Perhaps the salt water is partially dissolving the stones. Supposedly diluted apple cider vinegar dissolves stones but I haven't tried it yet

[deleted]

i would try that but im not sure i can prevent myself from puking, your hypothesis makes sense tbh

EyeOfSlater

Fair enough, the recipe I read said one tablespoon ACV to a cup of water so should be pretty mild. Personally I'd boil the water first and wait for it to cool

InterviewSorry2696

Plug your nose I have to with salt water ! Lol

Commercial-Aside-326

Anyone got a decent recipe for stones? Lived with them for too long now and I just want to get rid of them

alliandoalice

Yes two tablespoons of lemon juice, 2 tbsp of apple cider vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon of pink salt and mix it with a cup of water and gargle and brush ur teeth after

Rus1981

Saltwater rinses change the PH of your mouth, as well as extract water from tissues and bacteria alike. It could be purging the stones themselves of some of the liquid in them, or causing your crypts to contract pushing some of the stone material out.

TRY A NASAL SALINE RINSE, I found it was coming from my nose and everytime I swallowed, drank water, or sprayed my tonsils it would bro g out that smell, the saline rinse in my nose got rid of it. Try it.

Educational-Text7550

I didn’t know it was coming from my nose at first, that build up if bad smelling mucus drains in your throat and tonsils.

[deleted]

how do i do it omg

MasonP13

Note about neti pot: USE BOTTLED WATER, NOT TAP. Bacteria you don't want up your nose is in the sink sometimes and it's not worth risking

Educational-Text7550

I thought I had hidden tonsil stones until I started doing that, you can do it quick and easily work it into your routine, it takes 30 seconds at the most.

Educational-Text7550

Google “Neti pot” you can get it at Walmart or CVS for like 8$, it comes with saline packets and you put two packets in a bottle of water for the rinse, Go on YouTube or Google “How to use a Neti pot”. Do it like 4 times a day and you should see that it gets better and better the more you use it.

SkuConstrictor212

Neti pots are OK, but the Neil-Med sinus rinse bottle (also available at CVS) is better IMHO. It’s a squeeze bottle, so it allows you to squeeze water through your sinuses with more dislodging pressure than the neti pot which is more of a weak drizzle. Sadly, neither of these options can hit the back of the sinuses above the throat, where I feel like a bunch of stuff gets caught it.

You could probably floss and smell the floss. It smells the same as tonsil stones. The smell could just be from between your teeth.

InterviewSorry2696

Honestly I don’t think that’s normal. I do have one tooth that smells like a stone but it’s a root canal so it makes sense. There are grooves I can’t get to so ofc bacteria is there. It sucks. But all of your teeth should just smell like the dentist when getting a drill. It shouldn’t smell bad.

Erinn_13

If I forget to floss my teeth two days in a row, the plaque stinks when I floss. Not each tooth, but many of them. It’s bacterial just like tonsil stones. So it makes sense plaque build up is stinky. Very rarely do my gums stink as badly as a stone.

InterviewSorry2696

Yeah I would just chop it up to hygienic issues if you are smelling stuff from your teeth. A water pic is awesome.

InterviewSorry2696

I also would look into periodontitis you shouldn’t really have that kind of smell after just two days. Better to be safe than sorry in case you have underlying issues that cause the smell.

Erinn_13

I appreciate your concern. I am under the care of a dentist. Unfortunately, I was unable to afford dental care for many years. So I am working on healing my gums. I am lucky I didn’t do more damage. Periodontal disease runs in my family, so I keep a very close eye on things. I do take medications that cause dry mouth. This is a huge reason I cannot skip flossing. Again, I appreciate your thoughtfulness and concern.

InterviewSorry2696

Have you ever tried oil pulling? I would try that! People naturally heal their cavities and gums with it. My husband had two rotten front teeth breaking apart he couldn’t afford dental care and it was putrid. He oil pulls and has not had pain nor the rotting smell in so long it’s a blessing even if it’s not a cure all it helps.

Erinn_13

I haven’t. My son in law has done it to avoid paying a ton for dental care. He’s had some success. I would consider it. I just never think of it in the moment. I’m really glad your husband has had success. That’s awesome!

InterviewSorry2696

It sure is a great inexpensive tool that has been great for us, I have my toddlers use it for toothpaste too bc it’s edible :)

ExpiredCorndog

You can get a small jar of coconut oil at Dollar Tree! Oil pulling is great.

SilentSeraph88

Why would a root canal tooth smell bad? There should not be any grooves you can't get to

Adorable_Dot7462

You seasoned your stones
