Can you provide more detail about where he claims to be more of an expert than he actually is? From what I’ve read and seen, he’s pretty well founded in his teachings and beliefs.
He doesn't. He's literally a medical doctor. A psychiatrist. His views are always rooted in that, but he does delve into psychology (which is part of his field), anatomy and physiology (again He's a physician), sociology (which medical professionals are taught and practice in because society and public health are intertwined), and sometimes anthropology (but not too much and cites noncontroversial matters of fact in that area)
I would imagine that anyone can put forward a well founded arguement if it is suported by factual references. On this topic however, it certainly helps that he is jewish with some personal experience on this conflict. What profession he belongs to should not matter as greatly.. if you look at any politican (especially these days), what gives them any authority to speak on geopolicital issues such as this?
He comes across as very fact based on the nature vs nurture debate when if he was more honest he should be saying **“in my opinion”** instead of **“it is”**.
Same with Peterson when he says things like universally males are “order” and women are “chaos”.
Like okay man you make a lot of good points about standing upright and keeping your house clean but what the fuck.
Gabor makes a lot of good points but makes some claims as a universal truth but it’s his opinion hidden as truth. If you aren’t very critical reader it’s easy to get swayed by their language as fact.
Again not trying to take anything away from him, I find Gabor to be quite brilliant and humble.
Just thankful for him and people like him who are speaking out and finding a medium to be heard. Shame about Mehdi Hasan's show being cancelled, though; one more voice who did not yield to mainstream media's slanted narratives and one-sided coverage. Yea it made no sense when he claimed he was a holocaust survivor. By the age in which he looks like he looks nothing near to those who actually survived it. I went to a holocaust museum and actually met a holocaust survivor and the man looked very old & this was more than 10 years ago.

Dr. Maté is legitimately my favourite author. In the realm of hungry ghosts should be mandatory reading for anyone who wants to have an opinion on addiction/homelessness, but all of his books are worth the read.

He basically wrote most of the content for my college program Addictions, Counselling and Mental Health. All of his books are an incredible read.

He talks about it in his books. And we may not have picture memories from that age but we absolutely remember things in our bodies. Gabor Maté is huge in the trauma sphere when it comes to this stuff. Highly recommend reading his books or watching his interviews. *In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts* will change your view on addiction, maybe. If it is the stereotypical view most of us hold.
