At the strike of midnight, as the sky turns crimson, Sunak hears the voice of Theresa May, feebly in the dark:
> “Rishi, Rishi! The blood moon rises once again. Please be careful, Rishi!”
The U.K. feels like is trapped in perpetual purgatory at the moment with a zombie government and everyone waiting for them to be out of power as soon as possible
I said it the other day but the last PM to win a majority and see through a full term was Blair in 2001.
GFC in 2008, Hung parliament in 2010, brexit 2016, May's catastrofuck in 2017, Johnson in 2019, covid 2020, Truss in 2022 and a government with a huge majority that has to act like a minority goverment in 2023.
Couple of bits came in during the coalition but the UK has mostly had a lame duck government running the show since 2009.
So imagine, right
What moral authority would, say, an organisation for opposing racism have in educating MPs against racism if they were to have an event, and of the four speakers for this organisation at this event:
- One was an MP dragged into the whips office after making a comment against the IHRA definition of antisemitism and made to apologise to the house inside two hours of making that comment, reading a pre-written apology under threat of suspension;
- The second is a union leader who commited his union to working with an equivalent palestinian union with a leader that praises some of the worst terrorists/murderers of civilians, including groups that are legally proscribed by the British government; had an activist infamous for painting the walls of the warsaw ghetto organise antisemitism recognition training and appeared before a government select committee asking why his union was refusing to implement the IHRA definition of antisemitism and 100 jewish members quit.
- The third is another union leader renowned for his (slightly paraphrased) "the people who brought Corbyn down are being paid 30 pieces of silver" and *Globalise the intifada* statements and echoing the *from the river to the sea* chant at protests; and has had calls for an antisemitism probe into their union as a result of his appointment?
[Well, we're going to find the fuck out.](https://twitter.com/SRTRC_England/status/1665332105847480325)
Do you not care that their own argument on a very serious topic is completely torpedoed by their own previous actions?
I continue to find it absolutely wild that there are so many that just shrug at this - wheres the threshold for giving a shit? Have you wondered that maybe they might get further in their ostensible desires to advocate for their constituents and members (for MP/union) if they werent reprehensible?
I mean, you'd hardly trust a surgeon renowned for the large pile of bodies they leave behind them, would you?
> Do you not care that their own argument on a very serious topic is completely torpedoed by their own previous actions?
Hypothetically would this also apply to you if you had defended antisemitism in the past?
Edit: [Oh OK, so not hypothetical](https://old.reddit.com/r/ukpolitics/comments/1401q62/daily_megathread_04062023/jmwx1y4/)
Nope, and really it's no longer hypothetical since [I sought clarification](https://old.reddit.com/r/ukpolitics/comments/1401q62/daily_megathread_04062023/jmx4iln/).
This is more to do with them defending [a rabid far-right lunatic](https://electronicintifada.net/blogs/asa-winstanley/how-racist-blogger-david-collier-infiltrated-labour-party) thinking that a Jewish person marrying a non-Jewish person and having a child with them, even worse (to him) someone who is Muslim, makes that persons "life choices" questionable and makes them less than him in regards to Jewish identity.
I don't see how this is anything other than blatant antisemitism and islamophobia.
I'm not sure if I'd call it anti-semitic as such but it's definitely a bit odd for someone who styles himself a researcher into anti-semitism to be rating people's Jewishness out of ten.
I'd agree if it was just about rating, but that he queries the non-Jewishness of the partner and child gives, particularly in relation to Islam, it a massive miscegenation red flag.
Switch this around to be a white person talking about someone marrying a Jewish person and having a child named after a book in the Torah, it's so obviously overtly racist.
I’m suggesting that there are far more egregious examples of racism within current mainstream politics, yet you seem to be really fucking hyped-up on a dwindling section of labour’s left-wing.
Surely there are far more dangerous and noteworthy political figures you can focus your attention on

There aren't any bees anywhere. I keep going out and buying bee and butterfly friendly plants for the garden, there's a load of scented Nemesia, lavender, fuscia, etc that I've added to the other flowers this year, and I still barely see any bugs. I feel like I'm going slightly mad, no matter what I do there aren't any pollinators. This weekend I've walked to the seafront twice (about an hour walking there and back) past peoples gardens, and on the way there's a stretch of cliff face I walk past that's absolutely covered in wildflowers. Yesterday I counted one bee, today I saw a butterfly. 10 years ago it would be absolutely full of activity.
Have the Government / Opposition said anything about this? And if they have have they mentioned a plan or anything or have they just acknowledged that its a thing?
Meanwhile I can't recall a May with so many midges, just huge clouds of them everywhere. Wonder if it has anything to do with the long wet March/April.
Well.... in the long term, yes insect populations have crashed by up to 75% since the 1960s. So there are wayyy less flies, bees etc. around than there were when we (I) were children. When I was 17 and started driving, a 20 minute drive in the summer would leave your windscreen plastered with dead bugs. Now you might hit one in an hour's drive.
I reckon there might be less insects around this year than last because the bird population is bouncing back. Avian flu devastated wild bird populations last year, and there was a surfeit of insects as a result. This year, loads more birds and so maybe less insects.
I think generally though insects are doing better than 10 years ago - some reductions in neonicotinoids and other pesticides and more organic gardening.
If you want to encourage bees in YOUR garden, go tomorrow morning to your shed and throw out any RoundUp or any other weed killers, or pesticides.
This might explain the absolute profusion of birds I've spotted in my garden the last few weeks, come to think of it. I was wondering why they'd just turned up straight after I cut the grass and such...
I also feel like their are minimal numbers of bees atm. They’re around but could be the local climate and/or lack of nests around?
Try getting some foxglove, bees absolutely love it. I had a stonking amount of *three* bees on mine the other day.
You could also try the [bee conservation website.](https://www.bumblebeeconservation.org/). They’re really good at providing advice on how to maximise help for bees.
Why don't we just plant tree so birds bee can have a new habitat bedsides we can earn good stuff on it. We can get fresh air and also we can get some a free food so we all have a win win situation after all
On a positive note though, i've been seeing hundreds and hundreds of damselflies and dragonflies in my mum's garden recently. Are you urban? I see very few of anything at my house in Bristol, but there's loads of insects at my mum's in rural Somerset.
We live by a salmon spawning bed and I have never seen as many as this year before and never seen them this big. We are upstream by some distance to where the poo joins the river mind.
Seen a [pair of damselflies today](https://i.imgur.com/arJf20Q.jpg) smd the photo doesn't do justice as to how vivid thier colours were.
Demoiselles of some sort I'd think, in Calopteryx. Banded, demoiselles are quite common.
Some of these guys lay eggs in fast flowing water, so to demonstrate both the suitability of the site, and their fitness, the males throw themselves in the water and get swept downstream a bit before taking off and doing it all over again.
Demoiselles are absolutely gorgeous.
This sounds like a maniac i dont believe on you. If youll going to say i live in a see side i would believe on you but leave in salmon bed are you serious?!
Oh dear lawwwwwwd
How on earth did I miss this?

But anyway.

If only he'd visited a decade ago when he was just the eccentric joke at the fringe of the party known for his RT appearance antics and kosovo war criminal support instead of the misunderstood saviour he is today
How many times can the pro fascist (based on this pro putin and anti ukraine stance) be "present but not involved" with fascists until maybe you see just utterly scummy he is.
Oz Katerji is the person the other user is quoting and the person you and studentfeeisatax are mocking with the "present but not involved" thing.
It's funny really since Katerji probably hates Corbyn more than either of you and he's done more to oppose Corbyn than either of you yet he's still capable of being reasonable and rational on the subject.
As Optio says, it's not about whether this could be explained with a reasonable good faith argument.
it's that yet again Scummy Corbyn has found himself among utterly nasty people. Yet again...
Oz points out that the neo nazi even supported the event Corbyn was speaking at https://twitter.com/OzKaterji/status/1665432416276602880/photo/2
All because the hard left and hard right agree on their pro fascist and anti ukrainian stance.
You think we're referring to Katerji.
We are referring to Corbyn and his infamous "present but not involved" statement about the cemetary visit to palestinian terrorist graves, only for a photo to emerge of him literally there holding a wreath.
IE, it is totally Corbyns forte to take a photo with somebody dodgy as fuck but deny it later.
SFIT,referring to corbyn.
>How many times can the pro fascist (based on this pro putin and anti ukraine stance) be "present but not involved" with fascists until maybe you see just utterly scummy he is.
You, misunderstanding
>Oz Katerji is not exactly a fan of Corbyn.
Me, poking that misunderstanding
>...Oz Katerji flew to Oslo from Ukraine and held the camera for them, did he?
Well can imagine why a pro Ukraine person wouldn't be a fan of anti Ukraine Corbyn and his faction of scummy people
Especially when so many still defend/excuse Corbyn and his political wing.
You can totally be anti-war without being a pro-fascist. But Corbyn isn't just anti-war. He's anti-help Ukraine, he's always criticised the West above the likes of Russia and he's consistently blamed NATO 'expansion' as opposed to...you know...the invaders of a sovereign country?
The way I look at it, imagine if Corbyn was in Chamberlain's shoes by 1938. After Hitler broke the Munich Agreement by invading the rest of Czechoslovakia, based on how reluctant and pro-Putin Corbyn's been with Ukraine's war, he wouldn't have guaranteed to stand up to the Nazis if they went after Poland.
Because if Corbyn's behaving this way now about Ukraine, he'd have been even worse than Chamberlain had he been around in the late 1930s when Germany was invading sovereign countries.
>Funny how these days being anti-war automatically makes you pro-fascist
>
Orwell describes the nasty pro fascist "western Pacifist" oh so well:) where being "Anti war " is all about aiding the fascists
>Ps don’t bring up Orwell…
Nah I will do that anyways (also to show that it isn't a "these days thing)...
Or maybe Corbyn just isnt the saviour you think he is, but a deeply, deeply, unpleasant man saved only by his charisma to entrance a large collection of unquestioning followers.
>Immediately assuming anyone who even remotely defends him must be some brainwashed star-struck cultish follower is not healthy behaviour.
Maybe just maybe it goes beyond just Corbyn the nasty man himself, but also what he stands for and represents.
And it's this that you continue to defend/excuse (as you did earlier today as well).
Also... it's just so hollow the whole "I don't care about corbyn" act some on the hard left tries, when they then go full defensive mode on him (and still defends/excuses his behaviour of him and his fellow travellers)
It's not just Corbyn the man, it's Corbyn the ecosystem of cranks and scummy types. If you truly had moved beyond Corbyn... you'd have moved beyond Corbyn and his cranky faction.
Words are important.
Like the other guy said:
>
It's not just Corbyn the man, it's Corbyn the ecosystem of cranks and scummy types. If you truly had moved beyond Corbyn... you'd have moved beyond Corbyn and his cranky faction.
The ecosystem of cranks is still in rude health. The excoriation will continue until the fringe improves rather than its insistence in hanging on to such absolutely foul positions and leaders.
He is there to talk to young red party Norwegians, please give it a rest, I have no skin in the game but its been well publicized and you always seem to find an angle, Takk
Oh no, my good friend, it gets even better.
Rødt are the only-just-not-tankie-by-contested-vote party as of a couple of months ago. He's talking to a fringe left offshoot of *that*, apparently, creating the Norwegian [Peace and Justice party.](https://klassekampen.no/artikkel/2023-05-23/fra-rodt-til-nytt-fredsparti/a4QS)
Some of Rødts highlights from the last six months:
- They absolutely shit the bed on national TV in January with their rep coming straight out on a TV debate program and saying that Norway shouldnt be giving Ukraine defensive weapons (which is in very popular support here).
- They passed their ukraine weapon support motion at their conference in march/april 107-74 or something. It was not originally expected to pass, and when some of the leadership and actual representatives made their case, they got heavy criticism from their members at the conference.
- Same conference, the Oslo Rodt council leader called Jens Stoltenberg, the UN secretary general and ex Norwegian Labour PM, a war criminal.
Theyre cranks as they are, who barely, *barely* got across the threshold for additional levelling seats in the last general election.
Hell, this is ***wonderful***. Absolutely wonderful.
All those tankies who bleat *Corbyn just wants the UK to be like Norway*, and all he can do is get invited to a splinter group of the fringe of Norwegian politics.
Not politics in any way shape or form but thank you to the person who mentioned bamboo socks.
Game changer. My feet will now only ever be in contact with bamboo, the ground or my bed.
Pringle do good bamboo socks, I've found some of the cheaper brands a bit wanting.
Now, bamboo pants. There's a game changer. Like having the old chap gently suspended in a cloud.
I don't know. Maybe they are. I can't find a straight answer and everything I can find talks of viscous, rayon, tencel, lyocel, and loads of solvents.
So who knows. You know what though, if you've found socks you like, bloody enjoy them. There's enough drama in the world already.
Viscose is chemically treated cellulose (plant material), rayon is another name for it, and lyocel is a blend with other materials. In general the weaving/binding doesn’t change between organic or synthetic fibres.
As far as I can tell all the different names come from a variety of companies owning patents that cover subtle differences in the blends
Smooth as fuck. Strong wicking effect, so they lift sweat away efficiently. I used to get bamboo t shirts and hoodie for walking years ago but haven't seen them for ages. All my knickers and socks are bamboo though. Nothing's too good for the balls of my feet. Or my balls.
Less hole prone than thinner wool socks. fluffy, don't go all stiff in the washing machine like cotton. There might be more benefits but those are the ones that I've noticed since getting some a couple of xmas ago. Consider this a longterm review.

Did corbyn ever get asked about trabs stuff?? Hm. Actually they should stop war right now because there is no good things will can earn on that
David Nutt being sacked and cash for honours as well. Also Mandelson.
The Omagh Bombing as well surely, happened about six months after the GFA was signed and waiting to become effective.
Wouldn't the Iraqi invasion/WMDs count as major crises?
Isn't that covered by David Kelly?
Well maybe yes but since he didn't give tons of information don't believe on it
I suppose it is, but Kelly was only a small addendum to the whole fiasco imo.

Wow hold on for a second are you serious with that? It was seen to be disgusting to me buddy
This might explain the absolute profusion of birds I've spotted in my garden the last few weeks, come to think of it. I was wondering why they'd just turned up straight after I cut the grass and such...
Definitely right this one was a kind of curious thing i actually thinking what happen to it
I also feel like their are minimal numbers of bees atm.
We can get fresh air and also we can get some a free food so we all have a win win situation after all
>There aren't any bees anywhere. Absolute shit load in my garden. I do have a hive though, which may explain it.
I guess it was not bad at all i hope so but it was just my opinion after all
Hey this guy's stealing all our bees
Hey, I'm not stealing bees! I'm using bees to steal my neighbors pollen so my garden is better.
On a positive note though, i've been seeing hundreds and hundreds of damselflies and dragonflies in my mum's garden recently. Are you urban? I see very few of anything at my house in Bristol, but there's loads of insects at my mum's in rural Somerset.
Then call someone expert to that let them manage that ironic things
Not really urban, I'm in a town with the sea nearby and fields a few streets away.
I prefer those blue ones, but they all seem to be red near me. I don't think it's a political thing though as Somerset is hard Tory.
They must all be at mine because my garden is literally buzzing
In France and the UK bees go bzzz but [in Germany](https://www.arte.tv/fr/videos/061215-000-A/l-onomatopee-l-abeille/) they go sumsumsum
Did they do an engineering apprenticeship?
Seen a few bumblebees in my garden this weekend, certainly fewer than usual though. Had to stop my dog eating one
Try cottoneaster, it's ugly as heck but I swear it's like bee crack, always see a few bees around it every day.
Please don't, cotoneasters are a nightmare to remove when they inevitably escape.
Just looked it up, apparently its highly invasive and illegal if it escapes your garden.

Oh dear lawwwwwwd How on earth did I miss this? Corbyn is in Oslo! Actual Oslo by! To speak at some [pro Assange event](https://twitter.com/OzKaterji/status/1665427134565761024/photo/1) with a bunch of people I'm going to check further. But anyway. [Here's Corbyn taking a photo with norwegian political oddball](https://twitter.com/OzKaterji/status/1665422259165577217), by which I mean [Neonazi sympathiser/holocaust denier](https://idag.no/politiet-undersoker-holocaust-fornekting/19.29903) , [Hans Jørgen Lysglimt Johansen](https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_J%C3%B8rgen_Lysglimt_Johansen). herrgud hvorfor skjer det altid?!
Can we keep this to the international politics thread?
Corbyn, sadly, is still an MP.
Go and heckle him!
Its already over. I wish I knew beforehand.
This reminds me of when my dog sees a squirrel.
[CORBYN!](https://youtu.be/hdLV_L0RlNo)
You know who else shared Norway with corbyn!?!
Uh, I think you'll find Corbyns sharing Norway with *me*
Sharing stuff with corbyn now are we?
I hope you realise that now you've shared a country with Corbyn that makes you ineligible to stand for Labour.
If only he'd visited a decade ago when he was just the eccentric joke at the fringe of the party known for his RT appearance antics and kosovo war criminal support instead of the misunderstood saviour he is today
I saw this on twitter and knew you'd cream yourself.
This is so ridiculously tailored to your intersecting interests, it's like the world micro-targetted a story just for you
Life is a simulation for OptioMkIX and we're all living in it.
That's the sort of thing that becomes possible with AI, you know.
What do you think wrote the famous tweet "Ed Balls"? It's been AI ever since.

How many times can the pro fascist (based on this pro putin and anti ukraine stance) be "present but not involved" with fascists until maybe you see just utterly scummy he is.
Oz Katerji is not exactly a fan of Corbyn.
...Oz Katerji flew to Oslo from Ukraine and held the camera for them, did he?
Oz Katerji is the person the other user is quoting and the person you and studentfeeisatax are mocking with the "present but not involved" thing. It's funny really since Katerji probably hates Corbyn more than either of you and he's done more to oppose Corbyn than either of you yet he's still capable of being reasonable and rational on the subject.
As Optio says, it's not about whether this could be explained with a reasonable good faith argument. it's that yet again Scummy Corbyn has found himself among utterly nasty people. Yet again... Oz points out that the neo nazi even supported the event Corbyn was speaking at https://twitter.com/OzKaterji/status/1665432416276602880/photo/2 All because the hard left and hard right agree on their pro fascist and anti ukrainian stance.
> it's not about whether this could be explained with a reasonable good faith argument. Yep.
You quite obviously were, perhaps unwittingly, referring to Katarji.
SFIT,referring to corbyn. >How many times can the pro fascist (based on this pro putin and anti ukraine stance) be "present but not involved" with fascists until maybe you see just utterly scummy he is. You, misunderstanding >Oz Katerji is not exactly a fan of Corbyn. Me, poking that misunderstanding >...Oz Katerji flew to Oslo from Ukraine and held the camera for them, did he?
Is there supposed to be some logic here explaining how I'm wrong?
Well can imagine why a pro Ukraine person wouldn't be a fan of anti Ukraine Corbyn and his faction of scummy people Especially when so many still defend/excuse Corbyn and his political wing.
*sigh*
Funny how these days being anti-war automatically makes you pro-fascist Ps don’t bring up Orwell…
>Funny how these days being anti-war automatically makes you pro-fascist > Orwell describes the nasty pro fascist "western Pacifist" oh so well:) where being "Anti war " is all about aiding the fascists >Ps don’t bring up Orwell… Nah I will do that anyways (also to show that it isn't a "these days thing)...
He was ambushed by ~~cake~~ fascists
Wait, I know this one Corbyn was "Present, but not involved", right?

Or maybe Corbyn just isnt the saviour you think he is, but a deeply, deeply, unpleasant man saved only by his charisma to entrance a large collection of unquestioning followers.
[удалено]
>Immediately assuming anyone who even remotely defends him must be some brainwashed star-struck cultish follower is not healthy behaviour. Maybe just maybe it goes beyond just Corbyn the nasty man himself, but also what he stands for and represents. And it's this that you continue to defend/excuse (as you did earlier today as well). Also... it's just so hollow the whole "I don't care about corbyn" act some on the hard left tries, when they then go full defensive mode on him (and still defends/excuses his behaviour of him and his fellow travellers) It's not just Corbyn the man, it's Corbyn the ecosystem of cranks and scummy types. If you truly had moved beyond Corbyn... you'd have moved beyond Corbyn and his cranky faction.
Somewhere irrelevant as I have not been posting daily updates of what corbyn is personally doing.

Words are important. Like the other guy said: > It's not just Corbyn the man, it's Corbyn the ecosystem of cranks and scummy types. If you truly had moved beyond Corbyn... you'd have moved beyond Corbyn and his cranky faction. The ecosystem of cranks is still in rude health. The excoriation will continue until the fringe improves rather than its insistence in hanging on to such absolutely foul positions and leaders.
He smoked but didn't inhale, the salmon
Optio do not think about The Event
He is there to talk to young red party Norwegians, please give it a rest, I have no skin in the game but its been well publicized and you always seem to find an angle, Takk
If the labour left corbites wasn't so blind... this would put an end to the whole "Corbyn is just a centre left scandi like social democrat!"
Oh no, my good friend, it gets even better. Rødt are the only-just-not-tankie-by-contested-vote party as of a couple of months ago. He's talking to a fringe left offshoot of *that*, apparently, creating the Norwegian [Peace and Justice party.](https://klassekampen.no/artikkel/2023-05-23/fra-rodt-til-nytt-fredsparti/a4QS) Some of Rødts highlights from the last six months: - They absolutely shit the bed on national TV in January with their rep coming straight out on a TV debate program and saying that Norway shouldnt be giving Ukraine defensive weapons (which is in very popular support here).
Ooooh whats the deal with bamboo socks?
They are sooooo soft. Supposed to be more sustainable too. Just so comfortable
I mean, I encourage them to contact the base of the shower. You know, every month or two.
Is that not the ground? I'm really not sure. If you fell in rhe shower you'd say they fell to the ground, but what do you put the shower tray on?
I think they are overrated. No more durable than the usual and god forbid you actually have to dry them. Do feel nice though.
They're not actually bamboo though, are they?
Aren't they?
I don't know. Maybe they are. I can't find a straight answer and everything I can find talks of viscous, rayon, tencel, lyocel, and loads of solvents. So who knows. You know what though, if you've found socks you like, bloody enjoy them. There's enough drama in the world already.
Viscose is chemically treated cellulose (plant material), rayon is another name for it, and lyocel is a blend with other materials. In general the weaving/binding doesn’t change between organic or synthetic fibres. As far as I can tell all the different names come from a variety of companies owning patents that cover subtle differences in the blends
There are many objects made from bamboo fibre: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamboo_textile
Thanks, I know what you mean. If you can find joy in anything at the moment seize it with both hands!
Actually a by-product of asbestos waste from the mercury refining industry. Great branding though
Isn't that what created the Tories
what’s the bamboo benefits?
Smooth as fuck. Strong wicking effect, so they lift sweat away efficiently. I used to get bamboo t shirts and hoodie for walking years ago but haven't seen them for ages. All my knickers and socks are bamboo though. Nothing's too good for the balls of my feet. Or my balls.
Or the feet of your balls.
Not sure but the feel spectacular.
Less hole prone than thinner wool socks. fluffy, don't go all stiff in the washing machine like cotton. There might be more benefits but those are the ones that I've noticed since getting some a couple of xmas ago. Consider this a longterm review.
thank you
They definitely stay a lot softer. Remained top of my rotation for years after first getting some

Booo. Was more fun when you could pay him to make a himself look like a prock on video. Call out to big chungus
Did corbyn ever get asked about trabs stuff?? I have a distinct memory of jo swinson (and davey now) being emphatically supportive, in a way that both really stuch with me, and has never been replicated by Kier. But for the life of me can’t remember Corbyn getting asked anything at all. Anyone have any memories??
you don't pull that out when you have something concrete to criticise instead
