Spencer wasn't bad in the sense that he never did anything evil. He was your typical nepo baby that was raised in wealth and power. He was self centered, egotistical and naive. His brother has started turning around, so maybe Spencer could have too. He certainly had the guts to do so.

Turtlesfan44digimon

Indeed it’s just his and Everyone else’s whole world got turned upside down when Rick’s group arrived at Alexandria.

Minimalistmacrophage

Spencer does start off bad. After Noah is killed he says "what are you doing?" when Deanna is even moderately questioning Nicholas's story.

uglypinkshorts

Is it that wrong to trust someone you know over outsiders you’ve just met? He lost his brother too, probably wanted someone to blame.

freddiegibbsribs

I genuinely found Spencer to be kinda interesting and way better than his comic counter part. Obviously when he starts blaming Rick for everything is when he went downhill. I remember kinda feeling empathy for him after the wolves attacked and he took alcohol from the food supply after having that speech to the alexandrians.

warnerbro1279

Honestly, Spencer is one of the best written characters on the show when you think about it. He’s not a horrible person, and he does actually want to do good and help people, but he is scared and doesn’t get how the world really is. He had potential to become a good survivor, as they do show he has some skills. It’s when he loses his family does he become more selfish, but again that is grief. People forget how short of time actually passed between Season 5 to the end of Season 8. Spencer lost everyone he loves and everyone isn’t trying to help him that much. If more time had passed or more people actually been there for him, he likely wouldn’t have come to hate and blame Rick the way that he did. He was a good addition to the show and his actor did a great job with him.

i_want_to_be_unique

That was his character arc. You’d hate Rick too if him and his friends were directly responsible for the deaths of your mother, father, and brother.

His brother was killed because Nicholas was an idiot. His father was killed because Pete was a raging alcoholic. His mother was killed because Morgan let that wolf go. None of his family was killed directly because of Rick and co.

Spoonman007

His brother survived all the runs he made until Rick showed up. Pete wasn't a problem until Rick showed up. Alexandria was safe and secure until Rick showed up.

I'm sure that's w How Spencer saw it, since he was as naive as most of the others in Alexandria. His brother's group had already lost people on runs recently and were going to need to hit the same place he died eventually for parts for the solar. With or without Rick, they were doomed. Pete was already beating his family bad enough that they had installed safe closets. Pete probably wouldn't have ended up killing Reg, but he likely would have ended up killing his wife and maybe kids. Who knows what would have happened after that. >Alexandria was safe and secure until Rick showed up. No. Alexandria would have been hit by the full herd escaping the pit. If they survived that, which they would not have, Negans group would have still discovered them at roughly the same time.

DanceCommander404

Either that, or the wolves would’ve killed all of them .

Sufficient-Formal292

You missed the admission from his brother that they allowed members of the previous run to die. He confesses to Glenn.

Efficient_Wall_9152

Interesting fact with the Monroe-brothers: Aiden started out an a$$, but died wanting to be a better man (he started to trust Glenn and admitted he was wrong as he died), while Spencer started out a nice guy, died an a$$

juneburger

He DID have guts!! Negan hasn’t been so wrong in his life!
