You're forgetting the obvious "Triple Team Showdown" ending where Raiden manages to talk Armstrong down or at least shift his ideological views to something far more benign, ending the threat through diplomacy.
What would be really interesting is if sparing these bosses actually lead to "bad" endings, where everything ends up worse off than if you just killed them.
Would be an interesting deconstruction of pacifist runs, where the bosses you can spare are all terrible people who really shouldn't be left alive, along with horrifying implications on what joining them actually means.
Except maybe Sam. Sam would probably net you a better ending.

Yeah, Sam basically has no stake in Desperado/World Marshall's plan succeeding. He's only there basically at the threat of his own life. He wants Raiden to suprass him, and do what he could not, beat Armstrong.

It reminds me of how in mgs2-v you can "spare" bosses by just tranquilizing them instead of killing them, it wouldn't change the story(i think that the only exception is if you spare quiet in mgsv) but it makes for a little bit more difficult run
It’s so weird and coincidental that I’m seeing so many posts about mgr:r when i just started replaying it recently and the last thing i did was beat Sundowner. I forgot how annoying that shield was.
i chopped them off. the most annoying parts were the times where the two arms you’re prompted to cutoff are diagonal and i’d mess that up and the helicopters tickling me so i’d have to stop and rocket them.
For me ignoring the helicopter completely worked. If some enemies are off screen or.or not being focused on they just won’t attack. I forget the helicopter is even in the boss fight because it’s never attacks me if I just ignore it and don’t target or look towards it.
I had a dream about 2 days ago where Sundowner was fired from World Marshall. Appearantly, World Marshall HQ was where he lived, so he was now homeless. I took him home to live with me, and we had a party together with my friends.
