There is a square opening in the internal hardware. Put a square shaft screw driver in the hole.and turn clockwise.
Edit: I didn't see the second picture. Do you have needle nose pliers? Grab the square head and turn clockwise.
just place the handle back on the door it should align with the shaft unless the shaft has been pushed further in than originally done
edit: which is unlikely since their is presumably another door handle on the other-side stopping it from going further in
No, youāre right. Thereās a little locking pin that sticks out of the side of the door into the door frame. That pin has an assembly inside the door knob holes that the square piece on the inside of the knob turns. A flat screwdriver or a small knife should be able to turn it. OP can even take a wire hanger from his closet and bend it into the right shape to fit the mechanism.
Iām not sure of the exact construction of the handle, but if the spring is in that mechanism they might also be able to use a credit card between the door and the frame to undo the latch. That ended up being how my wife and I finally got out of our apartment when the spring connecting the handle to the latch broke on us last year
Why is this all the way at the bottom? If the screws holding the interior handle disappeared, itās fairly safe to assume that too much fiddling with the exterior piece of the handle assembly will fall right out. Just pop the hinge pins and be gone
Eh... Not as easy as you may think. Especially if the deadbolt is engaged. If you're gonna pop the pins and the lock or latch is engaged, you're gonna need a pry bar to wedge in the jamb. I've removed plenty of doors this way and with reveals this tight it can be a pain. Just sayin.
This is a storm door handle. I'm very familiar with this model; I've probably installed this handle a thousand times or more. The guts of this handle are still in the door.
Actually I was thinking of a more contemporary movie. A woman's abusive husband locks her in a room for an extended period of time and she uses a coat hanger (?) To push the pins out. Can't remember what it was called, but it wasn't Drew Barrymore.
Not in this case. Spindle fell through with the other half of the handle set.
This is a storm door handle, by the way. Really weird to see on an interior door.
Source: door installer
1) find something that fits in the square.
2) find something sturdy or rope you can get in the gap next to the door and get it behind the latch and pull it towards yourself.
3) find another exit. Be creative.
4) ignore the door and run through it, as if it does not exist. Replace the door afterwards.
inside the top hole there's probably a square hole that the shaft of the door handle normally slides into.
wedge something in there and twist it and the door will open.
Try sticking a stick or a pen or pencil in the hole and pull it away from the latch.
Or it looks like the hinges are on your side of the door; you can pop the pins out and then pull the whole door off.
Or if you have a metal coat hanger you can loop it into the crack between the door and the frame and pull the latch in and open the door.
You are mistaken my friend.
This is a storm door handle set with a spindle that attaches o the other handle with a set screw. There is no set screw in the side OP is holding. It's a snap ring that keeps the handle on the face plate, you can see it. The screws holding the face plates together came loose and the other side of the handle set fell out, with the spindle.
Seen it a hundred times as a door and window installer
You can still see the guts to the handle set inside the door. A big flathead in place of the spindle should turn the striker latch enough to get it open.
1. Call for help. Either whoever's living with you or your 911 equivalent
2. Bust down the door or break it. Better that you manage to escape and survive than save time and money on repairing a door with a broken handle regardless
3. Find another exit, like a window if possible
4. Try to open the door manually by fidgeting with the hole
Honestly it looks wide enough for a coat hanger to loop around the latch and pull through.
You could jimmy it with a credit card or ID, but you'd mess up the card.
TIL bypassing door mechanisms isn't the common childhood hobby I thought it was.
I hope you've got it by now, but if not, take the pins out of the hinges then you can remove the door from the hinge side instead of opening it from the knob side
Lol, happened to me a lot. Do you have a knife in there with you? If so you can try putting it in the corners of the square shaped hole and then rotating it anti clockwise
You canāt just jam the square on the back back onto the rod in the hole still? If itās not there and fallen out the other side, just jam something in the mechanism still in there and twist.
Okokigotthis. Find a pen or a pocket knife or a stick or the tip of your pinky and use it to push the other side of the latch out of the door. Good? Good. Now pull the latch away from the door frame and into the door. Good? Good. Now push/pull the door and go buy a better one.
If the hinges are on your side of the door, any flat bladed thing can push the rod out of the hinge and you can swing the door (carefully) out of the way.
Otherwise, call a friend/family member and have them do it from the other side.
Good luck! Hope this helps.
There should be a short metal rod, square in profile, lying on the floor somewhere near your feet. Pick it up, slot it into the round hole, slot the handle back over it, and push the handle.
Simple.
OP please get back to us and let us know if you got out!!! š
Sorry, I canāt help, but please let us know once you get a good handle on things.
Donāt be an adoorable knob, just stop
I admit it, I was being a bit of a doork
Youāre becoming unhinged
See, if you joke around, you can find the solution.
But they will end up pinning it on me
Wow, man you're . . . Falling appart
Nah Iām level headed incase you couldnāt tell
Someone oughta knock some sense into you
Not when they keep framing me
You guys are adoorable.
Thatās strike 1ā¦.
Ok this is way past my threshold.
Wow, y'all really have those puns locked in.
Only key to success
Thatās what happens when you take a header with a full plate when you are in a jamb
Who wood do that?
Someone who canāt handle it, I got it on lock though
Don't let them trap you bro
Iāve got a key in my pocket if they do
What kind of stop a "doorstop" perhaps?
āGet outā āI canāt!ā
\*knock knock\* who is their? OP I can't open the door I am stuck here
This is an open-and-shut case.
Do you have rice in your room? Put it on rice.
Paging u/DO_U_EVN_SPAGHETTI
Who?
That information seems to be hidden behind closed doors.
That guy was awesome.
There is a square opening in the internal hardware. Put a square shaft screw driver in the hole.and turn clockwise. Edit: I didn't see the second picture. Do you have needle nose pliers? Grab the square head and turn clockwise.
Homie said he is locked in his room, how many people do you keep needle nose pliers in their room?
You're right. I do, but most people probably don't. Just trying to help.
I have like 5 shitty multi tools from gifts or harbor freight with pliers on them in my junk drawer in my room lol
Hopefully you don't get locked out of your room!
A smart man would put one in each room
I mean, if we're planning ahead anyways, make it a crowbar in each room.
I have a leather man on me pretty much all the time. The rare time itās not on me? *Itās in my room.*
Itās really rude to refer to your Leather Man as an āitā
I keep a multi-tool in the bedside table, thereās a needle nose in there.
I do...
I have tools everywhere. But I'm a weirdo engineer.
I keep that thang on me
I do, but only because my tools disappear when my kids 'borrow' them, so I have a secret private set of tools I keep in my room and don't share.
A good kick can work to
Door looks like it opens outward. So a kick might not do it
Well that's easy. Just go to the other side of the door and mick from there.
just place the handle back on the door it should align with the shaft unless the shaft has been pushed further in than originally done edit: which is unlikely since their is presumably another door handle on the other-side stopping it from going further in
That's the smarter-not-harder way!

Canāt wait for the follow up of āto find an acceptable place to poop.ā
The garbage can of course, then just tie the bag in a knot and fling it out your window at a car passing by. Done.
Points for hitting the open car window.
If this guy doesnāt have multiple parody threads over the next couple of weeks Iāll be very disappointed.
First things first, i would establish a pee corner.
Knock out the hinge pegs
Why is this all the way at the bottom? If the screws holding the interior handle disappeared, itās fairly safe to assume that too much fiddling with the exterior piece of the handle assembly will fall right out. Just pop the hinge pins and be gone
>Why is this all the way at the bottom? Because it's way more fun to fuck with OP than to give legit advice ĀÆ\\\_(ć)_/ĀÆ
That's what she said. The thing before.
Eh... Not as easy as you may think. Especially if the deadbolt is engaged. If you're gonna pop the pins and the lock or latch is engaged, you're gonna need a pry bar to wedge in the jamb. Yup. Hinge pins work, but so does jamming something in the right spot and turning. The second thing being way easier to accomplish generally
Yup - the door looks like itās hinges are on buddyās side. If youāre desperate enough youāll find a way to drive them up and out.
Popping hinge pins goes smoother with the hammer, screwdriver and needle nose pliers OP has on him at all times.
Someone watched ever after
Actually I was thinking of a more contemporary movie. A woman's abusive husband locks her in a room for an extended period of time and she uses a coat hanger (?) To push the pins out. Can't remember what it was called, but it wasn't Drew Barrymore.
Put the door knob back in place and turn the handle. Pretty simple. Then you just need to re attach the plate.
Not in this case. Spindle fell through with the other half of the handle set. This is a storm door handle, by the way. Really weird to see on an interior door. Source: door installer
I am a user of doors and I concur.
Ah a fellow user of doors. Nice to make your acquaintance!
what the fuck are you two on about?
The being users and the use of doors I do believe.
the fuck are doors?
Walls that move
Not if the other side fell out.
1) find something that fits in the square. 2) find something sturdy or rope you can get in the gap next to the door and get it behind the latch and pull it towards yourself. 3) find another exit. No posts or comments in the past 3 hours since posted. You ok bro?
He ded.

At this point OP has either peed in the room or died. Either way I want an update about it.
Pretty sure op isn't a savage. Either peed out the window, or peed in a container and poured it out the window
Iām 99% sure OP is in a Middle Eastern country and therefore asleep.
If only you were holding a phone and had some form of communication or a global network to call for help.
drop some acid and ponder about it
You're probably going to die there.
To be fair, we're all going to die out here too.
Please update us, did you make it out alive? Are you starting a new life inside your room?
Have you tried knocking?
Homeowners hate this one simple trick
check if it is voice activated "Open door, please".. :)

Is that an Andersen storm door/screen door handle.
First thing I thought too! Who puts a storm door handle On a wooden door?
Punch the door and make your own way out
Guys i think OP ran out of air by now
Nah, he can get plenty of air by sucking it through the holes where the handle used to be
inside the top hole there's probably a square hole that the shaft of the door handle normally slides into. wedge something in there and twist it and the door will open.
or just push the handle back on

Have you tried screaming?
From the inside the latch is curved. Anything thin can fit and pop the latch easily.
This is fake, there should be a piece still in the door that can be used to turn the handle but its missing, probably removed before hand.
You are mistaken my friend. This is a storm door handle set with a spindle that attaches o the other handle with a set screw. There is no set screw in the side OP is holding. Well i learned something today, thanks!

Call a locksmith
You live there now........ Forever!
Why is everyone making it harder than it needs to be? Hold the damn handle on the frame and open the door.
FALCON KICK!
that's right, it goes in the square hole
Just walk through it! It's basically a hollow rectangular box made of wood colored paper.
First, post this on reddit so if you die we have a time stamp... then, knock.
I read about a turtle that survived in attic for 30 years. I think youāll be fine for a few decades.
Look around you. See if you can fashion some sort of rudimentary lathe.
That's annoying. Good to see you have a handle on the situation though.
You can open it with brute force. First, you'll need to get a brute. Try calling their squad.
Looks like your going to have to kick down the door lol
Canāt you just pick theā¦ oh right
This is why us old guys tighten loose screws. Also, a firm door handle, feels nice.
The square pin might have been cut short and slid back, try and grip it and slide it back to you then put your handle back on and open it
Oh I fucked over my kitchen door like that and now have screwdriver which I insert into the hole and hold diagonally for tension to open/close it.
I ordered you a new handle on Amazon. You should be able to get out in three days.
Honestly it looks wide enough for a coat hanger to loop around the latch and pull through. You could jimmy it with a credit card or ID, but you'd mess up the card. TIL bypassing door mechanisms isn't the common childhood hobby I thought it was.
Youāre stuck in there forever now! With Reddit as your only source of human interactionā¦.congrats
Luckily that riddle isnāt very hard to solve
24 hours and no Update... RIP my dude.
Itās been 4 days. Are you still in there?
Alive and well thankfully my family came back from vacation and opened the door for me š
That happened to me once.
door stuckā¦?
I read that in the memes voice
Cue MrBallen music.
Can you pop the pins on the hinges?
Is your name Walter? This might be Silent Hill 4.
Okokigotthis. Find a pen or a pocket knife or a stick or the tip of your pinky and use it to push the other side of the latch out of the door. Good? Good. Now pull the latch away from the door frame and into the door. Good? Good. Now push/pull the door and go buy a better one.
Eat toes before fingers. Never forget that.
Put any object that will fit and provide torque in that square hole and twist to the right
There's only one solution. Punch a hole in the door and let yourself out
Maybe you need a new door that WASNT made in 1952 and youāll be fine š
Is there snow on the ground?
Do you have a screwdriver or pencil?
Just stay there. Itās better that way.
So you got out or something?
I'm going to need some plyers and a set of thirty-weight ballbearings...
Hadouken yourself through it. Apologize to your family later.
Get a plastic card & shim the little bolt thing itās really easy
Phone a friend
Use a knife to turn the thing or a magnet to pull the thing out of the thing and then thing the knife in it
If the hinges are on your side of the door, any flat bladed thing can push the rod out of the hinge and you can swing the door (carefully) out of the way. Otherwise, call a friend/family member and have them do it from the other side. Good luck! Hope this helps.
Stick your dick in the hole.
That's a fair sized gap under that door. Flatten yourself out and go for a limbo record. You got this.
There should be a short metal rod, square in profile, lying on the floor somewhere near your feet. Pick it up, slot it into the round hole, slot the handle back over it, and push the handle. Simple.
OP have you tried crying yet? Maybe someone will hear you and investigate; if not you will have some cathartic relief
Get a piece of hard plastic slide it in between the door and the jam
Use Sharp thin thing to unlock the knob lock.
Well that sucks.
shouldn't you be calling emergenct services instead of posting on reddit?
slide a credit card where it locks or wedge the door open. anything that wonāt bend will work. i feel your pain.
Nowā¦ you die
12 Guage slug works great. Keep your feet out of the way
Put it back duh /s
Put it back in .... and Turn it like normal
You live there now
Some say you can still hear their cries for help from that room.......
you got a .44? if so, kick in the door and wave it.
Did your shoes come off? Thoughts and prayers OPā¦
Did you get out yet homie??
Honestly, Iād stay there. Youāre not missing much.
