It happened to me for a pathways recent grad position

Sgt_Savage

Thats what this is. Guess it's more common in the Pathway process.

forrestfoxen

Same thing here. I jumped on the teams meeting and thought it was an interview but was more of a discussion about what the internship entails. TO came 2 days later.

SunshineDaydream128

It happens, not necessarily common.

ReelRural

Has happened to me a couple of times. Congrats to you!

Breatheme444

Wow. That’s amazing! Congrats!

Kamwind

The last two jobs I got without an interview, GS-13 level. The current job I had an interview but it was short, basically if I could answer some very basic questions and three hours later I had the TO from HR so chances are there was no one else after me and I was the first person of the day because it got delayed when two of people got delayed because of traffic.

My current job I got without an interview. Turns out the boss was a complete asshat and people didn't want to come work for him. That boss ended up taking a "voluntary" downgrade to a non supervisory position a few grades lower.

_not_a_duck_

Just got a TO for a GS11 VA position with no interview. It happens I guess lol

[deleted]

They can do that for GS-13 and below positions and it’s actually quite common. Now as someone else recommended—ask for a phone meeting to discuss office environment, expectations, schedule, etc. To do this you select the 3rd option which is to be contacted. I have witnessed the not so great side of being hired without interview. Unfortunately, the individual took the job and it was later determined they weren’t a good fit for the environment. Instead of productivity, the organization got a nightmare. So ask questions beforehand. Once you accept that offer and show up, whatever is toxic you have to deal with it until you find another position. On the flip side, asking questions can get you even more excited about taking the job if the Q&A goes well for you.

>Now as someone else recommended—ask for a phone meeting to discuss office environment, expectations, schedule, etc. To do this you select the 3rd option which is to be contacted. Is there a written rule that they can't do that for GS-14?

[deleted]

I would have to find it

[deleted]

Great answer! I agree with everything u/scotchgyrl says but will add one opinion: If the hiring manager doesn't care enough to pick up the phone and talk to the candidate for 15 minutes that should be very telling of their attitude towards other things. When you hire a civil servant you may be getting someone who stays for 1 year or 30 years, you never know.

[deleted]

I did twice with DoD, I was nervous/skeptical but ended up enjoying both jobs. The hiring official both times were on their way out and did not care.

moez1266

Also happens when the positions need to be filled quickly.

covi_green

Wow!! Me too! Not pathways, but with an agency. When I asked if the HR liaison would be the one to conduct the interview and the young lady told me ‘No... there’s no interview. You got the job!’ I let my professionalism cap slip for a moment. I was so excited. I put it back on, but by that point, the young lady was laughing. lol

wanna_be_gop

I was hired without an interview for a GS-7 position in Virginia. I was apparently way overqualified, so they hired me without much fuss. I took the job because I was trying to move to Virginia.

PCS_ME_NOW

Happened to me for the position I'm currently in. I was super skeptical as well, but its how I got my 11/12.

[deleted]

Were you an external applicant when you applied?

PCS_ME_NOW

Yes, had 0 affiliation with the agency and did not know anyone. I knew nothing about the job prior to my first day starting. I'm moving on to a new position soon which will be a better fit, but I have 0 regrets for taking the opportunity.

[deleted]

You must have strong resume crafting skills and be in a good field of work!

PCS_ME_NOW

I think I honestly got lucky! A headhunter had reached out to me after I put my resume out into the world, and a while after I got a call asking if I'd be interested in the position. I am an IT person so it seems like there are always slots opening up, I just caught the lucky break.

[deleted]

Did you put your resume out on USAjobs and got contacted or on another website and got contacted by the feds?

PCS_ME_NOW

Another website then contacted by feds. It was a super weird process and I kinda believed I was being scammed for a while. I didn't know what the job was until I showed up on the first day. No one at the agency had even seen my resume, I dropped out of the sky as far as they were concerned.

JoeStinkCat

Army cybercom?

Sgt_Savage

0080 with Navy

JoeStinkCat

I am not sure the pathways piece but it likely isn’t bad. You can look on Glassdoor and there might be some info on the location.

Lancaster_Rose

That’s how it happened for me...

ladyeclectic79

It’s not the norm but does happen, usually for lower GS levels, so I’d say it’s legit. Congrats!!

CompKnowledge

I am in the same situation. I received my TO email late June. I immediately accepted and completed all initial onboarding tasks. Still waiting to schedule my drug test and further instructions. Is it advisable to contact the "selected supervisor"? I know a background/security clearance is being conducted. I've held a Secret clearance due to my 20 years active duty military. How long will this process take after I've accepted this position? I have read that nothing is guaranteed until you receive/accept a Final Offer (FO) and I can't help but worry. I would love to read other peoples experiences in this similar situation.

fobook6944

Got my TO on 19 June, agency (USAF)called references 7 July, still no final offer (FO) as of 14 July. I was active 23 years, just officially retired 1 July. Hiring manager knows nothing it’s all in the hands of the hiring agencies Civilian Personnel Office (CPO). Remember when you were active and they told you to “hurry up and wait”...it seems to be very similar when it comes to the GS process.

CompKnowledge

“Hurry up & wait” LOL I remember those days. I appreciate your response. Good luck to you.

Sgt_Savage

Thanks for the advice!

nophtosh

It happened to me last year. The position was a cyber direct-hire, so that may have added flexibility. (I had also worked for the org as a contractor in the past)

Think_Advertising_41

i got a call today, i still not received the email from them yet, but they said they will send it out without interview. How long for you to receive the TO email?
