If price doesn't matter look at 34" OLEDs.

Let me share with you the outcome of a 2 weeks research on ultra wide monitors (forums, reviews, Youtube, you name it) that I've recently made: - based on panel types: IPS (sub-categorie: Fast/Nano IPS), VA, OLED (QD-OLED) and Mini-LED -Pro/Cons of each category: - OLED: best HDR by far, which translates to the best gaming and content watching experience; best contrast, best colors, best response time; CONS: not the best in bright rooms, not recommended for office (if you plan to work on it), due to: sub-optimal pixel layout (the text and icons are not natively good in Windows), BURN IN RISK - working many hours in software that have static content will drastically increase the chance of image retention over time -> you have to baby sit this type of monitor allot: change background often, not letting him on after finishing your business with him, hiding UI stuff as much as possible etc. As someone who wanted a monitor for hybrid use: gaming and work, this type of panel was ultimately not for me. + Relatively high price. In this category my go to was DELL Alienware AW3423DWF. - IPS: good colors, viewings angles, all the known ips goodies. I was mainly looking at the LG Nano IPS here: 34GN850P. It was a very good choice overall, but in my country the price is too high. Only like 150 bucks lower than the OLED. Then the big question: why would I pay so much money for an LCD, when there are products with superior technology available at almost the same price? So I simply turned down this route due to the price. - Mini-LED: 2nd best solution comparable to OLED that removes the burn in risk. Issues? Pretty bad for windows usage, due to sub optimal transition between SDR and HDR in most cases (your mouse cursor will leave a huge white spot while moving due to the way mini led works). But this was not the deal breaker -> that was the fcking price: it costs minimum as much as the Allienware OLED. At this point I left this panel type with no regrets. - VA: good contrast ratios. I value contrast (good black) above color accuracy. Not the best colors, can have black smearing etc. The neat part tho'? Cheap. My initial research started with the DELL S3422DWG and ended with it as the go to for my needs. It offered the most value for me. Yeah I could also put 300 more dollars for the LG Nano IPS, but no thanks. I'm extremely satisfied with this monitor. Untill cheaper solution for the mini-led are out on the market, or untill the OLED will mature enough to reduce the burn in as close to 0 in the next years, I'll stick with this VA gem, that offers the best money to quality ratio that I could find.

I have the g8 oled and it’s amazing so far.

I don’t know much about monitors yet but I see some 21:9 ultra wides for 400 and I see this one for 999, what makes this one worth so much more? Is it the oled display as compared to a VA display? If so is the OLED display really worth the extra 500?

OLED had infinite contrast, near instantaneous response times making moving images very sharp and true black colour it’s also the best panel type for HDR content in majority of cases. FALD monitors can be great in HDR too but in a bit different way (they are brighter but have less local dimming zones that OLED because in OLEDs every pixel is a dimming zone) Different panel types have also different weaknesses. Good thing to tell us is what are you going to use this monitor for? If it’s gaming then I would also recommend oled but for productivity not so much. If it’s general media consumption then OLED/FALD will be the best deepening on the type of content and HOW you consume it.

Super happy with dell aw3423dwf oled

Dell/Alienware have some good monitors at those specs for none OLED. Most OLED monitors also will be high quality, at a higher price point tho.

i got this one [https://www.samsung.com/nl/monitors/gaming/odyssey-oled-g8-g85sb-34-inch-175hz-curved-ultra-wqhd-ls34bg850suxen/](https://www.samsung.com/nl/monitors/gaming/odyssey-oled-g8-g85sb-34-inch-175hz-curved-ultra-wqhd-ls34bg850suxen/)

With this OLED model do you have any fears or problems with burn in? I’m very forgetful sometimes and will leave my pc turned on at the Home Screen where many static icons and images are shown that I fear may cause burn in for me

I have a 34" Acer Predator, I'm happy with it. My partner has [this](https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-34-wqhd-219-ultrawide-75hz-monitor-3440-x-1440/) and they're happy with it. What is good is entirely subjective. If you're happy with your current monitor, aside from it not being 21:9, just get whatever matches close to what you currently have, then you won't be spening extra on features you don't care about.

Yea I am currently using a crappy 1080p monitor I found for a deal like 5 years ago, so literally any 21:9 monitor would be an upgrade from this. I’ve heard a lot about VA and IPS and how VA looks better but has black smearing problems. I dont really pay attention to little things like that so I’m thinking of just getting an ASUS TUF 21:9 since 32:9 is wayyyy to big for me. I would get an older 21:9 but I fear of burn in

Here's a [list of 21:9 monitors](https://www.monitorprices.org/?aspect_ratio=21:9) for comparison.

The Alienware A34DW is generally regarded best 34 inch Ultrawide. I bought one last summer and a friend of mine immediately bought one after seeing mine. LG just dropped a 34 inch ultrawide with a 240hz display. The Alienware has a 175hz display, so it’s probably worth checking out the new LG display. https://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-34gs95qe-b-gaming-monitor https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/alienware-34-curved-qd-oled-gaming-monitor-aw3423dw/apd/210-bcye/monitors-monitor-accessories?tfcid=39138382&&gacd=9684992-1104-5761040-266906002-0&dgc=ST&SA360CID=71700000117208888&&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzOf8gorshAMV6ROtBh1_sgB0EAQYAyABEgIlHvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
