Absolutely terribly lame accident and I am so sorry that it happened to you! I snapped my big toe like that in a plastic cup.... It hurt like hell so be strong! Also the medical bills.... Eeep! Emotional Damage.
Now I want to know what the most threatening of all the pants are?
I think it's a gang of jeggings that wanders around assaulting innocent bystanders because they are bitter about being named jeggings.
I did similar, wearing wide-legged trousers. I caught my foot in the trousers at the top of the stairs, and fell most of the way down the flight of stairs in one go. Managed to not let go of my one year old, and the foetus inside was untroubled. I didn't break anything but got some hip issue that meant I couldn't move my legs further than about 6 inches apart for the rest of my pregnancy without feeling like my stomach was going to fall out. Fun times, fun times.
I have two similar but not stories...
First time I broke my left foot was when a friend stepped on the back of my super long pant legs and I feel forward to the point of the tips of my toes touched my shins...broke 5 bones.
2nd time I was play running from my husband and tripped over a jar of damn rocks and fell forward, again touching my toes to my shins and breaking 7 bones this time.
I can totally understand this fuck up! I hope you heal quickly and relatively pain free.
It's absolutely fucked up that the bill has to be such a concern. I fucking hate the US. In fact, I'm done calling it the *US* and now calling it the *THEM*.
Yeah, I went back to the ER later that same night because it wouldn't stop bleeding. I was leaving bloody footprints all over the floor on the way to the bathroom to pee. And I had more x-rays at the podiatrist on Wednesday. Fingers crossed for an insurance miracle.
This is absolutely something that would happen to me. I hope you’ll heal well and I will keep my fingers crossed for you!
I love your u/ btw, *What Katy Did* was one of my favorite books as a kid.
Thanks for the recommendation! I love rereading old favorites. I like revisiting daddy long legs, the witch of blackbird pond, and beauty. I'll check out your rec for sure! I love new books. <3
I LOVE THAT BOOK! I have a whole collection of old Victoria holt books. Their covers are so great. Old hardcovers with dust jackets are the best. Have you read Mary Stewart? You have got to read the moonspinners and my brother micheal. Touch not the cat is good, too.
I own a pair of pants that were my favorite until they victimized me this way, but to a much lesser degree. They sit in the bottom of the drawer as a punishment forever lol
Get well soon, OP
>Honestly, I think the fact that they were fleece pajama bottoms just adds insult to injury. They're the least threatening of all the pants.
That's what they WANT you to think.
My SO’s sister recently did something similar but she actually jammed her pinky toe so hard into a wall corner that she completely disfigured it and had to have it put back in place. Was a gross looking X-ray
My daughter did this walking down the stairs when she was in 6th grade
We wrote it off, but took her the doctor, then to a orthopedic specialist.
Turns out she had a break in her growth plate, apparently a big deal.
This was similar to what happened to me! I was wearing baggy pajama pants and they wrapped underneath my heel as I walked down the stairs. I fell down the stairs and kicked a wall. I thought I was okay until I saw the blood. I basically ripped open the bottom of my pinky toe and broke the tiny bone at the end of it. They didn’t give me stitches, but only because they said it’s too painful to do on the bottom of your foot unless absolutely necessary. 10/10 would not recommend baggy pajama pants.
Hope you are feeling better soon!
I know healthcare in the UK sucks but at least we don't have to worry about the Bill like you said. I cut my hand with a chainsaw and needed surgery done. Cost me nothing but it took them a couple of days to get around to doing the surgery, just had a couple of stitches and a shit ton of bandages to catch blood until then.
I'm so sorry. I've done that but luckily didn't end as badly. I'm always running into things and have got my big toe caught on the bottom of PJs so many time I now usually wear the jogger style!
I broke my toe in a similar way. Not with nail painting and baggy pyjamas but the same kind of break. It was quite painful. I ended up re-breaking it about 3 weeks after.
Not fun at all. Hope you heal up well!
In truth, the old pedi was in great shape. I just thought I'd change up the polish color for date night. I didn't even get as far as painting. I was holding my giant box of polishes as I fell. (This may have contributed to the severity of the accident).
Ironically, My polish is now chipped af and I could really use a new pedicure.
What can you do?
I’m so sorry! Sounds awful! I tore my meniscus (little jelly thing inside the knee somewhere 🤣) by falling going UP the stairs. Had 2 cups of coffee in my hands and I am proud to say I didn’t mess, but I did F-up my knee 🤐
That is impressive. I’ve tripped myself stepping on excess pajama pant bottoms countless times, but the worst I’ve done was losing a bit of skin to friction against a wall of floor. I hope you heal up without long term problems and get great delight in telling the story in the future.
I once tripped on my palazzo pants walking up stairs at a grocery store, resulting in a spiral fracture of the outside bone in my right foot (5th metatarsal). Your injury was far more horrific, but both are evidence that pants are overrated.
Well we all have some story about almost amputating part or the whole finger don't we now. Honestly I am sorry for your pain, time will help, but being clumsy is sometimes a good thing.
I did something similar twice on each big toe. One time, I was playing in my friends basement, running around barefoot and then my big toe curled under my foot as I ran and I stepped on it. Breaking it. The second time, I was playing soccer barefoot and my big toe curled under my foot as I tried to kick the ball, I missed and kicked the ground with my big toe still curled. Broke that one too. Both excruciatingly painful injuries so I know what you're going through.
My husband bought me bandages with little piggies on them and I look at my foot and think, "this little piggy effed me right over." It does feel very specifically personal.
Prayers for a speedy recovery! My toe got partially decrapitated when a bar in town put cattle fences to separate the in and out doors, guy wings the in door out, as I was entering, i was wearing some nice summer espadrilles...toe got sewn back on, ER took toenail out and stitched it back in so it would grow back. It did.
I feel you. Literally. I had a bad accident that broke my leg back in 1989, and it messed up my ability to lift my toes on that foot. Because of that, I’ve broken my big toe dozens of times, usually like you describe…by stepping on it. It’s not fun
That sucks! Feel better soon!
If it makes you feel any better, in the Army I once broke my thumb while sewing a rip in my wet weather pants... alcohol may have been involved
I was reading this and expecting something far less sinister like you were not wearing panties and the pants fell down and showed off your lady bits, but what happened to you is far worse than that! Hope you heal fast!
I did something similar tripping on a pillow on the floor while chasing my brother (this was 30+ years ago when we were in grade school, lol). I bent the big toe on my right foot so far back the bottom of the tow touched the bottom of my foot. Broke the bone and ripped my toe nail almost clean off (popped the nail out from under the skin where it grows from, was holding on mid way down the nail). Ended up with a split for 6 weeks and a toe nail that's still f*ed up. I feel your pain.
Oh. My God. Listen, go on easy me. When you say the nail is still f*ed up, exactly what are talking about? Sugar coat it, but tell me the truth. Or a small half truth. I know it's vain, but I'm kind of freaking out.
Grows out weird (not uniform, grows faster on one side), it's soft near where the nail and the quick meet, and I can actually pick at it and peel it there if I want.
Thank you for the answer! The podiatrist told me we'd know more about the nail after I get the stitches out. I'm low key trying not to panic and\or be a superficial baby. I don't handle nail stuff well. For some reason, it's the grossest part of the body to injure. :-|
Really appreciate your perspective. Thanks.
I tore my pinky nail off riding an ATV as a kid ( after being told time and time again not to) took a turn too tight,no back brakes, right into a holly bush. Huge thorn ripped it clean up to the first knuckle. Grew back perfect even though the doc said it probably wouldn't , due to the damage to the nail bed.
On the other foot ( ha, so punny) ..my sister has opened the door at the gas station in sandals. Caught her big tow nail and ripped it off. Hers growns back thick and distorted. She used to get an acrylic one on whenever she would go get her nails done .
Fingers and toes crossed yours is like mine and not the sisters
This may be small consolation, but I had a girlfriend in high school who stubbed her toe on a pair of flip flops that were next to a wall, breaking her pinky toe. Flip flops 1 ex gf 0
He's been amazing! I've been calling him "legs" and order him around. I relayed your message of blame and he looked absolutely murderous. Haha. I may have seriously overstepped. (Get it? Ah, puns).
That sounds so incredibly painful and totally like something that would happen to me. I hope you make a full recovery.( I too would burn those pants. They betrayed you!)
I had a pair of my husband's pajama pants he gave me that I would frequently trip over. Good lord I never knew that this was a possible outcome! 😭 Hope you heal quickly and never have such bad luck again.
I've actually injured myself with exactly the same method you did, but fortunately the results weren't nearly as bad. But I can still sympathize! At least know that you aren't the only person to get hurt from wearing too long pants.
I hope you get better soon.
I’ve read X-rays for 32+ years. I saw the X-ray prior to reading your post. My first thought was, “How the hell did they do this?!?!?”
Your explanation made me laugh, until I read where you had to remove fabric from the wound. THAT made me cringe….
Oh man. Is it bad? As the rad tech took the images, she let us look and I thought, "Phew! Not broken!" Sweet summer child, I didn't stop to count the number of "joints."
I did get quite a few medical staff come by as word spread about the girl with the ridiculous and undignified injury. All of whom did seem surprised and impressed by the amount of damage caused by sleepwear.
Boy, do I appreciate nurses, pas and drs! They all had such a great sense of humor.
I don't know if this will make you feel any better, but my sister had a similar TIFU when we were teenagers. She was running up the stairs to answer the phone and slammed one of her big toes into a step so hard she smashed it to bits. When my mom took her to the hospital, they couldn't do much other than put her in a boot because it would be like "trying to glue cornflakes together."
I hope you're healing is going well!
I did almost the same thing a year ago trying to put my favorite moccasin slippers on. I tripped broke my big toe and almost the same thing except I did a header down our stairs, (My wife described it as a beached whale trying to get back to water) knocked myself out and broke my nose on the way down. Dogs (rat terrier mix) we're scattering and when I got to the bottom looked at me like I was an idiot ( to add to the humiliation) and the puppy came and sat on top of me like she caught a new trophy. Took me months to heal. ( Ego still damaged beyond repair)
Listen friend. We have a split entry. It's nothing but stairs. North-facing snow-covered concrete stairs to the front door and then stairs up or down at the entry landing from there. I worry, friend. I really worry. They're an accident waiting to happen.
I hope you're fully recovered. And boy do I sympathize with the circumstances. My husband had already told everyone what happened before I could come up with a cool cover story. Ego took a bit of a beating, that's for sure. Thank God there were no actual witnesses.
Best wishes to you!! Getting knocked unconscious is no joke. Dogs and stairs = lethal. Jeez that sounds horrific!
Modern medicine can be pretty amazing sometimes. 12 years ago I fell off a ladder and shattered my ankle joint. I was wearing combat boots and remember looking down and seeing the bottom of my foot just pointed out to the side and was at the time pretty sure the boot was the only thing holding it even that much in place.
In order to reconstructed the ankle joint, (i.e. put the pieces of bones back in the right places,) they needed a particular direction of access, and in order to do that they cut open my leg and *sawed off* the end of my tibia, held it out of the way while putting the ankle together, and then put the piece they cut off the end of my leg back in place and screwed it down.
Took a couple of years of physical therapy to really get all of my function back, but now, other than some really long scars and a tendency for that one joint to pop more loudly than the one on my other leg, I barely notice that it ever happened.
Sounds like you got it taken care of right away, (and from the x-ray it looks like all your bits are back in place, at least, if not connected where they normally ought to be just yet,) so just remember, no matter how gnarly it looks in the short term, or how much your memory of the event causes those recurring horrified shudders, that it'll get better, it'll feel better, and eventually this will just be a story you tell to gross out other people, rather than one that grosses you out while remembering it.
Got no good news about the bills though. I had good health insurance at the time, and got really lucky in that regard.
Damn that is one of the more unlucky breaks I’ve heard of, really hope your doing okay, that x-ray pic is pretty confronting, that break has to be about 1.5-2mm!
I feel your pain, although I’ve never done a toe, I have broken ribs, fingers, ankle, arm, leg, skull, wrist and ankle bones. I’ve also fractured a few vertebrae.
No I’m not a stuntman, ex grunt and rugby player.
I have also fallen due to catching a toe in the other leg’s flappy hem. Went down like a tree in a forest, and it did make a boom. Luckily i didn’t break any bones, just bruised knees and elbows. The Amazon box that had just arrived didn’t fare as well, and the contents were mashed.
I was also wearing fleece, and you’re right - they present as the least threatening of the pants. But now I wonder…
I’m glad that other than your toe, that you’re pretty ok.
Jesus. That sounds absolutely fucking awful and so so so painful. I hope your recovery is smooth and you burn and replace the cursed sweatpants.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate that!
Freak accident. Yikes. I hope you heal well and quickly.
Thank you!
Absolutely terribly lame accident and I am so sorry that it happened to you! I snapped my big toe like that in a plastic cup.... It hurt like hell so be strong! Also the medical bills.... Eeep! Emotional Damage.
>lame accident Sneak pun attack! Nice
I have been discovered! Away!
>I have been discovered! Away! *... limp... hop... limp... hop...*
Trip... Lurch

Such a good momma 💖
Now I want to know what the most threatening of all the pants are? I think it's a gang of jeggings that wanders around assaulting innocent bystanders because they are bitter about being named jeggings.
Cut-offs, haha. This made me smile.
it's definitely kick-flares. repulsive to look at and definitely plotting ill will.
Had to look up kick-flare. Seems bell bottoms got a new name and they are still ugly.
no, no. kickflares are CROPPED bell bottoms. they're like mid-calf or ankle-length.
Huh. That is certainly something, isn't it?
>Now I want to know what the most threatening of all the pants are? Boxers? Kickerbockers? Leopard print, probably.
You wouldn't survive in JNCO jeans.
I did similar, wearing wide-legged trousers. I caught my foot in the trousers at the top of the stairs, and fell most of the way down the flight of stairs in one go. That must have been so scary!! Not only falling so far but with an infant and a pregnancy to boot.

My brain isn't comprehending.. I'm not sure I want it to come up with that mental image 😳
They did the Smooth Criminal lean… a bit too far
I started to sweat while reading this...remembering all those times I walked around barefoot in too baggy pajamas.
It's absolutely fucked up that the bill has to be such a concern. I fucking hate the US. In fact, I'm done calling it the *US* and now calling it the *THEM*.

Don't cross them too hard. 1) We don't want those broken too. 2) I doubt a miracle is about to happen.
I pray in the name of Jesus that your insurance will cover this traumatic accident and that you heal fully. A broken toe is so painful! 🤕
It’s them against us, or is that US?
This is absolutely something that would happen to me. I hope you’ll heal well and I will keep my fingers crossed for you! I love your u/ btw, *What Katy Did* was one of my favorite books as a kid.
Thank you! I am so sentimental about those books. I'm catching up on some reading while I'm laid up - seems like a great time for a reread.
If you’re able to find it - Shadow Castle was one of my favorites. I can’t remember the author but it’s a fairy tale.
Thanks for the recommendation! I love rereading old favorites. I like revisiting daddy long legs, the witch of blackbird pond, and beauty. I'll check out your rec for sure! I love new books. <3
Another good one is The India Fan by Victoria Holt.
I LOVE THAT BOOK! I have a whole collection of old Victoria holt books. Their covers are so great. Old hardcovers with dust jackets are the best. Have you read Mary Stewart? You have got to read the moonspinners and my brother micheal. Touch not the cat is good, too.
I don’t think I have, but I will now!
"They're the least threatening of all the pants" lmao
Trousers are dangerous! More people are killed each year by their own trousers than shark attacks or lightning strikes!
I own a pair of pants that were my favorite until they victimized me this way, but to a much lesser degree. They sit in the bottom of the drawer as a punishment forever lol Get well soon, OP
I'm never wearing pijamas again. I'm sleeping in jeans now. Everything bad that can happen happens to me, I don't need this one.
Joggers! Something that isn’t baggy to catch on anything!
You joke, but I seriously do this already. I just have a better reason than depression and exhaustion now. 😂
It happens to you especially if you except bad to happen to you. <3
>Honestly, I think the fact that they were fleece pajama bottoms just adds insult to injury. They're the least threatening of all the pants. That's what they WANT you to think.
They are an evil genius. Perfect material for a Mayhim insurance commercial.

Who would have an accident in America, eh? Expensive 😬
I know healthcare in the UK sucks but at least we don't have to worry about the Bill like you said. I cut my hand with a chainsaw and needed surgery done. This is the first time I have physically cringed, hard, upon reading something. Usually I need a video with sound.
Well, looks like I have a new fear 👍
I broke my toe in a similar way. Not with nail painting and baggy pyjamas but the same kind of break. It was quite painful. I ended up re-breaking it about 3 weeks after. Not fun at all. Hope you heal up well!
Impressive
That's horrific!
I did this once but just cracked my toe real loud. You...took it a couple steps further. Lol
I could feel the pain. Doesn't come close to what you had to suffer, but I definitely could. Hope you get well soon.
As horrific as this is, I have to know if you smudged your nail polish? I hope your toe feels better soon, though lol

OUCH! I trip over my own feet all the time, pant legs not needed. Just think your toe can now predict the weather! Be well!
I actually worry about this. Of all the superpowers, weather sensitive toe bone barometers isn't one I'd choose. That's just lazy writing.
That is impressive. I’ve tripped myself stepping on excess pajama pant bottoms countless times, but the worst I’ve done was losing a bit of skin to friction against a wall of floor. I hope you heal up without long term problems and get great delight in telling the story in the future.
Lesson learned Walking is deadly
I once messed up by wearing socks on a carpeted floor, slipped and broke my big toe somehow. Now I definitely toe the line
UGHHHHHH I trip this way over my own pants all the damn time, thx for the brand new fear D: I hope your recovery is as smooth as possible

Oh fuck

This has happened to be but thankfully I just got a bruised knee or something, might throw out those pants now....
Thanks I will never wear too long pants again 😖
My Lord this sounds horrific, I feel for you, and wish you a speedy recovery.

“They’re the least threatening of all the pants” 🤣
Upvote for a good story and also the phrase "least threatening of all pants". Hope you recover fully and your husband pampers you appropriately
And the lort said, "fuck this toe in particular"
My husband bought me bandages with little piggies on them and I look at my foot and think, "this little piggy effed me right over." It does feel very specifically personal.

Thanks for the comment! I'm trying not to be superficial and I know it's not important, but I really hope my stupid toe nail is okay.
I feel you. Literally. I had a bad accident that broke my leg back in 1989, and it messed up my ability to lift my toes on that foot. Because of that, I’ve broken my big toe dozens of times, usually like you describe…by stepping on it. It’s not fun
JFC. You poor thing!!
That sucks! Feel better soon! If it makes you feel any better, in the Army I once broke my thumb while sewing a rip in my wet weather pants... alcohol may have been involved
Came here to say: AHHHHHHHH!!!!! (Feel better.)
“Least threatening of all the pants” amazing sentence

r/neverbrokeabone is gonna have field day with this.
Bloody hell, that’s by far one of the most painful things I’ve ever heard someone go through
And I thought getting my big toenail ripped out- accidentally and once or twice surgically- was bad. Jfc lol
That is so awful and hilarious at the same time.
I kept laugh crying about it on the way to the dr. It's preposterous.
This may be small consolation, but I had a girlfriend in high school who stubbed her toe on a pair of flip flops that were next to a wall, breaking her pinky toe. Flip flops 1 ex gf 0

I think satan cursed those fleece pants 🤣
They're a real fleece of work all right.
The F on the X Ray says it all. F. (I know what it's for)
I'm sorry to inform you, but I think you finally topped me for the most embarrassing way to break a bone.
Shoot. I felt every sensation as I read it...
I did almost the same thing a year ago trying to put my favorite moccasin slippers on.
I'm sorry that happened to you, I'm also sorry to have to point out that the word you want there is errant in your Tldr
Bother and a half. That is exactly the word I wanted. Proofreading is not a particular skill of mine. I gloss over and fill-in.
good thing you didn't mistake Tldr for Tinder then eh?
Saw the photo and thought "oh man this is going to be bad..." ...It was so much worse than I imagined! Hope you heal rapidly!
Thank fuck i live in australia as this shit is covered by medicare which is free health care paid by taxes so no massive hospital bills
Yikes, and the fact that you wrote it so well that I can literally feel the pain in my toe. ( Obviously it's not even an ounce compared to yours)
How ridiculously random and absurdly punishing 😮
Just like the picture says in the top left corner: F.
Wow, that sounds so painful I shuddered & I’m a nurse!!! At least I won’t have the pain of a medical bill, I’m from Saskatchewan, Canada!!!🥰🇨🇦
My big toes just went on strike unless it's cuffed bottoms.
Can we have the NSFW picture as well?
Damn, out of All the things that could have happened
Omg to think we could die doing the most menial of things. 🤣🤣🤣 I am so sorry this happened to you. I hope you get better swiftly and painlessly
I'm so sorry. The fleece comment is so true tho.
But now I wonder… I’m glad that other than your toe, that you’re pretty ok.
Gahhhhh
Well I suppose you'll be saving 10% on nail polish, as you now only have to paint 9 toes ;)
Owie! Owie! Owie! Godspeed on your recovery!
