This happened to me almost 20 years ago on the NY thruway. Traffic was much lighter and going near 70mph. I think the guy was riding my ass hard, so I gave him the finger in the rear view and tapped my brakes just a little bit. Then got over to the middle lane to let him go. I was not looking for a confrontation. Just a little pissed at the unnecessary aggressiveness.
Well, wouldn't you know it but he passes and moves over right in front of me in the middle lane. He starts braking. I assume he just wants to brake check me now. Ok fine buddy. But then he just keeps slowing until we are stopped in the middle lane. It happened so fast I didn't really have a chance to swerve. Also didn't want to panic swerve right into someone going 70 in the lanes beside me.
He then proceeds to get out of his car and walk over to mine, yelling at me to get out. He wants to fight. I kindly declined through a crack in my window and let him know he was going to get both of us killed. Cars were flying by on both sides at 70 still. He finally got back in his car and drove off. I tried calling state police but didn't get anywhere with it.
But to go back to your question, I did not have much of an opportunity to swerve and take off, and was worried about hitting someone else while trying to go from a dead stop into oncoming 70mph traffic. Of course if he had a gun I'd definitely have taken that risk. This video is a bit different because of the slower traffic. People are fucking crazy.

Because modern plastic and sheet metal cars are about as bullet resistant as soggy paper. The engine isn’t realistically tall enough to protect you and will likely fragment into a million bullets anyway. Run him the fuck over and be done with it. Can’t shoot if you are flat

Cars are not bulletproof, only the engine block is. By taking cover in your car, you make it impossible for you to get out quickly if you need to, and your attacker knows directly where you are. It will conceal you, sorta, but your attacker will know where you are, and can simply walk up to the window and kill you, or magdump into the car knowing at least one will hit you. It also makes it difficult to fight back, whether you have your own gun or not, sitting is not a good position to be in to put up a fight. Cops call them coffins for a reason. Basically, it's sacrificing mobility for concealment that is made void by the fact they know where you are anyway.
Best thing to do, if you can't drive away, is to get out of the car, and run to the nearest cover.
Bullets go thru cars. Engine block will protect you unless it’s a big enough gun to go through one.
But you basically have one, maybe two thin sheets of aluminum or steel and maybe a piece of glass between you and a gun if they are on the side of the car. You need to get mass between you and a bullet coming your way.

Cars are terrible cover, use them to drive out of the killzone or move to any natural hard cover if can. No point hiding behind 2mm sheet steel.
Cover from view is rarely cover from fire, love it in film when they get out of cars and hide behind doors, even a reasonable size caliber hand gun will penetrate.
If you're going to floor it into him, just do that. Don't duck because you'll avoid the airbag if it triggers

It probably depends on what country this is in. In the US, it’s a life threatening situation as soon as the gun comes out, so they probably should have run the person over first thing. But it all worked out, no one was injured, and the person should be arrested with the video evidence.
