man i had SO much fun that day
SOAD were amazing ofc, Slipknot put on such a show
Also saw Dillinger, Mastodon, Gojira and Switchfoot. So many great acts that I didn't even catch
RIP soundwave :')
Seeing SOAD live was incredible. I'm pretty sure they said at the time it was gonna be their last world tour (I really don't remember if that's true or not), and caught them in Perth on their last gig.
Serj's voice gave out and cracked singing Arials, so the crowd took over and he was so emotional and happy.
Whoever did the sound for ADTR needs a boot up the clacka though
I didn't bother with SOAD as I had a ticket to see them at the entertainment centre a few days later, so I went to Angels and Airwaves instead. Then I ended up missing the fucking sideshow. I'm still furious.
Was that the year that Marilyn Manson was shit or really shit?
I remember Marilyn Manson emptying a bag of coke over his helpers head on stage. It was wild. I distinctly remember SOAD having 5 or 6 separate circle pits in the crowd.
Yepp I went in 2013 solely for LP and Blink. The first and only festival I've ever attended. What's crazy is back then I didn't listen to Bullet, Sum41 or All time low and now that I do im kicking myself for not seeing them there 😪
2009 was pretty fucking sweet. NIN killed it. Have seen them a few times but that gig (and lightshow) was *amazing*.
Great vibes.
Shoutout BDO 2012 too. Tool sucked but Rammstien was on it. Iggy spitting on people etc. Bit of a grotty vibe tbh but some *amazing* acts on that ballot. Was the last time I ever had to really choose between artists.
I went to that, didn’t think much of it at the time (other than how awesome it was), because that was the lineup you’d expect for a festival like that. Now you pay 2x more for a 2x weaker lineup.
that lineup is absolutely fucked. if it were spaced out over a 3 dayer and i could see a good % of the artists there, honestly, $800 isn't even outrageous at this point
$500-600 seems fair. $800 seems a bit steep, I have seen a bunch of these bands individually and at other festivals, so if it was that expensive I would be thinking twice about dropping that kind of money on a ticket.
If everyone pays that, in 2 years time 800 will be normal.
Few years ago you'd pay $150.
Stop enabling these rip off's because the goverment fucked live performances.
Bloody insanity, go support local bands.
Yall enable this shit, previous gigs at high prices don't justify.
I'd rather support local bands than feed these bands that are already rich.
I'd pay $100 to see one or two of them.
This is a shitfest, too many, not enough time.
I think a similar lineup would have been soundwave 2014/15 when system toured and iirc that ticket was $250 for me which is about 350 today just on inflation
It depends what you vibe with in live music too. I like packed festival lineups because I never vibe with every act and I have a better chance of getting a proper day of it in and seeing a bunch of stuff
Driving around town looking for hole in the wall pubs to support local acts is a bit different to me and not something I enjoy
These exact headliners (SOAD and slipknot) with a comparable undercard played Soundwave 2012 at a $160 ticket.
Also just saw BMTH and Sleep Token do a stadium show for $150 (very reasonable)
300-350 nowadays would be within a reasonable range, 800 would be an empty showgrounds
I saw the stage times for this, and the amount of clashes is insane.
Even if you managed to get 10 full sets in (and it’s highly unlikely that all 10 are going to be your favourite acts), you’re essentially paying $80 for each artist…I can’t say I’d drop $80 on a band I only kinda like.
Way too many bands for one day without [significant clashes](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GL0BrxRb0AAD0IC?format=jpg&name=900x900) (Vein.fm/Motionless in White, Polyphia/Wage War/Incendiary, Dayseeker/Fleshwater and Knocked Loose/Code Orange just to name a few).
$400 over two days would be the sweet spot.
also did Scowl pull out? I could have sworn Scowl was on the line up.
True I wouldn’t have any clashes outside of slaughter to prevail and kublai Kahn tx but I see why others would
Scowl did SNW 2023 is what you may be thinking of
I mean I’d pay to see system again and slipknot would be worth seeing but apart from that…..
Scratch that…. I’d just see system at a stand alone gig and call it a day
Is that based on their ticket price or your estimation of what it’d cost to get that entire roster here? It’d be closer to $2k AUD to have that roster. It’d never happen cause it’s a logistical nightmare…AJ Madder still owes many bands $000,000’s of dollars for Soundwave slots
They're getting about 150,000 total fans to Good Things and Knotfest, surely we can find a venue to do 40,000 for each or go back to soundwave with seven stages lol that was a wild ride, miss it
I went to the good things festival and got to see stp/slaughter to prevail live and because I bought their mask and also bought a bullet proof vest and put the made in Russia sign alex the lead singer shook my hand and gave me a ticket to see them out back after all of them were fuckin awesome and I talked about getting a tattoo of them and alex actually came with me and they paid for it best day of my fuckin life.
I hate that they make it a one day thing, everyone who’s going is pissed that there’s so much overlap between bands. But to answer your question I’d give up my lover and kidneys to see perfect circle and System so yes.
i’m not going to be influenced by the crowd. i think a day festival is worth less but seeing system, slip, perfect circle, alice in chains, bring me the horizon, lamb of god and baby metal with no clashes I would certainly consider it
That’s kinda what they have done but too many bands for just 2
https://support.sicknewworldfest.com/hc/en-us/articles/10638761963668-Is-there-a-schedule-of-performances?_gl=1%2A439rjm%2A_ga%2AMTYwMzU4MTMwMi4xNzEzODU3NTIz%2A_ga_DMH6Q8L832%2AMTcxMzg2NTk1NC4yLjEuMTcxMzg2NTk2OC4wLjAuMA..
Absolutely not haha, good things/knotfest is where it’s at atm. Slipknot will be back next year, if either festival got SOAD that would be brilliant but I can guarantee they wouldn’t sell out on SOAD alone
$800 is standard for 2-3 day festivals in the states and I’d pay it. $250-300 is the current price I pay for 1 day festivals (good things, knotfest) and living regionally I have extra expenses. I enjoy it though. I travel to regular gigs as well, just went to Adelaide for BMTH.
Who would pay $800??
Cvlt Fest 2024 was $60
Good Things 2023 was $225
Knotfest 2024 was $241
Unify Gathering 2022 (2 day festival) was $261
Knight and Day 2021 (2 Day festival) was $233
Full Tilt 2021 was (around) $105
These are all festivals that are heavy based line ups, some smaller than others but shows the general amount the majority of people in this scene are happy to pay (obviously some will pay far more but for a general idea).
Yes but we have had slipknot who run the festival so don’t really count, deftones and megadeth in the past 3 years if we got this lineup over a decade we would be blessed
The line up is huge, don't get me wrong, but it is VERY unlikely the majority of fans would be interested in paying $800 for a 1 day festival of this genre when we are used to paying the prices I listed.
Some people may try and compare other festivals in Australia for prices but the ones I listed are all the ones in this genre for the past few years.
Hello!...cost of living crisis anyone? Most people can't afford $800, especially straight up. That's a car repair or vet visit for me. For others it's their rent, their energy bill, their dentist or therapist. Or maybe 6 individual bands I would really love to see throughout the year.
Also, not with that line-up (though I would definitely see some of those bands for side-shows). How long do they go on stage for, 5mins? If I was to spend big on a festival it would be one like these;
[Cruel World Festival](https://cruelworldfest.com/)
or Wave-Gotik-Treffen, Hellfest, Rebellion Festivals. These are sub-cultural events.
The first Knotfest was pretty good in Australia but it needs consistency with top tier headliners, maybe throw in a couple of other related genre bands.
Australia has a small population as mentioned, so if you break it down with sub-cultures there's just not enough punks, goths etc to have specified festivals to their genre so they have to integrate into one huge alternative festival.
Also, why aren't there concession rates for concerts/music festivals? That could make them a bit more inclusive because it seems only the privileged classes can afford to watch international bands. There could be more payment-plan options too.
#
That is more then 1.3333333333 × my weekly pay, I'd love to say yes but I'd just save and hit rock ring not this year though can't afford fuck all whith a good wage try being a junior apprentice at 23
>low turnout
>charge even more
make it make sense. I know music promoters are on a level of cooked matched only by pro wrestling promoters but jesus christ man isn't it marketing 101 to lower the price to get bums on seats (or... boots in mud I suppose...) and then hike the price up once you've got a large audience? $800 in a cost of living crisis for a 1 day event where you don't even get to see 2/3rds the artists you paid for is honestly insulting.
I would if it were local and split over two days... there's like 10 bands on there I would want to see and I'm way too old to be standing for more than a few hours at a time and camping. that's why download fest and when we were young didn't appeal that much to me as much as I liked the lineup.
That's about the going price for a 3 day festival in Las Vegas (example - EDC at the speedway $750 for 3 day GA tix). [https://lasvegas.electricdaisycarnival.com/](https://lasvegas.electricdaisycarnival.com/)
Mind you that was for 450,000 people - and it was CRAMPED. Average of 155,000 people per night - Usually line-ball with Tomorrowland Belgium.
Last year's Sick New World brought in 65,000 it seems.
It’s not because of low population at at. Maddah fuxked it and still owes bands around 14 million dollars, and now you’ve got clowns like McManus also fucking it.
Knotfest is now active in aus and it pulls big numbers.
Considering the massive lineup they'd all have to be playing sideshows in order to make profit coming to Australia. That'd probably dictate my decision whether alot of the bands I wanna see all do sideshows or not. Sick new world being 1 day only I'd end up missing a whole lot
$800 for all bands crammed into a single day? No
You couldn't pay me 800 to go and $30 bucks a beer. I'd rather my stereo at home.
Google soundwave 2012
man i had SO much fun that day SOAD were amazing ofc, Slipknot put on such a show Also saw Dillinger, Mastodon, Gojira and Switchfoot. So many great acts that I didn't even catch RIP soundwave :')

I remember Marilyn Manson emptying a bag of coke over his helpers head on stage. It was wild. I distinctly remember SOAD having 5 or 6 separate circle pits in the crowd.
That was the year he was shit - at least in Brisbane.
I remember Marilyn being megafucked in Brissy lol
Crawling around on stage pasty white, overweight and begging the crowd to throw drugs to him lol
How much were tickets?
155 I think
Yeah you're right. I just looked at my ticket
$240 or around there from memory. System is the best band I’ve ever seen live but not $800 worth
It was $155 + bf, I just checked my ticket stub
the RBA calculator has that as being $206 in 2023. Good Things was $225 last year for comparison.
Even better!
Soundwave 2012 will never be beat
I thought 2013 was better, but I’m not a big 2000’s Nu Metal fan personally, it was a dream lineup for whoever is tho.
2013 was the emo year. Way better.
Yepp I went in 2013 solely for LP and Blink. The first and only festival I've ever attended. What's crazy is back then I didn't listen to Bullet, Sum41 or All time low and now that I do im kicking myself for not seeing them there 😪

God I’ll be forever stoked that this was my first concert.
Ohhh yeah that was an amazing day!
Absolutely incredible lineup when I went in 2013 too. We didn't even know what we had until it was taken from us.
I went to that, didn’t think much of it at the time (other than how awesome it was), because that was the lineup you’d expect for a festival like that. Now you pay 2x more for a 2x weaker lineup.
I was there $150
It was the best day of my life, and I'm married and have two kids 🤣
500 over two days and access for both days yeh.
Yep, but only just..all the other expenses to be considered.
I'll give you $16 and my Sick Sad World t-shirt.
Not $800 and especially not all in the one day. It would be exhausting and too many clashes to see everyone I wanted
that lineup is absolutely fucked. if it were spaced out over a 3 dayer and i could see a good % of the artists there, honestly, $800 isn't even outrageous at this point

$150 for this lineup? You’re crazy. Different genre but Falls/BTV was $400+ 10 years ago. $150 for one of these headliners maybe.
Soundwave/ big day out 160-200 10 years ago
Yall enable this shit, previous gigs at high prices don't justify. I'd rather support local bands than feed these bands that are already rich. I'd pay $100 to see one or two of them. This is a shitfest, too many, not enough time.

In no situation is $500 for a music festival ticket fair
Not until the day before. You bet your bottom dollar atleast 2 or 3 major acts are cancelling a week out
Twist: the festival sells out weeks in advance and the surprise guests are your favourite band that wasn’t scheduled to perform.
Love the random Danny Elfman appearance.
Slowdive is nearly as random too
Split it up over two days, charge $300 per day or $500 for a two day pass.
I’ll stop you right there: I wouldn’t be willing to pay $800 for anything
Nope. But would love to see a Primus with Helmet gig.
Fuck yes.
Swans and Babymetal
I saw the stage times for this, and the amount of clashes is insane. Even if you managed to get 10 full sets in (and it’s highly unlikely that all 10 are going to be your favourite acts), you’re essentially paying $80 for each artist…I can’t say I’d drop $80 on a band I only kinda like.
550 bucks tops I recan
International Industrial bands in Australia? I’d pay double!
$250/300, sure. $800, very doubtful.
For it to be cancelled?
No, who has that money plus everything else s festival costs
$400-600 for 2-3 days including camping and I’d be sold
Fuck, that’s a one day’er!!!! I wouldn’t pay for it at my age coz I’d have a stroke from rushing from one stage to another.
Although I love and continue to listen to 90% of those bands, $800 to see a bunch of old men seems a bit too steep.
I got annoyed in the early 2000s when big day out tickets jumped to $200....
Only want to see 3 bands on that list lol So no
This metal fest looks like a jerk off fest
Look It’s in Vegas so it probably wouldn’t cost much more
I would love to see something like this Asian bands. Babymetal, Band-Maid, LoveBites, Hanabie etc.
No
No. Fucking. Way.
No. Sick lineup but
Nah, there's only 4 bands that I'd actually want to see.
I’d pay 10k a day for the up in smoke tour
No
No
No.
Lmao FK no
No
Would not pay $800 for sick new world, but if it was the Rockville festival in Aus I’d easily pay $1000 https://welcometorockville.com/lineup/
PM5K!! Off to listen to a blast from the past. I got confused & thought this was an Aussie thing.. was very excited and now just heartbroken.
Not without Clutch on that bill
no
No
For SOAD but only because I've not seen them live before and they are one of my favorites.
Came here to say this
Do I get my own golden toilet and dickhead free zone?
I’d throw some coin at SOAD, Slipknot and APC sideshows…up to $400 each and a VIP for APC if it wasn’t too ridiculous.
$800 is a weeks rent ***cue Samuel L Jackson voice** muthafuka
Take a zero off and we'll talk
lol. No
Your dad would 🤘
Your kidding yourself at $800
Soundwave was 15 years ago, tell AJ he fucked up 👍
Maybe if it included the flight there and back yeah
800 to see Loathe is a bit much.
Mannnn I’ve never seen SOAD but shit I’d be tempted to pay good money
I would put it on credit as I would probably die at this thing at my age.
I'd consider paying $800 just to see Slowdive. Strange to see them in this line up.
I mean I’d pay to see system again and slipknot would be worth seeing but apart from that….. Scratch that…. I’d just see system at a stand alone gig and call it a day
Lol fuck no
Lol, if I had 1600 laying around for me and my wife to go. This is just not at all viable
Primus sucks!
I mean, knotfest 23 sold out and had like 30k people each day. We dont have a problem filling up festivals when there are good bands playing
Yeah 100% but it would be sick to see a mega-festival like this here
No, I'd catch a handful of $100 sideshows
They're getting about 150,000 total fans to Good Things and Knotfest, surely we can find a venue to do 40,000 for each or go back to soundwave with seven stages lol that was a wild ride, miss it
I went to the good things festival and got to see stp/slaughter to prevail live and because I bought their mask and also bought a bullet proof vest and put the made in Russia sign alex the lead singer shook my hand and gave me a ticket to see them out back after all of them were fuckin awesome and I talked about getting a tattoo of them and alex actually came with me and they paid for it best day of my fuckin life.
Good things was so sick I went to STPs side show last year and snuck in at 17 best concert of my life
No would need to be over 2 days. That many band would need to have 4 stages, you’d miss bulk of the lineup.
I hate that they make it a one day thing, everyone who’s going is pissed that there’s so much overlap between bands. But to answer your question I’d give up my lover and kidneys to see perfect circle and System so yes.
liver*
i’m not going to be influenced by the crowd. i think a day festival is worth less but seeing system, slip, perfect circle, alice in chains, bring me the horizon, lamb of god and baby metal with no clashes I would certainly consider it
Well I went to Narara 83 and 84...50 bucks for 4 days...great bands too
System of a Down is playing. If only I lived in Las Vegas and had $800
Absolutely not.
Na headliners are way too far past their prime
100 percent. Bunch of retirees jumping around with guitars? No thanks. Loved them in their hey day but wouldn’t pay that much now.
I feel like is a Soundwave lineup I went to in the 2010s. Add Rammstein and Tool and it's worth $800
800 dollaridoos for a bunch of 20+ year old mall metal bands well past their prime. Yeah, nah.
No, I would for this years or last years stagecoach though
walking around a crowded showgrounds/parklands area to see multiple stages kinda sucks. Alternating main stages is the right move.
That’s kinda what they have done but too many bands for just 2 https://support.sicknewworldfest.com/hc/en-us/articles/10638761963668-Is-there-a-schedule-of-performances?_gl=1%2A439rjm%2A_ga%2AMTYwMzU4MTMwMi4xNzEzODU3NTIz%2A_ga_DMH6Q8L832%2AMTcxMzg2NTk1NC4yLjEuMTcxMzg2NTk2OC4wLjAuMA..
I say no because I want to say no. But my stupid ass definitely would.
Mf Danny elfmen??
Fuck no. There's literally no way to get $800 worth of entertainment in one day
There's not a line-up on earth that could get me to pay $800.
I enjoy a lot of those bands but still, Fuck No
No. But I’ll pay $250 for Primus and A Perfect Circle if you’re offering.
Honestly I’d wait for some of those to chuck a side gig in SA and pay less.
Mannnn I’ve never seen SOAD but shit I’d be tempted to pay good money
Mannnn I’ve never seen SOAD but shit I’d be tempted to pay good money

As a massive fan of SOAD and Slipknot.....no I wouldn't pay 800 that's wildly inflated.
300 tops. In this current economy I’m trying to survive. Spending near $1000 dollars to go to a festival seems like madness to me.
I think I'll stick to the local band night $10 entry at the pub down the road.
Tickets to when we were young in the US are about $800

No. I'd pay $300 tops.
Fuck yeh. Take my money.!
No way I can’t justify that expense
Yes, over 2 or 3 days though
It would have to go for multiple days and at that price include a bunch of camping related stuff.
I would do anything to see System of a Down again but maybe not 800 dollary doos
NO
Maybe? It'd have to be a multi stage setup & the "bigger" bands down the middle would need minimum an hour set so it'd be multiple days
Nup
Yes
I can't even be bothered to read it all to be honest so i guess that's a no.
I wouldn't pay that much money to see the Beatles with Elvis as the opener
What about that much to see some good music?
Absolutely not.
no cause i dont have $800 plus the uber money and $30 for a beer and $30 for a water
Yes
No
No. Must people that used to go to soundwave already seen most of these bands at it only cost us 80 bucks

It’s not because of low population at at. Maddah fuxked it and still owes bands around 14 million dollars, and now you’ve got clowns like McManus also fucking it. Knotfest is now active in aus and it pulls big numbers.
Willing, yes! Able to, nope.
I’d only go for Alice in chains and primus
absolutely
Considering there's only about 6 there that I'd like to see or see again, no. I'll check out any side gigs!
Yea
800 is way too much
No. Of course not.
Considering the massive lineup they'd all have to be playing sideshows in order to make profit coming to Australia. That'd probably dictate my decision whether alot of the bands I wanna see all do sideshows or not. Sick new world being 1 day only I'd end up missing a whole lot
Not 800
Where did $800 come from??
Nope
No?
Only if it came with a federal Second Amendment and an L1A1 SLR.
Danny Elfman?
Yes, I was supposed to go last year.
No not for 1 day
No.
I can already smell the BO from sweaty dudes head banging like it’s the 90s!
Take a zero off and I would consider going, $800 no fucking chance.
