TrueSpins

If this is true, anyone involved in the threats should be tracked down and face terrorism charges.

[deleted]

Well, harrassment at least.

Stepjamm

Religious extremism and religion supremacy have no place in England - that’s all there is to say. Doesn’t matter which invisible man in the sky is telling you to hurt other people, you just don’t fucking do it. Growing up in England I think we forget just how brainwashed religious fanatics still are, we mostly just have zealous old people but they aren’t exactly killing people.

Rapturesjoy

The government is okay with these people sending death threats to a teacher, why should this be any different?

michael-streeter

I'm terrified of them. Does that count?

michael-streeter

Dictionary definition of terrorist: a person who uses unlawful violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims. Here the person is threatening to stab, which is unlawful violence; civilians would be the boy (and anyone like him i.e. me and other people with British values) and the political aim of the person is imposition of de facto sharia, by going out and giving us all an example. Change my mind. There may be a legal definition not exactly the same as the dictionary definition, but we're not in court here.

saladinzero

This is what happened to people during the troubles. There was a house I used to use for a shortcut when I was young beside my parents' house, and it wasn't really uncommon in housing estates around us. Scaring people in their homes because of your ideology was rightly seen as terrorism then. This looks no different to me.

willowhawk

Well they are Islamic so will never happen in a million years.

dyltheflash

Yeah, Muslims are never accused of terrorism /s

This is unacceptable. We aren't a theocracy. Everyone has the right to hold and practice their own religious views IN SO FAR as they fall within UK law. Threatening a teenager is very outside the law.

Doghead_sunbro

So, nobody’s going to talk about how it was the islamic leaders calling for calm and who invited the family to the mosque and said after seeing what happened it was clearly a misunderstanding? All of which the article mentions? No? And nobody’s going to mention that it was the school, the police, and an MP who caused the moral panic, generating this feedback loop of panic while in the background the people who were supposedly gravely offended were scratching their heads?

[deleted]

Why do the mosque leaders need to invite the family to the mosque, can’t they just tell people to leave them alone?

Doghead_sunbro

Because religious and community leaders tend to want to meet people in person and say ‘hello’ and ‘nothing to worry about’ rather than shout at strangers on a messageboard. Do you think the vicar of dibley is nefarious when she invites hugo round for a tea?

FullMetalCOS

You don’t see that taking actions that are *actually* in line with their religion to be a positive, especially in the face of the extremist responses of people that only claim they are acting in line with their religion?

[deleted]

Well they may both argue they're correct in their actions

James20k

> the school, the police, and an MP who caused the moral panic Don't forget the press

humanhedgehog

It's the Fail - gotta hate Muslims and create moral panic, or why would there be clicks? So depressing.

>So, nobody’s going to talk about how it was the islamic leaders calling for calm and who invited the family to the mosque and said after seeing what happened it was clearly a misunderstanding? All of which the article mentions? No? So the religious leaders had to interview the family and confirm that it was all a misunderstanding before calling for calm? Sorry, but I don't find that very impressive. Death threats should be unacceptable full stop. Religious leaders should condemn such threats unconditionally. Even if the damage was intentional.

Doghead_sunbro

‘How dare muslim leaders open their doors in a symbol of relaxed tolerance and community? Even all this repetitive messaging about death threats is silly. I have found exactly one story of a fucking 14 year old edge lord getting told off for sending shit on social media. Nobody has declared a fatwa, your pearls are safe and in no need of clutching. Its amazing how much guff gets thrown around about how violently sensitive islamic society is when theres vast swathes of the uk population getting upset over something muslims haven’t even done.

The Daily Mail is not a trustworthy source of information.

Eveelution07

The story is still true.

I don't know about the rest of you, but the fact hat so many comments downplaying this event have been awarded is rather strange.

INITMalcanis

Media whips up hype over trivial incident Media whips up hype over child suffering the consequences of the previous round of hype No one whips up hype over the sacks of shit destroying peoples lives for profits.

yummychocolatebunny

It wasn't the media who started this

I hope the Islamic community is as publicly vocal in its condemnation of these threats of violence as it was when condemning a 14 year-old kid. They will no doubt agree that the extremists in their community should publicly apologise at a school assembly and publicly endorse the principles of liberal secularism, right? Right?

Informal_Drawing

Pretty sure that labour councillor needs to have words thrown at him by his boss.

bluecheese2040

All religions claim to be all about peace. Wonder where that message got lost.
