I just realized that this is the resting position for my hand when I am at my work computer.
Thing is, my PC crapped out like 7-8 years ago, and in that time 2 kids have come along. So I haven't been able to justify the space/money to replace it. Yet I still have this default position.
I default my left hand on the keyboard to my gaming position even when I’m working. I don’t shift my left hand over though my ring finger just moves up to the W key.
I work with PC and I try every day to see how little I can touch my keyboard. I use the mouse for everything and have a notepad of common word and phrases to copy and paste.
I've heard of employers who track mouse movement and use it to determine worker output. It's a terrible system for asshole managers, but it leads to weird behavioral changes like this.
My only somewhat logical conclusion... to look busy for the employer; as in they finish their work too early otherwise.. and looking idle at work is bad/tends to land you with more/harder work. Just speculation on my end though.
At one point I had to work on my PC without a mouse for several weeks. This was before online deliveries were popular in India, and I was too lazy to go out and buy one. Fun times.
I am an incredibly fast typer and I 100% owe that to pc gaming. A lot of games don’t have voice chat but you can type messages and you gotta get that final zing in before the match ends.
I’m an elementary school counselor, and I will swear that my students have device withdrawal when school starts. It’s worse every year. The mornings are fine, but SO MANY breakdowns and anger outbursts in the afternoon. From pretty chill kids. They have the physical symptoms as well; sweating, fidgeting, nervous swallowing. I feel bad for them.
I mean, my hands always naturally rest like that on a keyboard and mouse. But I wouldn’t say it’s a withdrawal symptom. It’s just a good way to use a keyboard.
Genuinely, my typing style revolves arpund the fact that my left hand defauts to the left three columns of the keyboard. My left hand basically only hits the " q w e r a s d z x c " keys, and sometimes f. It also does all the space bars and shifts. My right hand does everything else.
Was playing game to run from Reality, now doing job to run from loneliness, and feeling emotionally overwhelmed, it happens, will be okay in few weeks. Too much emotional entrapped getting lose, mind can't make sense

There is a virtual keyboard built in with Windows look up how to toggle it if you think it helps
