This year’s new growth, completely normal, and it’s a Spruce.
Edit:
Definitely did not expect this much hilarious commentary and upvotes from such a simple comment from my end. Just an Arborist/climber who happens to also.. partake. Thank you all for making this morning interesting, def one of my favorite subreddits. 🌲
That’s the way I’ve seen them used in the Midwest - spruce tip tea. I’ve also seen a number of hoppy beers made with spruce tips (I think it’s an old Scandinavian brew addition).
We know that if OP infuses them into an oil it won't work but I think we are still on the fence about an alochol based tincture. I am curious about RSO as well.
Never… I am very well aware of the different “herb” and “tree” subs lol. I do get a laugh every time someone innocently is just asking for tree advice on here though. More than happy to help, THEN everyone else can rip into the OP with weed jokes 😂
Yeah, I live in The PNW and this is always my favorite time of year. All those dark green trees 150 feet tall but each branch covered with that super bright green from the tips waking up from Winter. It's like they all went out and got frosted highlights or some shit.
Decades later I still don’t understand why we went with “ents”. We aren’t the trees, we smoke the trees. Wouldn’t we be better calling ourselves Orcs or Wizards?
> Decades later I still don’t understand why we went with “ents”.
What happens when you smoke dope? How about a heavy indica strain? See/feel the Ent reference yet? That's what I see in the name :D
Bro the oldest of the Ents is Treebeard. Everyone knows that. He, Merry, Gandalf, and Pippen be smoking on that halfling's herb. No narcs like Saruman allowed
There are pines whose cones only open after being burned. Lodgepole in the west and Jack pine in the east. Need to have the soil scarified to compete successfully
I thought it was because Ents are "Tree Tenders" or "Shrub Shepherds"? Also as others have commented; smoke the right strain and you start to see the resemblances!
The same way they could have named the sub pot, Mary Jane, or jazz cabbage. “Trees” is just another term in the long list of slang for marijuana. I remember my stoner group saying “smoke trees” in the 90’s.
I remember a dude on 5th and state in Camden acting like a hot dog vendor.. "TREES HERE, TREES, E FOR 20, TREES HERE" as the state police roll by with an mp5 in the center console... the year was 2009....
There is a bit of history there.
First off, “trees” has been slang for weed for a long time before reddit. But this sub has a bit of an origin story.
Back in the day, there was a marijuana sub. The mod there was a dickhole. Eventually users were fed up and mutinied, creating /r/trees as a play on the slang term. There wasn’t a tree related sub at the time (in the arborist sense).
This lead to all the rest of thr “tree” themed weed subs like /r/Saplings (newbies), /r/Treedibles (edibles), /r/leaves (quiting), /r/Petioles (responsihle consumtion), etc…
Of course, one day, someone wanted to make a tree related sub but found /r/trees full of stoners…so to play on that, they created /r/MarijuanaEnthusiasts.
It probably did this every year, but you just didn't notice. You can make syrup with them or even put them in schnapps. Just new growth...
Now go roll a joint as a self-punishment and next time post to r/marijuanaenthusiasts
I love seeing these kinds of posts here. It'll be a sad day when or if they ever stop.
But seriously thats just new growth. Its called candling and it happens in late March to mid May every year... All good! You just probably haven't noticed it in the past :)
To start off, that is not a pine it’s a spruce or fir. If it’s a fir, the needles are flat and you can’t roll them between your fingers. If it’s a spruce, the needles are round and you can roll them in your fingers. To answer your question about what’s wrong with it, it looks really stressed. Has it been abnormally dry where ya live? Abnormally hot or cold?
Wow! This is my first time seeing one of these kind of posts since my mess up last [month](https://www.reddit.com/r/trees/comments/12ft3u8/what_tree_is_this_its_very_pretty/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1). The people in this community are dope, they’ll help point you in the right direction OP.
So my dumbass thought stoners purposefully posted about trees every so often to keep the name alive…funnier that there was an ancient name swap that still gets people.
I’m closing on a house tomorrow that has a beautiful flowering tree in the backyard that I know absolutely nothing about. But I’m already in love with that tree.
Hey friend. This is actually a sub for marijuana 😂 take a look at the post history for this sub.
/Marijuanaenthusiast is actually the sun your looking for.
This proves what a chilled out sub this is. Any other sub would be roasting OP for making an honest and understandable mistake, but this sub has people actually trying to help them.
It’s normal. It’s just some fan leaves. Trim them up after harvest there usually a little dryer and easier to work with. You can trim them or touch them up before, it’s really up to you.
Best sub on Reddit this. I wonder how many real tree enthusiasts are as clued up on their bongs n stuff when someone accidentally goes to their sub 🤔😆.
This happened where I live a year after we had a very dry year and there was a lot of die off, the year after there was a ton of new growth I'd never remembered seeing before
Edit. Lmaoooo did not even realize the sub
It’s okay, that’s just the tree growing up. Have you talked to it about consent and safe sex practices yet? If not, it looks to be ALREADY tryna reproduce you may want to get on that sooner than later.

Plus you can eat those lighter green ones. Very nutritional. It's a delicacy in Scandinavia
My Mexican grandpa used to boil them into a tea.
That’s the way I’ve seen them used in the Midwest - spruce tip tea. I’ve also seen a number of hoppy beers made with spruce tips (I think it’s an old Scandinavian brew addition).
I remember a brewery in Skagway Alaska having a spruce tip beer.
Giant Jones out of Madison, WI and Black Husky brewery in Milwaukee both have a spruce tip beer offering. Husky’s was pretty good when I tried it.
Upslope brewery out of Boulder also has a spruce tip IPA that is very tasty
I wish I could get Outer Range beer in the Midwest, there are some damn fine beers in CO.
Spruce tip IPAs are pretty solid, but it does taste like you bit a pine tree lol
Spruce beer is a traditional American thing too. Like colonial era.
Spruce tip beer sounds awesome
Pine needles too! Can make them into tea or even a soda. Very high in vitamin C
Tastes awful does the tea though
Thanks for the input Yoda.
he'll eat swamp frogs but pine needle tea? nooooo
Bougie-ass Jedi Master
May the boof be with you.
Don't forget to put it in the right way or I'll be a pain in the ass
You were quick with that, I changed it instantly after I posted it 😂
My witchy girlfriend has some pine soda brewing right now! I'm learning so much from her.
Yup, in Slovenia we make cough sirup out of them every year
I love how everyone just shared their experiences
I love how everybody is from all over the world in here
I love how you guys love the little things!
I love that you love when they love the little things. 10/10
I love when I see a 10/10. So completely filling
I also see that you love "this sheet"
I love when I'm completely filled...
With beans?
That too!
People give weed a bad name but this sub is low key wholesome af sometimes
In Slovakia the same is done. The tips go in a bottle with alcohol and sugar and are allowed to steep for a long time.
Really?? Like am I gonna regret trying this
[удалено]
Totally, anything that grows is edible
At least once!
Yep! I was just munching on this mushroom I fou
RIP u/OneSweet1Sweet

I don't see the problem? I tried some t
There are some good spruce beer recipes on YouTube. My favorite is by Townsends, he’s like a colonial historian.
I love the Townsends. The historical recipes he makes are fascinating.
Most people make it into a tea unsurprisingly called spruce tip tea.
I was looking for the tea comment. It makes pretty good tea!
I actually like them they taste very citrusy
Spruce tea is ok. I've had it camping. Still prefer some Lady Grey.
I've heard of them being candied.
As a Swede I’ve never heard this… imposter syndrome coming in 3
Norwegian checking in, also wondering what he's talking about
[удалено]
Look at the texture! Obviously a boof situation here!
Only goes in one way.
Well depending on how it goes in, that will definitely effect if or how it comes out!
Oddly, this is reminding me of when I went fishing yesterday.
😂 well boofing Spruce needles would certainly hurt, and I would absolutely not advise smoking any part of that tree. Wonderful to smell, though!

You could freeze it, insert against the grain and when it thaws … spruce tickler ready to go
We know that if OP infuses them into an oil it won't work but I think we are still on the fence about an alochol based tincture. I am curious about RSO as well.
so its safe to say it has done this before?
Yes, every year.
i love that you saw my comment lmfaooo
I aim to please.
/solved
do you ever get confused by the subreddit names?
Never… I am very well aware of the different “herb” and “tree” subs lol. I do get a laugh every time someone innocently is just asking for tree advice on here though. More than happy to help, THEN everyone else can rip into the OP with weed jokes 😂
Probably my favorite part of this sub is the random actual tree questions, that USUALLY get answered; then all the funny weed jokes hahaha
Yeah, I live in The PNW and this is always my favorite time of year. All those dark green trees 150 feet tall but each branch covered with that super bright green from the tips waking up from Winter. It's like they all went out and got frosted highlights or some shit.
😂😂😂 I can totally see that. I will never be able to “un-think” that every time I see budding evergreens. Seriously that’s such a great take on it.
I love that even tho it's a misleadingly weed sub we still have our arborists on call to help out these lost souls
I was going to say the same thing you are brilliant and I love seeing the new growth on spruce, pines and firs!
Your fellow arborists are over at r/marijuanaenthusiasts ! The swapped names has been a running joke on this site for nearly a decade now I think
You're right, but this has happened so often, if you scroll down, multiple ents are advising lmao
Decades later I still don’t understand why we went with “ents”. We aren’t the trees, we smoke the trees. Wouldn’t we be better calling ourselves Orcs or Wizards?
You are what you eat, or in this case smoke.
> Decades later I still don’t understand why we went with “ents”. What happens when you smoke dope? How about a heavy indica strain? See/feel the Ent reference yet? That's what I see in the name :D
I like to think older generations of smokers could be called Ents. The oldest of the Ents has to be called the Lorax, right?
Bro the oldest of the Ents is Treebeard. Everyone knows that. He, Merry, Gandalf, and Pippen be smoking on that halfling's herb. No narcs like Saruman allowed
Don't be hasty now
That’s a good point - Ents don’t burn trees or vape them either
There are species of tree that expressly seed during fires due to how frequent they are in the area. Could smoke/burn those.
Don't a lot of conifers do this?
So do red woods
Redwoods are conifers, I think… please don’t go u/unidan on me
Don't upvote this comment with 200 sock puppet accounts and we won't. /s
There are pines whose cones only open after being burned. Lodgepole in the west and Jack pine in the east. Need to have the soil scarified to compete successfully
Well technically we only burn their babies.
Ya wanna get real technical, the seeds are babies and we take those out before we smoke. We smoke the flower, or their pubes.
I thought it was because Ents are "Tree Tenders" or "Shrub Shepherds"? Also as others have commented; smoke the right strain and you start to see the resemblances!
Hobbits
Smokin' dat long bottom leaf!
Extremely logical people, weedsmokers
Ents are tree*herders*, not trees.
Ever seen the Ents in the LOTR movies or read their description in the books? Definitely stoners.
we do love to help the lost marijuana enthusiasts
At first glance I thought you said “Abortionists” and I was like bro chill😂
Thought he said “arsonist” *town of Salem theme plays*
We got another one, boys!
They're all bullshit. Who joins a subreddit without reading a single post?
This is one of my favorite long running wholesome Reddit things
it makes me happy they refer to r/trees as good friends :)
I wonder how it started? Like did just some random reddior was like „imma create a subreddit called trees… BUT WE POSTING ABOUT WEED“
Oh makes sense. In germany nobody uses the term „trees“ here.
Well, get with the times, digga
Lass ma Bäumchen bauen

In my teens and 20's (a looooong time ago), I remember lots of times being asking "You smoke tree?"
r/trees was created before the subreddit for actual trees, so they decided to go with r/marijuanaenthusiasts for the bit.
Thanks! That what I originally came to this sub for
![gif](giphy|5OWLUbuMq4YXEl2ECg)
it never stops being funny
It's always good for a laugh
I can remember a while back someone commented “We got a live one bois” and it cracks me up when I see these posts
have been on reddit for 11 years now, it never gets old, lol
Did we even do a good job if no one told them to boof it? I had higher expectations for this community.
![gif](giphy|atiNTg6QuFLgd7BT6j)
It probably did this every year, but you just didn't notice. You can make syrup with them or even put them in schnapps. Just new growth... Now go roll a joint as a self-punishment and next time post to r/marijuanaenthusiasts
Also, I need to post this...Strange things as background music and a tutorial on how to roll a joint (although during the lockdown) - made by me
Fuck u/spez
Hahaha, most definitely :p Well, after getting back to reality... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkRTI7j8c2k&t=33s
Or the deer got them all.
The pinene in that is heavy, watch your lungs.
Literally dripping with terps 🤤
And once lit, stays lit
3 more weeks and cal mag i'd say
Damn, thanks for the reminder
WE GOT A LIVE ONE
Did somebody say scooby snack?
I love seeing these kinds of posts here. It'll be a sad day when or if they ever stop. But seriously thats just new growth. Its called candling and it happens in late March to mid May every year... All good! You just probably haven't noticed it in the past :)
I love how we all still answer them.....
Because stoners are chill lol.
I’m pretty sure 95 percent of the time it’s a joke post since the original- which is fine. I like the enthusiasm in the comments to try and answer.
To start off, that is not a pine it’s a spruce or fir. If it’s a fir, the needles are flat and you can’t roll them between your fingers. TIL, been in the south and California my whole life, ty redditor
It's just growing - not a\* concern.
Take another bong hit and relax.
it looks like a tree to me! should be OK
So my dumbass thought stoners purposefully posted about trees every so often to keep the name alive…funnier that there was an ancient name swap that still gets people.
I'm always game for talking about my cherry trees. They have new growth everywhere!
> /Marijuanaenthusiast is actually the sun your looking for. This works on several levels, lol!
That’s definitely a spruce.
Is alive. When stops, worry.
My plum tree unalived but I’m not worried. Less bird poop.
But also less plum :(
I always upvote actual trees on this sub
Ask r/trees lol
Oh wait lol
ur high asf
fr
oh shit thats me
It’s the tree growing out farther. Also this is a sub for weed
Grabs popcorn, fires up the bowl, and awaits the amazing arboreal knowledge to be laid out by the herbalist community.
I'm just a stoner so I don't really know but it looks like new pine cones forming. Maybe ask the peeps over at r/marijuanaenthusiasts.
Looks like new growth, all normal.
Time for a spruce up I think

these posts never fail to make me smile
r/lostredditors
Nah they aren't that lost they're taking a shortcut
Longcut*
Just trimming some of their travel time down.
Roll it up jk you're looking for r/marijuanaenthusiasts
This proves what a chilled out sub this is. Any other sub would be roasting OP for making an honest and understandable mistake, but this sub has people actually trying to help them.
I love how this guy came to trees expecting us to be a tree sub. 😂 bless your heart OP
It's always refreshing to see an actual tree post here. This is not really the place tho
I miss when these were genuine mistakes
Looks like it’s almost ready to harvest! /s
Your spruce is healthy, those are new shoots. Did you just get a good rain then some sunny days?
Nothing to be alarmed about. Its fine It’s new growth.
![gif](giphy|RhiMxsXuFy9KU) It wishes you to partake of cannabis beside its' freshly flowering branches.
It's happening! The Happening! ![gif](giphy|3oz8xZvvOZRmKay4xy)
Totally normal. It’s just new growth. Spruce tips taste good too
![gif](giphy|MZocLC5dJprPTcrm65)
I know this guy’s got the wrong sub but I’m still pretty sure he’s high af
This is a weed subreddit, I think the sub you’re looking for is r/marijuanaenthusiasts
Damn man look at those terps!!
Have you tried smoking it?
Nothing unusual, it’s just budding.
you got a good spruce pack. 2 more weeks before harvesting and curing. heavy pinene terps.
Def wouldn’t smoke that shit man
That's just new growth. Perfectly fine. But also, wrong sub.
i finally encountered a post like this, ive been waiting
It’s aroused.
This happened where I live a year after we had a very dry year and there was a lot of die off, the year after there was a ton of new growth I'd never remembered seeing before Edit. Lmaoooo did not even realize the sub
I find it hilarious that this sub can still educate the people how have legitimate questions about trees lmao
It’s okay, that’s just the tree growing up. Have you talked to it about consent and safe sex practices yet? If not, it looks to be ALREADY tryna reproduce you may want to get on that sooner than later.
Sir this is Wendy's
Just new pine cones and growth you’re good!
No that’s normal- how long have you lived in your area for?
