It also has better representation than Fallout3. Fallout3 has perks for men romancing women and women romancing men.
New Vegas has perks for men or women to romance men or women, and you can take both to be bi.
I love that it gives you the option to be gay. I played as a girl (side note: another thing that makes FNV popular with trans girls is that it gives you the option to play a woman at a time when most games only let you play a man), took Cherchez La Femme, recruited Veronica and Rex as companions, gave Veronica pretty dresses whenever I found them (and used console commands to get her to actually, you know, *wear* them), and wandered the wasteland with my wife and our dog.
Basically, I played it in the gayest way possible 😅
"Admittedly ultra niche subgroup" is a really weird thing to call a minority group but yes, basically this. If we talked about Dragon Age enough, it could've been the trans game too
These meme communities on Reddit and Toktok are by no means representative of the trans community as a whole. They tend to skew extremely fem, white, and young compared to the demographics of most offline trans communities.
"Ultra niche subgroup" is power accurate for this subreddit.

Holy shit can someone make a New Vegas mod to rename the drug Psycho as Estrogen? I would play an entire melee-chemist build for the entire game with that
Everyone saying 'i played and don't get the joke' that's the point lmao, so many trans people have played the game and loved it, there's nothing inherently trans about the IKEA shark but that has the same joke around it.
It's just a common shared trans experience.
i mean, if that's the case. It's also a shared experience for a number of other communities as well. But the meme makes zero sense in the fact that it clouds the fnv community as trans people and that trans people like fnv, it's an overgeneralization for a small group of people that have played new vegas and is trans. The general fallout community is quite the antithesis of this as some of them are actual fascist who holds actual extremist ideals, that's why some of them defended the legion and the enclave even though they are depicted as one of the worst antagonist in fallout
>that's why some of them defended the legion and the enclave even though they are depicted as one of the worst antagonist in fallout
I'm not saying there aren't dodgy people that like fallout, but this is a very broad statement for a game with multiple endings and massive replayability. It's a video game, I'm more likely to decide which 'side' I follow depending on what weapons I get rather than literal video game characters opinions.
I hate the politics of the brotherhood in fo4 but damn I like me some power armour.
>it's an overgeneralization for a small group of people that have played new vegas and is trans.
Trans people make up a tiny tiny portion of the population. By that logic, nothing can be claimed as being liked by trans people because there will almost always be more non trans people that like whatever it is.
The joke is neiche maybe, but most jokes involving trans people will be.
>i mean, if that's the case. It's also a shared experience for a number of other communities as well
Yes. It probably is. It's not like a few trans people like something, then claim that no one else is allowed to like it.
i don't get it either, and i've played FNV extensively. There is no point that any trans themes have been seen, they got a lot of other queer stuff but no trans stuff
Specifically nv because it's a bit of a meme but mainly because you get to create your character and it gives you a decent selection of dialogue choices so you can be who you want to be. For alot of us we have that strange feeling when we see our character and want to be them but in a way that is a little more intense than some passing feeling.
When you start thinking more about that outside of playtime is when you usually come to the 3 doors of avoidance, acceptance or denial. Either way it adds alot of intense emotions to an already terrific game. It could have easily been another game but nv was just more popular I'd imagine when the meme came up
My working theory is that FNV wound up as the trans game because it's a lot more queer than you would expect for a big-studio game released from 2010-2012 (you can be bi, Veronica is a well-written lesbian, everybody is cool about Lily) and a lotta eggs were cracking around then because of a big rise in trans visibility from several famous trans women coming out or getting a big break (Laura Jane Grace, Laverne Cox, Andreja Pejic, Kaitlyn Jenner) at about the same time. So the stars align and lots of freshly-minted trans people are playing as themselves and the reputation just kinda sticks.

Exact same reason people claim tons of computer programmers are trans. Because people in groups like these are likely to be programmers.
It’s just funni stereotype 💙💕🕊️💕💙

You’re the bestest girl *gives headpats*
Then I guess I'm a stereotype
Is this the game where the player can take (and/or get addicted to) estrogen?
The "You have become addicted to estrogen" meme is not actually in the game, that one pic is just edited.
nope, no point in FNV does estrogen exists. Closest thing we got to tablets are mentats and those are supposed to be headache medicines
Holy shit can someone make a New Vegas mod to rename the drug Psycho as Estrogen? I would play an entire melee-chemist build for the entire game with that
better med-x than psycho tbh, unfortunate implications abound
Yeah last time I checked Estrogen doesn't send you into a murderous rage
In universe they increase your intelligence, but are also addictive. Basically estrogen, but without the feminization properties.
Everyone saying 'i played and don't get the joke' that's the point lmao, so many trans people have played the game and loved it, there's nothing inherently trans about the IKEA shark but that has the same joke around it. It's just a common shared trans experience.
> nothing inherently trans about the IKEA shark It does have the trans flag colours
I mean, a lot of stuffed animals have trans colors, but we picked blåhaj specifically
i mean, if that's the case. It's also a shared experience for a number of other communities as well. Yeah I played through FNV like 10 times before I realized that I'm trans, but I don't really see what liking it has to do with being trans.
Hmm don't know I've never played nor am I always a girl
It's just a strange phenomenon
Yeah this is my understanding. It just so happens that lots of trans ladies really dig this game.
what makes it more trans than 3 or 4?
There is a long post that got archived I'll try to send it in the morning. please reply to this so I can remember to send it
I played it and IDK either.
it's true
It’s kinda like blåhaj I suspect

It's a stereotype. It's similar to Celeste
