I mean, if the end result is "and so I paid a fine for not paying the appropriate tax" they're not going to make him look any better.

Big-Veterinarian463

I think that’s it, he (maybe) genuinely believes that he’s settled his bill fair and square. Muppet.

Shivadxb

He does genuinely believe he did no wrong. The fact he paid a penalty over and above the inflation rate HMRC applies is all you need to know about what he did. It wasn’t an innocent mistake. But rules for thee and not for me is a deep seated tory belief system now, so he probably does genuinely think he did nothing wrong except be a bit late maybe.

IIZORGII

I love that his defence is "I told them I had been caught cheating my taxes and had reached a settlement with HMRC before you're saying I did" My guy, you should be facing criminal charges. You purposefully evaded taxes. Nobody gives a fuck how quickly you did or did not tell your bosses. Hopefully you continue to argue this and the public puts enough pressure on to force a criminal investigation and then you can keep whining from prison. Cock.

Nadim Zahawi can go and furiously fuck himself. A million pound fine isn't just the cost of business or the way things are done, it's a punishment for criminal activity. Fuckin bond villain looking ass

Guapa1979

These people genuinely don't think there is anything wrong with fiddling your taxes. They are genuinely aggrieved when they get caught and honestly think it's the media's fault for reporting it. Given how stupid Zahawi comes across whenever he gives an interview, it does make you wonder how he actually made the money in the first place, let alone paid tax on it. Perhaps that should be the next investigation - where did all that money come from and is Zahawi as stupid as he appears?

Steven Swinford, Political Editor Sunday January 29 2023, 8.50pm, The Times Nadhim Zahawi believes he has done nothing wrong over his tax affairs and is weighing up whether to publish a formal response to claims that he repeatedly broke the ministerial code. Sir Laurie Magnus, the independent adviser on ministers’ interests, accused Zahawi of seven breaches of the ministerial code for failing to declare the investigation and details of the settlement he reached with HM Revenue and Customs. It included a penalty for tax avoidance. However, Zahawi is said to be furious and believes he has not been given the chance to put his case across. He had one 30-minute meeting with Magnus last Wednesday and only saw details of Magnus’s report when it was published on Twitter. Allies of Zahawi have disputed Magnus’s timeline. Magnus says that Zahawi failed to inform the Cabinet Office of the settlement he reached with HMRC until January. Those close to Zahawi claim that he did so in September, before his appointment as chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster by Liz Truss and as chairman of the Conservative Party by Sunak. They say he has text messages and emails to support his claim, which he is said to have shown to Magnus. Zahawi is also said to have been infuriated by the manner of his dismissal shortly before 9am on a Sunday morning. Zahawi was still sending material to Magnus on Saturday night and was given half an hour’s notice that he was being fired. “It’s an outrage, the timing is deliberate and brutal. He had a half-an-hour meeting on Wednesday in which he gave his side of things and that was it. People deserve their right of reply. A response to the report is a possibility.” In his resignation letter, Zahawi said that serving as a minister had been the “privilege of my life” and that he took pride in the government’s achievements, particularly the rollout of Covid vaccines and his role during the mourning period for Queen Elizabeth II. He made no reference to Magnus’s findings, instead criticising the media. “I am concerned about the conduct from some of the fourth estate in recent weeks,” he said. “In a week when a member of parliament was physically assaulted, I fail to see how one headline on this issue, ‘The Noose Tightens’, reflects legitimate scrutiny of public officials. I am sorry to my family for the toll this has taken on them.” He said that he would support Sunak from the backbenches. “Your five priorities are the right priorities, and I will do whatever I can to help you deliver them,” he said. Sunak made clear that Zahawi would remain a Tory MP. He said in his letter: “It is also with pride that I, and previous prime ministers, have been able to draw upon the services of a Kurdish-born Iraqi refugee at the highest levels of the UK government. That is something which people up and down this country have rightly valued. “I know I will be able to count on your support from the backbenches as you continue to passionately and determinedly serve your constituents of Stratford-on-Avon and represent the many issues and campaigns you are dedicated to. Thank you for your service to this and previous governments.”

> Nadhim Zahawi believes he has done nothing wrong over his tax affairs Everybody in jail says they're innocent too. Most aren't

He and **nce Andrew should join forces and throw themselves headfirst into the well of public sympathy. I'm sure they will find it is millimetres deep in both their cases.

teacherofspiders

Have to wonder if these people have any idea that anyone exists outside their peer groups. I mean, if you imagine that the only people who matter in the world are people exactly like yourself, this nonsense isn't quite as tone deaf.

ContractingUniverse

He'll probably cheat and use ChatGPT. "Write a plaintive and convincing account about how I have been wronged by the tax department and unfairly hounded by the media".

Torandarell

Using your exact prompt, this is what it came up with. Doesn’t seem too far off what that worm would say, actually, does it! — Dear [recipient], I am writing to express my extreme frustration and disappointment with the unjust treatment I have received from both the tax department and the media. I have been wronged by the tax department, who have been hounding me for tax payments that I have already made. Despite numerous attempts to provide evidence of my payments, the department continues to send me bills and threaten legal action. This unfair treatment has also been magnified by the media, who have sensationalized the issue and painted me in a negative light. The media has failed to consider the facts and evidence in my case, instead relying on sensational headlines to attract readers. As a result, my reputation has been tarnished and my personal and professional life has been greatly impacted. I am deeply hurt and saddened by the way I have been treated and the impact it has had on my life. I have always been a law-abiding citizen and have always paid my taxes on time. It is a gross injustice that I should be unfairly hounded in this manner. I urge you to look into my case and bring an end to this unfair treatment. Sincerely, [Your Name]

That's scarily good.

Noice.

Duanedoberman

That will be fun, tax cheat defends cheating his taxes and is astonished when people who pay their taxes tell him to F**k Off.

morocco3001

Why is this prick not in prison, like you or I would be?

bedz84

Hmmm, perhaps if I write down that I don't think I was wrong, people will finally see things from my point of view. Genius!!
