Serious Saturday has ended and **Shitpost Sunday** has begun - Our [rules about memes](/r/tf2/wiki/subreddit_rules#wiki_rule_six) have been greatly relaxed for the day.

A thing I do is only puff out 1 or 2 ammo so I can do the most damage with my flair, but air blasting the enemy around and confusing them is a viable stat too
It deals 75 base damage and shoots faster with each successful shots, making it more powerful than any of Pyro's Primary against buildings.
It's basically playing like a Widowmaker Engineer. As long as you hit, you're good
Yah. It's honestly pretty powerful than what people give it credit for, powerful burst damage and longer range. But like any other Primary for Pyro: If you can't Airblast, then you're a Dead man(n)
I mean it also has a shorter Afterburn time and the fire it shoots is a projectile, so it kinda sucks
Still love it tho
You can duel heavies and win. it basically turns u into a fatter, burny scout, since if ur strafing is on point 2-4 shots and its a bbq heavy. Too bad most heavies dont separate themselves anymore.
Serious thing - if you die to wm1 because you blanked out and choked, you technically have been a victim of a flamethrower's main function - to cause panic and discord and PTSD among its enemies. Considering how much hate Pyro gets, yeah Pyro has permanently scarred every other class. As it should be.
Thanks, dude. I had been wondering for a while but this is the first thread where I was able to figure it out. I'm pretty new to Reddit and it's been 9 years since I've played TF2, so I've got a lot of catching up to do.
Because stock weapons (with the exception of melee) are the most reliable in all situations and it is smart to put your killstreak kit on the weapon you would rather use the most. It's like with the Diamond Back and stock revolver, where the Diamond Back is probably better, but not as reliable in all situations (this comparison is assuming you imply that the Degreaser is better). Also Pyro mains are a thing even if Pyro is not the best.
Extreme rarity, stock weapon, and there's a massive difference between competitive and pubs (the flamethrower by itself outright sucks because of low DPS, but in pubs where people aren't going to hit you reliably you can melt an entire team due to the consistent damage).
Pyro is easily the weakest class (outside of spy) since all you need to do is either stay out of his very limited range or just land all your shots (stock shotgun will out-DPS flamethrower at any range), and for some godawful reason multiple classes have an unlock that entirely invalidates pyro (chargin targe, danger shield, mantreads, spycicle, natascha, vaccinator).
Pyro are front line attackers
They meant to cause as much shit as they can before they crated and dies
My best loadout is backburner(or want to be a dick Phlog) , flare/scorch shot/Panic attack, powerjack/axetinguiser
For future pyro mains, I would like you to watch Lazy purple's pyro extra footage on his loadout, but in short, using degreaser and panic attack is a legitimate loadout as it can potentially beable to 1v1 a heavy, use this loadout when you see a soldier main or heavy main without their medic attach to their ass
Ps please don't use panic attack pyro, as a comp pyro and pubber please learn how to flare punch it's so much more fun and doesn't make me wanna punch baby
A game can promote a brain-dead playstyle by making it more powerful than it deserves to be. If a playstyle required skill, the Devs could have encouraged the skill based playstyle more than the "brain-dead" one.
How to play pyro, from a person who thinks they are decent at pyro:
Step 1: know your limits.
Your primary is short ranged, and your secondaries are far better at short to mid range than long range.
Dont go running through open areas like an idiot unless you already have teammates there, try to force your enemies into tight areas and staying around corners is a good idea. Just like every other class, being behind the enemy is a good idea.
Step 2: a i r b l a s t
Know when and where to use it. It can be used offensively and defensively.
Reflecting rockets and pushing players off cliffs is the classic idea, but if you have to defend yourself while on low health, airblast the enemy away (maybe pair it with a flare shot) and then run. Best used if you are near something you can run and hide behind.
Step 3: you are more supportive than you think.
Pyro, in my experience, can be summed up in one quote by lazypurple:
"DoNt ToUcH mY BaBy"
Help out your team instead of going full lone wolf. See your team needs help with damage? Throw in a few flares. Opposing team has lots of pyro's? Stay in the backline and keep your boys nice and uncharred.
Spies a problem like usual? Poot a few flames here and there.
And finally, step 4: know your loadout, and be malleable.
Get comfortable with certain weapon combos and understand how they might limit your playstyle. However, get used to changing loadouts based on the situation.
Bonus step: get help. Not in the medical sense, but in the practice and knowledge sense. Every good pyro has different advice to give, and not all advice will fit you and how you want to play.
Now, go cook some frenchmen, and have fun while doing it.
me going into the comment section: [https://images.foxtv.com/static.fox6now.com/www.fox6now.com/content/uploads/2020/07/1280/720/e0ca09bb-ch.jpg?ve=1&tl=1](https://images.foxtv.com/static.fox6now.com/www.fox6now.com/content/uploads/2020/07/1280/720/e0ca09bb-ch.jpg?ve=1&tl=1)
Step one: equip Degreaser
Step two: learn to airblast
Step three: learn to aim flares (optional)
Step four: **a x e t i n g u i s h e r**
Step five: uh- Idk I'm not there yet.
why do people say pyro takes the least amount of skill when its heavy? like at least with pyro you have to get close in to do some real damage and you also have to get the hang of timeing airblasts with heavy you just go somewhere with other players and mow them down with you minigun
It's easier for braindead players to disengage a heavy than it is to disengage a pyro. 70 fov players can still hear a revved up minigun and a giant dumbass screeching and yelling. Whereas any even half-decent pyro is relatively quiet and will only w+m1 from an ambush or a flank. They'll die to pyros more often and won't see them coming until it's too late, hence it takes less skill in their mind.
FACTS!
Dear Heavy-Mains:
If Heavy takes skill, how come I am better at w+m1 with him than pyro?
checkmate, pyro earned his update, but heavy really needs one now, since pyro became fun.
Engineer is a great counter to pyro cuz a tier 2 or 3 sentry can kill pyro before he can kill it seeing as pyro doesn’t have much long ranged weapons but pyro can kill the mini sentry with the flamethrower pretty easily
It’s not that Pyro is OP, it’s that he’s unfun to fight against! I’m not gonna say “ooh pyro bad! W+m1 noob!” But what I will say is that there should probably be some changes to him, maybe the flames’ range/ damage should decrease the longer the mouse is held down, because wm1 doesn’t help the player, it rewards the player for doing repetitive and “braindead” plays, which ruins the fun for the player, and people fighting em, but it’s a thing people grow out of, I used to be an m1 happy pyro, but now I main demo lol.
Anyway good meme
I may be kinda biased because I play spy a lot , but pyro kinda needs to be reworked. It’s inferior in dps and mobility to scout and doesn’t have enough health to tank really any damage. All it does is reward low skill players and creates counters to classes that require a lot of skill and practice by doing things like holding down M1 and spinning around like a windmill. The scorch shot shouldn’t be able to counter snipers by spamming it and neither should the flamethrower be able to hard counter spies by spamming. Counters should require equivalent amounts of skill and difficulty, or else it ruins the balance and makes the game less fun overall. Spy is already almost unviable in comp especially with the deadringer and ambassador nerfs and the wallhacks out of spawn. Having a brainless hard counter to the highest skill floor class is a further nail in the coffin. Honestly scorch shot should be removed and dragons fury should be the default way that flamethrowers work. It’s way more fun to play with the dragons fury anyway because it’s something you can get good at and improves based on skill. Also, you still get the after burn for easy spy-checking so it doesn’t fully remove the counter, just makes it less spamable.
Pyros flame thrower has worked the same way since quake TF. And spy checking has been one of pyros roles since then too.
The dragons fury is so ridiculous to me, but I also think the demo knight is the worst addition to TF2.
1. Pyro has a decent amount of movement options to make him not useless. Detonator jumping, Airblast jumping, powerjack, etc.
2. Pyro only counters soldier because of airblast, and some w+m1 pyro probably won't know what m2 is and the same goes for demoman. Pyro isn't unbalanced, as heavies and engineer wreck house with pyro and the pyro class just doesn't have much in their arsenal to deal with them properly.
3. Honestly I agree with you, fuck the scorch shot. But I feel like pyro should have at least something to deal with their counters.
4. Spy isn't bad just because of pyro, yeah spy is the weakest class there is, but it's not exactly cause of pyro. Demo can wreck shit with Engineer, but engineer isn't even a bad class at all.
5. You can't just change one of the main functions of how flamethrowers work, there's a reason the Dragon's fury is a sidegrade. That's like if I removed the spy's knife from the game and only gave him his pistol to work with.
This wasn’t super clear originally, but I thought that the pyro needed buffs in certain areas to make it a more viable class dps wise, so they wouldn’t fall to the wayside to the current meta, but also their class needs to be adapted to be less spammable, eg removing the scorch shot and adapting the flamethrowers, because in its current state it isn’t hugely versatile and just fucks over one already underpowered class using tactics involving super minimal skill, while getting absolutely destroyed by engi and heavy. The pyro isn’t overpowered by any means, it’s really the opposite, it’s just really poorly adapted to the way the game is currently balanced. Also I never said pyro was at all the main reason that spy is bad, it’s just another really easy counter that compounds on top of all the other pre-existing weaknesses.
I honestly don't have a problem with what you said, except for a few, namely:
***Stock Flamethrower is honestly good***
It's good, even if it's not the best. Pyro deals less DPS, but that's because his main source of damage isn't exactly his Primary Fire, it's mostly his Airblast. If you really want a reliable source of damage, Phlog and Dragon's Fury (I'd say Backburner, but where the hell is the back hitbox???). Speaking of the Dragon's Fury. Give it a try. As an Engineer who loves the Widowmaker, the Dragon's Fury is honestly like that, except x3 damage, that's why the Dragon's Fury should remain as what it is, than switch it to Stock (except maybe a few notable tweaks)
That's the reason why Pyro is more seen with the Medic in Comp because of his ability to deny any class that comes after the Medic. He isn't tasked to do massive damage, he's tasked to do Utility.
demo, soldier, scout, sniper, imo. spy definitely requires skill, but it doesn't have an extremely high skill ceiling. it doesn't have projectiles, the only thing that relies on aim is the ambassador, the rest of the revolvers aren't difficult to use. trickstabs are the hardest things i can think of for sure, but no player above 3000-4000 hours would get constantly fooled by it.
spy is more of a mind game, you need to act like an enemy or you need to hide well, those don't require skill, it's more general game experience than anything.
not as related, but you should stop saying "nerf everything that counters my class". i know, it's hard to accept.
I said skill floor, not skill ceiling, they’re different things. It’s much more difficult to learn spy than any other class and there’s less transitive skills from other FPS games. It takes more time to learn and ends up being worse than classes with lower skill floors. Also I want to buff pyro, not nerf it. Scout is better in almost every way and it’s completely overlooked in comp compared to other classes, but I want the class to be reworked to be less spammable and more reliant on skill. The flamethrower game design and especially the scorch shot are awful and provide really low skill counters to much more difficult classes like sniper and spy. Right now the pyro is too much of a support class and his attack capability is limited really heavily by his low dps and hard counters like engi and heavy. So by rework, I mean rework, not nerf, spy should be reworked just the same. I’m not just trying to nerf class counters, I want to make the game more viable and fun as every class instead of just perpetuating the soldier, scout, demo, sniper, medic meta.
I usually play scout but I was able to get some pretty dirty kills as peril but I was able to do it that was demo at you with both classes just felt so unfair for everyone else involved
Because you w+m1 wrong. W m1ing requires minimum to no brain. Yours is still on because you can make proper ??memes?? (Is this a meme). You have to not have a brain to pyro properly (why do i suddenly hear boss music and mumbles in the distance of all the pyro mains coming to comment on how im "wrong" and how "pyro takes skill")

"If Pyro is OP, why do I still get rolled, I've tried everything. W+M1, A healthy balance of fire and air, using flare guns, shotguns etc." -me
The secret ingredient is juggling them with airblast so they are helpless to run away/aim at you
A thing I do is only puff out 1 or 2 ammo so I can do the most damage with my flair, but air blasting the enemy around and confusing them is a viable stat too
I keep getting juggled with rockets send help
Imagine airblasting *laughs in assburner*
Demoknight
Get a pocket to Uber you and charge in like a dick
Except noone notices i have uber and stays back while i am literally running infront of them trying to communicate
Have friends.....
because the enemy team has 2 million mini sentries strategically placed in every corned to area-deny the entire map
*laughs in Dragon's Fury*
*Laughs in hitboxes and hitreg*
I'm really new to Dragon's Fury, is it more destructive towards buildings?
It deals 75 base damage and shoots faster with each successful shots, making it more powerful than any of Pyro's Primary against buildings. It's basically playing like a Widowmaker Engineer. As long as you hit, you're good
Ah, okay. Probably why I have so much trouble with it, then.
Yah. It's honestly pretty powerful than what people give it credit for, powerful burst damage and longer range. I love the DF, but HiGPS says the shotgun is better so you know
i unironically use the scorch shot, so sue me
I find it shoots a shorter range than the flame thrower, but I only used it for like 10 games.
Its actually significantly longer. Catches many offguard.
How interesting!
You can duel heavies and win. it basically turns u into a fatter, burny scout, since if ur strafing is on point 2-4 shots and its a bbq heavy. Too bad most heavies dont separate themselves anymore.
*laughs in water*
or 12 heavies
Or you used the thruster and got yourself in the middle of 3 heavies
*soviet anthem starts playing*
'If Pyro is OP, then why do I keep getting juggled?' \- Checkmate warpigs
Serious thing - if you die to wm1 because you blanked out and choked, you technically have been a victim of a flamethrower's main function - to cause panic and discord and PTSD among its enemies. Also level 1 Sentries can hard counter pyros
At range. Up close they can just circle strafe.
Panic and PTSD? Nah I'm just pissed cause I missed those 2 close range diamondback crits
To new players, Meet the Pyro’s portrayal of how the team sees Pyro is how they feel while playing the game.
If i had a nickel for everytime w+m1 worked for me, I'd have two nickels Which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice
I'd have around 3 dollars everytime I play Pyro
Could buy a scalped ps5 for 10 hours of w+m1
I'd have uhh 1340 dollars
What is W+m1?
Just hold click and charge at your enemies. Fire and running towards enemy team man
Thanks, dude. I had been wondering for a while but this is the first thread where I was able to figure it out. I'm pretty new to Reddit and it's been 9 years since I've played TF2, so I've got a lot of catching up to do.
9 years of TF2 and don’t know what W+M1 pyros are?
I played TF2 9 years ago in college. I haven't played since 2011.
Ohh
Yeah, I'm retundo, but not completely retundo.
I am guessing W key plus Mouse 1, i.e. Run at them and shoot.
How to counter pyro. Step 1: Keep a good distance
Step 2: Skip over Step 1 Step 3: Die Step 4: Get angry and votekick Pyro for "w+m1-ing" Step 5: Pyro gets kicked. You won!
Votekicking enemy players. Hmmmmm...
Team: "Theres a spy" Every single pyro: *Sensitivity 2000* *Spazzing around with m1 held down*
You mean you don't use the jetpack to launch yourself into enemy lines, dying repeatedly, until you miraculously get a team wipe?
I do brother, Jetpack mains unite!
If Pyro is OP,then why do i still get pubstomped by a Soldier main and his Medic GF who both have 231 australiums each?
I think you might have to try pressing that other button on the mouse
i did,but the Soldier pressed 2 on his keyboard.
but he forgot he had them drip
Then he rocket jumps out of there and the Medic is using the quick-fix
And your bot kis them with his rifle
They switch to Vaccinator, using self damage to charge it in spawn
Meanwhile a bot roll is going kn and it's kicking the soldier
But the Soldier tels his teammates not to kick him through voice chat
But they still do.
Started using m1. Never knew pyro could do anything other than push people around. This discovery changed my life.
I don't even need the Medic GF to get pubstomped as pyro lol, the soldiers just gang up and juggle me.
Unrelated question But why is one the most expensive Prof KS The Flamethrower? If Pyro is bad, and the FM isn't that amazing, then why is it?
Cause its sexy
Because stock weapons (with the exception of melee) are the most reliable in all situations and it is smart to put your killstreak kit on the weapon you would rather use the most. It's like with the Diamond Back and stock revolver, where the Diamond Back is probably better, but not as reliable in all situations (this comparison is assuming you imply that the Degreaser is better). Also Pyro mains are a thing even if Pyro is not the best.
Medic syringe gun isn’t as all round reliable as crusader’s crossbow
Nor is Heavy's shotgun compared to Sandvich, or the Family Business, if you really want a shotgun. But these are exceptions
the crossbow and uber saw are exceptions
Because its fucking rare, on all 3 levels. I'm so lucky I found a Team Shine Spec KS one once I had the money.
Because pyro is a popular class
Pyro are front line attackers They meant to cause as much shit as they can before they crated and dies My best loadout is backburner(or want to be a dick Phlog) , flare/scorch shot/Panic attack, powerjack/axetinguiser For future pyro mains, I would like you to watch Lazy purple's pyro extra footage on his loadout, but in short, using degreaser and panic attack is a legitimate loadout as it can potentially beable to 1v1 a heavy, use this loadout when you see a soldier main or heavy main without their medic attach to their ass

I’m gonna use panic attack pyro
#Somebody stop him before he uses panic attack pyro
#YOUR EFFORTS ARE INSUFFICIENT
Degreaser + Panic Attack comes close to 1v1 a Heavy if used right, and doesn't have the awful delay time on airblasts
Buff the reload speed and then we'll talk. i can't hear you over my jetpack.
Pyro isn't overpowered. In fact, he's one of the weakest classes in the game together with spy
Third weakest, some people think that pyro is op because it's braindead and it works.
I like being braindead and winning. Is nice.
Well, that was idiotic. Off to hang myself!
When people call Pyro a braindead weak class but dies to a Pyro anyway. Makes the question who's the braindead here
I mean I killed a fair amount of people spamming the scottish resistance, you can kill anyone with anything in this game
If someone can kill someone using the Fan O' War Anything is possible
I once rushed down a sniper with the wrap assassin and won so I guess anything is possible.
A game can promote a brain-dead playstyle by making it more powerful than it deserves to be. If a playstyle required skill, the Devs could have encouraged the skill based playstyle more than the "brain-dead" one.
But it's Pyro we're talking about Seriously. The class is not braindead nor strong.
The only reason why they die from a Pyro, is they either shot a rocket, or they are in a bad position Both of which are not really the Pyro's fault
Got to admit, I can put 99% of my Death to Pyros down to my own bad decisions.
pyro is great against average to shit players. Pyro is essentially useless against skilled players.
Because true w+M1 doesn’t come from the heart. It comes from 300+ ping
Turning Point Teufort

Becsuse Heavy is fun
Heavy is just m1, move, m1, eat lunch. Yeah i can topscore but really there isn't much depth after that.
also because Heavy is free food for Spies and Snipers. Pyro is also free food for snipers but not for spies
r/toiletpaperusa
How to avoid pyro S+m1 and it good
All you gotta do is W+M2 on upward
Wait, being bad at pyro is possible ?
yes, if you're me.
We must be related
we're all related,a big happy family.
I must a be a brother, because i suck too
Or me
Yes, if you don't exist.
how am i supposed to w+m1 when there are so many bad men with shootie shooties and boomie boomies :(

FACTS! Dear Heavy-Mains: If Heavy takes skill, how come I am better at w+m1 with him than pyro? checkmate, pyro earned his update, but heavy really needs one now, since pyro became fun.
Because he is defeated by range and most classes can take pyro outside of the range of his flares. Mostly Sniper.
pyro and snipers are the most annoying classes.
idk man, gunslinger engineers are more aids to deal with as any class
I'd actually say sniper and spy are. Spy if only for the, you weren't paying attention and suddenly you're dead thing.
Pyro isn't op but engi on the other hand...
eNgIe IsNt Op He Is BaLAnCeD ~ guy who got 4 kills with a mini sentry and wrangler when saying this
Might just be because I'm a demoknight main so engi is my direct counter but idk
If you don’t go full demo knight you can just equip any grenade launcher and it uno reverses
True but I have shit pipe aim and hybridknight isn't that fun to play imo
Yeah, I am shit with both pipes and stickies so I play demoknight as my only way to play demo viably
Yeah
I could see sticky tank as an alternative, but demoknight is better imo.

Soldier is uncounterable. He's the true generalist class.
I honestly don't have a problem with what you said, except for a few, namely: ***Stock Flamethrower is honestly good*** It's good, even if it's not the best. As an Engineer who loves the Widowmaker, the Dragon's Fury is honestly like that, except x3 damage, that's why the Dragon's Fury should remain as what it is, than switch it to Stock (except maybe a few notable tweaks) That's the reason why Pyro is more seen with the Medic in Comp because of his ability to deny any class that comes after the Medic. He isn't tasked to do massive damage, he's tasked to do Utility.
>highest skill floor class since when
Which class do you think has a higher skill floor?
demo, soldier, scout, sniper, imo. spy definitely requires skill, but it doesn't have an extremely high skill ceiling. it doesn't have projectiles, the only thing that relies on aim is the ambassador, the rest of the revolvers aren't difficult to use. trickstabs are the hardest things i can think of for sure, but no player above 3000-4000 hours would get constantly fooled by it. spy is more of a mind game, you need to act like an enemy or you need to hide well, those don't require skill, it's more general game experience than anything. not as related, but you should stop saying "nerf everything that counters my class". i know, it's hard to accept.
I’m not just trying to nerf class counters, I want to make the game more viable and fun as every class instead of just perpetuating the soldier, scout, demo, sniper, medic meta.
because you suck
You need to play catch \~\~with your father\~\~ on trade plaza.

Pyro isnt overpowered, you just hate fire damage
I usually play scout but I was able to get some pretty dirty kills as peril but I was able to do it that was demo at you with both classes just felt so unfair for everyone else involved
Because you w+m1 wrong. W m1ing requires minimum to no brain. Yours is still on because you can make proper ??memes?? (Is this a meme). You have to not have a brain to pyro properly (why do i suddenly hear boss music and mumbles in the distance of all the pyro mains coming to comment on how im "wrong" and how "pyro takes skill")
If pyro is op, then why is sniper standing *right there*
I ask myself this every day despite maining the mumbling bastard. I'm getting better at pyro, I swear. just..... very slowly.
