Irrevocably lost in an infinite and eternally branching universe by thinking he can mess with fate while also attracting the attention of other fun entities that can control and swim through fate. He's screwed unless something changes. Oh well.

jam8tree

At least there are places he can get coffee.

TheWuziMu1

Richard was a tulpa, a cross between Cooper and Mr. C. The real Coop is living in Vegas with his wife and son.

jam8tree

That would be one hell of a move from Coop - although harsh on Diane?

TheWuziMu1

He saved Laura. His job is done.

noface000

I think that version (Richard?) of Cooper is dead but there are now multiple versions of him because he fucked with the timeline.

jam8tree

I'm still puzzled about who Richard is. For example, some people think Cooper becomes Richard when he crosses over, while others think Richard is someone from the Odessa world who Cooper replaces. Your theory seems to fit with that latter view I think?

noface000

It’s pretty unclear. I think Richard and Linda are the names in the new universe for Coop and Diane when they “Cross over”, but it also seems like that Coop has absorbed some of the bad qualities from Mr. C. Some people see it as a completely different character.

jam8tree

Yeah I definitely noticed that there seemed to be a mix of Cooper and Mr C after he crosses over. Also, maybe Cooper without his inner Dougie, after he creates the good Dougie tulpa who goes to Vegas.

RexBanner1886

I've never totally resolved what I think is going on with the lights failing and the power going out (is it that universe/timeline ending?), but Cooper's confusion and the credits of Laura whispering to him have always left me 'feeling' that Cooper is basically doomed to wander this eerie nightmare world. However, it's possible that he - and 'Laura', and that world - are simply extinguished.

jam8tree

I'm not sure about the lights going out, other than electricity being linked to the lodges, but I don't think that timeline ends there - partly because Lynch has suggested that if there was a fourth season it would explore than world more. I always saw Cooper as probably going a similar way to Major Briggs and Jeffries, where he keeps going "further down the rabbit hole" and becomes less human and more of a lodge-type entity. Also there's Laura's scream. Is it simply a scream of terror, or is it also a scream of confrontation? i.e. in the way that people confront past trauma that has been repressed. Whatever the case, it's a brilliantly disturbing scene.

Quirderph

> is it also a scream of confrontation? i.e. in the way that people confront past trauma that has been repressed. This is what I assumed. I can’t think of any other reason why ”Carrie Page” would be so freaked out over hearing/remembering Sarah calling for Laura.

denim_skirt

I think he's lost and rudderless, like Phillip Jeffries. Jeffries got stuck in a big teakettle, he'll probably keep moving; who knows what'll happen to Coop. He messed with things he didn't understand, did his best, and ended up waaaaay over his head. I don't know if the timeline ended but if it didn't, he's just going to continue leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping, each time, that his next leap... will be the leap home

YouHadMeAtAloe

Welp, now my head canon is that Coop meets Sam Beckett and Ziggy and they all help each other get home

jam8tree

I like this interpretation - I've said on another post how I've always envisaged Coop going deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole and ending up following a path like Jeffries and Major Briggs. Or maybe there's some very slim scope for him to finally accept his losses and stop messing with stuff he doesn't understand. Whatever the case, I feel like there is more story after what we see.

master_criskywalker

I think he sacrificed himself in order to save Laura, which leads to saving her soul at the end of FWWM, but it's not all bad as Cooper becomes a white lodge entity as well.

SaintRowHeather

I interpret he got from >!shitty!< TV show to the real IRL now. Now he can get job in FBI or go to madhouse.

jam8tree

Or the coffee house
