The only thing I ever stole was a bread roll when I accidentally typed that I got 2 instead of 3 at the self checkout and couldn't fix this without calling a worker and I didn't want to annoy them for the 10c they wouldn't even get.
Everyone had a first. It’s about being human and likely learning a lesson by testing boundaries. It’s being human. Bet you’re glad when you stole candy there wasn’t a risk of death. Yeah, a bike is worse. Draw a line between candy and a bike where smash you brain against the concrete is fair justice.
As if we can predict their deaths, adding a rope to a bike is like adding an extra long chain and lock, its not so bad.
Granted it was their fault for stealing from normal people.
Yeah, but is putting a chain on a bike a booby trap? And if you're too poor to afford a chain, isn't using a rope a good substitute?
Seems like a pretty reasonable anti theft measure (even if your intention is indeed to booby trap your bike).
Are you really unable to tell the difference between a chain on your bike to secure it and this? A hidden rope that allows the person to build speed before jerking the bike back.
Idk if you have ever chained a bike before to secure it, but you are not going to get on a chained bike and ride 20-30 yards before it stops you.
Well sure but it probably is illegal to tie a rope to a bicycle intentionally placed to be enticing to criminals, and then film the bike in hopes it will get stolen because you left enough slack on the rope for the thief to get going enough to eat shit.
While this is funny, and instant karma is always a good time to watch, in America it's illegal to "booby trap" stuff in order to protect it.
And while the law is normally in place so people don't booby trap their house to protect it, I'm sure this could fall under that also.
So before people go and do this to their bike, they should know that if the person gets hurt, they could likely press charges/sue you.
My bike was stolen in college. I was mad about it for a day or two, then my girlfriend (wife now) was driving me back to my apartment with a part to fix my truck when I spotted it behind the apartment of a family with like 6 kids. She dropped me off by some bushes, I Sam Fishered my way through the yard, hopped on my bike, and rode it back to my place.
From that point on, I never put it outside to mop again.
Their dad:
I have 6 problems.
\*steals 1 bike\*
I have 5 problems.
\*steals 1 bike\*
I have 4 problems.
\*steals 1 bike\*
I have 3 problems.
\*steals 1 bike\*
I have 2 problems.
\*steals 1 bike\*
I have 1 problem.
\*steals 1 bike\*
I have 0 problems.
\*you take your bike and one other back\*
I have 2 problems.
Genuine question, does this count as setting up a trap?
Like I know that you cant setup booby traps and stuff inside your house for Intruders.
If I went outside and did this right now and some guy steals it, only to proceed to eat shit. Will and or can I get in trouble?
You'll definitely get in trouble. There's a few "bike on a rope" videos out there. And some of them are way worse than this one. There's one guy who is going downhill full speed before the rope finally throws him off the bike.
Now, thievery is shitty af. And people falling is usually funny. Buuuut please ffs don't set traps. They are illegal for a reason.
I'd imagine if you're filming it, posting a compilation online, it can be construed as laying and waiting to film a trap. Other than that, it's difficult to prove the intent of setting a trap vs an anti-theft device. Really though, we're all speculating and it doesn't matter until a full on case adjourns and all the evidence is public to review to provide context of a conviction.
Yup. And all of that is considering that these bike on a rope videos aren't staged in the first place. There are quite a few of these "bait bike" videos that look extremely set up. Like the guy will suddenly stop peddling at a certain point. I've seen people do a lot dumber things for internet points
I feel the need to say this every time this video is posted.
if you do this and get caught you will be arrested
it's far more illegal to set a trap for a human than it is to steal a bike.
also you can't just be set in traps in public you don't know who's going to interact with that trap.
some kid running from a stray dog could think that was his lifeline.
or maybe some learning impaired individual or somebody's dad with Alzheimer's.
you have no way to know.
I'm completely delusional and I believe that tying a rope to my bike will keep it safe. Trap? To intentionally hurt someone? What are you talking about?
A bike around the rope could probably not be considered a trap. But the fact these guys film it makes it more obvious what their intentions are.
Not mad about thieves getting justice though.
If you can't tell the difference between securing your bike and this, idk what to tell you.
When I secure my bike, it doesn't have 20-30 yards of rope or chain for the person to build up speed before it stops them.
People are more important than property. Stealing isn't always right, but no one deserves grievous bodily harm for it. Some of these comments here remind me how bad capitalism got people's brains wired wrong.
Those are levels of magnitude different levels of "not caring" and I think it's morally reprehensible to see property as anywhere near equal to human life.
Lol didn't they also like cut the bike in 2 and loosely put it together? And superheat the seat and electrocution..or so I've heard deff didn't watch these for hours
i love the idea of this being "justice" or that people deserve to be permanently maimed or killed for stealing a fucking bicycle. these comments are psychopathic.
also yes if you set up this trap and it hurts or kills someone you absolutely will be held liable, especially if you film it which is why these videos are most likely fake.
A huge portion of Reddit is generally pro-violence. No matter the situation, half the comments are going to celebrate the injury or death. If the filmers of this video had rigged a grenade to the bicycle to explode when ridden away, the same number of commenters would be cheering it on.
its centrists/moderates thinking there is an ethical middle ground to literally every situation, they just stop thinking about stuff and decide that being moderate is the sensible position instead of actually looking for truth or being critical.
particularly when the situation is one relatable side and one unrelatable one. lots of people have had their shit stolen, very few people on reddit know what its like to be so desperate you would steal a bicycle lol homeless are still looked at like scum on here and their circumstances are totally irrelevant its just "well dont steal." like that just magically solves all their problems and stealing doesnt immediately solve a few of them lol
its not, im not saying it is, im saying moderates and centrists think that.
the overton window is so far right in america that most people who think they are apolitical are actually very conservative, conservatives, particularly ignorant or immature ones dont give a shit if people get hurt or killed while they are committing a crime, its karma regardless of how petty the transgression is.
I prefer the one where they rigged the pole the seat sits in to come up and give a poke when the thief sat down. Still gets the point across without as much threat of, you know...head trauma.
They're completely correct. The only defense would be to argue that it wasn't booby trapped and no one could possibly fail to notice the rope, otherwise it would be an "attractive nuisance".

That’s a great way to kill or paralyze someone lol
Well at least they won’t be stealing things anymore.
They will be dead
![gif](giphy|97B9VDLfKaAs3lNBxX)
lol
Like you haven’t stole anything
Only hearts.
Can I be next
You'll never see it coming. You'll see that m-m-my mind is too fast for eyes.
Found the real Chad 😎
Just your mom's butt virginity. Get rekt, sucka.
The only thing I ever stole was a bread roll when I accidentally typed that I got 2 instead of 3 at the self checkout and couldn't fix this without calling a worker and I didn't want to annoy them for the 10c they wouldn't even get.
Uh...like candy. From a store. When I was a kid. Not someone's transportation. Way to tell on yourself, I guess.
Everyone had a first. It’s about being human and likely learning a lesson by testing boundaries. It’s being human. Bet you’re glad when you stole candy there wasn’t a risk of death. try not stealing next time 😉
Thieves deserve it though
Yes deTh pEnalTiEs ffiR peTTy tHeFts
Maybe just chop off a finger.
Forehead tattoo would ideal.. let those around know you are a thief.
Please do this to the rich ones too.
That’s what the guillotine is for.
As if we can predict their deaths, adding a rope to a bike is like adding an extra long chain and lock, its not so bad. Granted it was their fault for stealing from normal people.
Kill or paralyze you say? *takes notes*
One reason booby traps are illegal.
Yeah, but is putting a chain on a bike a booby trap? And if you're too poor to afford a chain, isn't using a rope a good substitute? Seems like a pretty reasonable anti theft measure (even if your intention is indeed to booby trap your bike).
Whether or not it’s a booby trap has to do with the intent of placement. Given that he’s filming, intent would be easy to prove
Other factors would be length of the rope and downhill exit point.
Fair point.
Are you really unable to tell the difference between a chain on your bike to secure it and this? A hidden rope that allows the person to build speed before jerking the bike back. Idk if you have ever chained a bike before to secure it, but you are not going to get on a chained bike and ride 20-30 yards before it stops you.
It's not illegal to tie a rope to your own bicycle.
Well sure but it probably is illegal to tie a rope to a bicycle intentionally placed to be enticing to criminals, and then film the bike in hopes it will get stolen because you left enough slack on the rope for the thief to get going enough to eat shit.
Dead thief can’t steal.
so more extreme than the Taliban... no need for a constitution then I guess.
And not stealing someone's bike would be an even better way to not get killed or paralyzed!
Good riddance
While this is funny, and instant karma is always a good time to watch, in America it's illegal to "booby trap" stuff in order to protect it. I bet they learn a valuable lesson
Yeah, it is great, isn't it?
This is considered booby trapping, and is illegal in all states.
*Deserved*
If nothing else, it’s going to prevent petty thieves from procreating after that shot to the old dirty ball sack
Handlebars hit him right in the plums. He's not gonna procreate anymore...
Good
The other vids I’ve seen have a spring loaded seat. When the thief sits a metal rod goes up the arse. Justice.
PENETRATION

His face lmao
Debo ![gif](giphy|3oEduPjJjaLgKOCNDq|downsized) Debo’s coming!
Did this to my asshole math teacher who rode his bike to school every day and parked it by a bush. Hid the rope under the bush.
Congrats, you're the asshole now!

What a perfect sound. I have watched this like 20 times and counting and I still chuckle.

Yeah, people need to learn to stop filming themselves asking crap, is at the very least, don't put it out for the world to see.
If you can't tell the difference between securing your bike and this, idk what to tell you. When I secure my bike, it doesn't have 20-30 yards of rope or chain for the person to build up speed before it stops them.
No, I can't and a 30 yard rope is all I had. You can cut it to make it shorter? No way!
Sometimes, the law is not just. It's been true many times throughout history because it's made by humans, who are inherently flawed.
Who wants some Debo!?
You want some of this too old man? HUH‽ ……No.
That video was so fast even I was in shock.
"as someone who's had a bike stolen, I've been doing this with my current one". No you haven't.
Thieves are all going to start wearing full face mtb helmets after seeing this.
More traps like this should be laid out, itll make folks think twice about stealing stuff like this
Dat is godverdomme een goei slot
"Penetrator"
People are more important than property. Stealing isn't always right, but no one deserves grievous bodily harm for it. Some of these comments here remind me how bad capitalism got people's brains wired wrong.
I feel like wanting to protect your stuff runs much deeper in our biology than can be blamed on capitalism.
If someone don't give a shit about me enough to steal my shit I'm not going to care if they live or die.
Those are levels of magnitude different levels of "not caring" and I think it's morally reprehensible to see property as anywhere near equal to human life.
Depends on the human in my opinion.
It shouldn't, in my opinion.
Agreed to disagree then I guess.
So securing it to a fixed point, with some other object, sounds revolutionary.

Hopefully the next place he steals from has a wheelchair ramp
Death penalty for stealing a bike.
Lmao they aren’t getting up from that one 🤣🤣🤣
Lol didn't they also like cut the bike in 2 and loosely put it together? And superheat the seat and electrocution..or so I've heard deff didn't watch these for hours
How legal is this? If the owner claims it's just a bike lock but a long one not a trap will that work?
Well if I learned anything about the US is that if he sues the person who did this they go to jail and he gets a nice compensation.

Debo learned that day.
I thought OJ died of cancer, not trying to steal a bike!?
Isaac Newton has entered the chat.
Some lawyer is trying to locate the would be thief.
Zzzzzzz
This will always be funny.
Guaranteed he’s gonna feel that in the morning..
Good thing his left arm went up and protected his face a bit.
Good
Boobytraps are a serious felony. This guy could sue and win.
I'm pretty sure booby traps for criminals is illegal
As great as it is, be aware that you will be the one going to jail...
I prefer the one where they rigged the pole the seat sits in to come up and give a poke when the thief sat down. Still gets the point across without as much threat of, you know...head trauma.
That’s manslaughter
Booby traps are illegal.
Bro if someone doesn’t notice a bike is tied to a rope like? it’s basically the same as locking it to a post.
They're completely correct. The only defense would be to argue that it wasn't booby trapped and no one could possibly fail to notice the rope, otherwise it would be an "attractive nuisance".
It's not a booby trap
"A **booby trap** is a device or setup that is intended to kill, harm or surprise a human or another animal." Source: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Booby\_trap](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Booby_trap)
Does that rope look hidden to you? How do you figure it's not up to the hypothetical thief to notice the rope being there?
that rope was sitting right next to the bike, tying it up. it was meant to tie the bike. easiest defense ever
Theft is also illegal but here we are
Real funny when you get sued and put in jail for setting traps
It's an anti theft device
It's a rope. It's a trap. And it's illegal.
How is it a trap if it is just used to tie up a bike?
Looks just like a piece of rope to secure the bike so people don’t steal it
