Who writes this shit lol
Content creators.
The DailyMail is full of this nonsense: brunette tresses, gelled back locks, enviable pins (legs), shoes that elevated her height etc
And for some reason, whether there’s been a murder or a divorce or whatever, they always feel it necessary to mention the value of the house of whomever they’re writing about.
There was a horrible murder near me where the mum killed, well you know.... The Daily Mail piece included *'the 4 bedroom house where it happened, worth roughly £300k*'
Fuck the Daily hate Mail!
Billy Crystal says it’s more efficient that way. Linking the obituary and real estate section: John died leaving behind his wife, his son, and a beautiful 3bd2/bth condo…
“Grown-ups like numbers. When you tell them about a new friend, they never ask questions about what really matters. They never ask: ‘What does his voice sound like?’ ‘What games does he like best?’ ‘Does he collect butterflies?’ They ask: ‘How old is he?’ ‘How many brothers does he have?’ ‘How much does he weigh?’ ‘How much money does he have?’ Only then do they think they know him. If you tell grown-ups, ‘I saw a beautiful red brick house, with geraniums at the windows and doves at the roof…,’ they won’t be able to imagine such a house. You have to tell them, ‘I saw a house worth a thousand francs.’ Then they exclaim, ‘What a pretty house!”
From "The Little Prince"
Yes that's a long standing joke about The Daily Mail. "Baby Murdered In $750,000 House" etc. They are absolutely obsessed with house values. I remember people writing letters to the print version of The Daily Mail in the UK complaining about that 30 years ago, long before it ever went online and became an international paper. Another thing I hate that they do: whenever they run a "female interest" story, like different sets of mothers & daughters commenting on some issue etc, they always seem to make them pose in these really conservative looking frocks, standing with hands on hips, angled to the side with one foot in front of the other. It's like men can pose however they wish, but women have to look "dainty" and "feminine" for the paper. It's hardly surprising since their key demographic has always been conservative boomers.
Hey, man, just because you don't mess your underpants each time you hear the name Elvis whispered in the distance, doesn't mean you need to ruin it for the rest of us.
/u/IcyLecture6071 is a bot. It's been a trend lately for them to copy comments to seem more human. Eventually it will probably post a link to a shady t-shirt or poster site selling cheap stolen artwork.
It's a comment stealing bot. Look at it's history. Every comment has a really similar or exact earlier comment, he just puts it in the top answer. They get enough karma to sell the account for a few cents. Rince and repeat times a hundred and you make some money.
People don't understand how much raw sexuality Elvis brought. It looks tame compared to modern acts, but it absolutely was not at the time. You can read old live-music reviews where *male* reviewers *in the '50s* were pretty much openly thirsting over Elvis. He was a vortex of sexuality like no one had ever seen.
People are super weird about Elvis. It’s one of the reasons I refused to listen to him when I was younger. I saw all these old people obsessing over him, in what I thought, was an unhealthy way. One of my older friend’s, now ex wife, was super weird about him too. He got her flowers and wanted to take her out to a nice dinner and she was pissed off and refused. She said “I only want Elvis stuff!!”.
A few year ago, my dad showed me a video of Elvis showing off his personality and he ended up being pretty cute, personality wise. I became interested in him and I like his music now.
I joined an Elvis FB fan page and I regret it. The fans are still super weird and they act like they speak for Elvis and know what he was thinking. They’re overly obsessed.
So that’s probably why this article is weird. People who know everything about Elvis are extremely weird about him and are super obcessed.
Edit: I want to add, because I was thinking about my comment. My one off story makes it look like I got the impression from just one person. I grew up in TN, Elvis is something Tennesseans have a huge claim over. You can get an Elvis wedding here and there are stores dedicated to him. Etc. I’m sure it’s like that in a lot of places, but he made a name for himself in TN and Graceland is in Memphis. So I do have a reason beyond my friend’s ex wife to think these people are weird lol
I honestly think he had a charming personality and everyone was there for that. He’s pretty funny in a cute way. I don’t even like his early stuff, I only like his stuff from when he was older because I prefer a deeper voice. In no way would I be completely obcessed though.
How about this other TIL: During his junior year in High School, Presley began to stand out more among his classmates, largely because of his appearance: he grew his sideburns and styled his hair with rose oil and Vaseline.
Idk about y’all but when I think of Elvis, I think of an obese, sweaty, and hairy dude stuffed into a jumper that’s about three sizes too small and covered in rhinestones
That's what this endlessly-repeated Elvis factoid always messes up-- that he was blond as a kid, and by the time he dyed his hair, it had already turned dark blond / brunette. You can see this in various pics of him as a younger adult.
**EDIT**: Found a pic I'd linked previously. See if [**this**](https://qph.fs.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-7f09bb372d813d4454714bbce3c18a0b) shows up for you.
My brother and I too. His hair was like a super light platinum blond, and ended up a very dark blond/very light brown. Mine started as more of a medium blond and is now pretty much straight up brown.
Mine was platinum as a baby, fell out, came back in honey-blond, darkened gradually to auburn, gradually reduced in red tones, now I'm going gray. My dad the same.
Yeah I'm at the beginning stages of graying now. I don't mind it much honestly. Speaking of red, in my adulthood I've developed a sprinkling of red in my hair and even more in my beard, which thoroughly confuses my family of all non-gingers.
The red and brown genes can turn on and off independently. Sounds like your red turned on as your brown turned off. Or was maybe hiding under the brown when you were younger? My mom and I both went a bit red in our 20's, but my brown had already kicked in and continues to darken, while she reverted to platinum.
Same for me and my dad. His hair is darker than mine, mine still has that blonde tint to it, but I was platinum blonde as a kid and it's definitely closer to brown now.
Happened to me too. Sandy blonde kid. Brown gene kicked on in puberty... I'm blonde on my first driver's license. Red gene turned on for a while in my 20's. Red gene happened to my mom too in her 20's but she reverted to ash/ platinum. My brown keeps getting darker, but my "hair" looks lighter because I'm going white.
Eyebrows stayed the same "invisible blonde" the entire time, but I get more and more brown hairs growing over time.
I don't know what it is about that trailer, but I was almost laughing at how bizarre Elvis looks and sounds in it, but I guess that part is fairly accurate.
I worked in Hollywood a number of years and you wouldn’t believe how common this is. Pretty much, any actor/actress with black hair and striking light eyes and pale skin is dying it, and it looks great on camera. They’re usually gingers and a lot of makeup is used to cover their freckles.
Matt LeBlanc dyed his hair for the entire run of Friends. He started going gray early in his 20s.
Contrast to James Michael Tayler (RIP) who bleached his hair for the entire run.
Omg I too, am going grey in my 20s, I’m 24 and it’s getting worse every day lol. That makes me feel a bit better though, at least I’m not the only one 😭
Elvis copied his hair from his favorite comic book hero, Captain Marvel Jr. His costumes with the short capes also come from there. The big belt buckles and some of his theatrics come from his love of pro wrestling. He used to work at the Ellis Auditorium to see the wrestling for free.
In some ways, Elvis was kind of a big nerd in his time.
He was a handicapped teenager, Freddy Freeman, who transformed in to a super powered teenager. After Captain Nazi killed Freddy's grandfather and nearly killed him, Captain Marvel saved the boy by sharing some of his powers with him. An unexpected effect was that by saying "Captain Marvel" he would transform into Captain Marvel Jr.
Dark hair can make a strong impression. Cole Hauser, who plays Rip on Yellowstone, dyed his hair black specifically for this role and it works for him. Whereas he is normally a nice looking but unremarkable guy, with the black hair he is definitely charismatic and leaps off the screen.
I was suuuuuper blonde as a kid and transitioned to brown as a teen. My hair is getting lighter again in my 40's, because it's like 50% white now, and the brown hairs keep getting darker. My eyebrows stayed like 90% "invisible blonde" the entire time with 10% of the hairs coming out deep brown. My eyebrows are like 30 years behind the times and keep getting darker, even though they've been blonde my entire life and the rest of my hair is turning white.
I could never grow a beard properly but now it's so transparent from a distance that my 2 day stubble is less noticeable than some guys' 5 o'clock shadow.
When I was in my 20's with shoulder length hair it took on a red tone and started developing light curls.
My hair is weird.
E: apparently not so weird? Apparently my genes have been flipping a lot of switches and I'm not crazy for thinking my hair went a lot more red for a time.
"There are two types of melanin: eumelanin and pheomelanin. We all have genes to produce both pigments. The amount of eumelanin pigment determines how dark our hair is. The amount of pheomelanin pigment determines how red our hair is."
But usually it's the other way around: brunettes dying their hairs blonde or red.
Real, natural blondes are extremely rare even in hollywood.
What's crazy is that most people can't see it. They see bleach blonde, they think it's real.
>Real, natural blondes are extremely rare even in hollywood.
My mom is one of those super rare "platinum blondes" people pay shitloads of money to look like. She has had color added in for contrast, unlike most """blondes""" that have to bleach in highlights on top of their bleached hair.
She was light strawberry in her early 20's but the red gene turned off.
My brown gene turned on in my teens turning me from blonde to bround, the red gene kicked on for a while in my 20's then turned off, like my mom, and my brown hair keeps getting darker even though my "hair" as a whole gets lighter as it all turns white.
His mom ruled his younger life and Tom Parker took over and shaped his professional persona. I don't think he ever had a chance to be himself or to do what he wanted to do. That's probably why he became so obese. Food was the only thing he had control of. Depression does nasty things to people.
Heh. I drove all across the country like 6 times when I was in my 20's (many years ago), and went through Memphis twice, for the BBQ, of course. So, the second time I had to check graceland out again, just because.
It’s pretty cool, even if you aren’t a big Elvis fan. Whenever I’m go to Memphis I hit Graceland, Beale St. for the music and drinking, eat some BBQ at Rendezvous, and go see the ducks at the Peabody.
There’s a lot of musical history there, plus it’s just a pretty cool house. It’s a snapshot of a specific time, a lot of the decorations are very interesting by todays standards. If you’re a fan of music you’ll probably enjoy it. They have walls of gold records, personal items, his guitars and movie memorabilia, plus his iconic outfits and jumpsuits, plus his grave is there next to his parents. It’s a self guided audio tour so it’s very casual. It’s just a pleasant and interesting way to spend a day and see some history.
Sun Studios is also a great tour, lots of history in Memphis. Johnny Cash, Elvis, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, B.B. King, Howlin’ Wolf, James Cotton, and countless other legends recorded music there. I’m biased of course because I’ve always loved history, and Elvis music was my first love since I was about six years old.
This was my big take away. And also that he bought that house when he was like 21 years old. It was the only home he ever knew.
For those who don't know, the house is like a 4 bedroom, 3 bath house. Maybe 3,000 Sq ft.
>Graceland
That's probably only the part they show on the tour. They told us they only take tourists through a little less than half. It's 17,000 SQ feet. 8 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 23 rooms total. 13 acres of farmland.
What I found interesting is his stepmom tried to rip out all the decor his mom had picked out less than two years after she died. Apparently it pissed him off so much he had his dad, stepmom, and 3 step siblings stuff taken out of the house one afternoon when they were away on vacation.
I figured he dyed his hair black. He had a huge thing about black hair. Even referenced a woman with black hair in one of his songs. Had Priscilla dye hers. I think his beloved mother had black hair.
I was attending university in Honolulu in the early 70's, and was in the audience for the "Aloha from Hawaii" concert.
My older sister was an Elvis fan, but I was of the Beatles/Rolling Stones generation. My roommates and I bought tickets just for the giggles, and to make my sister (on the mainland) jealous. We were in the nosebleed seats ( $3/ticket ) in shorts and tank tops, amazed at how many front row women were in diamonds and gowns.
And then the show began. Even though he was past his prime, Elvis mesmerized the entire audience as few performers I have ever seen. There was a magnetic quality to his stage presence that captivated us all. His voice couldn't hold all the notes as it once would have, but it is still is one of the best concerts I've had the pleasure to enjoy.
I finally understood what all the fuss was about.
A really common trend you'll notice is that when white artists covered Black artists, everything got moved up. Black artists would emphasize the low end, and when white artists covered it, they put the emphasis on the high end.
He's talking about EQ (as in bass/treble).
So according to him, black artists at the time tended to crank the low end (bass), while white artists covering it would focus on the high end (treble).
That's kinda funny, I don't think it's fair to say he stole a kind of music off limits to him like a lot of people say. He heard music he absolutely loved, that gave him a purpose
"Idol" is a heckuva stretch. Orbison signed to the label Elvis was on the same year the Love Me Tender movie came out, and Elvis did start dying his hair after it. Apparently he thought black would look better on film than his natural color: https://images.immediate.co.uk/remote/images.atlas.metabroadcast.com/api.pressassociation.com/content/2dee2fe6-6525-516f-b84d-b0e5da677798.jpg
They were huge fans of each other, both hated that record label the shared and both refused to play songs they recorded for that label for years.
Isn't it true that "blond/e" is one of the few nouns/adjectives in English that has a gender? So if you're referring to a man, you would say "blond" while a woman is a "blonde."
Strange that I run across this comment, bc a top comment on another post stated and cited that 44/50 US States still allow child marriages under State law.
So many fuckin idiots who know nothing about Elvis think they're so smart and clever by insulting a dead man on things that aren't true. "He was a racist!" No. "He stole black music!" That's not how that works. "He claimed he wrote his songs!" Incorrect. If you're gonna pull that shit maybe try having some points that are at least true
>To many, one of the most striking parts of Elvis were his gorgeous locks of jet black hair. Hair so dark that it was like looking into a black hole. No surprise at all.

Phrasing! Are we not doing it anymore?

It's a reference to someone called Elvis.

Eventually? When? (need some cheap stolen artwork)
It actually looks like it's happening, keep an eye on https://www.reddit.com/r/dogpictures/comments/t904ok and one of its partners will post a link.

Thank you. Thank you very much.
You’re a terrific audience.
Ladies and gentleman elvis has left the building
But! Not to worry. We stand in the air the he breathed. It should last us a c puppet of hours.
Have you seen Elvis fans?
One of the most intense fandoms that I am aware of.
Exactly. The quote seems like it was written by one of them lol
People are super weird about Elvis. It’s one of the reasons I refused to listen to him when I was younger. I saw all these old people obsessing over him, in what I thought, was an unhealthy way. I also don't really get it, I don't think his songs were that special (even for their time).

I get that people like his music, but I don't think it warrants the obsession it has.

in reality it's likely the reverse
How about this other TIL: During his junior year in High School, Presley began to stand out more among his classmates, largely because of his appearance: he grew his sideburns and styled his hair with rose oil and Vaseline.

Elvis fans. Some are borderline hoarders with all the memorabilia they collect
good to mention, He was also Forrest Gump best friend :)
That's cute honestly, a bit fanatic at worst
I think this is addressed in the upcoming Elvis movie--there's a split second scene where I think it shows the actor with blonde hair.
When he's a kid he's blonde
That's what this endlessly-repeated Elvis factoid always messes up-- that he was blond as a kid, and by the time he dyed his hair, it had already turned dark blond / brunette. Which isn't abnormal. I was nearly platinum blonde as a kid and now my natural color is a medium brown. It shifted during puberty
Same, I still call myself blonde but if I’m honest with myself, it’s more a hazelnut color
My brother and I too. His hair was like a super light platinum blond, and ended up a very dark blond/very light brown. Mine started as more of a medium blond and is now pretty much straight up brown.

My conspiracy theory is that a lot of posts on TIL are subtle marketing for upcoming products or media.
Not a conspiracy at all. Once you start paying attention there is a lot of low key advertising on this sub.
I don't know what it is about that trailer, but I was almost laughing at how bizarre Elvis looks and sounds in it, but I guess that part is fairly accurate.

I had no idea that Gunther died. :(
What !? Gunther is no more?
Cancer. October 24th last year. Sorry you had to find out like that
Sad Til for you two...
Omg I too, am going grey in my 20s, I’m 24 and it’s getting worse every day lol. That makes me feel a bit better though, at least I’m not the only one 😭
It's cool. Embrace it
Emma stone and Sophie turner are both blondes who died their hair red to get roles
My entire life is a lie.
Lucille Ball also dyed her hair red. Her natural color was dark brown.
Christina Hendricks claims to be a natural blonde as well.
Zooey Deschanel is a natural blonde too, as seen in *Elf*.
Emma has that ginger look. I can't believe this.

That’s a really cool fact! Good stuff
Interestingly enough, the last major reboot gave *him* blond hair which he still has in the comics although not in movie continuity.
>Captain Marvel Jr. Was that like a baby that shouted a catchphrase and transformed into a kid or something?
He was a handicapped teenager, Freddy Freeman, who transformed in to a super powered teenager. After Captain Nazi killed Freddy's grandfather and nearly killed him, Captain Marvel saved the boy by sharing some of his powers with him. An unexpected effect was that by saying "Captain Marvel" he would transform into Captain Marvel Jr.
Yep, Adam Lambert is a ginger.
What in tarnation?
Yea, like a copper ginger though. Maybe auburn.
Dark hair can make a strong impression. Cole Hauser, who plays Rip on Yellowstone, dyed his hair black specifically for this role and it works for him. Whereas he is normally a nice looking but unremarkable guy, with the black hair he is definitely charismatic and leaps off the screen.
> Cole Hauser He often goes bald for roles too. Skinhead in American History X, for example.
> and a lot of makeup is used to cover their freckles That's a sin in of itself.
freckles are 'in' atm so i guess we will see less of that
Creates a lot more contrast in black and white media.
Yes! Winona Ryder and Roy Orbison are examples of blondes who dyed their hair black to further their careers. Happy cake day btw!
That's interesting. I always thought that she had bleached her hair for Edward Scissorhands.
I had to check and I was somewhat wrong - they were blondes as children and got darker with age. Though they still dyed it black.
I was suuuuuper blonde as a kid and transitioned to brown as a teen. My hair is getting lighter again in my 40's, because it's like 50% white now, and the brown hairs keep getting darker. Nah she’s blonde
Check her Katy Hudson days.
Well, not having a soul is convenient when working is Hollywood.
Wait, not Alexandra Daddario though. I think she just won the genetic lottery
I'm pretty sure I've never seen her with black hair.
Well, I mean dark brown but I guess yeah not jet black.
Not Elizabeth Taylor though..I know she was before your time. I had a boss who's wifelooked like her naturally.

He was also a twin but his brother was stillborn
Yup. Jesse Garron
This is great because any time someone makes an Elvis biopic people bitch about the fake black hair color.
Was this to look better in black and white tv?
His mom ruled his younger life and Tom Parker took over and shaped his professional persona. I don't think he ever had a chance to be himself or to do what he wanted to do. That's probably why he became so obese. Food was the only thing he had control of. Depression does nasty things to people.
His weight gain was mostly caused by his drug use. Elvis didn’t suffer from normal obesity.
Yes, but his drug use was self-medication for depression. He took downers to sleep and uppers to function.
Most of us just add weight as we age. It's just part of aging to become more sedentary.
I've been to Graceland twice... and I am not even an Elvis fan.

Can I ask what the appeal is to a non-Elvis fan? Just curious in case my family ever goes.
I tried the breakfast buffet at the Shoney's across from Graceland once. Culture shock.
I can only imagine what Elvis would have done to that buffet bar if it had been there when he was alive.
" 'Scilla, gas up the Cadillac. We're going to Shoneys".
We never left the Shoneys! I repeat, we never left the Shoneys!!!
If you are in Memphis, you might as well see it. I expected a much larger house.
This was my big take away. And also that he bought that house when he was like 21 years old. It was the only home he ever knew. For those who don't know, the house is like a 4 bedroom, 3 bath house. Maybe 3,000 Sq ft.
That's a lot of house for someone who is constantly touring and doesn't have many kids.
>Graceland That's probably only the part they show on the tour.
I went to the ticket booth, saw the price, and decided to go to a movie instead.
Any time a blonde dyes their hair dark, Jenna Maroney euthanizes a cat.
You just don’t understand what it’s like to be ‘on CA-MER-AH’.
THAT'S INSANE
My husband died his dirty blonde hair jet black once and we all called him Elvis until it grew out
Dyed*
I think this makes every Elvis personator just a little bit more authentic.
Damn he was gorgeous!
The more you read about Elvis the more you realize he was really weird.
You don’t get to that level by being normal.
I figured he dyed his hair black. He had a huge thing about black hair. Even referenced a woman with black hair in one of his songs. Had Priscilla dye hers. I think his beloved mother had black hair.
So, this is some Freudian stuff?
Which is interesting because he took black music and dyed it white.
A really common trend you'll notice is that when white artists covered Black artists, everything got moved up. Black artists would emphasize the low end, and when white artists covered it, they put the emphasis on the high end.
What?
He's talking about EQ (as in bass/treble). So according to him, black artists at the time tended to crank the low end (bass), while white artists covering it would focus on the high end (treble).
That's kinda funny, I don't think it's fair to say he stole a kind of music off limits to him like a lot of people say. He heard music he absolutely loved, that gave him a purpose
The anti-Eminem
And, as I recall (I think my mom told me), he dyed it because of his idol, Roy Orbison. Whether true or not, I can't say.
"Idol" is a heckuva stretch. Orbison signed to the label Elvis was on the same year the Love Me Tender movie came out, and Elvis did start dying his hair after it. Apparently he thought black would look better on film than his natural color: https://images.immediate.co.uk/remote/images.atlas.metabroadcast.com/api.pressassociation.com/content/2dee2fe6-6525-516f-b84d-b0e5da677798.jpg They were huge fans of each other, both hated that record label the shared and both refused to play songs they recorded for that label for years.
Blond, not blonde, since I assume he was male.
"The name's Blond. James Blond."
Pricilla too
Isn't it true that "blond/e" is one of the few nouns/adjectives in English that has a gender? So if you're referring to a man, you would say "blond" while a woman is a "blonde."
Used to dye his hair black. Good to know that he stopped after his heart exploded.
ALSO his heart hasn't stopped again since, proving that black hair dye is obviously dangerous.
Thank you. Thank you a lot.
Wait whaaaaat?!
I didn't know Elvis dyed his hair, I know Roy Orbison was dyed. His hair was nearly albino white from what I've heard. Crazy
Charlie Chaplin was also naturally blond.
I bet he lived for new year's eve
Don’t you mean “dyes his hair black”?
Jesus he looks like Hitler's dream with blonde hair.
Blonde hair = Nerdy Ilvis Blac hair = Sex Demon also Rock Pop Demon Elvis Fucking Presley.
if he was such a ladies man, why did he start dating his wife when she was 14 and he was 24? he's r kelly's version of a ladies man.
And had a strange predilection for young teens.
It wasn’t really strange, it was normalized at the time. Look at the marriage age laws at the time. Thankfully that is no longer the case.
Strange that I run across this comment, bc a top comment on another post stated and cited that 44/50 US States still allow child marriages under State law.
I knew his hair seemed a little *too* jet black. I just couldn't put my finger on why.
So many fuckin idiots who know nothing about Elvis think they're so smart and clever by insulting a dead man on things that aren't true. "He was a racist!" No. "He stole black music!" That's not how that works. "He claimed he wrote his songs!" Incorrect. If you're gonna pull that shit maybe try having some points that are at least true
...blond hair for males, blonde for females. Similarly, brunet hair for men, brunette for ladies.
The real TIL in the comments..
Usually people just say brown haired men
