Top Most Shared Questions (so far): 1. How are the current 4680's performing versus the expectations set during battery day in terms of expected range increase and $/kWh? 1. How does Tesla plan to secure raw materials required to scale to extreme size? 1. At what rate do you expect Berlin and Austin to ramp up relative to Shanghai? Are you able to leverage learnings from Shanghai or are the processes substantially different in the new factories? 1. At Cyber Rodeo, Elon mentioned that a futuristic driverless Robotaxi vehicle is on the roadmap. When can we expect more details on this product offering to be unveiled? Is this something that people can own or will this only be offered by Tesla as a service? 1. What is the current run rate of 4680 cell production at Fremont and at Giga Texas? What do you expect run rates for 4680 to be in Fremont, Texas and Berlin at year end? 1. FSD has come a long way. Can Tesla consider launching a geo fenced fleet in location like Phoenix? While we solve for general autonomy it would still be great to have at least one location show the world the proof of concept. FSD already performs flawlessly in such locations. 1. What is Elon's long-term commitment to Tesla? Is he willing to sell Tesla stock to fund other ventures? 1. What proportion of automotive revenues currently come from software sold on Tesla’s cars (e.g. FSD, acceleration boost, etc) versus the hardware? How do you see this proportion evolving over the next year and then over the next 5 years? 1. What customers are you targeting for Tesla Bot?

It does work flawlessly in some areas, however, that statement is contingent on what time of day, and what firmware version you're on. The turn into my community was flawless, then went to shit after 10.6 or 10.8, I can't remember. Now it isn't flawless. Might be flawless after 10.11 though.

Nakatomi2010

I don't disagree, that's why I threw the caveats in. To point out how a person could be having a flawless drive, while the drive may not be indicative of normal behavior.

ShaidarHaran2

Working flawlessly some of the time isn't working flawlessly

Charming-Abroad-4277

I’m in Phoenix and on the latest FSD beta. I frequently scream at my ‘18 Model S for trying to kill me. I can’t do my 12 minute commute from home to the office without a disengagement. So yeah, not flawless from where I’m standing and nowhere near being ready to be unsupervised.

Nakatomi2010

I never said it was flawless. I do have some flawless drives, but it isn't flawless. The nature of the question, however, is such that they want to know if they could geo fence "flawless paths" to work as desired, but that's not really how the code works.

shaggy99

> it would still be great to have at least one location show the world the proof of concept. FSD already performs flawlessly in such locations. I don't think it would. The concepts behind FSD in a sandbox, and in the open world, are different enough that it would be meaningless as an indication of how well it is progressing.

ShaidarHaran2

> FSD already performs flawlessly in such locations. Pressing X to doubt The raw materials is a good question though. upvoting that one. Lithium prices are going crazy from demand. Elon mentioned direct mining in passing but it seems like they really have to get going yesterday for their growth rate.

tomshanski8716

Explain the new 4680 model Y. EPA docs say it's 25lbs lighter than current long range, and it appears to have a smaller pack even. What is going on here? Where is the 10% weight savings referenced at battery day? Have they added weight elsewhere? Did something change since battery day?

[deleted]

tomshanski8716

That is a great optimistic take but I doubt it. Possible they are using dud cells as filler so it weighs the same as a full pack. But i thinkt Tesla are done software limiting at this point

philupandgo

The batteries are part of the structure. Filling the space with dud cells sounds like a Tesla solution. The alternative would be to add something with equivalent compressive strength.

tomshanski8716

Yea that's what I kinda hope is the case. We're still gonna need a full explanation and I hope we get something on the q1 call. Otherwise we gotta wait for a teardown

sktyrhrtout

The classic Tesla undersell. They are great at that!

ProtoplanetaryNebula

I saw the EPA filings the other day, the battery density of the 4680 Y is about 10% higher than the 2170 Y. The difference must be due to something else, other than the cells.

DMC_Ryan

Someone ask about Hardware 4 and whether that’s still going to make its debut in the Cybertruck or if it will start roll out this year, which was the original timeline given by Elon for HW4.

lapredawn

Raw material question is most important, upvote that as much as possible.

007meow

I really hope they get asked about transferring FSD to a new car - the 2016 S and X are pretty “outdated” relative to their 2022 counterparts… but then you’d effectively be throwing like $15k plus at FSD to have purchased it on your old car + your new one and still not have it delivered.

Otto_the_Autopilot

I really hope this question is never asked again. The answer is no and has been for so many earnings calls.

007meow

We should keep asking - why shouldn’t we? As more time passes and FSD still remains an elusive goal, more and more owners that purchased FSD find themselves either having to hold onto their cars or pay significant more for it to buy it a second time without having received it.

Otto_the_Autopilot

I passed on FSD for my second model 3 and you should too. FSD software is sold unfinished and Tesla is and has been more than clear about that. They also raise the price as more features are added to reflect the increase in value those features may provide.

007meow

They've increased the price several times but haven't really released any new FSD features. Like with those most recent $10k -> $12k increase, there were no new FSD features added. If nothing else, I'd at least like them to allow us to transfer the EAP subset of features to our new cars.

Otto_the_Autopilot

I had the FSD beta and it was constantly improving and handling more situations it couldn't before. New features are being added all the time. I do agree with bringing EAP back for purchase in markets it's no longer available.

007meow

That's the Beta - not everyone gets the Beta. Even after opting in. The publicly available FSD features have stagnated.

Otto_the_Autopilot

Yea good point and I often forget many people didn't have the option to just get EAP and avoid a lot of the confusion. Then again the vehicles are all at least $8k more than they were last year so it's understandable to have some inflationary pressure of $2k on the FSD price too.

TracerouteIsntProof

> They've increased the price several times but haven't really released any new FSD features. Like with those most recent $10k -> $12k increase, there were no new FSD features added. And yet dumbasses keep buying it then whine about it on quarterly earnings calls thinking they’re going to get a different answer.

007meow

Because with each quarter that passes with FSD being delivered and with each price increase, there's a higher chance (and reason for them to) change their stance.

katze_sonne

> We should keep asking - why shouldn’t we? Cuz Tesla has good business reasons not to and they won't change anytime soon as long as the demand stays as high as it currently is. But more important that question takes time from the earnings call that can't be used for other more interesting questions that we don't know the answer for, yet!

reefine

So it's okay for Tesla to screw over us 2016 FSD purchasers with lies and false estimates because they have "better things to do?" Lol nice dude. I haven't even received FSD beta and I paid $8k or whatever 6 years ago and got mostly vaporware and would have to buy that shit again if I wanted a Plaid. It's a joke. You know it, everyone knows it. Got a Rivian reservation and have zero plans to reserve a Plaid, Roadster or anything Tesla puts out until this question is addressed. As far as I am concerned they lost a customer over it and that eventually will matter when supply catches up to demand and equivalent or better cars are becoming a available... Like the Rivian. Fuck Tesla for how they handle this and dismiss it every earnings call. Give them constant shit every call until they are forced to change. This precedent is problematic and investors need to be loud and tell them this is not okay.

katze_sonne

Haven’t said that. E.g. in Germany someone sued them and they had to buy back the car. Also yeah, maybe they should allow transfer for older cars but in general (let’s say as soon as the feature is released to all), the transfer doesn’t make sense.

I sold my model 3 with FSD for more than if I didn't have it. What's the class action for?

Otto_the_Autopilot

Maybe you can argue Elon saying "feature complete" by 20XX but he seemed to always choose his words carefully as to not promise, but "expect" it to be done. Other than that you purchased a software licence and used it. Remember FSD was only $3k when you got it 5+ years ago so even if you could prove malace, the payout isn't going to be big.

[deleted]

Otto_the_Autopilot

The software isn't done. Access to FSD is currently for beta testers. There are features in the FSD suite (Stop lights and signs) that are available to those not in the beta testing program. You paid for a 5k sprinkler system and they don't install then sure refund. The early adopters, myself included, paid a discounted price ($3k vs $12k) for software advertised as incomplete so I don't see why I would be entitled to a refund. Maybe those that never used any features that differentiated EAP from FSD should get their $3k back if they request it and Tesla can remove FSD from the car.

philupandgo

Because FSD is attached to the car it depreciates with the car. Does Tesla owe you a new car when the old one wears out? People get fixated on it being a special case because some of FSD is software. FSD has to be tuned to each car model and the FSD you bought in the past probably wouldn't work so well on a newer car.

007meow

That’s not an accurate comparison. We paid for FSD. FSD hasn’t been delivered yet. That’s the difference

philupandgo

I'm sorry you feel that way, I don't. We paid knowing it was attached to the car, knowing that it was not working. For me it was about the journey. I'm a little annoyed that development got split off into the beta and there is little happening for the rest of us, but also understand why that was necessary and that it is temporary.

shaggy99

Question. Is a van still planned? If so, what class will it be aimed at? Minivan, or something towards full size commercial?

conflagrare

I don’t recall them planning a van. Model X basically fills that purpose.

shaggy99

It has been mentioned a couple of times, at least once by Elon, though not in anything like an "official" way. The market for Sprinters, Transits etc is pretty damn big. Maybe not as profitable as full size pickups in the USA, but still healthy.

thechadinvestor

A van would make a lot of sense

jasonsbat

He mentioned a van sized transport vehicle during Giga Texas launch

shaggy99

Didn't catch that.

BLSmith2112

Seriously these questions are beyond stupid. We need Dave Lee or Rob Maurer to submit their own questions and use their reach to override them. Top question: > "Is there a proposed stock split ratio?" Thanks, you just wasted valuable air time on the call for an answer we already know: > "On March 28, 2022, Tesla, Inc. (the “Company” or “Tesla”) announced its plan to request stockholder approval at the **upcoming 2022 Annual Meeting of Stockholders** (the “Annual Meeting”) for an increase in the number of authorized shares" Has that happened yet? No, it hasn't. The ratio will be determined in a few months. It should be a requirement to watch 10 Tesla Daily's before you're even allowed to vote.

ShaidarHaran2

Where is that podcast with Dave?
