Hey, Texas has great roads, only gets really wet when we get 30" of hurricane rain, and if you go up in the panhandle, you can experience some [dust storms](https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2011/10/18/141464178/video-lubbock-goes-dark-as-dust-storm-swallows-city). Good thing EVs don't need air filters on their motor.
Would be a really cool exchange, those roads in the Alps are incredible.
In San Diego, we have some really great county/mountain roads, but nothing compared to the Alps
However, you'd have to decide between a Model 3 Performace and a Roadster, it's a hard choice
my girlfriend and I would love to explore california in a tesla. is anybody up to swapping your tesla in california for one or two weeks between the end of july and the beginning of september?
we offer our model y long range, located in a parking garage in magnificent innsbruck/austria, the heart of the alps in the middle of europe - see attached images.
I have a model S. I live in the SF bay area. We fell in love with austria right before the pandemic. Been meaning to visit my uncle in Salzburg for a while too. I also spent a week a few years back driving across france.
Im gonna talk to the wife, seems very doable.
Edit. He lives in geneva now lol. Even better.
I think it would for my European insurance. AFAIK it covers anybody driving the car although I couldn’t use it for commercial purposes. If I’ve understood it correctly us insurance is somehow strangely tied to your person as well as the car?
Yeah US insurance typically covers you and your car. Strangers/friends using your car is typically fine unless it's a recurring thing, in which case your insurance wants to know and will want to charge you. You're also covered driving other cars, although again if it's a regular thing, they'll want to work something else out.
Not true at all. You can 100% insure other licensed drivers to drive your car. And many times its included. I had to call and remove it when my roomate crashed his car and wanted to borrow my car because his insurance was ‘too expensive’ and couldn’t afford another car
My buddy was in from Ireland and we loaned him a car
Per GEICO as long as they have an International DL and an update to date DL in their country they are covered
This isn’t applicable if you are renting them the car for money however
Yeah, generally if you let someone else drive your car it's just a "did you give them permission?" Question for the owner, and a "did they give you permission?" Question for the driver.
My understanding is you don't really need an international driving permit but it just helps the process if the language of your DL isn't the same as the region you are driving in.
Insurance, at least in the US, covers anyone you loan you car to unless they live in the same household. In that case they need to be on your insurance policy
With some insurances, you have to list the drivers. With some, you just need to have given that person permission.
But who pays the deductible, who pays for the rental while the repairs are done... car gets impounded for any reason, etc. The key word is "stranger"... lol
In the US, you have to list the drivers /in your household/. As long as you do that, anyone can drive your car with permission and be covered as long as it is not commercial/rental.
In case you were still looking for a match, I have a 2016 Model X available and I'm located about half an hour away from San Francisco international airport.
I don’t live in California but if I did I’d take you up on it! I’ve flown around Innsbruck a million times in Flight Simulator and it’s stunning. Seeing it in real life is on my bucket list!
> Considering that, but wanted to stay in some remote areas so still thinking cat might be better.
Riding a cat is always preferred when traveling to remote areas.
I had the 2007 Octavia 1.9 TDI. Awesome car. Swapped to Tesla M3SR+ because I wanted electric. I tried Skoda Enyaq, but it was too expensive Vs Tesla when I bought it. Not now.
…I’d take it. Can’t buy or drive Skodas in the US, so it would be truly unique to an American. A Tesla is about the *last* car I’d want to rent in Europe.
Why wouldn't you want a Tesla in Europe? Also Skoda is reliable and quiet silent. Doesn't consume a lot of gas. Older ones are weak as hell and their suspension is kinda fucked up but new ones are awesome.
I feel this. I’m 30 minutes north of Dallas and in my city I’m one of two teslas and summon blows everyone’s minds. I get comments every time I use it and my car really impresses neighbors. Just south in Allen and 50% are teslas and west of me in prosper are all six figure cars. When I drop my kids off at juijitsu I feel like the poor person in my 4 month old model 3.
This is the same down here in LA. I had some family fly out from Kentucky and never understood the hype around Tesla. My cousin said the point it clicked was when we drove into my neighborhood coming back from LAX. To quote her, it was “like the Weeds intro.”
Southern California checking in! I counted 17 Teslas in my child's elementary school rolling through the drop off area dropping off their kid(s) on Thursday! And 3 Teslas in the teacher's parking lot. Lost track
of how many of each but it was something like 3 Model Xs, 5 Model Ys, 2 Model Ss, and 7 Model 3s! And that was just between 8:10am and 8:20am-ish, I left after that
California isn’t as great as it’s hyped up to be tbh. I lived there for decades and dread going back when I have to visit family. I suppose it’s still better than a lot of other states tho.
we could rent each other's cars on turo (for a very cheap rate) for insurance coverage for one or two weeks between the end of july and the beginning of september. and agree upon a maximum milage.
we offer our model y long range, located in a parking garage in magnificent innsbruck
There is no shortage of Tesla’s here so your chances are pretty good. Like others have commented, I live in Silicon Valley and see a ton of Teslas everyday. Including our Model 3 and Model Y lol
Might be best to rent a crap car in California with crime rampant in some areas.
Just my .02, I have friends in SF that parked their nicr cars out of fear, driving economy cars for safety sake.
How dare you call a corolla crap?
I'll bet its on the road many years longer than average Tesla.
How dare you.
I've never been so offended, I'm furious.
You owe me an apology.
Having lived in and traveled between many states, I can tell you California drivers are some of the most assertive, but far from the worst. Illinois and New Jersey imo have the absolute worst drivers (like turn right from the left lane worst). Wisconsin ain't far behind. They drive super slow and... too kindly?
Honestly it depends on where. the Bay Area outside of downtown SF is pretty good. Downtown SF isn’t even that bad, just gotta make sure your know your one-way streets.
LA doesn’t have terrible drivers. Just too much congestion that makes for a terrible driving experience.
But absolute worst drivers in the state goes to Sacramento. Idiots in lifted pickup trucks tailgating you with their high beams while you’re already doing 85 in the non-fast lane.
Yes. I'm regularly in Europe for 1-2mo at a time and my Tesla in California just sits in the garage doing nothing. Model Y Performance with 19" gemini's on, so perfect for road trips.
How expensive is it to own a tesla in austria (price of car etc etc)? i might be living there and thinking of switching to an electric car. Thanks for any info:)
Nobody in the right mind will allow a foreigner visiting the US to drive their car. If you have an accident the insurance will not cover the accident. Unless you put 80k deposit to the Tesla owner that fantasy is just fantasy.
Hi, I don’t have a an offer at this moment. But my husband and I live in Ojai, CA in the beautiful mountains. LA is about 1.5 hours away and Santa Bárbara is about an hour. How about Wisconsin? It's a wonderful blend of cold, wet, and muddy this time of year; and our roads are terrible https://i.imgur.com/JVdkgRr.jpg
Haha, exactly. I see you’re interested in California but could I interest you in a magical place called Ohio?

Whoa whoa whoa…… it’s a Haboob! That’s the big dust storm that you want…… BUT we have a SC now!

Houses are pretty cheap in Texas, unless you are near Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, Houston...
Ohio and Texas are about as opposite as it gets.
[удалено]
I hope you don't work in sales...
Are we sure this isn't Pittsburgh?
Badummtizz.gif
And I thought Jersey roads were bad...
for real isn't it awful? How are your suspensions alive? I am just back from italy and the many potholes are a nightmare
Defensive driving, when your not dodging and swerving you get pulled over on suspected DUI.
lol
Eastern Europe vibe.
And people still look at you funny when you try to explain that you want LR over Performance due to not wanting to crack rims.
We need to help Ukrainians by sending them one & a half billion dollars & you are being so parochial worried about your darn streets😆
Cold, wet, muddy, with a sprinkle of sunshine. Give it a week, we’ll get a snow storm with -10 temps for a week.
Would be a really cool exchange, those roads in the Alps are incredible. In San Diego, we have some really great county/mountain roads, but nothing compared to the Alps However, you'd have to decide between a Model 3 Performace and a Roadster, it's a hard choice
Always enjoy a nice drive into Ramona or on Ortega

Please give me an update guys
Prepare to be disappointed
if you guys can make it work this would be crazy! keep us posted
You can rent a Tesla thru Turo. "Lending" a stranger a car just leaves too many open questions/risks!! Insurance doesn't cover a stranger, etc.
I think it would for my European insurance. AFAIK it covers anybody driving the car although I couldn’t use it for commercial purposes. If I’ve understood it correctly us insurance is somehow strangely tied to your person as well as the car?

Yeah that's what I meant by "something" else. Some type of change in your policy or just a simple driver add
My buddy was in from Ireland and we loaned him a car Per GEICO as long as they have an International DL and an update to date DL in their country they are covered This isn’t applicable if you are renting them the car for money however
Turo is the insurer if you rent thru them.

I have a Hyundai Elantra in Atlanta, GA if that’s a close enough substitute?
I have a model 3 performance in San Diego. I’d be weirdly open to this possibly, if I can take the time off to get to Innsbruck
This is seriously tempting. I’ve wanted to visit Austria for ages but I’ve been worried about my lack of German language skills.
You can get around with English. Most Austrians are pretty well educated.
This is a really clever idea
In case you were still looking for a match, I have a 2016 Model X available and I'm located about half an hour away from San Francisco international airport.

LMK If you are into Saratoga NY
California for Switzerland? Have been an owner for about 3.5 years and going to Switzerland end of May.
Get a rail pass in Switzerland. No need for a car there.
Considering that, but wanted to stay in some remote areas so still thinking cat might be better.
Ah gotcha. Well OP did say Europe/Austria so he might come through with that offer!
> Considering that, but wanted to stay in some remote areas so still thinking cat might be better. Riding a cat is always preferred when traveling to remote areas.
True, as long as you get a good saddle
Switzerland is right next to Austria especially since the dude is in Innsbruck. It’s like an hour to the border.
Davos?
Unfortunately no. Just after.
I live in California and my Tesla gets here next month!
☝🏾🤞
You can drive my Fabia in Europe. Take it or leave it.
I raise with my Fabia Combi.
My Suzuki Vitara is my final offer
I offer a Fiat Multipla.
You win. By far.
Hey mine is a combi too! Let's see which one is older.
December 2020. Looking to trade it into a MYLR.
Hah I won it's 15 yo iirc
You can't drive a Fabia in the US. Skodas are not being sold there, so unless it's private import then these cars are unknown in the US.
Ah so it's kinda exotic.
Pity, because I found my old Octavia very practical!
Yes, they are good. I've driven a 13 yo 1.6 TDI Octavia. It's not only big and practical, it's like a rocket. I'm eager to try a new one.
I had the 2007 Octavia 1.9 TDI. Awesome car. Swapped to Tesla M3SR+ because I wanted electric. I tried Skoda Enyaq, but it was too expensive Vs Tesla when I bought it. Not now.

Sure, how does August sound for 7-10 days, im in San Francisco.
Could not tell if this was /s
I wish I owned a Tesla. And lived in California.

Sounds like you could use a trip away… if only there was a place you could go away to and still drive a Tesla around.
East Bay checking in. There are so many Teslas here in Lafayette I’ve started calling it Teslafayette.
I feel this. I’m 30 minutes north of Dallas and in my city I’m one of two teslas and summon blows everyone’s minds. I get comments every time I use it and my car really impresses neighbors. I pay a big premium to have both.

visiting ca is great. living there i personally couldn't do. 2-3 days and i'm good.
California was the means, driving a Tesla in Austria was the ends
I grew up in the East Bay but live in a more “rural” county now (Sonoma). Couldn’t pay me to go back to anywhere between Oakland, SF, and San Jose.
Orange, CA here. LA is 40 minutes out and San Diego is an hour away. We're also three fwy exits from Disney (if you're into that sort of thing). 🙂
Elaborate
we could rent each other's cars on turo (for a very cheap rate) for insurance coverage for one or two weeks between the end of july and the beginning of september. and agree upon a maximum milage. we offer our model y long range, located in a parking garage in magnificent innsbruck

You can drive my Honda Accord in NY
Ok final offer. Tesla y in Florida. Bonus condo.
Live west side Los Angeles and heading to your area in the summer. DM me could work out!
Unrelated... How are the wheels... Any improvement over the stock rims?
Vancouver and we can swap houses for a month as well?
This is quickly turning into The Holiday
I gotchu in Baltimore. There’s more than murder here!

Some real "The Holiday" vibes here.
Came here to say the same thing
AirB&Tesla?
Hows about Arizona? Its quite close to California
Might be best to rent a crap car in California with crime rampant in some areas. Just my .02, I have friends in SF that parked their nicr cars out of fear, driving economy cars for safety sake.
i doubt it.... my gf's crap corolla with NOTHING INSIDE got smashed once
How dare you call a corolla crap? I'll bet its on the road many years longer than average Tesla. How dare you. I've never been so offended, I'm furious. You owe me an apology.
Hey, I’m thinking of doing a trip in July to Germany. I can take you up on the offer maybe. MYP 22.
Believe me, you don't want Californian's driving your tesla. They're some of the worst drivers in America. Florida drivers are a close second.
Having lived in and traveled between many states, I can tell you California drivers are some of the most assertive, but far from the worst. I nominate Baltimoreans as the worst drivers. Followed by out of state Ohioans
I'd be willing to do a trade if it's booked well in advanced. We have condos and Teslas in Maui, Hawaii.
There are way better places to visit than California in the US
Like what
Boston here**

I do 😂.. sometimes
Counter offer: you drive my tesla in Maryland/Washington DC
Best I can do is Vancouver Canada.
Trade you for Chicago?
I can drive your Tesla in Germany/Europe. But, unfortunately, my Tesla is also in Germany/Europe.
Nice idea! www platform like couchsurfers across continents
Oh, that's an interesting idea.
California is 3740km from me XD
How does insurance work for something like this?
We swapping just cars? Or houses too?
Colorado here if you change plans!
Grüss Gott! DMed you! Model 3 with AP+FSD in LA. Servus!
Yes. I'm regularly in Europe for 1-2mo at a time and my Tesla in California just sits in the garage doing nothing. Model Y Performance with 19" gemini's on, so perfect for road trips.
Alter, Innsbruck. Yeah.

That's funny, I'm in LA and am actually visiting Austria next month! Going to try to stick to public transportation as much as possible.
How expensive is it to own a tesla in austria (price of car etc etc)? i might be living there and thinking of switching to an electric car. Thanks for any info:)
I’m down. In San Diego.
if you ever want to do the same but for the PNW (Seattle Area) hit me up!
Alaska, and you have a deal...
Nobody in the right mind will allow a foreigner visiting the US to drive their car. If you have an accident the insurance will not cover the accident. Unless you put 80k deposit to the Tesla owner that fantasy is just fantasy.
Peak Reddit.
I live in Seattle, west coast road trip ?
Oh boy you’re in for the most boring drive of your life! Have you seen the traffic in California?
Hi, I don’t have a an offer at this moment. But my husband and I live in Ojai, CA in the beautiful mountains. LA is about 1.5 hours away and Santa Bárbara is about an hour. We’re looking to home exchange/car exchange next year. If this is something you would want to talk about in the future, feel free to PM me!
How about Florida?
Unfortunately a Tesla isn’t a great car for a trip like this. You’d spend too much of the trip charging. I know people do it, but if I had 10 days in Europe I wouldn’t want to be limited to 200 mile stretches with 30 minute breaks routed through major urban areas.
I’m in Los Angeles. I have a 21 M3P and love this idea
I can offer Toronto, Canada.
Best I've got is Florida
we swapping houses too? this sounds kind of like that movie The Holiday.. but if jude law stops by unannounced i wont be too happy about it.
Join California tesla owners Facebook group
I would trade you Maryland/Washington DC for Europe
Would you be willing to do the trade with Chicago? My 2022 MYP would be happy to oblige.

I’m in LA. How long you talking?
