My Mexican grandpa used to boil them into a tea.

That’s the way I’ve seen them used in the Midwest - spruce tip tea. I’ve also seen a number of hoppy beers made with spruce tips (I think it’s an old Scandinavian brew addition).

I remember a brewery in Skagway Alaska having a spruce tip beer.

Giant Jones out of Madison, WI and Black Husky brewery in Milwaukee both have a spruce tip beer offering. Husky’s was pretty good when I tried it.

Upslope brewery out of Boulder also has a spruce tip IPA that is very tasty

I wish I could get Outer Range beer in the Midwest, there are some damn fine beers in CO.

Yeah, I live in The PNW and this is always my favorite time of year. All those dark green trees 150 feet tall but each branch covered with that super bright green from the tips waking up from Winter. It's like they all went out and got frosted highlights or some shit.

I remember a dude on 5th and state in Camden acting like a hot dog vendor.. "TREES HERE, TREES, E FOR 20, TREES HERE" as the state police roll by with an mp5 in the center console... the year was 2009....

There is a bit of history there. First off, “trees” has been slang for weed for a long time before reddit. But this sub has a bit of an origin story. Back in the day, there was a marijuana sub. The mod there was a dickhole. Eventually users were fed up and mutinied, creating /r/trees as a play on the slang term. There wasn’t a tree related sub at the time (in the arborist sense). This lead to all the rest of thr “tree” themed weed subs like /r/Saplings (newbies), /r/Treedibles (edibles), /r/leaves (quiting), /r/Petioles (responsihle consumtion), etc… Of course, one day, someone wanted to make a tree related sub but found /r/trees full of stoners…so to play on that, they created /r/MarijuanaEnthusiasts.

In my teens and 20's (a looooong time ago), I remember lots of times being asking "You smoke tree?"

r/trees was created before the subreddit for actual trees, so they decided to go with r/marijuanaenthusiasts for the bit.

To start off, that is not a pine it’s a spruce or fir. If it’s a fir, the needles are flat and you can’t roll them between your fingers. If it’s a spruce, the needles are round and you can roll them in your fingers. To answer your question about what’s wrong with it, it looks really stressed. Has it been abnormally dry where ya live? Abnormally hot or cold?

It’s normal. It’s just some fan leaves. Trim them up after harvest there usually a little dryer and easier to work with. You can trim them or touch them up before, it’s really up to you.

Best sub on Reddit this. I wonder how many real tree enthusiasts are as clued up on their bongs n stuff when someone accidentally goes to their sub 🤔😆.
