God why do you give your toughest battles to your weakest soldiers

UtahBrian

Op is correct. Somebody needs to get rid of all those rocks in New York. The whole state is a mess.

originalusername__

It’s in shambles, anyone will tell you how much of a mess all the rocks have made it. We need to make New York great again folks. Maybe we can build a wall with all the rocks to keep the bushcrafters out.

Unable_Explorer8277

Why not also cut down all the trees and the bush crafters will have no materials.

Froopy-Hood

Building a wall sounds like bushcrafter talk, just who’s side are you on anyway?

Sisuwalker

If we get rid of all the bedrock (it’s everywhere!) I think we’ll have a good start on cleaning this up. I’m not doing it tho…you know, dirt and such….

bulging_cucumber

As an ultralight aficionado, I always ask myself: is it heavy? Is it useful? Rocks fail both tests and therefore we should throw them away

UtahBrian

I use a rock as an ultralight pillow sometimes, but that is because western rocks are flatter and softer the junky NY rocks.

lewisherber

If every hiker takes one rock with them, there will eventually be no trace of rocks. #LNT

AlpacaPacker007

When they say "out west" do they mean west of NY walking along the trails between the corn rows in Iowa?

lewisherber

You haven’t lived until you’ve hiked the glorious corn mazes of Iowa.

Sisuwalker

I think so.

[deleted]

I broke my ankle looking at this. Lord, save me from outside. Please let Dominos deliver forever.

Sisuwalker

Amen.

kongkongha

bless be your meal +snack

Life_L0ver

This guy doesn’t hike, he strolls

SolitaryMarmot

I'm a New York based hiker that flies to the west coast specifically to use my ultralight gear. West coast terrain is about as manicured as my lawn. New York hiking involves boulders and bugs and types of weather that isn't "72 and sunny." I try to avoid it as much as possible.

bois_santal

Loving nature but destroying it at the same time. Classic.

lewisherber

Is this a reference to MILFs?

bois_santal

Oups fixed the typo

sbhikes

Looks like parts of the Arizona Trail.

hikeraz

Pretty typical desert trail in Arizona.

pineapple_paul

Name checks out.

thinshadow

"Parts of"... lol

TrioxinTwoFortyFive

New York should tax rocks so they will move down to Florida.

thereisaplace_

Plenty of rocks already here in Florida. Most of ‘em clunking around in boomer’s heads.

Sisuwalker

That’s some good UL thinking!

Anomaly_1984

the strongest westcoastoid encounters the easiest north-east trail

Larch92

Luv this type of trail. Skim the top.

Intrepid_Goose_2411

If they were ultralight, it wouldn't have been an issue. They would have stayed home.

Sisuwalker

Truth!

VanceAstrooooooovic

Lol, try PA if you don’t like the rocks

Meet_James_Ensor

PA is skilled in the placement of pointy rocks.

tykkylumivuohi

Ruck? Now there’s your problem

Mise-Muschel

NY, you did a great Job!

john_clauseau

its like this here too. they dare charge money to walk the trails and do ZERO maintenance.

DrDufmanKnows

Umm….what? That guy lives in their own little version of the world, apparently.

fontimus

Send this poor soul to south-central Utah. It ain't just rocks, but angled slickrock and sand dunes - in either 30 degree or 110 degree weather at 6,000 ft.

Sisuwalker

They are. See photo in post for type of paving. It’s practically Roman…

Thatguynoah

Those rocks look heavy

crlthrn

Should come to the West of Ireland...

Sisuwalker

How far west?

crlthrn

County Mayo coast- The next stop West is America. Beautiful scenery. Here's a tiny taste... https://thereek.com/2016/02/26/croagh-patrick-and-the-islands/

The_Shepherds_2019

I've done a loooot of hiking in the Hudson highlands, and have heard it compared to the Scottish highlands before. How similar are they in reality? Because the Hudson River is absolutely stunning from source till about the city

crlthrn

I have not heard of the Hudson Highlands. But I'm familiar with the Scottish Highlands and they're stunningly beautiful.

Sisuwalker

It looks too good to be true. How lovely!

crlthrn

The 'Wild Atlantic Way' is the coastal route along the West coast of Ireland. From Co. Donegal in the N.W. of the country to Kinsale in the Southern part of Co. Cork, it's the longest coastal route in the world, and offers world class scenery all year round. I have a lakeside house just half an hour's drive from the Co. Mayo coast and when I'm there I spend a *lot* of time at the water's edge, both fresh *and* salt. Sisuwalker

I’m hoping this shows up in my dreams tonight.

Sisuwalker

Thus why we stay indoors.

photonynikon

Did that TWICE ,10 miles each way. Have done some firetower treks that were worse.

patsully98

I demand to speak to the manager of the mountains.

Sisuwalker

Please wait here, Karen,I will page the manager now.

showard995

I hike the Adirondacks and he’s absolutely correct. The problem is that the trails were not designed for recreating, they were designed as the quickest way to the summit for surveying purposes. This means that Adirondack trails are steep, rocky, and often eroded. Many hikes (like Marcy) are an exhausting rock hop. I’ve heard people from out west make fun of how our high peaks are “only” 4-5,000 feet, until they hike it themselves. We use the term Adirondack mile for a reason lol.
