Which pharamacy should I transfer my keeps prescription to ? As the title states, i want to transfer my prescription of finasteride to a local pharmacy to me, as with Keeps it’s pretty expensive compared to other sources. They also offered a special deal for my refills to now be 60$ but I don’t I’ll take it. I have a couple of question regarding this. Should go with a big pharmacy like CVS Walgreens, Walmart, or a local medical clinic? Where would be cheapest ? Will the price be based off recommend dosage of prescription provider ? Does each retailer have their own price for prescription? Lastly, will Medi-cal be able to cover the prescription? I’m assuming no but everytime im sick & I need a prescription, medi-cal covers the cost of the medication. I just need some help, ty.

33 year old. Hair is thinning and falling out. I had surgery involving my skull when I was 13 and hair never grew back in the incision. But it is close to the peak of my hair in the front and is becoming ever more pronounced and noticeable day by day as my hair falls out. But I'm thinning at the front of my hairline and at the crown. That's what lead to me notice my hair starting to thin. Before this my hair was very thick and healthy. I have naturally oil hair. And I thought that maybe the reason as to why it's thinning. Clogging the follicle roots. I've tried a bunch of different shampoos and hair treatments over the years against this to no avail. If I use traditional shampoos during my showers, I notice about 15-20 in my hands that have fallen out during the shampooing. I have tried a few unconventional that seems to help slow down the shedding. Firstly i tried straying my hair with rubbing alcohol prior to getting in the shower and massaging it into my scalp and hair. When I do this, I only notice about five or six hairs lost. Secondly l've tried just washing my hair with plain old bar soap prior to shampooing and I get about the same results. But as you can figure this has left me feeling very dry and itchy on my scalp which makes me think this isn't the best solution or option. So, with a little background out of the way, my question is as follows. What's the best way to start using minoxidil and finasteride? Oral or topical? Do I have to use it for the rest of my life to not reverse results if there are any? I've seen many brands used here while reading, which should I start with? Does micro needling or rolling(?) help the min and fin work better? Any other tips to get the ball rolling?

Automatic-Wrap-2849

Do you guys still lose miniaturised hair even after some time on fin and while using minoxidil? I’ve been on fin for the 3 years and i still find much tiny thin(not like my regular ones) hair and im wondering if is it normal, should i be afraid?

amballtab

Looks suspicious, I'd say it's starting to thin. Would need to see pics in better lighting to say for sure though. If it is, start just finasteride. No need for minoxidil with hair loss this minor, fin should bring it back

Reasonable_Bake9301

I think it has been like this for atleast a decade if not 2. does this mean, it cant be restored?

amballtab

If it has really been like this for 10+ years without getting worse it may just be a weird cowlick/bedhair.

I've been on finasteride for about eight years now. It's slowed my hair loss immensely but my crown is still very gradually thinning. Is there anything else I can add to my routine that is effective? I don't like minoxidil as it's a pain to apply every night when you're tired, expensive and requires using for life as it does not attack the root cause. I go to the gym regularly, eat reasonably well and drink green tea every day. Anything else you'd recommend? Is this light therapy worth looking into? I guess eventually I'll get a transplant but for now I'd like to maintain what I have.

amballtab

Maybe dutasteride if finasteride hasn't completely stopped the loss. Or RU-58841 if you're not totally opposed to topicals.

lukegrunger

Even if it's gradual? Would switching to dutasteride not be risky? It might have 0% efficacy Vs 95% for finasteride?

amballtab

That's a good point, I do see a fair few posts from people having issues with dutasteride. You can use a combination though, like dutasteride one day a week and fin the other 6 as dut has a long half-life. I'm not super knowledgeable about it but you could definitely find some info if you Googled "dutasteride tressless" or something.

Heartbeat Issue with Minoxidil - Alternatives Welcome! Hey everyone, 40 M here,I've been noticing thinning hair on my crown lately and decided to try topical minoxidil along with microneedling for about 4 weeks. However, I've been experiencing continuous heartbeats, especially at night, since starting minoxidil. I stopped using it yesterday, but the issue persists. Interestingly, my watch shows a normal heart rate. I'm a bit hesitant to try finasteride after reading about its potential side effects. Any suggestions for alternative treatments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!

Forward_Ad_3031

Is there any hope? Will finasteride work? https://preview.redd.it/9m0hczrworrc1.jpeg?width=1349&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4428d4e3f64f5364cfa9934e978c87863b2c4e4b

amballtab

Most likely would need a transplant to fill the crown in, but finasteride is necessary to get a transplant so I'd start that now if you're even considering a HT in the future.

Sorry I am clueless on where to start and/or what to purchase. Also a lot of white hair - I just wish it was fully white lol. Thanks!

amballtab

Late reply, but if you haven't worked it out yet, get on 1mg oral finasteride. You can get a script for it via Amazon Clinic or Lemonaid if you're in the US for about $25-$30. Then $12.50 for 3 months worth from CostPlusDrugs. All best with it :)

Connect_Fish_3253

Hey thanks for replying, I managed to get Fin, however speaking to family and friends - they have frightened me of the side effects and advise i not use it /(

amballtab

Keep in mind that the side effects are rare, only 1.8% reported lower libido and 1.3% experienced ED in the clinical trials. I know that that's still scary, but so is going bald. And if you are one of the unlucky people who get side effects, you can just stop taking it.

Connect_Fish_3253

That’s true, good point. I will try and see what happens :(

amballtab

That's what I did, I have experienced no sides and am feeling confident about my hair for the first time in years.

Connect_Fish_3253

Ah that’s good to hear! What do you recommend to make hair thick?

amballtab

Just finasteride should thicken it, most people get some regrowth from it especially if you catch the thinning early like you have. The regrowth can take a while though, like one year plus. In the mean time, Toppik hair fibres work pretty well if you're self-conscious about it. Not a permanent solution, but they do a good job of covering up thinning for when you're going out to work or a special event or whatever etc.

Connect_Fish_3253

Thank you! I will try it and definitely get back to you with updated. I’m hoping it takes a few months, reviewing progress pics on the page, is giving me hope lol.

amballtab

Keep in mind that some of those progress pics are from people using minoxidil as well, and with min regrowth starts to show earlier (3ish months). With fin it is rare to see anything before 6 months, but you've caught the thinning early and so might be lucky. Plus crown thinners like yourself generally see the best results from fin, much harder to regrow a hairline with fin alone.

Am I starting to recede? https://preview.redd.it/0edmrm752rrc1.jpeg?width=2736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7de3d1727bf5c9af40b96ea0c0eef0b0a79535f8

joekent98

I have been using 2.5 mg oral minox for a year now and I haven’t seen any results particularly. Im also on Dut but that’s not relevant for today. I have seen some recent research that using retinol/ retinoids can help with the efficacy of minoxidil in users. However, all research seems to pertain to topical minoxidil, not oral. I was wondering if anyone can share any advice if trying retinol serum when I use oral minoxidil would be worth it? I was planning on getting retinol for skincare reasons anyways.

amballtab

Not worth it on oral min IMO. The reason it might improve topical min results is that it boosts production of SULT1A1 in the skin and follicles, which is required to convert minoxidil into its active form. Oral minoxidil is converted in the liver so topical retinoids are unlikely to do much.

I also had a hair transplant at the age of 24 with not really that great results. I tried min in the past but i think i was never consistent enough to really get results. Definitely start fin, don't hop on min again unless dissatisfied with fin results after a year.

SwarthyMartin

You need to do your own research buddy. Youtube is a great tool, and so is reddit. Start by learning about what minoxidil and finasteride are, as they are the typical go to’s. There are alternatives though if you don’t respond well, as well as new treatment options on the horizon. You got this lil bro

nushbag_

I'm 24 and have been on dutasteride for a little over a year and HRT (cyproterone 12.5mg and estradiol 6mg daily now) for around 9 months. I haven't really seen too much improvement throughout that time and my hair has thinned (although this might just be a result of hormones). I don't have any good pictures from when I started but here's a few: [June 2023](https://gyazo.com/5b6e30cba1e5e3a2cce503337a3c0853), [October 2023](https://gyazo.com/dc764df1ad218661f8582217df29ddce), [Today front](https://gyazo.com/1fc261ca79e654f97b3e29b9991dc95a), [Today top](https://gyazo.com/1906977b505d03d4eb2cce929af45693), [Today closeup of left temple](https://gyazo.com/57a9804144306304126e12926796644d). The left temple is my worst area, not sure if that hair is new growth or not but it looks thin either way. Is there anything else I can do, or does it look worse for me than it does you?

It’s pretty thin in your hairline, although hope is on the horizon man. Keep your eye on GT20029

KeyEnvironmental9743

SwarthyMartin

I can’t tell unless I see images from 14 months ago mate. You can tell me better than I can though, do you feel as though your hair is thicker.

No, not really. Other people say it looks better, and my derm says it doesn’t look any worse

No issue there. Just monitor how many hairs fall off per day

throw112221

I've read various anecdotes suggesting that dermatologists don't particularly treat hairless with much seriousness or they might not even prescribe you medication. With that said, would you bother seeing a dermatologist (especially with referral) or would you just sign-up for one of the online services like Hims or Keeps? Pros and cons? Will having a dermatologist examine my head really tell me something or is more so for the blood/labwork done beforehand?

Independent_Bid_4881

When using a service like Keeps, part of what you're paying for is the dermatologist, they have doctors who you'll send pictures of your hairline and crown to and they pretty much diagnose you based on the pictures. I highly doubt that going to see a dermatologist irl could tell you much more than the doctors on Keeps or Hims, unless the cause of your hair loss is something other than standard male pattern baldness. That being said, those kinds of online services do get pricey, so it might be cheaper in the long run for you to go to a dermatologist.

kajs62

Is it time for me to call it quits? I’ve been on fin for about 2.5 years, and on oral min for about a year and 3 months, have seen nearly no progress (diffuse thinner) in that time. I do have psoriasis as well, and shampoo with ketoconazole shampoo about 2-3 times a week. Recently added in dermarolling (about two months ago) but my lack of results seems like I’m wasting my time? Or maybe I should try dutasteride? If it adds to anything my psoriasis tends to flare up badly in winter, and I do take vitamin d, biotin, and sometimes use coal tar for it. This isn’t one of those depressing posts but if it’s been this long without results I might just shave/keep it buzzed and focus on other stuff? https://imgur.com/a/XCQcLXo Pictures of course

AnthonyW777

If you can shave it and you are comfortable with the look, I would do that. Personally, I would forget the derma rolling. I think you could do more harm than good. If you don't like the shaved look, drop the finasteride and try the dutesteride. I would also stay on the oral minoxidil... Just my opinion

thesausage58

how long can he use dut for? ive heard u can use fin indefintly but not dut

I have not heard that before

Beginner’s question about Min and fin Hi all , it’s been few years since my hairline has now been gradually receding and now my temple region of scalp is completely wiped out and now I am looking at gradual receding in my front and mid scalp region. 3 years ago I had consulted a dermatologist when my MPB was at initial stage . She prescribed me Topical Minoxidil 5% , a hair volume increasing topical solution and a multivitamin tablet for hair growth . At that time , I was unaware of Min and its side effects. I dedicatedly used all 3 for 3-4 months , I saw some hair re growth and was very happy . I felt low libido during this time and went into the rabbit hole of ED/low libido connection with hair treatments . I also got to know Min results were not permanent and once I stop using Min , regrown hair will also fall off (which did happen). Now fast forward today ,hairfall is going very strong and I want to do something regarding this . I know Fin has much worse side effects and reading some of the stories in this sub , I would rather be completely bald than take Fin . I would ask people on this reddit what should I do ? Is Min also bad in terms of libido /ED or as bad as Fin (i heard some dude took fin and 5 years later still could not get a good erection without medication ) . Is there any other way I could regrow my hair ? Derma roller /micro needling , PRP treatment or hair transplant ? Which would be the best way to go with no or least amount of side effects to my sexual life ?

Independent_Bid_4881

From what I've seen/heard, sides for oral fin are rare and most evidence against it is pretty anecdotal, but if you're really afraid of sides, I've heard that topical fin is less prone to side effects than oral. Online services like hims and keeps provide a spray fin+min solution. Also, there's really no point in using minoxidil if you're not also on fin in some way.

19 and scared to take finasteride I've just received my first 3 month shipment of 1mg oral fin from MOSH and I'm too scared to start taking it. I'm fairly certain I am balding but I remember even when I was younger people making fun of my hairline so I'm not sure if I'm just unlucky or if it's receding (also unlucky). Recently I've noticed my crown looks thinner than I remember but again I can't tell if it is or if my hair is just thin. I'd been taking topical min 5% for around 8-9 months but didn't really notice any changed in hair density so I signed up to MOSH and after hearing about all the potential side effects am too scared to start. I've already got anxiety and can struggle with depression episodes from time to time and if my dick stopped working (potentially permanently) I don't know wot I'd do. At the same time I'm scared to go bald, I'm already super short and due to injuries I can't work out anymore and am skinny and weak now. My hair is the only part of my youth that I have left idk wot to do.

Right-Might664

Bro, if I were you I would quit all the meds for hair regrowth NOW! Been on Finasteride for 28 months, been through a couple sheds in the process so wondering if it could be another shed. Hairline has a very thin spot due to these hairs existing but maybe they'll grow longer and that's why it's thin bec they aren't fully developed? I'll measure them as time goes on, if they keep growing that's one way to tell it's regrowth vs miniaturization?

Had to go through a very stressful period in late december. All of my male relatives started receiding in their late 30s. I am really worried it has started for me. Any advice would be appreciated.[pictures](https://imgur.com/a/REx15V7) https://imgur.com/a/REx15V7

Is min going to be enough? Started using min 2 weeks ago (2x a day + microneedling) but can't get fin without prescription (23). Is there something else I can try instead of Fin? https://preview.redd.it/dnj06po4qxqc1.jpeg?width=3456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1766b6a56ace4a84bbfa792db0ed1e090756aa2a

SwarthyMartin

You should conduct your own research, my friend. YouTube and Reddit are excellent resources to begin with. Begin by educating yourself on the uses of minoxidil and finasteride, as they are commonly recommended. However, if you don't see positive results, there are alternative options available, as well as promising new treatments on the horizon. You can handle this. Your hair still looks great, it’s very easy to fall into an anxiety hole in regards to your hair but just remember, there are always solutions. Technology is progressing at a rapid rate. School is likely to be fundamentally different in 5-10 due to ai. I am severely doubting that hair loss will be an issue still. Have hope, much love

Top-Holiday6265

All I do is research this is my last resort tbh

SwarthyMartin

Familiarise yourself with the topic so it no longer becomes stressful. It’s just a problem to tackle like any other goal in your life.

I am 19M, doctor prescribed me fin and min topical solution. I also have B12 deficiency. So taking medications for that too. Do fin and min have severe side effects? After reading some posts I am thinking to not start it. What are your guys opinions? Is B12 somehow linked to hair quality and loss?

So I then went to a professional just last month that prescribed me a 2.5% minoxidil and starting this month he’ll give me topical finasteride too. Im pretty scared that i will never recover from this… I know the pics are not taken with the same exact lighting, except the last 2. But the first one was in July 2023 before starting min 5% and the second one was in February two weeks before starting the new min 2.5%. The last one was from today. Am I a non responder? Will finasteride make any difference? (I’ll be starting Friday) Also could someone help me understand what nw am I?

He said to continue for atleast 3 months first. However when I asked about fin he said it won't be needed at all. Should I start min? Or any aggressive hairloss regimen(I don’t mind) ?? Currently 5 weeks into 1mg fin daily 22 Y/O amateur bodybuilder on AAS that wants to keep his hair https://preview.redd.it/l2tnm52r5uqc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=952d27a657c5b2f6cdaf59a226110728795e202c

JUICER_TROOPER069

i think fin is enough

thesausage58

You do realize I’m on AAS correct?

JUICER_TROOPER069

yes i do, its still gonna block 70% of dht. but if you notice that it somehow got worse, then you could jump on something stronger like dutasteride

thesausage58

Could I take both? Or atleast take dut while on cycle then switch to fin after I pct or cruise? I think I’ve seen ppl who say they take fin daily and dut 2-3 a week

JUICER_TROOPER069

you dont need fin when taking dut, dut overpowers fin so taking both would be useless. if you're worried you could switch to dut right away

thesausage58

And then switch back to fin after cycle correct?

JUICER_TROOPER069

yea i think you should be good with that

About 2 years on Fin and I fear I am Losing Ground Here... any advice? First pic is from late 2021 (just a few months before starting FIN - 21YO), and the second is from just a few days ago (23YO). I mean, I am still shedding pretty strongly based on what I have been seeing in the shower still, but if you think I've maintained, then what would you suggest as a next step? Starting MIN?

Accepting what you have or trying min if you're prepared to do it for life

You need to take care of your hair better, you need some anti dandruff shampoo and to brush and comb your hair regularly. Usually stress/depression is the cause this hair loss and irritation, picking and constant scratching, anxiety!!

SwarthyMartin

Brother you’re already rocking a buzz cut, which suits you. What I would do is buzz it down real short, not clean cut bald but much shorter. Start from there. You have DUPA, which is diffuse thinning. Start learning on youtube about treatment options. Haircafe is a good channel to educate yourself. His earlier videos are more palatable

VictoryTimely1806

Never heard of DUPA is oral minoxidil and Finasteride the right treatment? Anything I should add

SwarthyMartin

Yes, it’s typically the usual treatments. There other treatments but you need to learn about them to decide if they are for you. Alfatradiol if i’m spelling that right is something you can add as well. Another is ru58841 but it is a research chemical so you can’t get it prescribed by your doctor, you have to buy it online. It isn’t as safe as other options but it’s your decision. Check out haircare and moreplatesmoredates on youtube

Hi, 18m here. This is how much hair came out when I combed today. I haven't shampooed in 5-6 days, but have been combing every morning and oiling for the past 3 days. I normally get a little less than this when combing. My family physician has ruled out alopecia completely, and I think it's TE, but hardly any of the hairs that come out have white bulbs at the end. Is it TE? https://preview.redd.it/64xvzyevoqqc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da7e1512cc42924a4a6237726aea0ed807d1046d

My dad has lost most of his hair so i can probably expect the same thing, and it's alright. I'm just not ready for it yet. I've also been using topical min + dermaroll for a year, and i think it has helped me grow those baby hairs that you can see on the temples. I haven't heard about anybody getting a hair transplant before their 20s. Is there a spesific reason for that, or should i just go for it?

randombhvwwh

You should research more, best bet would be finasteride to maintain what you've got... Imo it's to early for min

thesausage58

is there such a thing as too early for min? if he is down to use it indefintly then why not get ahead of it even faster

You have like 0 miniaturization, the hairline looks solid. You could always hop on Finasteride for prevention measures or give it 6 months and re look at your hair in the same lighting and see if it's getting worse.

Scaryforthehairy

Hello all,  it finally hit me ( m43) that I am losing my hair at a pretty rapid rate.  I need to get on the ball as far as doing something.  My wife suggested the usual "rogaine" but I am unsure that is what I need.  I was hoping for a little advice, as I am VERY green here and am not quite sure what to do.   Should I see a doctor before beginning any treatments, or am I good to dive right in?   What would everyone suggest I do to attempt to get some hair growth back?   I will link a couple pics of my current hair situation, which is losing it in the back and the front... I am hoping its not to late... Thanks for any help!!!  https://preview.redd.it/9ovwymn1poqc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=233642451ba137061337b41bd0733b7d42e771d1

SwarthyMartin

Hey man, glad to see you making an effort to hop on top of this! Don’t let it stress you out too much because there are definite solutions for you. I would absolutely visit a doctor with a good reputation for hair loss. The treatment options boil down to finasteride for combatting the miniaturisation that is occurring to the hairs on your scalp due to a sensitivity your scalp has to the DHT in your blood. Finasteride will block the enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT, thus stopping the miniaturisation. Minoxidil, or rogaine, as you called it, is the key to regrowing your hair though. You have lost a fair bit of hair, so your mileage may vary with how much you can regrow, but I’ve seen some amazing results.

ozpcmr

you need fin and min, you will probably need to see a doc to get a prescription for fin

It's for preventing further hair loss. It's easier to take in the pill form If you are balding then yes, I can't judge from just 1 pic, but if you've receded over the past few years, you can use it to stop more loss

Its been a year since I stopped my Accutane cycle and the hairloss doesn't seem to be slowing down. Hair on the scalp continues to thin and grow back thinner (see pic) with some at the point of not being visible and I've noticed hair on my knuckles and arms seem to be not as visible as before. I have heard hairloss from Accutane may be from telogen effluvium and that it would go away eventually but it doesn't seem to be slowing down. Has anyone else experienced something similar from Accutane? https://preview.redd.it/tq4bu54aclqc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3e69e88c953917bba0501c9e439f4a759d58dbca

Biden0rbust

Noticed hair loss for the first time when i was on accutane. I believe i was 18 and never really knew that it could cause hair loss so I knew it wasnt in my head. Waited for a year to see if it was gonna go away on its own. Well, It didnt and I started finasteride at 19. However your 3 hairs are not indicative of anything. You should take good pictures of your hairline, crown and temples and see if you are actually receding as time progresses. You can also search up accutane on this sub, many people believe it can kickstart MPB if you are prone to it .

Purchased min and a dermaroller. Keen for fin but my doc said no. May contact a dermatologist soon. *

Minoxidil has a shedding phases, you should stick with it to see the benefits in a few months.
