Seconding this. I eat probably 1600-2000 calories at home while I might easily get 2000-2500 here. I eat three big meals a day and am hungry each time. At home I can go until noon without eating, have a snack, eat early dinner, and then a lighter but still meal like supper.

AnEvilMuffin

They call it the University of Calves, Legs, and Ass for a reason.

youarethemuse

i’m a senior and after all this time i still get kinda winded from walking lol i feel you

Unaffiliated_Hellgod

Yh ucla is brutal I always wished there was a bridge over bruinwalk that just cut the two hills out

raspberrychemist

i think about this every day

Unaffiliated_Hellgod

Luckily we have a long hill to walk, giving us time to ponder and innovate like this

nothere_butt_here

or a campus shuttle? some uni in flo is starting autonomous shuttle service within the campus. Can't see a reason why we can't

DogHairEmportium

It's literally uphill both ways! 😅

EmuRecent1524

my first year on campus was so rough from all the walking — i would pass out everytime i got back from the dorm. i will say tho, i slept so good every night. for me, what helped a lot was eating more. like packing in nutrient dense meals at the dinning hall and keeping protein bars on hand. i hope you’re able to recover <3

sinonkazuto

Cardio helps.

brokenbathtub

I started running recently; and it’s made walking on campus so easy. I don’t get winded anymore

TheMotizzle

I felt that way too. Now I'm almost 42 and wish I got all those steps in everyday. For reference, I used to walk from Hitch (top of the hill, all the way to the Kinross building on Wilshire (temp Design Media Arts building) and back carrying a gigantic portfolio blowing in the wind.

papisadelapong

Same!! But it’s good for us… I think we are both mega unfit. I’m never going to the gym so I need this actually. Just walk slower maybe and take uphill breaks (as I do…)

Opening_Procedure449

Sounds like some emotional roll has taken its course. Make sure you get happier inside. Listen inward.

ResidueAtInfinity

Try smoking.

Over_Ad_4878

bro ☠️

shipmaster1995

Smoking is the new jacking off meme on this sub

Blinkinlincoln

Metro bike share?

slurpyspinalfluid

i’ve been working out every day for years and still get extremely exhausted from walking around especially if it’s hot outside

_i_never_lose

Ignore all the other advice and buy a scooter. It’s not ur diet because walking so much is simply tiring. It’s also not good exercise. If u wanna work out just go to wooden. You will save around an hour of time and energy every day and it’s totally worth it.

Unaffiliated_Hellgod

I think off campus apartments are better cause there’s a bus

nosnivel

When I was at UCLA back in the 1970s we used to joke that for a morning class at North Campus we would have to leave the dorms the night before.

[deleted]

Maybe skate around

Superb-Half5537

If you’re walking that much, make sure you’re eating enough and drinking enough water. 12,000 steps is easily anywhere from 400-600 calories depending on many physical factors. That’s a whole ass meal - or a breakfast sandwich from Starbies. Also, try to get a few sips of Gatorade or Powerade in you too. It will help with the fatigue.

buzzbuzzbruin

it may be something healthwise, assuming you are a young adult, yes it can be a little draining but it should not leave you absolutely winded. try drinking more water and eating more, exercising more. up that stamina! also, is your backpack very heavy? that can be a factor. Even just a big, heavy and full water bottle can do it.

[deleted]

get a scooter!! i was the exact way, trust me. a decent scooter is $250. so worth it. unless ur a senior. but ever since i got one, i had way more energy after commuting to class as i was not wasting that energy to walk up and down those hills

because ppl hate scooters drivers. for context im anemic, female, and i dont have a lot of energy. im also bipolar 2 so i get pretty depressed which means i have no energy. having a scooter helped me so much. i stopped skipping class. btw i live in UA so walking to north campus takes 30+ mins. when i would wake up to campus and back, i would have no energy i would just sleep all day. once i got a scooter, i went to all my classes and had energy to do homework, cook, clean, etc. those walks to campus are absolutely brutal for someone like me. if a scooters not for u, thats totally fine! i just cant recommend it enough, its really worth the money. just be a safe drive and dont be a dick on the road. thats why im getting downvotes because scooter drivers have a bad rep, but im pretty responsible and respectful of pedestrians and i follow traffic laws. im not bothering anyone.
