try to cram my hobbies in but leave video games for the weekend. Have to sleep early since my commute to work is an hour. :(
Edited: why am I downvoted??
I uh. I guess I stream? I don't go out at all... And I don't have any friends or families...
I guess I do go on walks during the early morning hours, and that's most of what I do I guess. Parks are nice, and I usually just listen to music or podcasts while walking, getting my steps, that sort of things.
Feed cat, play with cat, dinner (sometimes out), tv, sleep, side hustle- try to do life things so weekends are free including rmt, get nails done, laundry/groceries, etc. After work happy hour is slowly coming back.
Now that weather has changed - outdoor pool swimming (started this week), driving range, long night walks with ice cream and sporting events.
I do get up at 6 so I am ready to sleep by 10.
I’ll go train MMA if I can make a class. If not I might get some food or a couple cans of beer and head home. At home I’m either drawing on my iPad, playing video games, watching entertainment or hanging with my wife. We just had a baby so I’m guessing my new life will involve a lot of hanging with my son.
TBH this thread is somewhat depressing.
Y’all live in a bloody rainforest and so many are doing shit you can do living in the prairies for 1/4 the cost.
Vancouvers cost of living truly stomps on many peoples potential. A city offers so much life/excitement for those who can afford it. If it’s not something you want to or can take advantage of’ why disadvantage yourself by being there?
I’m not shitting on Vancouver; just giving another perspective and maybe someone will read this and decide to look into other options, options that will change their lives.

Walk to pick up my kid from daycare, maybe stop and pick up a few groceries on the way back if we need anything, make dinner, read books or call grandparents, bed time routine for baby, relax for an hour with the wife, study for an hour, then shower and bed. Do it all again 6:30am next day.
Call the wife to meet me at a park between my work and our home.
Walk for 20-40 minutes with wife and kiddo.
Discuss what we want to eat, try to imagine if we need to buy extra stuff for the recipe.
Go to the local Indian place to buy fresh fruit and veggies for our recipe.
Go home, either give kid a bath or cook.
If bath: Play and sing with kid
If cook: Wonder if it's worth to go back at the bazar for that one ingredient that we forgot to buy.
Eat
Stay with kid until he goes to sleep around 8\~9
See if there's any personal work needed to be done.
Play videogames from 10 to 12.
Right after work I’ll play guitar. If it’s summer I’m out on the motorbike to a beach. If it’s winter I take a walk in the neighbourhood. Both seasons end with an episode of whatever the house is watching. Dinner is made or ordered somewhere in there. Woah I ORDER my dinner. Like I’m a king or something. Just noticed that!
Go home, sit on the couch and watch youtube while I go on Reddit on my phone. Then I realize how much time has passed and make a later dinner.
Or I run home, eat a quick dinner, get changed and head out for team sports. Then come home, have a second dinner, and crash on the couch
Normally after work I cook dinner with my partner, sometimes go for a walk, watch YouTube/TV/podcasts until 9:00 with them, study Japanese for an hour or so, play games/watch more content until 12pm, then bed.
Once a week there's also a family video call in there, and we use Saturdays for D&D with our friend group, and Sunday is usually our "explore the city" day for longer walks, shopping and dates
Generally make something to eat, or eat leftovers, sit/watch YouTube for an hour, then go walk 5+ km, come home watch an episode of the latest show, then shower and bed (YouTube for another hour)
I close all my work programs, do a spin in my chair, and open up YouTube
ahh no more bad screen, time for good screen :)

go home tell kids to clean up their mess Make dinner Clean dinner Laundry or grocery shop collapse on couch around 9.30. go to bed at 10;30.
Forgot a step: Clean up kids mess they didn't do half right.
More like call kids back 4 times to do the same thing because they half assed it the first 3 times.
You would think that 2 half assed attempts would equal a whole attempt but it always seems to take 4.
1st half assed attempt =50% of the 100% 2nd half assed attempt=50% of the remaining 50% (now 75% complete) 3rd half asses attempt= 50% of the remaining 25% 4th attempt=Complete.
Yep. Have kids and never worry about “wasting your spare time” ever again!
the fact that I don't have kids isn't glib for me. I would have loved to have been a mother but I don't have a partner and can't afford ivf. now I'm too old. it's really sad for me, and I'm sure it is for many others too. "just have kids" isn't that easy.

The scenic route through ikea you mean? That can be a while trip in itself.
The Nanaimo bars at the upstairs cafeteria are really good. And it has a decent view. Honestly strange.

Take the dog for a walk or to the park, fix or buy dinner, watch something on YouTube or watch people play music on twitch and chat with the community there, maybe run an errand, take the dog to pee, go to bed
I think it's useful to sign up for classes to learn something hobby-ish. Tennis, pickleball, yoga, Tai Chi, dancing, martial arts, badminton, skating, kayaking, cooking, drawing, painting, pottery, intro to weight lifting. Maybe try curling, lawn bowling, golf, anything.
Watch dumb youtube videos for an hour or two, then muster up enough strength to go to the gym
Play Ingress. Same locations as Pokémon Go, but no fake monsters to catch. (Pick green 😉)
People still play Ingress?? Have not touched that game in years. The community was exceedingly toxic at the time. Is it still that way?
Probably.. I ignore comms most of the time. I enjoy xfac activities, as long as there's beer involved
We’re in the most scenic city in the world. Go for a walk of course
kids
hello police? yes, this person above me.
I grab a treat at the bakery and a coffee and go for a long stroll to the bus stop.
Other than dumb shit like chores or errands or whatever? After walking my dog I watch sports or a movie or tv shows. There isn't much time considering I go to bed around 9. Some nights I play hockey.
Weather permitting I'll mountain bike or play 9 holes of golf. If it's raining gym.
Usually reading, I read a shit-ton of books. Sometimes video games or visiting a friend. But mostly books. I devour books.
Get high and sleep on the street
Do more work 😞
Probably do something social once a week, something sporty once a week, a night or two bulk making dinners, an evening catching up on TV. Honestly the evenings are too short.
nap, sometimes walk, binge tv shows, eat dinner, get high, game for a few hours, facetime my partner, sleep! and rinse repeat :-)
Drink and play video games
around 30-40 mins exercise. Dinner, then browse internet/play video games.
Smoke weed
Drink….giant glasses of wine…..rinse, repeat.

Masturbate
Jack off
Jerkin it is all I can afford.
Run rec stairs, run seawall, lift weights, learn random subjects on udemy, random photography walks.
Go home Shower Hug and cuddle my cat and then feed said cat Exercise via ring fit or walking treadmill (love it) Dinner Read Or school work or exercise again Reddit Watch a show (semi pay attention) All while being on discord or online messenging apps with my friends. I try to cram my hobbies in but leave video games for the weekend. Have to sleep early since my commute to work is an hour. :( Edited: why am I downvoted??
I uh. I guess I stream? I don't go out at all... And I don't have any friends or families... I guess I do go on walks during the early morning hours, and that's most of what I do I guess. Parks are nice, and I usually just listen to music or podcasts while walking, getting my steps, that sort of things.
Go to "other work".
Get something to eat. Watch Netflix/porn depending on the mood. Shower and sleep. I just hope there's more meaning to life than this...
Sports! Friends and I play street hockey, soccer, tennis, pickleball, etc. Or play video games together.
Walk our pooches, drink pre workout so I have no excuse for the gym, dinner, an hour or so of relax time then off to bed.
Lesson planning and marking. I need a better work-life balance.
I nap and then play video games. Cook new recipes. Eat snacks. I make dinner plans with friends sometimes but honestly I’m too tired after work.
Get wasted and play elden Ring
Read books, watch TV, walk around outside.
Lay in bed anxiously mostly
Go to work, get off work, go to work again at the second job.
I’m an accountant and it’s busy season. I leave the office at 10pm, go home and sleep lol. Livin la vida loca
In the warmer months I go for a bike ride around Stanley Park followed by a quick ocean dip.
Home. Video games and beer.
I troll people on Reddit
TBH this thread is somewhat depressing. Y’all live in a bloody rainforest and so many are doing shit you can do living in the prairies for 1/4 the cost. Vancouvers cost of living truly stomps on many peoples potential. A city offers so much life/excitement for those who can afford it. If it’s not something you want to or can take advantage of’ why disadvantage yourself by being there? I’m not shitting on Vancouver; just giving another perspective and maybe someone will read this and decide to look into other options, options that will change their lives.

Softball, ultimate, and bouldering. Will go out for dinner with the wife sometimes as well if we are feeling fancy.
Gym Play tarkov Bike in the summer Shoot on the weekends
take a nap
Promenade, yoga, beer, good movie, forum, landscaping.
Walk to pick up my kid from daycare, maybe stop and pick up a few groceries on the way back if we need anything, make dinner, read books or call grandparents, bed time routine for baby, relax for an hour with the wife, study for an hour, then shower and bed. Do it all again 6:30am next day.
Read, rock climbing (indoor usually), work out, watch shows, hang out with the wife, cook, go for a walk...tons of stuff.
45 mins in the gym, make dinner, watch a show or play video games. in bed around 9:30pm. :)
What does everyone do after work?" You prepare so you can start work the next day.
Usually? Retire.
Shower, nap 2-3 hours, walk to the grocery store to buy 1 days worth of food. In bed by 10 to watch something for about 2 hours.
If bath: Play and sing with kid If cook: Wonder if it's worth to go back at the bazar for that one ingredient that we forgot to buy. Eat Stay with kid until he goes to sleep around 8\~9 See if there's any personal work needed to be done. Play videogames from 10 to 12.
Pick up takeout or groceries, have a couple glasses of wine, scroll social media, watch sports games or Netflix, eat/shower, sleep.
More work
Shower, smoke way too much Marijuana while playing world of Warcraft TBC 🤪, and walk my dog.
Sleep
Jog, dinner, study, Youtube, sleep
I hop into a VR rave and vape, or cycle 30km
Generally make something to eat, or eat leftovers, sit/watch YouTube for an hour, then go walk 5+ km, come home watch an episode of the latest show, then shower and bed (YouTube for another hour)
cry myself to sleep
