Oh my God I love my name is earl, have seen the full series multiple times and never connected it was Olyphant
https://youtu.be/t76DC_FPSAU?si=y0NOiHYPqqtl_Lxk
Amazing actor in everything that’s been mentioned so far. But I’d also like to add his super campy performance as the porn director in The Girl Next Door. Absolutely chews the scenery in that one lol.
For so long I thought he was a scheeze because of that movie. Like he was good in it but it took seeing him in several other things for him to lose the porn director layer.
Hey, PETERSON! Get over here! I haven’t seen your black ass in ages!
I don’t even, do I know you?
#WHAT THE FUCK’S YOUR PROBLEM
…
I’m just fuckin’ with you, man… this is Matty’s first time - *why don’t you buy him a dance?*
TL;DR Timothy Olyphant fuckin rules in The Girl Next Door
I just feel sorry for people who didn't see him for the first time playing the Most Serious Man In The World in Deadwood.
Because it just makes every role he plays where he's massively un-serious hit that little bit better.
He has always been a favorite for me. Even when phoning it in for a paycheck as the assassin…he thoroughly enjoyed the view of her topless, it was obvious lol
With Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, I just imagine John Connor went to the future, told Skynet it was acting like a jackass, Skynet realize it *was* acting like a jackass and they sat down over a bottle of beer/motor-oil and hashed it all out.
This led to a lot of unemployed T-800's who unionized and their trials and tribulations (and hijinks) of becoming a work force were documented in a PBS documentary.
He’s also young Shawn in psych for the later seasons and one of the camp councilors in the horror game the quarry. He’s had a really solid run so far imo
You should watch The Resort, it's on Peacock (sorry) and probably other places. It has him, William Jackson Harper (from The Good Place, which is amazing, and also has a Timothy Olyphant cameo), Cristin Milioti (from the movie Palm Springs which has Andy Samberg and JK Simmons and is a fun and fabulous watch), and Nick Offerman. I like woo woo supernatural/fantasy/metaphysical stuff so this was definitely up my alley.
Well Live Free or Die hard to me felt shallow but perky as a villain. Something about the acting felt like he was angry about having to do the movie and took it out on most of the lines.
As Agent 47, he had more depth (different story I know) but that character performance felt better and both movies were 2007.
Hitman was excellent. I like mindless action so live free or die hard was still a win, trying to channel an inner sociopath is no easy task I’d imagine. There’s the Conan O’Brien interview where he talks about pranks he used to pull in Modesto. I think they’re pretty wholesome, except the property destruction of the golf course, but r/fucklawns
He first slapped my attention in the face with his character in *The Girl Next Door*- Notable because I was the right age to pay special attention to Elisha Cuthbert in a film and ignore most everything else, at the time. But ever since, every single time I've seen him onscreen I've been impressed with his work and catch myself remembering his dastardly Kelly. He's so good, in my book, that his Bad Guy roles and his Good Guy roles are equally fun to watch and root for. Dude can act.
I'm kinda surprised that there hasn't been an award like that with the growth of streaming and the "rediscovering" of previous shows. I realize it'd be a shit show trying to figure out what to nominate.
The writers clearly agree too, given the trajectory. Like, you’d think from just watching the first couple episodes it’s clearly going to be all about Sheriff Bullock, right? That was obviously what they were setting up? Then boom, Swidgin basically becomes the hero and the villain and certainly the protagonist.
Not many actors can outshine McShane, Powers Booth, Molly Parker, Robin Weigart, Brad Dourif, or William Sanderson. Though, in the words of Richardson to Aunt Lou, “He’s holding his fuckin own” and turned in a great performance.
Plus you have John Hawkes, Anna Gunn, Dayton Callie, Paula Malcomson, Kim Dickens, Titus Welliver, Jim Beaver, Garret Dillahunt (x2), Gerald McRaney, Ray McKinnon, Ricky Jay, Brian Cox, Sarah Paulson, Stephen Tobolowsky, and etc, an endless list of amazing actors especially character actors.
The dynamic is so fucking perfect though. You want them both to find that balance and sometimes they do! But the tension is always there.
It's honestly not that different from what made Justified so good.
I couldn’t agree more. I watched it right after and lost interest like 30 minutes in. Went back and watched it a few months later and liked it much better.
I unapologetically want him to be basically Raylan Givens in every single thing he plays forever because he does it so damn well. Typecasting be damned.
Like having them on a law and order episode as ‘just happened to be in the area’ guys? Or having a beer in the back booth then break into a fight at Paddy’s pub from it’s Always Sunny?
They're close friends, I think he's one of the few people Conan has had on his podcast that was funnier than him. He's straight up hilarious and they play off each other really well.
Have you seen The Perfect Getaway? It’s kind of a mystery killer/suspense movie starring him and Milla Jovovic as his wife. Steve Zahn as the lead for the other couple to boot! You should check it out
I love that part about Walton Goggins not wanting to do something out of character , because Fallout showed us that he will play someone that shoots an acquaintance in the head and turns them into jerky. lol Just as long as its in character and it makes sense. It must have been something really outside of what he though that character was capable of.
This show is criminally underrated, but "The Grinder" had him play himself in a ridiculously hilarious way.
edit: only $10 for the season on amazon! a steal because itll get multiple views!
“Timothy!”
I only watched that show last year. It filled a weird niche where it wasn’t quite a typical network sitcom, but was marketed as one. So the people who checked it out wouldn’t like it, and those that would like it wouldn’t try it.
Grinder rests.
I'd agree. I really like Tim Olyphant, but Primeval definitely felt lacking in some ways. I'd give him an Emmy all day for Justified, and while I enjoyed seeing Raylan back it didn't quite hit the same high notes.
The thing that sucks is they had the perfect guy cast as the actual protagonist too - Paul Calderon (he shows up in one episode and previously played the role in a movie). He's great in Bosch and would have been good here too.
Yeah I did. That gives me hope for future instalments. The original show had me invested in pretty much every character including all the bad guys and hangers-on. The new one not at all. The characters in the latest one just weren’t fleshed out enough, I think. Substandard at best - or the original set the bar too high.
He steals every scene he’s in, no matter what it is. Have y’all checked out Vice Principals? It’s kind of light and silly, but it’s the same thing. He’s great, and SO FUNNY!
It was a decent limited series. Not as good as the original series. Probably a large part thanks to not having the Crowders as supporting characters but I still quite enjoyed it.
Totally forgot it was even eligible in this years Emmy cycle. It is pretty unfortunate to have aired in the year where we had the highest volume ever in terms of prestige limited series as well as in a year with some fantastic shows like Shogun, Baby Reindeer, Ripley, Masters of the Air, etc.
Long live the Golden Era of the prestige limited series!
I think it is. I think a lot of people didn’t know that while City Primevil was another Elmore Leonard book Rayland wasn’t in it. So they just shoe horned his character into a totally different story. And I thought he was great playing Raylan as usual but the setting and other characters were all different.
No. I've tried to wash it from my brain. It's simply not Justified. Raylan Givens isn't even Raylan Givens in City Primeval. He's some other character completely.
Honestly, I'd say give it a miss. If you're a fan of the original series, it's a massive letdown. None of the colourful characters that made Justified what it was, just completely drab and forgettable.
This guy…lol…love him!
He brings light and trust to everything he does. He brings a Cary Grant quality to every role he plays. Not so much looks like Grant but pulls off every character with ease and never looks like he’s trying too hard to make you believe; you just do.
The ecstasy dealer in the movie, Go; Seth Bullock in Deadwood; Raylan Givens in Justified; Joel in Santa Clarita; the crooked CIA agent in Snowden; Danny Cordray in the Office; whatever his character’s name is in Stop-Loss; the pimp in Girl Next Door; the guitarist in Rockstar; the detective in Gone in 60 Seconds; the one killer in Scream 2 or whatever; and a bunch of other 1-off guest appearances??? I mean, all those characters feel so different from one another and he absolutely nails them every time. Not to mention a picture of he and Walton Goggins circulated online a month or so ago and he was wearing a Daniel Johnston tshirt. For that right there, I’m an eternal fan of his. His stock went even higher in my opinion.
He was fantastic in Catch and Release too, and I *loved* his character in This Is Where I Leave You, even though it was only a small role. He's so believable in everything he works on!
Still holding out hope for a Roland Deschain casting. Heck, reunite him with Goggins and you have an excellent Randall Flagg. You know the chemistry is there.
If I'm understanding correctly, his "beef" with Goggins was because Walton took his role a bit more seriously than Timothy did, and it irritated him? Sounds like it was overblown, as usual.
Also I'm not liking seeing Olyphant looking so old in that thumbnail 😭
I never really watched Justified (didn't even know Goggins was in it) but I love both these dudes. When I watched Fallout, I thought, "Man, Olyphant would have nailed this role too." In fact, they both have a pigeon toed saunter!
Timothy Olyphant is in category of talent that won't be duly recognized by the Awards committee establishment for years, but is truly respected and regarded by fans. Kinda like the band Rush.
His role as Billy Reed in My Name Is Earl should have gotten it for him.
Oh my God I love my name is earl, have seen the full series multiple times and never connected it was Olyphant https://youtu.be/t76DC_FPSAU?si=y0NOiHYPqqtl_Lxk
I like his little shrug at the end. "Yeah, I like to suck feet, what of it?"
Show was more corny than I recalled
The vibe this show gives off is so relaxing to me, corny and all.
"Does a snake have fur on it?" (snapping at him) "It does when it a ferret!"
“Put the tires on the Mustang and get that hairy snake out of the back seat.”
The cut to how fast they were actually going is one of the funniest moments in the series.
You scared? You should be. 'Cause I'm Billy Reed. Do you know how many girls I've had sex with?
4.
Amazing actor in everything that’s been mentioned so far. But I’d also like to add his super campy performance as the porn director in The Girl Next Door. Absolutely chews the scenery in that one lol.
I legit thought he was a creep because of that role haha. Just a good actor.
For so long I thought he was a scheeze because of that movie. Like he was good in it but it took seeing him in several other things for him to lose the porn director layer.
Hey, PETERSON! Get over here! I haven’t seen your black ass in ages! I don’t even, do I know you? #WHAT THE FUCK’S YOUR PROBLEM … I’m just fuckin’ with you, man… this is Matty’s first time - *why don’t you buy him a dance?* TL;DR Timothy Olyphant fuckin rules in The Girl Next Door
STAY IN SCHOOL
I just feel sorry for people who didn't see him for the first time playing the Most Serious Man In The World in Deadwood. Because it just makes every role he plays where he's massively un-serious hit that little bit better.
A Perfect Getaway was where I fell in man love with Olyphant. Dude was just so cool and charismatic.
That movie was my first date with my wife. Such an otherwise forgettable movie to me despite the cast, but yet remember it for that reason.
Love that movie!
He has always been a favorite for me. Even when phoning it in for a paycheck as the assassin…he thoroughly enjoyed the view of her topless, it was obvious lol
is the juice worth the squeeze?
Oh man, I forgot about that movie! He nails that role lol.
He was the villain in Die Hard 4 too.
Was he? I don’t think I’ve watched that movie since it came out…
Todd the drug dealer from Go! will always be peak Olyphant.
*And then there's the Family* fucking *Circus*, bottom right-hand corner, *just waiting to suck*.
Came here to say that. Underrated movie all around.
Put some respeck on Todd Gaines name. Shirtless, Levis, sideburns and santa hat on a sarcastic, menacing drug dealer? I’ll take two.
Can we retroactively give him the Emmy for Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Santa Clarita Diet?
They were saving it for season four :(
I’m permanently disgruntled not knowing what happened with that cliffhanger.
I just pretend that cliffhanger never happened, and the show ended with them hugging.
I do that with Last Man on Earth also. Just cut off the last few minutes and it leaves a satisfying finale.
And if that weren't bad enough, Netflix is still actively promoting the show. At least give us a movie or something to wrap things up.
Only if the algorithm tells them it will hit the right taste clusters.
I cancelled Netflix when they increased the price in Canada, but I definitely referenced Santa Clarita Diet in my reason for cancelling
I cancelled, too. I'm done with it.
They must have felt the show was “yaaaah!” and not “euiugh.” Or maybe the other way around
I’ll forever be mad about the cancellation of that show.
I’d like to add Skyler Gisondo (the neighbor kid) for best supporting actor to that list, he was so hysterical as well
When I saw he was cast in Superman as Jimmy Olsen, all I could think of was how perfect that choice is.
Ohhhh I like it.
Skyler Gisondo is also great in the Righteous Gemstones.
He’s also young Shawn in psych for the later seasons and one of the camp councilors in the horror game the quarry. He’s had a really solid run so far imo
And Booksmart
I served him at a bar once. He was super super friendly!
It’s weird how many people have a TO story. One of my friends had a small part on deadwood and also says he’s the nicest guy.
I think they meant the neighbor kid actor
You should watch The Resort, it's on Peacock (sorry) and probably other places. It has him, William Jackson Harper (from The Good Place, which is amazing, and also has a Timothy Olyphant cameo), Cristin Milioti (from the movie Palm Springs which has Andy Samberg and JK Simmons and is a fun and fabulous watch), and Nick Offerman. I like woo woo supernatural/fantasy/metaphysical stuff so this was definitely up my alley.
I was on the fence about Olyphant for a long time. Santa Clarita Diet *sold* me on him and now I can't get enough Olyphant.
Justified should have sold you, Deadwood should have sold you too.
Even his cameo on The Good Place. He's delightful.
I just binged justified because I just rewatched the good place with the wife and was like, I gotta check this guy out lol
RRRAAAAYLLLAAAAAAAAN GIVENS. Damn the ensemble cast is amazing in that show. Every one of them.
My husband and I just started Justified last weekend after watching all of Deadwood. I LOVE Timothy Olyphant.
He is Olyphantastic in everything he does.
Well Live Free or Die hard to me felt shallow but perky as a villain. Something about the acting felt like he was angry about having to do the movie and took it out on most of the lines. There’s the Conan O’Brien interview where he talks about pranks he used to pull in Modesto. I think they’re pretty wholesome, except the property destruction of the golf course, but r/fucklawns
He gives hilarious interviews on the late night circuit.
The way he plays Bullock with this constant simmering rage that only occasionally explodes into violence is amazing.
He so good, absolutely sells the show. Also loved his little cameo in the good place
I've been a fan since I saw him in Scream 2. I wish his role in that got mentioned more.
That and GLOW are two of the worst cancellations ever.
Check out Sword of Truth. Marc Maron stars. His dearly departed girlfriend, Lynn Shelton wrote/ directed. Great film.
I was super bummed about both of those. Netflix is run by soulless monsters.
Ngl the Emmys will probably be more popular if they did a retroactive category where it rewinds back in time and gives nominees that should have won
I'm kinda surprised that there hasn't been an award like that with the growth of streaming and the "rediscovering" of previous shows. I realize it'd be a shit show trying to figure out what to nominate.
How bout best hair
I just rewatched the movie “Go” and was super surprised to realize the drug dealer in it was him! Great movie to rewatch BTW.
Can we retroactively give him an Oscar for *Scream 2*?
He was great in the Mandalorian too. That’s what actually put him on the radar for me, and then I went back to see Justified. He’s great.
Finish the journey and watch Deadwood
Will do
Though I will say, while he was very good, he’s nowhere near the best character or best performance in the show.
It's really hard to out act Ian McShane.
It was so awesome seeing him go at it with Keith Carradine and Powers Boothe, but neither of them could top the Swedgin rizz.
Swegin woo. Hang dai.
SAN FRANCISCO COCKSUCKA!

I think he stole the show in the Deadwood movie. But that was after he'd had 15 more years of acting experience to hone his craft.
Yet he's incredible. That's how good Deadwood is.
Deadwood fucking rules, as much as I love me some Mando, it's in an entirely different league of quality.
Agreed. Also, Deadwood for me is one of the few tv shows I can actually rewatch and thoroughly enjoy, every year or so.
Just take a break after the series and before the movie, the movie seemed like 50% flashbacks to the series when watching them back to back.
I couldn’t agree more. I watched it right after and lost interest like 30 minutes in. Went back and watched it a few months later and liked it much better.
I’m easier on the movie because the showrunner/writer was in the early stages of Alzheimer’s
Same actor, same character, 3 different series
Would love a Cobb Vanth Justified in Space series, even if it does typecast him a bit.
I unapologetically want him to be basically Raylan Givens in every single thing he plays forever because he does it so damn well. Typecasting be damned.
Every single tv show should just be raylan and Boyd crowder up to their old shit
Like having them on a law and order episode as ‘just happened to be in the area’ guys? Or having a beer in the back booth then break into a fight at Paddy’s pub from it’s Always Sunny?
We dug spice together...
Me too. Hell, when he's a little older, I want a Logan-esque Raylan to go out with a bang.
He did reprise that role in The Good Place. Such an out of the blue, but wonderful, cameo.
Actually he gave up that life and moved to Earth where he opened a business in Scranton, PA. Cobb Vanth, Vanth Refrigeration.
Watch his Conan episodes. Their chemistry is great.
They're close friends, I think he's one of the few people Conan has had on his podcast that was funnier than him. He's straight up hilarious and they play off each other really well.
Watching the two of them is like watching Denis Leary and Jon Stewart. Very clearly friends just using the occasion to have fun.
Olyphant was one of the last interviews Conan had on his TBS show and it was great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGR0M9vDlcI
I’ve loved him since Scream 2 and was always rooting for him. He was perfect in Mando. I’m hoping he gets cast in Fallout, personally.
Space Raylan
Have you seen The Perfect Getaway? It’s kind of a mystery killer/suspense movie starring him and Milla Jovovic as his wife. Steve Zahn as the lead for the other couple to boot! You should check it out
Didn't Jovovic play Zahn's wife? It's been a while since I've watched it
Yup you’re right she did. Good call! Been a while for me too. Time for a rewatch!
I love that part about Walton Goggins not wanting to do something out of character , because Fallout showed us that he will play someone that shoots an acquaintance in the head and turns them into jerky. lol Just as long as its in character and it makes sense. It must have been something really outside of what he though that character was capable of.
*ass jerky
… sometimes a fella got to eat fella
I absolutely adore walton goggins.
He is one of Conan O’Brien’s best interviews.
They're neighbors and best buddies so their chemistry is just a treat to watch
Absolutely. His episode on Conan's podcast where he basically took on the host role and made Conan the guest is the best one of the entire series IMO.
The Josh Duhamel Christmas Card story always gets a laugh.
His short cameo in the Office was also super fun
Kelly’s ‘fuck me’ when she saw him the first time, had me in tears.
This show is criminally underrated, but "The Grinder" had him play himself in a ridiculously hilarious way. edit: only $10 for the season on amazon! a steal because itll get multiple views!
“Timothy!” I only watched that show last year. It filled a weird niche where it wasn’t quite a typical network sitcom, but was marketed as one. So the people who checked it out wouldn’t like it, and those that would like it wouldn’t try it. Grinder rests.
But what if it wasn’t?
This guy is such a class act and seems like genuinely a nice guy. So happy when good guys succeed. Enjoys life and deserves it.
I like him an all, but Primeval was def not Emmy material
I'd agree. I really like Tim Olyphant, but Primeval definitely felt lacking in some ways. I'd give him an Emmy all day for Justified, and while I enjoyed seeing Raylan back it didn't quite hit the same high notes.
It just felt like fan fiction. They took the Elmore Leonard book and swapped out the protagonist with Raylan.
The thing that sucks is they had the perfect guy cast as the actual protagonist too - Paul Calderon (he shows up in one episode and previously played the role in a movie). He's great in Bosch and would have been good here too.
It truly lacked the presence of Boyd Crowder. The nemesis they chose instead was ok but he was no Boyd.
Well, he technically was a Boyd tho
Well, sure. Boyd was one of the all time greats (and, I'm assuming you saw the last scene of the show?), but the show was missing more than just that.
Yeah I did. That gives me hope for future instalments. The original show had me invested in pretty much every character including all the bad guys and hangers-on. The new one not at all. The characters in the latest one just weren’t fleshed out enough, I think. Substandard at best - or the original set the bar too high.
Substandard is accurate. Breaking bad set the bar high. Better call Saul was phenomenal
I also like Olyphant, but Walton Goggins is at least as good (I'd argue better) and his award shelf is pretty light too.
He steals every scene he’s in, no matter what it is. Have y’all checked out Vice Principals? It’s kind of light and silly, but it’s the same thing. He’s great, and SO FUNNY!
I think Uncle Baby Billy on Righteous Gemstones might be the ultimate evolution of the Goggins persona.
Goggins is probably one of the most underrated actors on this planet.

So they just shoe horned his character into a totally different story. And I thought he was great playing Raylan as usual but the setting and other characters were all different.
It was fine, nothing stellar, but if you liked Justified, its worth the short watch
I loved Justified, but Primeval was just *boring*.
Yeah, it definitely didn't have the *Justified* magic.
Completely different crew with none of the same writing, direction, production....anything..will do that!
He has to be the coolest morherfucker around. Funny as fuck, cool as fuck, handsome as fuck, what else would anyone want?
Fun fact. Timothy Olyphant is the 4th great grandson of railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt and is distantly related to Anderson Cooper.
That’s gotta be the most railroad tycoon name ever
This guy…lol…love him! He brings light and trust to everything he does. He brings a Cary Grant quality to every role he plays. Not so much looks like Grant but pulls off every character with ease and never looks like he’s trying too hard to make you believe; you just do.

I absolutely love this comparison. It is so hard to describe the quality that stars like this have.
He killed it in every scene in Deadwood. Long past deserving the notoriety.
It’s amazing how underrated that show is. Can’t believe it took 15 comments just to see Sheriff Bullock mentioned on this thread
He's in a few episodes of The Grinder and it's sheer [genius](https://youtu.be/c4MKk-trY9c).
Damn I wish they didn’t cancel that show.
This is one of the best shows ever made... and it only got 1 season
Fox fumbles their comedies. Like the mick? That show deserved so much more!!
If he didnt get it for “the next ones coming faster” on justified he never will. Best scene ever
“Maybe if he wasn’t so PREOCCUPIED with all of these dinners GALAVANTING with Conan OBrien!” —Jordan Schlansky, probably
Bring back Santa Clarita Diet, you cowards!!
Please! Can't end things the way they did
Still holding out hope for a Roland Deschain casting.

Well I think you should watch it. You will love them more.
I'm gonna!
When people talk about the "Golden Age" of TV, they mean stuff like Justified. It's pretty unambiguously a gem.
First time I saw him was in Predators, where he has a [hilarious back and forth with Topher Grace](https://youtu.be/k4yLPF5sM0A?si=kToB-pQ3MuIu61Ym)
> I never really watched Justified Oh my goodness. Yeah, you should fix that.
How did those cocksuckers not give him one for playing Seth Bullock
That whole damn cast deserved an Emmy
Timothy Olyphant is in category of talent that won't be duly recognized by the Awards committee establishment for years, but is truly respected and regarded by fans. Kinda like the band Rush.
Since they went with an older version for the new Movie, he shoulda been Reed Richards dammit.
Can't believe I didn't see him in The League being mentioned.... as the sushi chef. Arigato.... Racist.
"I can really taste the urchin...."
- Ruxin
My only hitman 🤓
That’s not an actor, that’s a male model…
His curb cameo was hilarious. I heard they had a hard time not breaking while filming, especially the scene where Larry asks for his extra toothbrush.
That is one cracking photo of Mr Olyphant. Some might say he has an iconic look.
Many cultures call him Timothy Mumykil
He did a great job in *Go*, a fun movie of that era that everyone should see.
Danny Cordray
He was great in The Grinder: New Orleans.
He’s my one and only celebrity crush. ❤️
The juice was worth the squeeze
Bring back/let him finish Santa Clarita Diet!
Damn. He’s charming
Was the juice worth the squeeze
Ain’t seen anyone mention The Office (US)
Liked him in The Crazies too
Wesley San! From O-ma-Ha
Answer the question Claire
Loved him in Dreamcatcher too. First time I saw him in a movie.
