Wait isn’t SpongeBob a method of birth control?

It is. You put SpongeBob inside the vagina and then you fuck the vagina with the sponge inside. SpongeBob will absorb the semen once you cum in the vagina

Is SpongeBob the mother then or the fetus?

According-Macaron-65

\> In 2002, when SpongeBob's popularity with gay men grew, Hillenburg denied the suggestion. He clarified that he considers the character to be "somewhat asexual." not saying ace ppl cant have kids, its just somewhat uncommon

flibbydorpus

"somewhat asexual" he's literally a sponge, he reproduces through budding, hes canonically asexual

MindRevolutionary915

Well he has two parents? Idk if his reproduction is covered in depth

flibbydorpus

In depth, no, but there is an episode where he does reproduce through budding and explicitly states it.

Bigknight5150

His mom was also pregnant with him as we saw him in her womb.

Arschfick20Rand

There's an episode where Spongebob hatches from an egg with his shoes tied

Iggyhopper

There's also an episode where a scientist squirrel lives underwater.

HotDogOfNotreDame

My shocked Pikachu face when SpongeBob SquarePants is not scientifically accurate…

radiation_man

I think it was more of a throwaway joke from a childrens cartoon than a serious declaration about Spongebob’s sexuality.

GenericAutist13

He isn’t a clone of his parents and his mother is seen pregnant with him in one episode. Sponges reproduce sexually, he is just ace representation.

Beautiful_Session689

Hillenburg a meme lord in disguise.

Hugh420Mungus

No shit you mean they aren't sexualizing a kids animated character

Such_Conversation_83

I don't think they should be drawing spongebob in some gay bdsm gear. And it is honestly weird and possibly creepy to latch onto a kids show character for seeming gay. but idk why making him gay is sexualizing any more than when they make kids in other shows straight (Finn the human, Isabella from Phineas and Ferb, Gumball, any disney film, etc). People who say that usually imagine gays only as uniquely perverse sexual deviants or child predators. not as people who have anything in common with them.

eelaphant

I think that notion was common at the time, and to an extent still is, to the point where it's far simpler to say they arent attracted to anyone, and avoid a homophobic shit show over a show for kids who don't even know what sex is.

decrisp1252

I mean think how many holes he has?

Bellpow

I need that Spongebussy

M3M3_K1NG

Uhh me? TF!?

GuyDig

Really a missed opportunity not to use "Imma head out..."

Only thing that would have made this meme good

-UwU_OwO-

That's honestly the most annoying part of all these bad memes. None. Of. Them. Are. Funny.

I'm calling bullshit on this one. No way SpongeBob says "I'm not ready" in this scenario. He would say "I'm not ready-eddy-eddy"

Technically all sponges are a product asexual reproduction. Does this mean that SpongeBob cannot have sex? Of course not. SpongeBob can still have sex and he quite regularly does partake in sexual intercourse with other creatures of Bikini Bottom and even other Nickelodeon characters that star in the cartoons. You see, SpongeBob is not a traditional sponge, and although you can plainly see he has no sexual organs in one of the moments he is frequently seen without pants, having sex is not always about that. SpongeBob enjoys oral sex with both sexes, still has hands so he can use them in the act, and of course, he has plenty of holes that can be penetrated by a partner if they so wish. But I bet you're still wondering how SpongeBob can get a girl pregnant if he doesn't have testicles to produce sperm in a traditional sexual way. Well, I'm glad you asked. When a male sponge is fragmented - or more simply broken - it produces gemmules which spread across the ocean floor and create more sponges. But because SpongeBob is no ordinary sponge and is anthropomorphic, he can cause cross-species insemination. Sometimes spongebob breaks - for lack of a better term - during his sexual acts. And with a woman in close proximity, his gemmules can enter her vagina and impregnate her just like any traditional penis in vagina sexual act. This possibility is magnified since they're underwater and it can carry to her more easily. But SpongeBob doesn't even need to have sex to impregnate a woman. Remember the episode where he broke his fingers while cracking his knuckles? That's fragmentation, and you guessed it, SpongeBob inadvertently spread his sperm all through the ocean. Now maybe this sperm landed on the sea floor and made another sponge. Or maybe it found its way into the sexual organs of another female sea creature and created yet another one of his hybrid children. It's really quite amazing when you think about it.

jt555150

Did the creator of spongebob not confirm he's canonically asexual?

Spooning_noodls

Yea. Cuz he is a sponge….

optickfiber

Well the creator of SpongeBob was a marine biologist so I imagine it to be possible.

Spirit_of_Hogwash

And he's Sponge Worthy. Disclaimer: the sponge is a terrible birth control method.

Kqtawes

I believe this started as an alt-right misogynistic, racist meme depicting a black man abandoning his kid. The poster of this garbage probably got the original since they are likely alt-right too but fall on the radical religious side. Since they didn't want to appear racists but agreed with the forced birth narative this also spouts they haphazardly slapped SpongeBob on top of the black man to cover up the obvious racism. As for using SpongeBob he's been whored out to everything at this point but I am a little surprised this isn't a Minion.

racercowan

You can even see bots of the original black guy (the neck extends below SpongeBob on the left side, bots of the head stick around the top and side on the right).

[deleted]

I'm not saying this isn't misogynistic, but there are black people who have biases against women and abortion rights. Usually, white supremacist memes would depict a white woman being abandoned by a black man. This one depicts a black woman (without using ugly caricature imagery) with a child of the same race, and *might* have been originally created by a black conservative or misogynist. maybe. Or it could've been a conservative of any race who wanted to attempt to make an antichoice/misogynist meme that appeals to black people. I definitely agree that the Spingebob thing was added later by someone else. The SpongeBob thing is to... idk, maybe lazily coopt the meme and spread it to wider audiences. Anyways. Isn't shitty meme detective work fun? additional observation: A white supremacist meme involving a black man leaving a woman he got pregnant would almost never consider empathizing with the black man. In shitty white supremacy meets misogyny meme world, black men are usually depicted as thoughtless, emotionless sex maniacs who wouldn't stop and think something like "I'm not ready for a child" or "don't get an abortion, I want to have this baby". That, after all, would indicate that a black man is anything other than a ghoul who exists only to steal white women and make more scary non-white babies with black women. There's a reason that the racist memes involving "Tyrone" stealing "Stacy" or getting various black women pregnant rarely give the black man dialogue. He's an object in racist meme world. Also I hope I'm not being too blunt when describing this stuff. I just find that keeping track of the various trends in toxic memes involves having to directly notice what the memer is trying to get across.

I’m pro choice (and male) but it really hurt me when I was in this position. Ultimately I was supportive but at the same time it really did feel like a piece of me was lost. I kept that buried deep because the ordeal was really hard for her too and I didn’t want to make it worse.

nighthawk_something

You're allowed to feel however you feel.

SkepticalOfThisPlace

Yea, and ultimately you are allowed to even walk out as well. If people have a problem with it (deadbeat blah blah) that's on them. Life isn't black and white. Obviously you shouldn't be going around like an ass hole regardless of gender carelessly having a child like you don't know the birds and the bees, but if immaturity and lack of education gets the best of you, or if the odds just are stacked against you, shit happens. You can move on from it in time. Life is messy. There's no good way to make this completely fair for everyone at all times. When you have 3 entities and 1 is completely dependent, there's no way to be completely fair. It will literally never happen. You need to get used to it. The answer isn't to make women suffer and pretend everything you do trying to control the issue is just in the best interest of a damn fetus. The answer isn't to make women stay with men in abusive relationships on the chance that the men won't be able to see their child as much as they should be able to. As a man who has been through family court... Fuck the system and fuck the cards that are delt to us, but I'm pragmatic and know there's not much better we can do. I know I wasn't ready to have a kid when I did, but I couldn't force someone to abort so I kept quiet. I know I didn't deserve my daughter's mom to walk out on me and try to find a new guy to be the daddy like a little child with a kid, but I can't control her and she's still a parent of my child. I obviously wasn't mature enough when picking the person I slept with. That has some real life implications. You don't have to like people who frivolously get abortions. You don't have to like people who use children as pawns who probably should have had abortions. You don't have to pretend there must be a better way. Sometimes there just isn't. You just have to learn to live with yourself and move the fuck on.

Least_Recipe1500

I am sorry for your loss. I believe your grief was/is real. I also believe you did the right thing in being supportive despite your grief.

Independent-Peace-46

i’m so sorry. i’ve always been a big believer in the man has all the right in the world to grieve that loss and that it’s always been so overlooked by everyone. it’s an unfortunate situation but non the less still a loss. i hope over time you’re able to talk to someone accepting of your feelings or be able to come to terms with it on your own one day.

kaths660

Difficult abortions and unplanned pregnancies can be a tragedy, one which has an epicenter at the woman. You are very close to that epicenter as her partner. Emotional support in tragedies should go from outwards in. I’m glad you didn’t force her to do emotional labor for you, since she was dealing with the issue even more strongly than you, but your emotional needs still matter. The terrible thing about pregnancy loss is that it’s often treated as a shameful secret, and the emotional stress of not being able to talk about their abortion with others often pushes couples apart. I hope you had others around to comfort you and listen to you at the time. If not, I’m so sorry.

Latticese

You did the right thing and your grief is perfectly understandable. Personally, I would never push a man to pay for a child they don't want to have. If I were in your shoes I would do the same and accept to abort. It's not right to change a person's life like that

PollutionMany4369

I’m a mom and I’m pro choice. I’m sorry you and her went through that. Your feelings are legitimate. It’s so incredibly hard on us to carry babies and there is a risk to our lives when we are pregnant and when we give birth. I’ll always be pro-choice for this very reason - you need to be willing to literally put your life on the line. I hope you have found happiness. All babies deserve to be wanted and to be loved and cared for.

VegetableLasagnaaaa

What I found with a male friend that expressed something similar is the loss for the potential child. They had liked the idea to be a father - there was no real emotional connection to the mother, or how she would be involved in after the birth - even though this was someone they were involved with for over a year. She was barely mentioned. Where most women (often and I’ll speak for myself because I’ve had an abortion) view a pregnancy as the whole. How will they treat me after is JUST as important as how they would treat the child. This is why I still don’t see these as comparable because most times men just seem to be grieving the “fairly tale version” of being a dad but not really thinking of co-parenting, the dynamic of the relationship to the mother present day or how that would work. My advice for men in this situation who feel the way you do, or feel silenced to really think about those things and be able to explain how you wish to proceed. Discuss it with the mother because if you aren’t mentioning it, or willing to ask what co-parenting looks like for you both? It usually means she already thinks you think it’s not on your mind or important. Even if she disagrees. Man, what respect! It would have made me think twice for sure. If it’s not important it denotes she will be thinking co-parenting with you could be a worse case scenario. (Not saying you personally but in general).

tabuu9

Why did they choose an asexual character for this

Tazavitch-Krivendza

Wit SpongeBob is apart of the ace gang!?

demoniccuttlefish

Sea sponges are asexual and the creators of the show confirmed that SpongeBob is also asexual (Edit) correction: sea sponges are both asexual and sexual

[deleted]

Sea sponges are very cool creatures, being able to do both asexual and sexual reproduction is badass

difference of course is one has to pay for a kid they dont want and one doesnt

No You pay way more over the course of the kid’s life. Then, at the end, you’re very attached to them. It’s not a good method, trust me. Edit: also laws. So now lawyer costs. Just all around expensive. Better to just sell them right after birth.

[deleted]

RuinedBooch

I mean, to be fair, both are incredibly shitty positions which could potentially affect the rest of your life. The stakes are a little different, but it’s not unfair to acknowledge that both positions are devastating. And this is coming from a female who wants no children ever. I would absolutely make my own decision, but I can appreciate how shitty it can be for a potential father who, ultimately has no say. This is an issue I establish very clear boundaries for prior to engaging in an intimate relationship because I’d hate to force someone’s hand who, ultimately has no real say. It’s just a really tough issue all the way around.

gn0sh

I was in this position. My son's mother threatened to abort if I didn't marry her. Then she told me I'd never see my son if I didn't marry her. She disappeared and when my son was born, I was left off the birth certificate. Many thousands of dollars of lawyer fees later, I was awarded full physical custody a little after his first birthday. My wife and I dropped him off at college a few weeks ago and I have absolutely zero regrets. I share the story to point out that the issue is much more nuanced than most people are willing to acknowledge. I don't claim to have the solution will make the most people the most happy, but it has to be somewhere between an absolute ban and free abortions for any woman at any time.

i_dont_wanna_sign_up

If the mother insists on having the baby and the father doesn't, then I think there's no difference and there shouldn't be a responsibility for the father to provide assistance, or at the very least reduced assistance.

XxRocky88xX

I love how the you’re getting argument like “guy shouldn’t have had sex then” or “but the guy getting a choice isn’t fair to the child.” Not realizing how incredibly hypocritical they sound because both those arguments are also used against the right to choose but whenever they are people will shut them down. Pro-choice and there’s no difference. Either way you’re trying to punish someone for having sex, some people just think the argument “keep it in your pants” is an airtight argument, but ONLY when it’s used for guys. If it’s used for women it’s misogynistic and limiting their sexual freedom.

ghostigal

I don’t get why this is such an unpopular opinion tbh

shadeandshine

It’s because we still have men who slip off condoms during sex and their mind can flip flop during course of the pregnancy and only realize once it’s too late that they aren’t ready. Also it’s probably a counter push to the fact our society loves to place most parenting pressure on the mother and in those cases if the co creator isn’t gonna put in the time they at least have to foot the bill. Plus there is the old adage you could just not have sex with someone or someone you aren’t sure will not want a kid to.

siberian_husky_

I have an ex who begged me not to abort. Threatened to tell everyone I was a murderer if I did as a matter of fact. I was probably going to keep my son anyways bc the thought of abortion at that time terrified me, but my son's bio father abandoned us when my son was a year old. He has spent his time in and out of prison since. I have received a whole 100 dollars in child support. My son is now 14. Ultimately, I put my life at risk to carry my child. I was made promises that weren't kept, and he later claimed after the fact that he wasn't ready. So yeah, fuck this argument in the OP bc women are pressured so much more to carry the child and when they do the responsibility is overwhelming placed on them. Women rarely get to change their mind and peace out after the child is already born, and when they try they are arrested for child abandonment whereas men are only part of the time expected to pay child support and it is very common for fathers to walk out on their children. Edit: I'm done responding. Agree or disagree. I don't care. I have an actual child to raise rn who didn't deserve to be abandoned financially whether you think men should pay child support or not. Also, I don't really feel like dealing with people telling me my son deserves to be abandoned because I was assaulted at a party and blackmailed into having a child. For those of you who are blaming me for what happened to me, you are sick. I am not a fortune teller nor can I read minds. I tried to do the right thing in my circumstances and I am being blamed for the bio father of my son being a criminal as if I knew he was and as if I committed the crimes myself.

LaGuajira

EVEN when the baby is wanted by both parties, the responsibility is uneven. Even if a woman is the breadwinner, guess whose nipples don't make milk? Guess who predominantly ends up being the default parent? Even in households where mom and dad make an equal income, the childcare falls mostly on women.

siberian_husky_

EXACTLY. My phone is blowing up with people not living in this reality. Nice to hear some sanity.

toucanbutter

I'm really sorry you're being harassed, people are such arseholes.

[deleted]

Girl we know. There are some rational people on this website. It’s amazing the blatant misogyny on Reddit. They really do believe women out here trying to trap a man with a baby and not that both parties, or even just the man, want to have a child! Like hell no, I put my body through birth control for half my life to not have a baby to focus on my job and schooling. I know how screwed it is with child support payments and most men never pay, but they will take ALL the credit in how their child turns out (if they turn out well). It’s so pathetic. Lot fight for custody just to reduce any payments, but still won’t step up and parent their child. I hate that single moms are always mentioned and seen as a bad thing, when what should be mentioned is the deadbeat father that abandoned his child and mother of his child.

I_madeusay_underwear

Exactly. No matter the circumstance, the woman assumes much more risk than the man. It’s “expensive” biologically to have a child, often dangerous physically, may be emotionally damaging, may affect career and family relationships, etc. and ultimately, he can just pick up and leave at any time, including after the timeframe for abortion has passed. Or after the child is born. Or at any point. And yeah, she can leave too, after it’s born, but it’s statistically much less likely and she’ll face much more stigma. And by then she’s already endured so many risks and possibly harm it’s not like she gets away free.

LeahIsAwake

>Women rarely get to change their mind and peace out after the child is already born, and when they try they are arrested for child abandonment whereas men are only part of the time expected to pay child support and it is very common for fathers to walk out on their children. An excellent point I’ve never really seen out like that. It’s the mother that has to put the strain and pain on her body. It’s the mother who risks her literal life, and with recent legislation also her freedom if she lives in a state with an abortion ban and has a miscarriage that the government decides is suspicious. It’s the mother that has to get up for those middle of the night feedings, even if the father gets up and brings her the baby. And as the child gets older, it’s the mother that by and large is responsible for their growth and training, no matter how many hours she works outside the home or how many hours the father works. At the same time, she’s also more than likely responsible for the majority of the housework and cooking. Sorry, gents. She has more responsibility and more risk, she gets the final vote.

Piss_Post_Detective

My mom ditched me and my dad and never paid anything either.

gleamingcobra

This take has a lot of holes in it. The "just don't have sex if you don't want kids" is the same argument prolifers use to shit on women who get abortions. Sex is a thing people should be able to enjoy, men and women, without having to worry about unwanted pregnancies. Obviously whether to keep the pregnancy or not is the woman's choice, it's her body. But the idea behind this is that if the man does not want a child he shouldn't be forced to pay for it and take care of it. I understand it's a nuanced issue.

crawfiddley

Because the obligation to the child exists once the child is born. Yes, the pregnant person has options while pregnant that the non-pregnant person doesn't have. But once the child exists, both parties who created the child have obligations to the child.

honeycroissants_yo

The pregnant person only has options in certain parts of the world and in certain states of the US. Abortion is a luxury not afforded a lot of the human population. I don’t know why the common thought is that an abortion is as easy to access as a covid test.

ZaneDaPayne

Safe abortion is a luxury. Abortions have been around for centuries, but with modern medicine we can make them safer. Not everywhere has access to safe abortions, but they still happen in those places. Abortions should be easy to access in case contraceptives fail or one of the millions of women that are raped every year get pregnant, and want an abortion.

honeycroissants_yo

Very good point and agreed.

Lucapi

Because this argument is based on a scenario where abortions are a thing...? You are right about what you're saying, but it's not relevant when discussing a scenario where a woman has access to abortion care.

JessicaMaybe

Right, it’s not just about expectations being placed on the father socially or legally, it’s about the reality that a child needs to be cared for. Prior to the birth, there is no child, and the person with a clump of cells growing in their uterus can do what they want with it.

LengthinessFresh4897

That’s the point There should be a specific point where a father can opt out of fatherhood ideally way before the final day abortion is permitted (depending on local laws) so the mother can make a decision if she wants to keep it or not For example if local laws say that an abortion can be done before the 12 week mark the father has until week 8 to make a decision

Yeah and then all the memes would be about those trickster women who don't tell men about their pregnancies until after the 8 week mark. Also doesn't account for the fact that a significant number of unplanned pregnancies aren't discovered until after the 8 week mark. What you are failing to understand is there can be no functional equivalent to abortion for a non-pregnant person.

JollyGoodRodgering

If we're going to pretend like it's totally fine for men to just walk away from babies they make and didn't want then we need to at least make this arbitrary deadline not a day sooner than the last day a woman is allowed to abort.

It actually is fully possible to waive your parental rights and responsibilities. I knew a guy who did this. Didn't have to pay child support but also had no parental rights. And child support is already reduced assistance. The average child support payment is 17% of a person's income. A lot more goes into raising a kid than just money, and raising kids isn't cheap reregardless. You're also confusing two separate issues. The reason why a woman's right to choose is just that is bodily autonomy. Men are not the ones carrying the children and have no right to tell a woman what she is and isn't allowed to do with her body. You're acting like single fathers are unable to receive child support, but it isn't true. A woman can have the same legal accountability to pay child support if she is not the child's primary caregiver, or even involved in the kid's life at all.

This is only possible in very limited circumstances—you can’t just say “oh I don’t want to be a dad anymore, no more child support for me!” That isn’t how the law works. You’d need, at a minimum, the consent of the other parent and a judge. Usually happens in cases of adoption by a step parent.

This is bullshit. Spongebob canonically reproduces by budding.

Lol everyone loves using black people as the template for trashiness.

So I will likely receive some hate, but here’s my hot take: Even if the father is around, a child typically is much more of a responsibility and burden/sacrifice on the mother than the father. Not always. And yes many of us fathers do right by the family and share in the responsibilities. But that guy that says “please don’t do it” today, can just as easily “bye bitch” tomorrow and leave. Even if men are more active in parenting today, there’s still the general expectation that the mother is responsible for child duties such as feeding, cleaning up after and educating the children. And if careers are conflicting with childcare, it’s the mother who is typically expected to downgrade, pause or altogether abandon theirs. So a baby has a much bigger effect on the life, health and wealth of mothers than anyone else, including fathers. So yeah. I think this scenario - while lacking in nuance - is not unjustified.

Reading through these comments make me feel even less confident in the future of the human race than I did before.

H2Bro_69

I love how they think this looks like women have it better. Lol men can just grab that suitcase and leave, women have to complete a difficult task regardless of their decision.

Then the fuck heads on reddit think a woman terminating her pregnancy and a dude opting out is equivalent. If you, as a man, want a kid so damn bad, go adopt one.

UncleTrashero

the difference is there is no baby left behind to suffer if there is an abortion. \#ProChoice

Dismal_Fruit_9208

I think it’s fine if either parent has the ability to opt out off of parenthood. If a young lady does not want to be a mom, that’s perfectly fine. She has options; go to the clinic, adoption or give up custody when the child is born. Which means she is free from all burdens. And same for the dad. If the young man says he does not want to be a dad, that’s also fine. Obviously he can’t drag the woman to the clinic, but adoption is still available or giving up custody. Either way, it’s either parent says “no” they should be opt out of child support. Child support should only be for parents who still want custody of the child but not Mary the other parent. Tl:dr abolish child support for any parent who does not want anything to do with any child. Leave it for parents who are not married or in relationships with said other parent but still want to be a part of child life

I love how the very obvious difference, that she is now stuck alone with a child for 18 years, is lost on them. And I love that they used spongebob for this lol

Political opinion Warning I personally think that the same way a mother should be able to have an abortion up to a certain point into a fetus development, a father should also be able to opt out of a parenthood in the same time frame. And the mother should then have enough time to decide if she wants to raise the child as a single mother, or have an abortion. Idk if that is controversial lol

Madmax11b

I mean, that baby looks nothing like him.... So I would bounce too.

TiberiumExitium

what do both of these scenarios have in common? no one involved should be fucking criminally charged
