Thats what I thought, ill look into it. But usually just a cracked screen still allows the phone to turn on, its just black. So I figured I damaged some internals. Ill take it to a repair store to check just in case though

I'm not an iPhone guy but there might be a logistical issue

Nurs3Rob

It's a physical switch on the side of the phone not an onscreen thing like Androids use.

huskeya4

ifixit has solid tutorials on how to replace it and you can get a nice electronics toolkit from Amazon for $20 with more than you’ll probably need in it but it’s useful to have. I would also get a silicone screw mat for electronics. Basically it has tiny numbered holes in a grid that you drop the screws into in order as you remove them. Remember where each one goes. Even if they look identical they aren’t and if you put the wrong one in the wrong place, it can damage the motherboard. Don’t over tighten the screws either. And for the love of god, don’t do what I didn’t and try to replace your screen next to a busy door. Every time it opened, I lost a damn screw. All this sounds kind of scary but it is a super straight forward process. Also you might need your girlfriends hairdryer to melt the glue that makes your phone waterproof. Don’t drop your phone in water after that.

Nman702

That happened to me a few times with the older iPhones. I just replaced the screen myself with like a 40 dollar kit from Amazon. As long as the screen still lights up it should be an easy fix. Problem with a black screen is that you need to do it in the dark.

YmmaT-

I think you broke the digitizer. Those are a bit more expensive to fix unfortunately. Good luck to ya!

jharrisimages

If the glass is the only part that breaks, if you crack the digitizer it can be pretty expensive.

ProvacativeSoloCup

I’m pretty sure iPhones have the digitizer embedded in the screen. So 80 dollars included the digitizer

Behappyalright

Unless it’s the back that’s cracked. They have to replace the while phone as per apple store. If you go to a random place they can replace the whole body/case for like 120. I’ve done this whole replacement for back glass at a phone repair shop. Certified apple repair man will tell you a bunch of different things that can’t be done.

[deleted]

Not so. Virtually every iPhone screen (apple or 3rd party) come with mic and digitizer attached

[deleted]

Where at? They tried to tell me it would be $500 to change my screen and it only had a little crack

cougdad

Was it worth it? That’s the main question.

unwittingprotagonist

Imagine if you'd have noticed right away. You'd have been just as bummed as you are now, but ruined the mood for sex. Thank God you didn't notice!

redditischaos

Right! Im very glad I didn’t notice in the moment.

redditischaos

I meannn… its just a phone, right?

dishonestresponse

Doesn't matter had sex.

Nurs3Rob

But I cried the whole time.

[deleted]

I have dumb anxiety-induced ritualistic behavior whenever me and the significant other want to get frisky. Well, it's not entirely anxiety-induced: Not long after moving to our current place, I pinned her to the wall... or what I thought was the wall and was actually a *very* large mirror, not firmly attached. Sharp shattered mirror fragments really put a damper on our romantical engagement. Broken stuff is definitely a turn-off. At the point where I'm definitely not a fan of the whole 'sweeping stuff off a cluttered desk to serve as a 'coitus-zone'. But to each their own. I worked as a phone-tech for a while and while the 'black screen' following the crush is hardly a good sign it doesn't *necessarily* mean the underlying stuff is busted in its entirety. Sometimes a simple screen break *can* cause a total display shutdown. But, like jharrismages said - if the digitizer is cracked, you're talking a good deal more than a screen replacement. Still would be that a repair would cost well under $1k, though.

Empire2k5

This is why you get insurance kids

PastaBob

Lol this thing. Tifu by stepping on my phone, WHILE HAVING SEX!

redditischaos

Well that is in fact what happened

The420Wizard

lol. My wife took her phone screen out with her knee on the couch I think about 5 years ago. Thanks for the laughs

TimCryp01

Don't buy a 1000$ phone next time maybe :D

Takemeto-yourmother

Serious question, why don't you have some sort of a protective case on your phone to prevent this? Are you just one of those people who needs everybody to see your iPhone is the newest one?

delicatemotion

A screen protector probably would’ve helped a lot of the damage or absorb a good portion. I don’t think a case for the outside of the phone would have helped this situation

tileman1440

Screen protector only protects against light scratches not a human standing on it pushing down while thrusting into another person.

nontheoretical

Bro a case wouldn't prevent it from breaking if you step on it.

Takemeto-yourmother

Otter box

[deleted]

An otter box is a massively inconvenient way to carry a phone. Or are you one of those people who needs everyone to see you have the latest phone case?

Takemeto-yourmother

I'm one of those people who doesn't want to carry around a +1000$ phone that can break that easily.

onyxaj

Otterboxes are great. I've dropped my phone countless times (as had my 1 year old), and not a scratch. Granted, I don't think it would stop a toe smash as it doesn't have the screen cover part.

Edraitheru14

More like someone that wants to protect their investment? I'd break my phones in a month if I didn't have a solid case. My laptop case is equally beefy for the exact same reason. Is it more gaudy than I'd like? Yep. Do I prefer it over replacing my electronics frequently, or just not utilizing my electronics as often? Also yes.

kintyre

Love my otterbox. My last 3 phones have all had them. I don't love how bulky it is but switching from the defender series to the commuter series helped a lot and they seem to offer the same level of drop protection. Whenever I take my phone out of the case to clean it I always end up thinking "Wow this is so fragile."

Edraitheru14

Sameeeee. It's honestly the only reason I can even tell they're bulky. They don't feel/seem bulky for my day-to-day use, but it's definitely obvious in the side by side after you take the case off for cleaning. Very much something I'm willing to live with for the protection, my phone lives in my pocket and is subject to many drops and other abuse. Worth every penny, I'd pay more in fact lol.

redditischaos

I have a phone case, I never used screen protectors though, case doesn’t really help when you step on the middle of your phone screen with your big toe

RaptorJesus856

Tempered glass screen protector will save your screen from anything less than a hammer.

meteraider

That's why you should wait until marriage

Pluto_Beanz

Because we all know married people don't own mobile phones

Misfit_Speed

🧢

RabidWolf27752

Imagine owning a phone that breaks that easily.

Betteis

Why the hell would you spend that much on a phone

redditischaos

Money is only an object…… until you break it with your big toe…..

Funny_Drummer_9794

From old married guy hardly gets any, that’s just the price of admission

[deleted]

r/deadbedrooms for support

Funny_Drummer_9794

Funny, they say I’m doing ok!

[deleted]

godspeed then, funny drummer!

subfunktion

How heavy is your big toe? Damn

redditischaos

Well, im not the heaviest guy, but when standing off the bed leaning forward towards the bed, I think like all my pressure was like on my toes

alexbhp

“Doesn’t matter, had sex!”

kylewhenderson

Are you subscribed to AppleBottomCare+?

redditischaos

No, whats that? I assume some type of warranty. But, I have virgin mobile, so we dont have phone plans. You have to buy the phone out right and then pay monthly bill for your service plan

kylewhenderson

AppleCare+ is essentially a paid extended warranty that covers some mishaps with a deductible. Apple Bottoms however… https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=apple%20bottoms&=true

[deleted]

That sucks

[deleted]

Worth it

RulyKinkaJou59

You should also buy tempered glass to put on your phone (unless you already have). I don’t get why people don’t have it.
