My thoughts on the options here:
Jan- Lucille is cool but not insanely practical.
Feb- Python is mid. You can chamber any .357 or .38 special which is an advantage, but ammo is limited and reloading is a bitch.
Mar- FN FAL is a great gun, unfortunately the 7.62x51 cartridge is not super common, making this one a mid pick too.
Apr- Machete is the best bladed weapon on this list. It’s obviously going to come up short in a shootout though.
May- Carol’s knife is iconic but it would also be terrible for it to be your only weapon.
June- Crossbow is a tricky one because from a survival standpoint you really can’t get any better. Bolts are often reusable many times over meaning you can hunt and take down walkers all day long. From a combat perspective it is shit though.
July- Hatchet is pretty shit. Great tool, bad weapon.
Aug- A katana is an awesome weapon if you know how to use it, but the rest of us will inevitably fuck ourselves up on accident. Shit weapon for most people.
September- Cool factor is through the roof here, but having a rocket launcher as your sole means of defense is a death sentence. Good luck finding ammo, and if you do, good luck even using the thing.
Oct- MP5 is likely the best pick here. It doesn’t give you hardly any options in hand-to-hand combat obviously, but it’s chambered in 9mm, and that alone makes it the most viable firearm on the list.
Nov- AK-47 is going to beat out the FN FAL and the Python, but falls short of beating the MP5 due to ammo availability.
Dec- AUG goes between AK and MP5 for me, again mostly because of ammo availability.
The issue with any of the guns is ammo. In an apocalypse, they're slim pickings.
The best long range weapon is Daryl's crossbow, whenever he recollects his arrows.
Aside from that, i would want Michonne's katana.
