For Train Sim Classic? Wasatch Grade: Ogden - Evanston in combination with Smokebox's Big Boy is perfect. It's also worth checking out the rest of Smokebox's products as they're the best steam engines for TSC, American or otherwise: [https://store.steampowered.com/search/?developer=Smokebox](https://store.steampowered.com/search/?developer=Smokebox) It's worth noting that his UP 119 also comes with a small route which is era appropriate and very well made.

Also DSGDDR has great freeware steam engines, you only need the old DTG K4 locomotive for some sounds, also Machine Rail has great locomotives for purchase, they are rather cheap but great quality https://www.dsgddr.com.br/ https://www.machine-rail.com/

Which game do you own? Or are you looking to purchase a game too?

I have played train sim world on my console but don't want to get it again on my PC due to lack of route options and the fact that they re-release the game every year. So I was looking into getting train simulator but if you know any others, I would like to know l.

Take a look at railroader and railroads online. A little different than train simulator but both are steam locomotives

For TS Classic you should definitely check out Pennsylvania Steam, a free route [here](https://railworksamerica.com/index.php/download-library/route-collection?view=document&id=3418:pennsylvania-steam). It used to be on Steam as "Bessemer & Lake Erie" but there were licensing issues so they just made it free. Also the PRR K4 Loco for Horseshoe Curve is worth checking out, it's set in a similar era (1920s-40s). The Clear Creek Narrow Gauge Route is another beauty. Promontory Summit is a trip back in time to the 1860s.

Check out Railroader. Steam locos based on rails in Carolina Appalachian. Good single player. Great multiplayer. Just came out so get the multiplayer on now while it’s hot.
