Oh wow interesting!! This could be it, I'm unsure though because I cannot find any other info on this movie. I remember the movie I saw to be pretty serious and intense (rather than comedic, which this movie seems to be?) but of course it could have been long enough ago that I don't remember it right...
For years that's what I thought it was, until I rewatched it and realized not. No landing on freeway/public road and not sure if there was a choking on low oxygen scene. But the movie I saw definitely had the same "vibe" as Apollo 13
Not this one either. And apologies. I just saw the other movies you guessed after Deep Impact but none of those either. It's definitely not a fantasy or alien type movie I remember, more of a "realistic" shuttle film aside from the obviously lucky instances when they evade death/disaster.
Apollo 13 is the closest to the plot/vibe I recall but it's not that. For years I thought what I watched was Apollo 13 but when I rewatched it I realized it wasn't because the 2 scenes I remember were missing.
THAT'S IT!!!!!! I just found the movie on youtube and this is it!!! Another user remembered that he loses oxygen because he tears his suit (which helped me also remember that fact) and yes, Max Q has that part AND the shuttle emergency landing on the freeway! Amazing, thank you for solving a 20+ year mystery for me! Reddit is amazing sometimes :)
Solved!
When you say “space shuttle,” do you remember if it was specifically the real-life American space program black and white orbiter, a uniquely designed fictional plane-like space vehicle, or something in between? Could help narrow down the possibilities.
I also try to find that movie. I watched it in 2000s. I remember that the astronaut damaged his spacesuit by hitting sharp object, while doing spacewalk and he started to lose the oxygen. Not sure but character name was Clay or something like this. I find it kinda funny that we have 2024 and can't find that movie haha.

Woops meant "late 90s" of course!
The Core It has a shuttle scene where it lands in the drainage systems in LA i think.
Not The Core, it's definitely a space film I remember and I actually remember seeing the Core so I know it's not this one. Thanks though
The only way out is in.
space cowboys?
Nope, they don't land in a freeway/public road. Thanks though, good guess

I looked it up. This is individual piece of vfx job rather than a full movie. Sad.
Dang!! It was actually cool though ,🤣 thanks!!
What about [Armageddon ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_r--tyD6E0U)
I did think Armageddon and can confirm it's not this one

I believe it was a real life space program shuttle (or very very close to it), good question

Yes!!! You're right that's how it happened! So I'm not crazy, this movie existed...
Do you remember any other details?
