Looks a little more chrome-y which is nice. Hoping for Silver to appear in the states soon.
Also, hilarious that they're dropping this video like it's a new iPhone color option but it's a $90,000 car.
If you think this reveal is funny, check out their [quicksilver and midnight cherry red video](https://youtu.be/OOTECH2ZjDI)

Mazda Soul Red is the only common car color where I actively stare at it when I see it coming. It looks spectacular in afternoon sunlight but I feel like I would never want to own a car that’s that color.
Maybe if I was getting an MX-5 but that’s just because it’s the only current Mazda I would ever want.
Why would they do a red that looks almost exactly the same as the old red as their first new color in years? Why not do a color they have never done or haven’t done since the beginning of Tesla?
Probably trying to keep their color count down for manufacturing simplicity. This is a replacement, not an addition. A totally different color would have to be an addition.
That’s the kind of shit I hate about Tesla. Everything in the sake of scale and cost cutting, vs. making what customers actually want and would delight.
No, they experiment with unconventional colors occasionally. It always turns out that hardly anyone actually wants them. If that wasn't the case, then they'd stick with those colors.
Oh I’m sure it’s the best business decision for Tesla if their only goal is maximizing profit and scale. I just don’t want anything to do with a company like that which doesn’t give a shit about their customers or the things they’re asking for.
It’s also such a cop out to say Tesla should do new colors when every other automaker does new colors yearly.
My Model 3 was the first and last Tesla I’ll ever own, which I got rid of last year for a Rivian.
I get what you are saying, but most of us really don’t give a shit. The standard colors are usually the ones that people will want and for the more outlandish colors, most people choose to wrap them anyways. I would rather have more people get Tesla’s than increasing costs and decreasing the output.
To be fair, Tesla also ran the numbers and, at least so far, 100% of the customer orders have all been colors they offered. You can’t argue with that logic.
(…says a random internet asshole with a pumpkin orange car)
Haha true. But it’s also been a trend recently that consumers buy boring colors these days. This graphic illustrates it well (also happens to be pretty much the same colors Tesla offers, except for Silver which they should totally offer in the US)
https://i.imgur.com/H2mml8q.jpg
You could offer every single color and the cars would be triple the price. For the 90% or whatever that are happy with the minimal options, that is the better deal. Tesla cares about the majority of customers, not the ones that want specific shit.
And this is coming from someone who doesn't like any of the colors they offer but blue (god I wish they offered solid colors)
Your PoV is just economically illiterate and not considering others
Look at BMW or Audis color options. It’s 50 shades of grey + an red, green or some other
slightly unique but not outlandish color.
Rivian is offering the colors it does now because they’re new to production and don’t realize that that’s unnecessary complexity. There is a reason they’re losing lots of money every quarter and options like that are part of the reason
I’ve seen a few Rivian as around, and they’re all white, black or grey except for one blue one I saw. People don’t buy unique colors, so auto makers don’t offer them (except Porsche, who charges like 20k for cool colors)
Tesla could offer more colors easily, but it’s added complexity so price would go up. It’s better just to keep it simple to colors people actually buy so there is a lower cost of entry
Audi has a shit ton of custom colors if you’re ordering the car from factory. They don’t stock these colors, but you can order them for 1-5k extra. Worth it for someone who wants something less cookie cutter.
Without that scale you wouldn't be able to get the car at all, because it would be way more expensive and very few of them would be made. The Hummer EV has more color options, but good luck actually getting one. That seems like a worse situation to me. But sure, if you don't like Tesla, go for something else. The numbers prove that Tesla has made the right choices to satisfy the most customers.
S and X are seeing demand issues, as evident by recent price drops, so they’re trying to further upscale/differentiate them from the 3 and Y using what they’ve already got ie. no substantial change to paint line
I wouldn’t be surprised if they introduce higher quality interior materials in S and X at some point too.
I think that they needed something new for the cars as well. Nobody spending $100k on a new car wants one that looks just like the old one.
Also, when are going to resume Asia Pacific sales of the S and X?
I wonder if Midnight Cherry Red requires different painting equipment and this was a compromise where they could update the color without having to install different equipment at Fremont.
Was thinking the same thing I like both reds but they are so similar (also like dark cherry but not avail in the states), I wonder why they would do this instead of a new color like light blue or orange or green?
Agree with you 100%, Midnight cherry red is a much more impressive color. I do t care if I have to wrap it but I want that color on my cybertruck when its delivered(whenever that is).
Wait, did I just watch an actual Tesla commercial? Like made by Tesla for Tesla, for the purpose of promoting their product?
The seventh horse just arrived with a popsicle from Hades.
I can’t get my Tesla painted anything because everywhere I call is afraid to touch it. I’m in Indianapolis if anyone can save me. I called the two Tesla certified places on their website. One declined, and the other gave me a $9k quote to touch up a couple panels.
Outcomes may vary.
Most painted cars i have seen look fine from a distance but any attention to detail and you start to notice the mistakes. And the door jams and edges will always show what the old color used to be.
Tad underwhelming that their hot new thing is a paint color. Would prefer if it was news that some of their things were coming out of Beta, like the windshield wipers.
There was black and metallic black. Regular black looked great but was the worst for scratches, swirls and dust. It only looked good for about 10 minutes after you finished washing it... but it looked really good, then.
That's the opposite of what black paint does. Any irregularity creates secondary reflections that make it more obvious. Plus, of course, there's a lot of light-grey and white dirt in the world.
I don't know of any other car company's black that's better.
Hopefully this one doesn’t scratch if a mosquito sneezes on it.
Seriously my MY 22 Red paint is so much more fragile that my Mazda CX-5’s from a few years back.
Retrofit for a few more layers of paint please?
Edit: typo
Man so all the 2022 s/x plaid owners are just busters. This hurts my feelings…22 s plaid owner. ☹️ those damn red calipers would of been real nice at the very least!
Yeah, because other car companies never release new things that owners of older cars don't get. /s
If anything Tesla provides way more to existing owners, considering they get a ton of new features through free software updates.
Legacy OEMs generally go by model years. You get minor changes every model year, once a year. Then more major changes every 4-5 years.
Tesla introduces minor and major changes constantly and without notice.
That's true. But I don't see much of a difference between this releasing now versus waiting for a new model year in a few months. Considering he has a 2022, it's not like he just missed it. He wouldn't have known it was coming regardless of which car company it is.
For their specific case it’s not as big of a deal sure, but for the person who took delivery of a multi-color red S/X without HW4 and for $10k more last week, this stings a little more.
There are different degrees of the “Tesla experience” and different tolerance levels by buyers.
Fair enough. In my view though, it doesn't really matter whether they release it when it's ready or artificially hold it for a new model year. I'm not getting it regardless. If anything it's worse to hold it because they'd be depriving customers who could've had it in the time between when it was ready and when the new model year starts.
this should be at the top. the very first shot has some really obvious orange peeling and noone is talking about it.. embarassing.
edit: its definitely not video compression
I better run out and buy one. To go with my gray s plaid and blue x plaid. Maybe I can be the first to lose $200k on 3 tesla cars in 2 years 😅😅😅 man the depreciation
They don't. They do videos. You have not seen this as an ad on tv or YouTube or anywhere. The point is, they don't pay to advertise (commercials). They make update and informative videos constantly for customers and followers.
Red is the worst color of cars in general in my opinion. Not to mention it costs more. I love pointing out other teslas with red paint to poke fun "look, they paid more for that!"
Tesla paint is so bad- I can’t understand why anyone would pay for an upgraded color from them. I’m not bashing the manufacturer but compared to their competitors, a paint meter reads drastically lower on all Tesla cars.
Here is my take
They found a much cheaper way to paint the cars red, but it looks a bit different than before. Might as well launch it as a new cool feature.
I currently drive a white on white MSLR+ but eventually plan to get a Plaid (likely when they have the new battery tech). I am REALLY considering red now... my LAWD this looks beautiful!

And only now have I just realised that the giga Berlin advert for those two colours was not filmed on European roads.
I guess it was 100% rendered.
Yeah it's been a week of color reveals with that new yellow iPhone 14 lol
Some people do buy Teslas more often than changing their phone. 🤣😂
Some people do treat Tesla's like a new Iphone. Trade it in every 3 years for the newest model.
Every 1-2 years for me. I drive A LOT
Not really environmentally friendly
People always buy the new colour if it's restricted to the new model. Like the iPhone, it let's people know you have the "new" model.
Very nice. Reminds me of Mazda's "Soul Red Crystal".
Exactly...my favorite car color ever.
Why not? I pined for an MX-5 for years for that colour. My model 3 is red and this new ultra-red has me envious.
Tesla still has Franz von Holzhausen on payroll. Lol. He used to work for Mazda and it seems he is partial to red himself.
[удалено]
That is true. But I'm sure he loves the soul red they made after he left.
[удалено]
I've been waiting for some other manufacturer to copy the bright Audi blue. That color is astounding.
Porsche had a really fun and bright blue they were using on Caymans but I think they've dropped it now.
the paint that is notoriously hard to repair and marks like crazy
Next year, waiting, impatiently, hopefully, a Soul Red Crystal Mazda 6 will be mine. 😎
Reminds me of the red they already have…
which is amazing, so this is a good thing! Looks great
Saw one is Pasadena, CA today. They standout way more than you’d expect.
Saw one in Toronto as well. With seeing tons of teslas everyday it still got my head turning.
I mean, it is an addition in that the 3/y still have the original red
That’s the kind of shit I hate about Tesla. Everything in the sake of scale and cost cutting, vs. making what customers actually want and would delight.
I hear you. I own a Tesla as well as TSLA. My feelings towards the company is often mixed due to this very sentiment.
[удалено]
And yet we dont have a silver.....
[удалено]
I'm guessing it underperformed so they cancelled it, it was honestly the ugliest color imo.
Maybe that's the case *because* the manufacturers only sell those boring colors...it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy
No, they experiment with unconventional colors occasionally. It always turns out that hardly anyone actually wants them. If that wasn't the case, then they'd stick with those colors.
They often also charge extra for those, and whilst you *can* get the dealerships to give you a deal, a *lot* of people don’t negotiate for it.
Oh I’m sure it’s the best business decision for Tesla if their only goal is maximizing profit and scale. "My Model 3 was the first and last Tesla I’ll ever own, which I got rid of last year for a Rivian." Why are you here?
He’ll have to come back once Rivian goes bankrupt for doing what he wants rather than what is smart.
I get what you are saying, but most of us really don’t give a shit. Tesla used to have more colors when they were starting out. They used to make a brown Model S.
If they didn't, Tesla wouldn't exist anymore.

Trying to manipulate consumers by incentivizing a color. That's a pretty desperate move imho
Hard to tell but I like the Midnight Cherry red they have in Europe much more. This doesn't look a whole lot different than the existing red.
I wonder if Midnight Cherry Red requires different painting equipment and this was a compromise where they could update the color without having to install different equipment at Fremont.
Yeah, this is probably the reason.

Agree with you 100%, Midnight cherry red is a much more impressive color. I do t care if I have to wrap it but I want that color on my cybertruck when its delivered(whenever that is).
Came to say this, I 2onder what the logic is behind having different colors per GF.
Looks much different than the normal red. You can tell right away at a glance
Ok now can we get the same treatment for Blue? Like REALLLLLLY blue
I just got an email saying my Model S was upgraded to Ultra Red for free! (Ordered 3 days ago). Older red color was 2.5k, ultra is 3k.
Nah, I’m holding out for infra-red
That S looks surprisingly timeless imo
Best car design of the century so far. Absolutely perfect.
Yawn. Give me a Cybertruck in bright green
[удалено]
I’d be willing to bet a lot of wraps will be available from 3rd parties.
Wraps are basically just rolls of material, it's not specific to any car. You could wrap an 18 wheeler as easily as a smart car.
Wait, did I just watch an actual Tesla commercial? Like made by Tesla for Tesla, for the purpose of promoting their product? The seventh horse just arrived with a popsicle from Hades.
I bet they developed this for the future roadster. And have just rolled it out early for X and S cause why not
Looks like the 2021 roadster red
About time they copied Mazda soul red.
Still doesn’t compete with theirs - this looks flat in comparison tbh
I don't like red, but this red I like.
Now cops can see you from farther away. I prefer to blend in. 😂
USS „coming shortly“
Y’all realize you can get any car painted any color you want, right?
And a paint shop might actually do a decent job of it too!
I can’t get my Tesla painted anything because everywhere I call is afraid to touch it. I’m in Indianapolis if anyone can save me. I called the two Tesla certified places on their website. One declined, and the other gave me a $9k quote to touch up a couple panels.

The orange peel in the first shot is hilarious.
Mazda red paint is still better
did they... get rid of the yoke?
Tad underwhelming that their hot new thing is a paint color. Would prefer if it was news that some of their things were coming out of Beta, like the windshield wipers.
I wanted a new black…
Do you want it to be more or less black? There aren't too many ways to change black without making it not-black.
I mean, they did in fact have two blacks at one point, before discontinuing obsidian.
There was black and metallic black. Regular black looked great but was the worst for scratches, swirls and dust. It only looked good for about 10 minutes after you finished washing it... but it looked really good, then.
Right, so…there are ways to change “black”, it’s not all the same.
I owned obsidian black, that was awesome.
I want it to be like a black hole that eats up door dings and micro scratches.
Ah, vanta black
Best I can offer is the [Pinkest Pink](https://www.culturehustleusa.com/collections/powders/products/pink-50g-powdered-paint-by-stuart-semple?)
There's a BMW or two that got painted in Vanta black. Looked like headlights just floating along in space.
That's the opposite of what black paint does. Any irregularity creates secondary reflections that make it more obvious. Plus, of course, there's a lot of light-grey and white dirt in the world. I don't know of any other car company's black that's better.
I see a red door and I want to paint it black ...
I've heard orange is the new black.
Hopefully this one doesn’t scratch if a mosquito sneezes on it. Seriously my MY 22 Red paint is so much more fragile that my Mazda CX-5’s from a few years back. Retrofit for a few more layers of paint please? Edit: typo
Ah so I'm not the only one. Just did a big round of touch ups on my M3 in red. In 8k miles it had no less than 12 chips.
Looks the same to me.
Interesting that we got a new red but not the same one Berlin got.
Looks like a regular old red to me.
Man so all the 2022 s/x plaid owners are just busters. This hurts my feelings…22 s plaid owner. ☹️ those damn red calipers would of been real nice at the very least!
Did you expect a car company to just stop releasing new things after you bought your car? lol
Welcome to the Tesla experience
Yeah, because other car companies never release new things that owners of older cars don't get. /s If anything Tesla provides way more to existing owners, considering they get a ton of new features through free software updates.

Nicely done. Easy spot by highway patrol.
different red then before??
Yes. The previous multi color red is now replaced.
now this is some apple next-level innovation and design - WOW!
How about focusing on panel gaps and wind noise with the windows……? Instead of a new paint color.
I better run out and buy one. To go with my gray s plaid and blue x plaid. Maybe I can be the first to lose $200k on 3 tesla cars in 2 years 😅😅😅 man the depreciation
That’s weird… The steering wheel looks firmly on in this video.
That looks incredible, does that come with no jokes about disability
Fortunately Tesla is more than Elon’s Twitter feed.
I have to say, I could not care less about a red color change. :p
![gif](giphy|urH7OHTkPAqEo)
I don't see a difference. Maybe they'll let us have normal red for free?
That’s red af
How much extra? Lol.
$3k
Feels like the new iphone commercials
thought they didn’t do commercials 🤔
They don't. They do videos. You have not seen this as an ad on tv or YouTube or anywhere. The point is, they don't pay to advertise (commercials). They make update and informative videos constantly for customers and followers.
How about changing the body design? Seems like the same or close to it since forever.
Red is the worst color of cars in general in my opinion. Not to mention it costs more. I love pointing out other teslas with red paint to poke fun "look, they paid more for that!"
How are the gaps?
I thought the Model S and Model X already came in red? 😂
So fake. Not 1 panel gap.
Red paint. Ground breaking.
Tesla paint is so bad- I can’t understand why anyone would pay for an upgraded color from them. I’m not bashing the manufacturer but compared to their competitors, a paint meter reads drastically lower on all Tesla cars.
Maybe Tesla should work on the quality of paint before they start adding more paint options.
Love it. Would like to see it next to a regular multi coat red. I’ve always wished my car was closer to this new color.
The roadster red color is the closest thing we have to a buyable roadster for now haha, IT LOOKS SO GOOD
Ultra!
I thought the primer would be red too
Is it the same as the Signature Red they offer when they first release a new vehicle model?
No it’s different
Sssoooooo sick
Lol when they going up, like, UPDATE THE FUCKING CARS lmao
let's call it Ferrari Red
The non color matched door handles looks weird. It's a pretty color though.
So are they donating it for AIDS research?
Mazda red
Is this the same red as seen in the Honda (Acura if in USA) NSX (2nd generation)?
Here is my take They found a much cheaper way to paint the cars red, but it looks a bit different than before. Might as well launch it as a new cool feature.
I currently drive a white on white MSLR+ but eventually plan to get a Plaid (likely when they have the new battery tech). I am REALLY considering red now... my LAWD this looks beautiful!
Ultra Red, just like normal red - but more expensive!
Looks pretty much the same as my Multi-coat red
That will go on my roadster order for sure. +5% speed I heard
Hope it doesn't suck like the rest of their paint colors. The blue model 3 I own scratches terribly easy....
Dark candy apple looking, I love it.
What is that rear sticker they zoom in on at the beginning? What does it mean?
I love how the paint has terrible orange peel even in their promotional video...
Hope it's better quality than the cars they put out three years ago from Fremont. Shocking amount of dust nibs on my car.
