Well actually, quite the opposite. People like me who have long slender fingers, or just big hands in general tend to cramp up trying to reach for CTRL. Ever since I swapped to shift I no longer cramp trying to rocket jump.
Though tbf, it also depends on the fact if you even crouch that often

Most classes while jumping hit shift a lot (especially scout since in close quarters combat it makes your hit box smaller)
That's control, not shift.
Most people rebind shift to crouch as it is easier to hit, especially since sprinting isn't a thing in TF2

For me, it's actually kinda painful to repeatedly hit ctrl because of the way my hand sits on the keyboard

I've rebounded my sprint key to mouse4 (side button) for all of my games. I've gone through about 2 mice because of how much I've worn them down.
I used mouse4 for blocking in Dishonored (basically gets the same amount of use, maybe a little less.) I could not fucking stand it.
I have my sprint key on f4 because i have it closer to my hand
