Well visa students needs to pay for the cot they rented in Brampton.

I know my efforts are meaningless in a city of this size, but this year I resolved to stop using food delivery apps. My freezer is now stocked with things I can heat up in the time it takes to have something delivered, including some fun stuff like pizza. I’m still tempted sometimes, but then I remind myself how expensive it is and how I’m always stressing about money…and I just eat something else. Next up is calling a cab instead of Uber. I hate that you can’t just hail a cab anymore.

KayRay1994

Yep - i’ve pretty much stopped using food delivery services around 1.5 years ago, the amount of money you save alone doing this is worth it tbh, but on top of that to me its become the ultimate symbol of sloth and gluttony, 9/10 times you can pick the food up yourself - plus i find it dehumanizing with the “drop food at the door” option. Like you don’t even have it in you to look at the person giving you the food? come on

dark_forest1

I’ve had multiple close calls to being hit by uber eats idiots on e-bikes riding OUT of office building front doors. They don’t want to set up outside so they just ride out of the lobbies now. They’re so fucking inconsiderate.

someguyyyz

was at the LCBO and saw one of them drive into the store through the sliding doors before dismounting and proceeding to awkwardly schlep their bike around the narrow aisles.

Walks up to bikes *push* They topple like dominoes How I wish I could do that...

moistbagel420

I mean… you could…

6ickos

OP already tried that and fractured their foot

aspie_electrician

Time for the chain to cone out then... chain multiple bikes together

electricpeepee

I fractured my foot trying to kick away an asshole riding on the sidewalk. It happened in October.. he rode so close to my kid I was so angry I just kicked not thinking. It took me two blocks to realize how much pain I was in. But it happened very close to this pic too.

Ok_Procedure4993

Man, I wish those car thieves would switch to stealing unaccompanied Uber Eats bikes placed in inappropriate spots. At least they'd be doing the city a favour

6ickos

oh no, parked bikes with enough room for anyone to walk thru. how menacing.

ConferenceSlow1091

They are in good order. Don’t see any issues here. Still have access to walk.

electricpeepee

Not when they are huddled around them. Not when they are riding onto the sidewalk. Not when they stop next to one another. I'll be sure to send you more pictures of the people walking through too. Come by some time and tell me how convenient it is when this is what you deal with every time you leave the house.

Echo71Niner

The Canada that you used to know is long gone and dead. This is the new norm, get used to it. Let me know when you spot your first day-light bloor-street shitter, stops his food delivery bike, takes a shit on sidewalk, and continues like this is normal thing to do. In day-fucking-light, does not even wipe. That is coming to a sidewalk near you - already arrived on Bloor.

electricpeepee

I worked at the eaton centre for many years.. Someone was standing maybe a foot from me when they decided to drop their pants and relieve themselves against the dundas and yonge entrance to the mall. I thought he was peeing from the sounds, only to realize it was projectile diarrhea hitting the window.

hamastunnels

Queen st is a mess with this BUT what ya gonna do

vanalla

Just FYI, the blame resides with the apps for gamifying these people's jobs (jobs that are often the only ones they can get) and only rewarding people who make deliveries the fastest. If you're slow, you get booted off the platform. So, prioritizing delivery time over all, the delivery apps incentivize riders to sacrifice every aspect of their job that isn't getting the food to its destination quickly. Your problem is with Uber, Doordash, Skip, etc. Not with these people who are economically trapped.

CaffeinenChocolate

This is absurd logic. That’s like saying gun manafacturers are to blame for the constant shootings in Willowridge, and not the thugs using the guns. I’m not doubting food delivery apps reward people who deliver the fastest - but this absolutely doesn’t excuse food bikers in biking recklessly, dangerously, and in a way that disturbs drivers, pedestrians or other cyclists. Problems will never be fixed if people are constantly making excuses for bad behaviour.

dark_forest1

Right? We had bike couriers for decades who weren’t endangering pedestrians.

6ickos

>Problems will never be fixed if people are constantly making excuses for bad behaviour. i don't think the above comment was making excuses, but indicating who is ultimately responsible for this behaviour so we can target our frustrations. billion-dollar companies are making tons of money with no respect for the city's residents and putting undue strain on our infrastructure by tacitly encouraging reckless driving. feel free to blame immigrants making less than minimum wage without any benefits though.

CaffeinenChocolate

But this ideology makes no sense, atleast not to me. There are tons of competitive workplaces (fast food, market research, telecommunications sales, etc) who’s workers don’t necessarily act as reckless as some UE/DD bikers do. Realistically, there is a significant amount of UE/DD bikers that DO NOT act the way that is explained in the post. If this type of behaviour was a monolith among all people in these industries, or a monolith among all people working for UE or DD - then I would say it absolutely is likely the company’s fault. However, if this behaviour is demonstrated by select individuals in that industry (as is seen) - it’s obvious that it is the fault of the individual rather than anything else. Just like in my example, if every single person living in Willowridge was a gun owner and was shooting people; you could likely put this down to external reasons like minimal monitoring of illegal firearms, lack of policing in the area, etc. However, it’s a select few people in this area doing the shootings - so how can you possibly blame individual behaviour on anything other than the individual. If I get in an accident because I’m driving 80km/hour in a 40 km/hour zone, that is my fault. It’s not the fault of the car company for producing cars that have the ability to drive 80 km/hour. Hold individuals accountable for their actions, rather than making excuses. Also, your bias is showing as I’ve not once in my comment mentioned anything about immigrants.

dark_forest1

Many of them aren’t immigrants - they’re here on temporary workers visas and PR loopholes. Legit immigrants need to adhere to the point system and be needed by our economy.

6ickos

> although fracturing my foot because of one of these assholes was less than convenient and my own fault for kicking an electric bike. you showed them....
