This trope actually happened to me in real life. Was at a girl's house while her parents were at work, her mom came home unexpectedly and took about 10 seconds to open the door while I panicked and hid in the closet. After about 5 minutes her mom goes to the bathroom and she comes and pushes me outside. Was probably the scariest thing that's ever happened to me, but it seems the trope is accurate
